Loosing internet when using 11n

Hello
I own a MacBook Pro (Late 2008), and just bought a Airport Extreme. I found in Network utility that I always connected to the b/g network and never to the n. I then manually changed the AP Extreme to divide it into two separate channels (airport and airport 5 GHz).
If I then swap to the 5 GHz, I always loose my internet connectibility and have large difficulties connecting to the basestation.
The network assistant has the connection as Active, speed 300, and I got an IP-address.
Can the problem be that I bought the basestation in USA and my computer in Sweden?
Grateful for all answers
Daniel Westin, VDM

Can the problem be that I bought the basestation in USA and my computer in Sweden?
Possibly, because although both countries use a number of common channels, each has access to a number of them that are unique for each country. In addition, the AirPorts do not necessarily have a complete set of channels available in any specific country it was designed to be used in.
The following is the list of available 5 GHz channels in Sweden: 36, 40, 44, 48, 52, 56, 60, 64, 100, 104, 108, 112, 116, 120, 124, 128, 132, 136, & 140
The US AirPort has the following 5 GHz channels available: 36, 40, 44, 48, 149, 153, 157 & 163.
As you can see, using the US AirPort in Sweden only gives you four channels (36, 40, 44, & 48) to work with.
To use this AirPort, you should change the Radio Channel selection from Automatic to one of the four listed above.

  • Loosing internet when in DHCP and NAT mode

Hello and thank you for your help.  I am a novice.
I am using a 2009 macbook pro 10.7.5 with Mountain Lion
Originally my airport extreme setup was for " DHCP and NAT ".
Since yesterday, I am only able to get internet via Bridge mode, but I have to sign in to my server network first, like a hotspot
This means that my internet timing is limited and the finder shows other personal computers that does not belong to my personal network.  My iphone cannot connect to my personal network without signing in the internet service provider website first as well
What happens when I try to update and restart AE to DHCP and NAT, is that I loose internet and get the following message in the airport extreme icon :
    "DOUBLE NAT:
This airport base station has a private IP address on its Ethernet WAN port.
It is connected to a device or network that is using NAT to provide IP addresses.
Change your Airport base station from using DHCO and NAT to bridge mode."
Now, I do not want bridge mode
My attempt to solve the problem was resetting AE to factory.  This created a new network. The new network appears in the network icon and it is WPA2 personal protected, like the previous one.
I appreciate your time and look foreward to solve my problem with some help in here - thank you again

Originally my airport extreme setup was for " DHCP and NAT ".
If it was, and you had a modem/router or gateway type of device "upstream" on the network, then you created a Double NAT error on the network.
Sometimes, you can get away with this on a simple network, and AirPort Utility does provide the option to "ignore" the error on the network, so the AirPort Extreme will display a green status light.....instead of blinking amber, which signals that something is amiss.
    "DOUBLE NAT:
This airport base station has a private IP address on its Ethernet WAN port.
It is connected to a device or network that is using NAT to provide IP addresses.
Change your Airport base station from using DHCO and NAT to bridge mode."
If you want to run in DHCP and NAT mode, you will have a Double NAT error on the network. Click the option to "ignore" the error.
Then, power cycle the entire network. That means powering everything off, waiting a minute, then starting the modem first and let it run a minute or two, then start the next device the same way. Keep starting devices one at a time about a minute apart until the entire network is back up.

  • Booted off Verizon Fios Internet when use VOIP phone.

When I use my VOIP phone while on the internet (I use Verison FIOS Internet), I get booted off the internet.  I have done what tech support said to do which was to do a hard reboot of the router but after a short while it does it again.  They had no more answers for me than that.  Does anyone else know what can be done?
    Thanks.

I have Fios Internet, TV and Phone and so I HAVE to use the Verizon router made by Actiontec. My Mac Book Pro is Leopard based.
Does the router have the latest firmware? Very important.
The problem is that I am paying for 20mbps service and getting about 6 to 8. This is regardless of where I am in physical relation to the router/modem and whether or not I am the only computer connected to the internet.
How are you measuring your speed?
PLEASE help. I have contacted Verizon and they have no ideas that help. I cannot watch Netflix or Boxee and even regular internet pages load painfully slowly.
I have a cable modem that runs at 10Mb/s and internet pages load instantly. On this Verizon DSL I am currently using, which creeps along at a mere 3 Mb/s, pages internet pages load instantly.
Even if your connection is 6 to 8 Mb/s, pages should load instantly, and streaming should work properly.
Clearly, you have some other problem with your system.
Again, how are you measuring your speed? What is your link speed? What are your measured upload and download speeds?
If you are using the router as a WiFi then you may not be getting the full speed you expect from a direct connection.
You need to supply much more real hard data than you have.
Your subject says that "Verizon Fios Internet, TV and Phone with Mac Book Pro is SLOW!" and Leopard has nothing to do with your TV or phone.

  • Time Capsule disconnects internet when using web server through port forwarding

My current config is: 2TB Time Capsule running 7.6.3, Mac Pro running Lion (10.7.5), MacBook Pro running Mountain Lion (10.8.3), and a couple of MacBook Pro Retinas running Mountain Lion. My current ISP is Comcast.
I have the Time Capsule set up to port forward port 80 to the Mac Pro for the purpose of running a web server. Most of the traffic is shuttling fairly large m4v files back and forth to work (work product from video editing work). I can reach the webserver on the Mac Pro just fine from the outside world, and can list files in the directory just fine. When I initiate a download (via right click on a link, "Save As..." or whatever), the Time Capsule reports that the Internet has been disconnected, and all machines inside my network lose access to the outside world. I have to either power cycle the Time Capsule, or disconnect/reconnect the Cat-6 cable between the cable modem and the Time Capsule to re-establish the connection. Interestingly, the download continues and completes on the other end without issue (so, the connection is actually still there!).
Before switching to Comcast, I was on AT&T Uverse - Uverse includes a router, so I had the TIme Capsule set up in Bridge Mode. That worked fine. I also have an older 500GB 1st generation Time Capsule. I set it up with the same config as my 2TB TC, and it shows the exact same behavior - internet disconnects upon initiating a file download through a forwarded port. I then hooked the Mac Pro up directly to the cable modem. I can initiate a download without issue, and I continue to stay connected to the Internet without problem. Called Comcast anyway - they report no errors on the line, but reset the whole device chain anyway. No change in behaviors.
I tried downgrading the Time Capsule software to 7.6.2 (the earliest version that came on it). No dice, same behavior.
So... I called Apple. Complete and utter FAIL. Apple Support reports that they have no training in the port forwarding features of the Time Capule or Airport products, and cannot help me resolve the issue because of that. So, I have a $300 router that apparently cannot perform a simple routing function (download through a forwarded port), that I cannot troubleshoot (because Airport software v7 is an epic fail in that regard), made by a company who cannot support it - and everything this $300 device is doing can be done by a $50 device with a $100 external hard drive?
Do I understand this situation correctly? What have I missed in trying to troubleshoot this thing?

Excellent summary.. I think you have covered all the salient points most thoroughly.
Port forwarding on the TC I would put into the category of "epic fail"
I have a nasty feeling it just doesn't work in many cases. Clearly from your situation the port is forwarded correctly.. it is the actual download that is causing the device to crash.. which is probably not the port forwarding itself that is at fault but rather the external link and opening another port for the download to happen.
Many of the issues were caused by using icloud and btmm.. which would work a lot better btw. Although the hassle there is needing to offer that as a service to any Tom Dick or Harry.
Let me suggest a work around or other things to try.
I also have an older 500GB 1st generation Time Capsule. I set it up with the same config as my 2TB TC, and it shows the exact same behavior - internet disconnects upon initiating a file download through a forwarded port.
Use 5.6 utility.. more info below. And take the firmware of this unit (Gen1) back to 7.5.2 (before icloud mess ups in 7.6).
You can go back to 7.5 firmware also in Gen4 TC if it is more than about 14months old.. Simply hold down the option key when you select firmware and the old versions will show up. If your TC came with 7.6.1 (the 7.6.2 was withdrawn as it was even bigger failure than 7.6.3). then you cannot go back.
You might also find downloading via http is not as reliable as using FTP.. FTP is a better and more efficient protocol. It should be no problem to setup ftp server on the mac pro to allow download via ftp even with a browser.
But in the end.. your $50 router suggestion.. well perhaps a little more than that.. $80-100 will work very well.. also this router can be setup with a Hard Disk and offer the files to the internet via FTP.. without needing full network access to your internal network.
How to load 5.6 into ML.
    1. Download 5.6 for Lion.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1482
Click to open the dmg but do not attempt to install the pkg.. it won't work anyway.
    2. Download and install unpkg.
    http://www.timdoug.com/unpkg/
Run unpkg on the desktop.. it is very simple.. drag the AirPortUtility56.pkg file over to unpkg.. and it will create a new directory of the same name on the desktop.. drill down.. applications utilities .. there lo and behold is Airport utility 5.6 .. drag it to your main utilities directory or just run it from current location.
You cannot uninstall 6.1 (now 6.2 if you updated) so don't try.. and you cannot or should not run them both at the same time.. so just ignore the toyland version.. the plastic hammer.. and start using 5.6.. a real tool.

If my XP wireless laptop is only powered ON the Vista desktop internet wired will work, I am not wired or wireless using the laptop, not in internet, only powered on.
If the laptop is off I have no internet on the desktop, still plugged thru the router.

When everything is on all is well for playing on the internet times two computers, but if you turn off the laptop I have to plug the internet directly into the desktop to continue in the internet.

  • Safari stalls internet when using Facebook

I recently purchased a Macbook for college and after setting the laptop up, I easily connected to our locked wireless within the house. It has been working perfectly fine in every room in the house, but when I log in to facebook.com and look at my profile page or anyone else's - the internet freezes. I then have to unplug the router and wait for it to reboot. No other website I go on affects the internet connection except for facebook. Is there anyway to resolve this problem or has anyone had the same difficulty? Thanks!

  • Itunes kills internet when using airport express

When I try to wi-fi music to a speaker with an airport express The Internet disconnects ?  This just started happening. I noticed that when I access system Prefs My network pane shows I am connected via wi-fi ?

I replace my Extreme with a newer Express (n) so I have two identical (n)-type Expresses, will the internet speed be the same as if I had one Express or will it be halved like you were saying?
If both the AirPort Extreme and AirPort Express are 802.11n devices, you can configure them to "extend wireless network" and maintain "n" speeds on the network. There will be a slight loss in bandwidth, but nothing like 50% which the WDS setup imposes unless your Express is located too far away from the Extreme.
The key here is to remember that the Express can only extend the quality of signal that it receives. It does not "boost" the signal, it makes it go further.

  • How can i run wireless internet when using windows xp on my imac?

I recently installed Windows XP on my imac using Boot Camp, everything works great except the internet. ive been looking but i have found no way to get the internet to work via my wireless connection, or is it just not possible?
Could it be that i am missing some drivers? Anyone know where i can get them?
Sorry if im asking too much stuff.
    Thanks in advance

Depending on the wireless base station brand and specifications,
you may have to set up the Windows system to find & use it...
    Just about the same as setting up any Windows PC to go online;
except, if you have an Apple base station...
If you have an AirPort base station, there are updates for Windows
to help use that access point, from your Mac, running Windows.
An example, but not necessarily the correct answer, in the following:
    • AirPort Utility 5.4.2 for Windows

Since you have posted this request in 10.5 Leopard> Automator
discussion, this won't be a suitable place to find matching replies.
see: Windows compatible technologies> Airport for Windows:

There are other topic discussions under the Windows area,

the bottom of the listings, you can see the larger group there.

  • HP Photosmart 7510 - loose connectivity when using Ethernet cable

    Need help!
I have an HP Photosmart 7510 all-in-one printer connected to my home network via wireless.
I have 1 Windows7 laptop which successfully connects to the printer via the home Ethernet network (laptop connected via cat5) - so the overall system appears to be working fine on Windows.
I also have 1 MacMini running OS X 10.7.5 which can ONLY print/scan if the Ethernet connection is UNPLUGGED from the MacMini (thus forcing me to use my very poor and unreliable wireless signal).
As soon as I plug in the Ethernet cable to the MacMini I loose all connectivity to the printer.  I have confirmed the Ethernet cable is good - as it works fine with my Windows7 laptop.
Has anyone figured out why I cannot use the physical Ethernet connection to communicate with the HP Photosmart?
    Thanks!

Just making sure, you're running the Ethernet cable from the printer to the router, then running another cable from the router to the Mac, correct?
Have you added the printer's queue to the Mac once the Ethernet cable is connected, or does it not show up in Print and Scan?

  • SP2013 - Date Filter Web Part looses connection when used in a site template

    Hi,
I created two table reports in SQL Reporting Services 2012 and inserted in a web page using the Reporting Service Report viewer in SharePoint 2013 with CU Dez 2013. The two reports require two dates and I use two date filter web parts (I did not try the
date range solution I saw in the fórum).
So the user inputs the two dates in date filters that send the information to thereports in the same page.
They work in the site and I saved it as template. However when I create e new site using it as a templates, the date filter connections are broken and of course, they did not work.
For another report where I usea text filter, it worked without any problem in the template.
    Does anybody know any workaround?
    Thank you.
Best regards, Ricardo Segawa - Segawas Projetos / Microsoft Partner

    Hi ,
The new site based on the saved site template will generate new ID for date filter web part, in the web part page the SPWebPartConnection "ProviderID" value seems still to reference the original date filter web part ID (see from
SharePoint Designer), as a workaround we can re-configure the web part connection from the web part page manually or programmatically from that new site web part page.
