Loosing folders in Mail

l I am using mail Version 6.2 (1499) in Mountain Lion. I have two hosted Exchange accounts and the two mailboxes seem to loose some or all of the subfolders or inbox messages almost every day. Rebuild helps sometimes but not always. Removing and re-adding accounts helps, but I can't do it every day. My mailboxes are too big to sync every day. Sometimes all the inbox contents disappears. How to fix this problem?

I have this exact problem. Mail accounts are hosted on corporate Exchange Server. Since upgrading to Mountain Lion, Mail intermittently loses one or more folders in the Exchange accounts. Deleting and recreating the account(s) in Mail will bring tghem back as does renaming the folders in Outlook on the PC and then getting new messages in Mail (or quitting and re-opening). Unfortunately, this is not a practical solution as some mailboxes are multiple gigs in size (once it was my "Sent Items" filder) and and I am working remotely and Mail tries to copy all the emails across from Exchange each time  folder(s) are "rediscovered". This saturates my internet link and is costing a fortune in data usage. In addition, it does not permantently fix the problem - in a matter of hours or days the folder or folders will disappear again (not necessarily the same ones).
I've also tried checking and unchecming "Autodiscover", changing Exchange server names to direct IP addresses or domains that resolve to the same address - nothing helps.
Any suggestions?

  • TS4083 Is there a way or a setting my folders in Mail to automatically update across all devices? if I transfer an email to a folder for follow-up on my PC, my folder in Mail on my iPhone doesn't update until I actually go into the folder and update manua

Is there a way (or a setting) for my individual folders in Mail to automatically update across all devices? For example, if I transfer an email to a folder for follow-up on my PC - say 10th of the following month - the same folder in Mail on my iPhone doesn't update until I actually go into the folder and update manually.  Interestingly though, if I create a new folder on any of my devices they automatically appear on the other devices so it is just the actual contents that I am referring to here.  Appreciate any help or guidance.
    Regards
    Justin

You can turn mail off in the settings but then you can't use it for anything, including the "test" that you want to perform.
Settings>Mail, Contacts, Calendars>Account Name>Mail>Off. That totally turns off the mail account.
As long as mail is turned on and you launch the app, it will look for an download new mail.

  • Discrepancy Between Mobile Me Folders and Mail Folders on iMac

    Hi there,
When I use Mail 4.2 and check the number of messages in a folder I see a different number from what displays when I log in on the web at www.me.com.
I checked under Library\Mail and my account for some folders and the Messages folder under a specific mailbox does not display any messages either. Therefore, it seems that the Mobile Me web mail is not giving a true representation.
I have also noticed that my Sync settings for Mobile Me keep getting unchecked when I look at those settings. I have to re-enable this on a regular basis. Could this have anything to do with my problem? I think this started after I enabled my Google account to sync with my address book and also iCal.
I have tried syncing and have no problems so I am not sure what else to check. I suspect that there are messages in folders that Mail is not able to access which is puzzling.
Ideas and suggestions as to how to proceed to reclaim the messages in Mail would be much appreciated. One folder in particular has almost 1 GB of data that is not showing up on Mail but when you open that same folder on webmail it is not displaying messages there either but I think they're present because I'm missing a large amount of e-mail.
Thanks in hopeful anticipation as to how to resolve this.
    Lynn

As I said I thought I had solved this problem, but apparently I still have this situation. If I set up my .Mac mail account in a Mozilla application I see not only the current folders but also the names of any previous folders that were used on .Mac. I know the profile in Mozilla is not the issue, it's the .Mac account. Therefore, how can all these old folders on .Mac be permanently removed? They must be hiding somewhere on the server but how would this be tracked down? Would it have to be done by Apple? I'm talking about 25 folders that are affected, i.e., no longer used or resident on the account.
Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

  • How do you create sub-folders in Mail?

    Hello, thanks for reading.
I have several domains and email accounts relating to different businesses and each account needs various associated archive folders for receipts, licences, customers, sales, newsletters, and so on...
With a sub-folder for each email kept for future reference on each account, this is a total of around 100 folders over 4 email accounts. Mail folders treat emails like songs in iTunes and that just doesn't work. The ideal solution is to have sub-folders within each mailbox.
If sub-folders aren't an option, can anyone suggest a way around this?! I might be able to slim it down to 20 folders but that would make finding an old email a little harder, especially if I don't know the email account it relates to or the sender.
I did all this easily on Outlook Express, which I think is available for Mac, right?

I've got tons of sub-folders in Mail.
I think the key is to understand that a mailbox is represented by a folder icon.
If you select a folder (mailbox), when you choose Mailbox/New Mailbox, the new folder appears inside the folder you highlighted. If not, you can drag it inside another folder as mentioned previously.

  • How do I duplicate the folders in Mail on my Mac to Mail in iCloud?

I have set up a series of folders in Mail on my Mac where I file all of my emails.
During the day I often access Mail on a PC via iCloud and there are no folders set up on my iCloud version.
Is it possible to duplicate my folder set up from Mail on my Mac to Mail on iCloud and to have changes made on one (e.g. messages deleted, new folders raised etc.) reflected on the other?

You should create your mail folders on the iCloud server (under ICLOUD in Mail), not locally on your Mac (under ON MY MAC) for them to show up on other devices and at iCloud.com.
Anything stored locally on your Mac only exists on that specific Mac so leave all your mail on the server and organise it there.

  • Can I set up personal folders in Mail?

Can I set up personal folders in mail like I do in yahoo mail or outlook? I have multiple clients at a time and would like to set up folders for each one. I find it irritating to scroll through all the emails looking for what I need.
    Thanks in advance.

  • Are there LOCAL FOLDERS in Mail?

Would anyone mind giving me a heads up as to whether there are Local Folders in Mail? Is this different than "Archiving"?
I currently have a whole bunch of folders that exist in one of my primary email accounts - that I am using to sort mail - and it appears to me that these are not working so well (slow to move, slow to access, I have to close out of Mail to see a folder rename etc).
I would like to try and move these "off" the server and see if they can be managed with a little more precision.
    Thanks,

    Hi Ernie.
Thanks very much for the help.
I seem to have found that moving a folder from an IMAP account to the On My Mac account does in fact work. The only problem I am seeing is that the old folder remains in the IMAP account which basically makes it a little difficult to know for a fact that all the mail in that folder has been moved over. I wonder if it is possible to /force/ a move in this instance...
I suppose the alternative is in fact to create a new folder on On My Mac and to move the individual emails as you seem to suggest.
Do you mind if I ask you here if there is a reliable way to delete duplicate emails in Mail? I seem to have ended up with a lot of these over the years and it would be nice to move forward in a little more of a streamlined manner if possible.
    Thanks and Regards.

  • Missing gmail folders in Mail for Mt. Lion

I moved a lot of email to a gmail account to archive it (originally from MS Exchange), creating mail folders to hold the mail. This worked fine. But on updating to Mt. Lion, I can no longer see any of these folders, only the stock gmail folder (All Mail, Bin, Drafts, Important, Sent Mail, Spam, and Starred). I can see these folders and mail when I look at the account via a browser, but these folders are no longer accessible via Apple Mail. What happened and is there a solution to this?

Tried it. No difference. There are just the stock gmail folders visible. Note that I CREATED the folders and moved the mail using Apple Mail in Lion a couple months ago. It is only since upgrading to Mt. Lion have they been inaccessible.

  • Finding Public Folders in Mail App through Exchange

I am using Outlook on the Windows side and all my Public Folders are there.  Where can I find them in the Mail App in OSX Lion?  I noticed that there are two choices to make a new account in the app.  One is Exchange, and the other is Exchange IMAP.  I chose the Exchange, and I'm guessing that has something to do with it.  Its just that if I chose IMAP, all my junk filtering goes away that I set up in Outlook.

Its not there. I have not found a way ever to get public folders in Mail App. I wish there was, but i cannot find any solution.
I have been looking for about a year on this, but no luck

  • Duplicated folders in Mail from iCloud account

Hi, I have a little problem with Mail in Mac OS X Mountain Lion and iCloud. I use the last release, with all upgrades done.
When I use Mail, sometimes (and always when I use the Sync function in Mail) I get duplicated folders from iCloud.
A little pic to show what I mean:
The "other" folders in iCloud are active: I find often some messages in the Junk folder, but I can't turn off this function in iCloud...
What can I do not to have these iCloud folders in Mail? And how can I turn off the junk function in iCloud (not in Mail)?
    Thank you,
    Andrea

And when a message goes into the "Junk" folder in iCloud, not in "Indesiderata" (Junk) in Mail?
    I wouldn't see it...
What can I do to disable the Junk function in iCloud, and use only the same function in Mail?

  • Folders in Mail

I can't seem to find info on how to load or create folders within Mail on my iPhone. All I find is in the manual it states that items can be moved to folders but nothing about how to get those folders in there to start with nor a way to sync them along with the mail accounts. I have folders, both smart mailboxes and regular folders, in my OS X Mail on my system but they have not translated.
Anyone know what I am missing here?
    Thanks!

    The same happens to everyone.
An IMAP account is designed to be accessed with an email client on multiple computers or devices keeping all server stored mailboxes for the account synchronized automatically with each email client used to access the account. You can store the account's Drafts, Sent, Trash and Junk mailboxes on the server with an IMAP account, and create additional server stored mailboxes with the email client used on your computer for accessing the account to sort received and sent messages by category - which will be available with the iPhone's Mail client automatically and will also be kept synchronized with the server with each email client used to access the account.
This is not possible with a POP account, which is designed to be accessed with a single email client only.

  • After upgrading to mavericks all my folders in Mail are gone, with important documents, does anyone have any ideas how I can retrieve them? Thanks Warren

    Hi,
After upgrading to Mavericks, all my mail folders in Mail are gone.  Does anyone else have this problem or know how to fix this. I only use the apple Mail, not anything else like gmail etc. Its very frustrating as I had importantant documents there.
    Thanks

  • How do I set up additional folders in Mail to enable me to move read e-mails yet still retain them

How do I set up additional folders in Mail (in the left hand panel under inbox/trash/drafts etc ) to enable me to move messages
that I have read.  I do not wish to leave them clogging up the page but like to have folders for Apple/Amazon etc.
    Any advice wouldbe gratefully received.
I can find the symbol to move the message but cannot figure out how to make the new folder
    thanks

You can't create mail folders on the iPad. If you are using an IMAP/Exchange account you can set up folder on another device and they will be reflected on the iPad. If you have an POP3 account there is no way.

  • Can I restore local folders in mail from those stored on icloud?

While trying to free up space on icloud, I disconnected my icloud email from mail on my mac only to find that I had inadvertentty removed the account all together. After re-synching the accounts, I found that I had lost all of my folders within mail on my mac even though they were retained within icloud. Is there any way to get these folders back on my local drive?

In the side bar do you see a listing for iCloud. like this?
