Looses network connection when computer goes to sleep... and password ques.

So... I browsed the forum (not too in depth...) and have found anything to help me on this issue.
When my computer goes to sleep I lose my connection. Even when I was testing it out and put it to sleep for five seconds it happened. So every time my computer goes to sleep I have to reconnect to my network and re-mount my external HD. Every time. And on top of that... when I type in my WAP password to connect... I check the option to save the password in my keychain and it never saves it. It saves the password to connect to the external HD, though... just not the network.
Anyone have an idea?

The keychain is pretty much a central place that stores usernames, passwords, and some kinds of cryptography information (certificates and keys). OS X provides an interface so it's easy for programmers to make their applications use the keychain. That way, all of your passwords are stored in one place. Useful feature, that.
Keychain Access is used to access things in the keychain. So if you have a program that doesn't use keychain, you can use keychain access to display the password for various things you've long since forgotten.
Keychain access is also useful for double-checking that something is in the keychain - or for removing things that are already there that you don't want to have in the keychain.
As for two passwords for your network - that sounds correct. One is for the network, and the other is for the AirPort Base Station. Keychain Access has the "kind" column, and there are two kinds of entries:
AirPort Base Station Password: This is not used to access the network - it's used to configure the base station.
AirPort Network Password: This IS what you use to access the network.
Though your mention of "login" and "system" passwords is making me think you may be talking about the passwords for the "system" and "login" keychains.

  • Losing network connection when computer goes to sleep

I have been putting up with a nagging problem that I hope someone can help solve. (I asked about this earlier and thought the problem had been solved, but it has not.)
Periodically when I start work after my notebook has been asleep, I am asked to reconnect to my wireless network. It doesn’t happen every time, and I have not been able to discover a pattern. I am also asked to re-enter my password, even though it is in my keychain and I always check the “remember this password” box. “Ask to join new networks" is not checked in the Advances pane, "Remember any network this computer has joined" is checked, and in the list of preferred networks, my home network is the top one.
I am not having any problem with the network itself and I am working on the desk where Time Capsule is located.
I am obviously doing something wrong, but what?
    Charles

Are you using TC as your router? Or do you have another router?
If another router, update the firmware for starters.

  • Apple TV 3 drops network connection when it goes to sleep

I updated my Apple TV 3 to software version 7.0 (based on iOS 8) and now every time it goes to sleep it shuts down the network connection.  To wake it up, I either need to use the remote or use an iOS 8 device that supports handoff.  At least I think it does since my iPhone 5s can wake it up, but my iPad 2 cannot.  I believe the Apple TV is now using Bluetooth for connections.   This basically means Airplay with older devices won't work without first waking the Apple TV.  I'm not sure the point of the change since I'm using Ethernet, not Wifi, so there's no reason to "power down".
on a side note, sometimes the iPhone 5s can't wake the Apple TV either.  It usually wakes up when I open the control panel, but not always.  It goes back to sleep when I close the control panel.
Ia there any setting to make it work the way it used to?

the WIFI does not drop when my appletv goes to sleep.
my iphone can still see the appletv (via the airplay icon) when it is asleep.
All you are seeing is the last known Wifi state in iTunes (and similar app in iPhone, iPod, iPad). The AppleTV however has powered down "something" in its own mechanism to conserve power.
For the Apple TV to use such low watts in operation, its got to be powering down something.
I have seen this behaviour before in other devices that try to power down Wifi in a sleep state. It is not connected but it thinks it is. I'm not an expert in Wifi technology so won't state what is happening behind the scenes but do know that re-starting/re-powering up the devices will cause the wifi connections to be re-established.
I would try this but don't have access to my ATV at the moment. Turn off encryption and see if the problem persists. My gut tells me that the WPA/WEP encryption has lost itself in the low power state.
I suspect that 10/100/Gig RJ45 ethernet connections are not affected.

  • After recent update to airport on iMac, the wifi connection is lost when it goes to sleep and requires turning off wifi and turning it on to reestablish contact.

After recent update to OS on iMac, communication to airport is lost when computer goes to sleep.  To reestablish connection, I need to turn wifi off then on.

    same problem here.
    i have a time capsule.
    symptoms:
    excessively searching for network
but more often than not, it cant find the correct netowrk that is correctly stored in keychain
if i try network assistant opened through safari not finding its page, then it can find the right network after i enter in the password again.  it connects. but only for a few seconds then it loses the connection again.
the only fool proof workaround for me is:
1/ shut down time capsule. restart time capsule.
2/ restart mac with airport turned off.
3/ after restart manually select the network from the wireless icon in the menu bar
airport utility is a complete waste of time
old airport utility is still better.

  • Printer loses wireless connection when it goes to sleep?

My printer loses wireless connection to my router when it goes to sleep and I have to input the WEP key again.  As long as the printer is awake it works fine.  The wireless light remains on.
Printer is HP Officejet Pro 8500A Plus and the router is a Verizon 7500.

If you mean WPA, that is good.
Let's set a static IP address for the printer:
    - Print a Network Config Page from the front of the printer. Note the printer's IP address.
    - Type that IP address into a browser to reveal the printer's internal settings.
    - Choose the Networking tab, then Wireless along the left side, then the IPv4 tab.
    - On this screen you want to set a Manual IP. You need to set an IP address outside the range that the router automatically sets (called the DHCP range). If you do not know the range, change the last set of numbers (those after the last '.') to 250
    - Use 255.255.255.0 for the subnet (unless you know it is different, if so, use that)
    - Enter your router's IP (on the Network Config Page) for the gateway.
    - Enter 8.8.8.8 for the first DNS and 8.8.4.4 for the second DNS. This is Google DNS. You can choose another external DNS if you wish.
    - Click 'Apply'.
Now, shut down the router and printer, start the router, wait, then start the printer.
After this you may need to redo 'Add a Printer' using the new IP address.

  • Why do my programs close when computer goes to sleep

why do my programs close when computer goes to sleep?

What do you mean by "close"? Your open applications stay open when you put your computer to sleep. However, if you have an app like iMovie open, for example, and you are exporting a video, than exporting will pause when your computer is asleep.

  • 7510e printer loses internet connectivity when it goes to sleep

I own a 7510e all in one printer, I connected it wireless again after having it connected with a USB
cable, I had to do this because my printer loses internet connectivity when it goes to sleep or if I get a power outage, this has been going on since I purchased it last year. I got a new wireless router/modem combo from my ISP server and hoped that would solve the problem but it has not.
I cannot get any apps except for those that are on the front of my printer which are just for small kids. I am now told that this printer has been discontinued and 7520 has replaced it, I do not wish to spend another $200.00 in less than a year for a printer. It is registered with HP connected and I have a Efax # and HP connected address, I did everything correctly but it seems that each time I set it up wireless it messes up my desktop windows 7 home premium 64 bit, cloud services told me not to use  IE 10 but we are ready to download IE11 so I am using IE 10, this time HP support assistant quit working and I could not even uninstall it until I downloaded microsoft fix it and then redownloaded it from HP web site.
If anyone has any ideas I would appreciate it, I am not on a home group yet it always tells me I do not have administrators permission to do a lot of things, I am the only user.

  • My imac loses wifi connection when it goes to sleep, how to correct?

My iMac loses wif connection when it goes to sleep.  How do I correct?

Are you running OS X Lion? If so there are unfortunately numerous threads on here discussing exactly the same problem. So far there doesn't seem to be a definitive solution, with everyone hoping that Apple will come up with a permanent fix.
Here's a quick search of these forums alone - depressing reading:

I have just got an iMac 21" and it continuously freezes when it goes to sleep and also when the internet is trying to load, i have tried three different browsers but it still does it (safari, google chrome and firefox), does anyone know what is wrong?

To fix the freezing when sleeping problem go to System Preferences>Energy Saver and set 'Computer Sleep' to 'Never'. It seems there is a problem for some with Bluetooth failing to wake after sleep. This fixes it 100% for me and many others on here, until Apple issue a software update to address it.
Not sure what to suggest on the internet problem. I assume you are connected and receive and send emails OK.
Edit: To try to troubleshoot the internet issue maybe try turning the Firewall off: System Preferences>Security & Privacy>Firewall tab.

This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of the test is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party software that loads automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, by a font conflict, or by corruption of the file system or of certain system caches.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards, if applicable. Start up in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. You must hold down the shift key twice: once when you turn on the computer, and again when you log in.
Note: If FileVault is enabled in OS X 10.9 or earlier, or if a firmware password is set, or if the startup volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to start up and run than normal, with limited graphics performance, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and Wi-Fi on certain models. The next normal startup may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually login automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem?
After testing, restart as usual (not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of the test.

  • Macbooks lose wireless network connections when they go to sleep

I work off a Mac in a busy office. We have a password-protected wireless network. The password is saved on my computer. Our landlord has an unprotected network. When I boot up, my Macbook tells me that it "can't find" any of my "trusted networks" and asks me if I want to join my landlord's. I say, no, pick the password protected network from the airport menu and log on. When the computer goes to sleep (or I shut the lid to put it to sleep), upon waking up, it asks me the same question. Usually takes a few seconds to find the right network.
I have this problem in two offices with two wireless, password protected networks. One of the networks is brand new. My boss got a MacBook Pro running Snow Leopard and now he's having that problem on the brand new network, recently upgraded for future Electronic Medical Records applications.
Only his problem is worse because it won't remember the network password. He gets the "not connected to the internet message," runs network diagnostics, chooses the protected network, reenters password, finally connects to the Internet, then has to close the computer to run back to work. (Quite comical if you're not getting the heat for it.)
Note, neither of us have this problem in our homes where our computers run on Airport Extreme networks.
Is there anything we can do to ensure that the Macbooks always find the password protected network and we don't have to re-enter the network password every time?

Thank you very much for your answer. Now I admit I'm a total non-techie. I see how to choose networking from system preferences and change location from automatic to new network. Then I can manually add the network. But do I also have to 'set macs to remember previous networks' and if so, how do I do that?

  • MBP 13in drops wifi when computer goes to sleep, I have to restart the computer to reconnect. Help?

I recently did the Lion update on my MBP.  Since then my computer will drop wifi connection everytime the computer goes to sleep.  It will not let me log on network saying invailed password.  I have to restart the computer and then it connects automatically.  This is NOT a router problem. Skip any and all advice about routers.  I have 4 other Apple products all connected to wifi perfectly.  This is a MBP issue.  Please help.

On the MBP, go to /Library/Preferences/System Configuration
Move all the files in the System Configuration folder to the Trash.
    Restart the Mac.
It will not let me log on network saying invailed password
Just in case, open Keychain Access located in /Applications/Utilities
    Select Passwords on the left.
Use the search field top right corner of the window to locate your network keychain.
Now right or control click the keychain then click Get Info then select the Attributes tab.
    Click: Show password
    Make sure it's correct.
    And launch AirPort Utility  /Applications/Utilities
Select the connection on the left the click Manual Setup.
Select AirPort from the menu then select the Wireless tab.
Make sure the password is available there then click Update.

  • HT3964 My MacBook Pro i5 Dual Core has a hardtime waking up when the computer is put to sleep and only when it goes to sleep and has been asleep for a while. The indicator light flashes on and off for a while and then freezes. I've done an SMC reset once.

Does any one have the same problem with their MacBook Pro i5 Intel Dual Core?  If the computer goes to sleep (not the screen) and is asleep for a while, when I try to wake it up it doesn't respond. I have to power it downn and restart it and sometimes it takes two or three attempts. Otherwise it works fine. I upgraded the memory to 8 GB. That is the only alteration doen to it. I've performed one SMC restart and now it wakes up  but it takes a while and a gray screen shows up. When I insert a DVD it won't start automatically I have to start the application in order to see it. Any suggestions?
