Loosing images when exporting to pdf file from Indesign?

I didn't have this problem before, however as I started using the master page presets some of the pages are not saving properly to pdf version. The master sheets doesnt show up on some of the pages but shows up on others.
Does anyone know why that is?

It does not show in preview.
It shows in the indesign file, but not in preview. The stuff that disappears are from the master page, they show on some pages but not on others. Which is very strange.
I have taken more shots.
Master F sheet is applied for this page.
The other page i posted previously started working when I applied a different master sheet over it.

  • PDF Bookmarks - Change Default Width When Creating PDF File from InDesign

    When creating a PDF file (from Indesign CS4) I automatically create the PDF bookmarks based on the InDesign document's Table of Contents.
    But by default the width in the bookmarks is always set at "Fit Page".
    Is there a way to change the default to "Fit Width" in Indesign before the PDF is created?
    It's too much trouble to change every bookmark in the PDF after it's created.
    Thanks for any help in advance!

    Thanks, Steve. I have actually previously done what "fogharty" suggests and it does work if I want to set the pages to "fit width" or a variety of other options. However, none of the options is inherit zoom which is what I, and many other from the sound of the thread, need and want. We want to respect our end users--not dictate how they must view our PDFs. Hopefully, Adobe will listen and make this option available soon.

  • When I download .pdf files from my office they are converted to .ashx files

    When I download a .pdf file from my Outlook mail box at my office, Firefox reads it as an .ashx file. However if I use Safari, it is read correctly as a .pdf file.
    How can I fix my Firefox browser?
    An IT person at my office said I should reset the download actions by deleting mime.Types.rdf, but I can't even find this file.

  • Adobe 8 - Unexpected Corrupt or incorrect file type warning when viewing a PDF file from the Web

    Hi,
    On downloading a PDF file from my web site using Adobe 8 on the client machine I expect the file to open automatically however I receive encounter the "File Download" dialog. It has the following warning message: "The file you are downloading cannot be opened by the default program. It is either corrupted or it has an incorrect file type. As a security precaution, it is recommended that you cancel the download."
    This issue did not occur within previously tested versions of Adobe Reader (e.g. Version 5.1).
    On investigating the issue I discovered the factor that results in Adobe 8 failing to open the file automatically is the Content-Type = "application/pdf; Charset=utf-8". However, if I intercept the response and alter the Content-Type to contain only "application/pdf;" the issue on Adobe 8 does not occur.
    I have even tested when the Content-Type contains an empty Charset (i.e. "application/pdf; Charset=") but this issue still occurs. In addition setting the Charset to other encodings (e.g. "ISO-LATIN-7", "iso-8859-1") the issue occurs.
    QUESTION(s):
    1. Why is it necessary for Adobe 8 when opening PDF files from the web to expect no Charset within the Content-Type?
    2. If this was not an issue within previous versions of Adobe surly this is a bug?
    Since I cannot ensure that the Response's Content-Type does not contain a Charset at all please can someone suggest either a work-around or more importantly a solution to the issue?
    Please Note:-
    1. Within Adobe, Edit -> Preferences -> Internet option it's compulsory for our users to have "Display PDF in browser" ticked!
    2. We cannot prevent a Charset from being present within the Content-Type of the response sent to the client, hence this issue.
    Many Thanks in advance,
    Martin.

    Bill,
    This is exactly the same behavior I observed when I rendered a PDF stored in a database through a .NET page. If I chose to save it, it would open fine after the save, but if I chose to open it in the browser without saving it, I would get the error.
    The problem was not with the PDF or Acrobat. It was with the way I was delivering the PDF. Putting the following code before my binarywrite fixed the issue completely:
    Response.ClearHeaders()
    Response.ClearContent()
    Response.ContentType = "application/octet-stream"
    Response.AddHeader("content-disposition", "attachment; filename=" + saveFilename)
    where saveFileName is the name you want to give the PDF.
    You can use 'inline' instead of 'attachment' above if you just want the PDF to open (no option to save first). You can also use 'pdf' instead of 'octet-stream' (not sure the difference).
    The trouble seems to be that .NET puts some info in the header and/or content by default prior to anything your code says to write. If you don't clear this, IE has an issue with it. Other browsers seem to ignore it.
    Bottomline is that this is an issue the website programmer needs to fix and is not something the user can fix by changing some setting(s).
    I hope this helps.

  • PDF Files from InDesign to larger

    Hi
    I just upgrade my acrobat pro to 9.3.3. And im running Snow leopard.
    So - now the ps (print postscript) option is also gone for me.
    I have som old files from indesign, i printet at ps file and used my
    distiller to make the pdf file.
    Result = 168 kb
    If i export this from indesign, CS4
    I use same distiller settings
    Result = 860 kb.
    If i export this from indesign, CS4
    I now use smalles file settings
    Result = 290 kb.
    WHY is it not possible to make smaller pdf files direct from indesign.
    Also Press files get very large.

    Here's an article explaining some of the things stripped from your document when you use Distiller, compared to the Export function in inDesign

  • PDF Files from InDesign much larger than Quark- Distiller, why?

    We've recently switched our publishing workflow for one of our pubs from Quark to InDesign, and are having issues with PDFs being really large. Previously, the pub would be PS'd out of QXP6.52 and then ran through our Distiller service at Press Ready quality settings. The resulting PDF files were 4-6mb (This is only a 2-page pub).
    Now, moving to InDesign, we PDF directly from InDesign (or I've also tried PSing and then Distilling), and using Press Ready Quality settings still -- the resultant PDF files are 15-16mb. Can anyone theorize as to what would create such a large difference between the two?
    This is using a few issues of the pub - not just one instance, as well.
    Thanks

    7. Yes, the file and links are using transparency.
    This is probably the answer.
    Recreate the page in InDesign with no transparency (as a test). This means all links are tiff or eps. No use of opacity or blend modes. No drop shadows.
    This is how it would have been in Quark 6, which did not support transparency (the newer kind anyway)
    Note: if you had overlying drop shadows in Quark 6 they would have had to have been bitmap tiffs.
    I also should mention: transparency is a good thing. There may be a way to get the file size down without removing transparency. Possibly you could use Acrobat to do this.
    Also note I posted a couple of updates on my previous post, they may or may not be relevant.

  • ID CS hangs on one particular image when exporting to pdf

    I use ID 3.01, and have created a two-page folder, with 10 images. I cannot create a pdf, because ID hangs when downloading one image during the export process. It's an 8-bit CMYK Tiff, one layer only, saved without compression. The only thing that makes this image different, is that it has some InDesign text and graphics on top of it. (I tried to remove all the text and graphics, and I also tried embedding the images before exporting, but it made no difference)
    The image opens without any problems in Photoshop, and is editable. I have also tried to do a Save As under a new name, which didn't help. The image originates from my Nikon D70, but so do other images too.
    The folder is due to be printed on Thursday, so any help will be greatly appreciated.

    As this is a camera original file, are its resolution settings in a normal range? I.e., verify in PhotoShop that it's not trying to put >5000 pixels into either 0.1 inch or 5000 inch (your numbers may vary).
    I've had ID behave erratically with such files, which was solved when I changed the resolution settings in PS.

  • Indesign CS4 adds square boxes around images when exporting to PDF

    When I export a brochure created in InDesign to PDF, for some reason the .pdf file (only the PDF - the InDesign version doesn't show these) shows faint squares around images/graphics that have shadow effects applied. These appear around photos, as well as graphic objects that have a solid colour background, for example an orange circle. Some suggested rasterizing images in Illustrator and that didn't help. Transparency doesn't seem to be at fault either. Would anyone have any idea what may be causing this and how to remedy the problem?
    FYI, the PDF export pre-sets in InDesign are as follows (I only mention options that are checked, the rest are turned off):
    COMPATIBILITY: Acrobat 5 (PDF 1.4)
    GENERAL:
         HIGH QUALITY PRINT (modified)
         Export Layers:Visible & Printable Layers
    COMPRESSION:
         COLOR IMAGES:
         Bicubis Downsampling to 300 pixels per inch for images above 450 pixels per inch
         Compression: Automatic JPEG
         Image Quality: Maximum
      GRAYSCALE IMAGES:
         Bicubis Downsampling to 300 pixels per inch for images above 450 pixels per inch
         Compression: Automatic JPEG
         Image Quality: Maximum
      MONOCHROME IMAGES:
         Bicubis Downsampling to 1200 pixels per inch for images above 1800 pixels per inch
         Compression: Automatic JPEG
         Compression: CCITT Group 4
    FYI - I use Mac OSX 10.5.8 and InDesign 6.0.3.
    I have attached the PDF for your review.
    With many thanks,
    Alex

    BTW, don't use OSX's preview to look at PDFs created by InDesign if they take advantage of high end features such as live transparency.
    Preview simply isn't up to the task and you should be using Acrobat or Reader.

  • Crop mark on image when exporting to PDF

    When I export my INDD file to PDF, crop marks appear on one of the images (an EPS file) in the converted document. The crop marks do not appear in the INDD file, nor are they part of the original EPS file. Any idea what's happening and how to get rid of it?

    Screen shots would help here, but the first thing I would try is replace the EPS file with a native file format, either .al for vector or .psd for raster, or PDF for mixed content.

  • Why does a red line is appearing when generating a pdf file from illustrator?

    I create my slide using illustrator (from CS2 to CS5) and when I save the file in pdf format, a red line is being created around the rectangle border of the silde.
    I don't know how it was generated and what to do to remove it.
    I need help please.

    car-c,
    Is it vector or raster artwork?
    Slides?
    A few images might reveal something, one preferably being a screenshot with the artwork selected, maybe along with an opened Leyer.

  • Gray rule around clipped images when exporting as PDF?

    I've been clipping images in Photoshop CS6 (Macbook Pro retina) and placing them in my InDesign layout but when I export to PDF, a gray rule appears around the clipped images. It is not visable anywhere in the Photoshop files. Thank you for any advise!

    Thank you for the reply. I'm placing the image as a photoshop file, with layers. I clipped the background out using clipping paths and/or masks, added drop shadows, fixed the color a bit. Here is a screen shot of the PDF: the shadow is correct but not the hard gray rules.

  • Blank images when exporting to PDF

    I am trying to export a 20+ page spread indesign file to PDF. When doing so, some of the images are showing blank once it has been exported. What is happening?

    Well, miraculously it started working, but in case it happens again.. here is more information.  I am using CS5. I have made a portfolio of my design work and only some of the files are blank. I used PDF interactive. Some of the images in my portfolio are line drawings and others are charcoal drawings. Only Some of the line drawings are the ones that are just blank when I export it.

  • Printing an exported PDF file from InDesign

    I have exported a few documents form InDesign to PDF. When I print the documents, some parts get cut off (top section or bottom section) but there is still room on the paper. I'ts like the printer decides not to print those sections. I am printing on 5x7inch paper and all my documents show their sizes as 5x7inches.

    Here is an image I think might help... When I choose any of the size options, (fit, actual size, shrink oversized pages, or custom scale) it prints the doument exactly how I see in the preview whether or not I have the "Choose Paper Source by PDF Page Size" box checked.

  • File size or resolution when exporting to PDF file.

    Hello,
    I'm using the following code to export my reports to PDF format, by an ASP.NET page:
    CType(crReportClientDoc, CrystalDecisions.ReportAppServer.ClientDoc.ReportClientDocument).PrintOutputController.Export(CrReportExportFormatEnum.crReportExportFormatPDF)
    But I need to produce files with sizes lower than now. Making some tests in Adobe, I note if I reduce the pdf resolution, the files became with a reduced size. Does anyone know if is it possible to configure the resolution when generating PDF files by Crystal? I looked to ExportEx method and PDFExportFormatOptionsClass, but I didn't find any about it.
    Thanks to all

    Nope. Crystal uses an old version of pdf (1.x I believe) for backward compatibility reasons.
    There is no way to reduce the size of the pdf that you export other than changing what is on the report itself.

  • Can I use applescript to export a PDF file from keynote?

    I use keynote to create documentation. Once complete I export the keynote to a PDF and then package the pdf into an adobe acrobat reader portfolio. I desperately need to script this process. Is it possible to export a PDF from keynote via applescript? The second 1/2 is can I tell acrobat reader to import files into a portfolio. Thanks much for any help.

    I believe this is one of the few things Applescript can accomplish with Keynote '09. You can send keyboard short-cuts to Menu Commands in an Applescript – so you can just send a Cmd-P to KN'09. As for setting the Print/PDF options not sure but the dialogue remembers previous settings so you'd only have to set once at most per batch of slideshows. Post on Applescript thread to get specific scripting advice or Applescript developers email list.
