Loosing all the photos during the upgrade from 4 to 6?

i-Photo- from 4 to 6
My trusty e-mac ( G-4 1gig) blew out it's optical drive so yesterday i had a new 16X installed. I needed to upgrade my OS to run iLife 06 and the new optical drive. My old configuration (OS 10.10 was running iPhoto4. OS 10.4.6 is now installed, iLife 06 is installed. Cool. Except as I launch iPhoto for the first time the warning is "that I will loose all my photos..." (6600 of them) I have made a backup on an external HD folder of my iPhoto Library (6.5 Gigs). Where is the step by step proceedure to have iPhoto06 and all my family and Location Scouting photos and albums just the way i organized them?
thanks

Vim:
Is that the the exact warning that you get? I don't remember those exact words from before. Make a backup copy of your iPhoto Library folder and then download and run BatChmod on the original iPhoto Library folder with the settings shown here, substituting your account name for mine. You can either type in the path to the folder or just drag the folder into that field.
Make sure you've upgraded iPhoto to the latest version, 6.0.4. Then launch iPhoto and let it have a go at the library. With the backup copy there's no risk and we'll see if BatChmod helped at all.
Do you Twango?
