Loosing network settings after cloning a working installation to another machine

Hi all,
we're actually preparing a basic installation for a few users for testing Mavericks in our environment.
Everything seems to work fine except the network settings. If we clone to exactly the same machine type (eg. MacMini 4,1) all works nicely but when we colne to a MacMini 5,3 all settings are gone (DNS, domains, IPv6, proxy).
The settings seem to live in /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/ and dropping the files "preferences.plist" and/or "NetworkInterfaces.plist" from one machine to another breaks the settings.
Is there a new place to put a kind of default netork settings plist that isn't overwritten or corrupted when copied?
Hope you habe some hints to me!  Thanxx...          A3k

Hi all,
since we didn't found a solution for this we stopped trying to put the network settings in the template but instead we setup the network with a little shell script at first start using "networksetup".
Thanks for taking a look...      A3k

    Hello dthlah,
Thanks for the question. Based on the information you have provided, it sounds like your Wi-Fi option on an iPhone 4S is greyed out. The following article explains this issue and potential resolution:
iOS: Wi-Fi settings grayed out or dim
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1559
Follow these steps to resolve the issue:
    1. Verify that airplane mode is off by tapping Settings > Airplane Mode.
    2. Reset the network settings by tapping Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings.
Note: This will reset all network settings, including Bluetooth pairing records, Wi-Fi passwords, VPN, and APN settings
    3. Ensure that your device is using the latest software. To do so, connect your device to your computer and check for updates in iTunes.
    4. If your issue is still unresolved, perform a software restore in iTunes.
If you are still unable to turn Wi-Fi on, please contact Apple for support and service options.
    Thanks,
    Matt M.

  • ATV looses network settings every day since latest update

I've had no problems with my ATV since I bought it after Macworld. I installed the latest 2.1 update (from 2.0.1) a couple weeks ago. Now it forgets the network settings at least once a day. It sees the network just fine but doesn't remember the password. After I reenter the password, all is fine for a few minutes to a few hours. Then it's back to square one. Any ideas anyone?

I got my new 160G ATV yesterday. Set up was fine for the first 2 hours, then lost the connection & network settings. I had to do a factory restore to get it to recognize the network again, after restarting, cold-booting the works. Once again worked fine for about 12 hours, then it lost the settings again. Tried the restart, cold boot and factory restore...found my wireless network, but would not accept my WEP key. Updated the software, tried switching to WPA/WPA2, nothing. Finally removed all security settings and it's been now working for 16 hours no prob. This is NOT and ideal solution. I had begun to think it was my router, but now after seeing all these posts I realize that this is a common problem. For now I'm OK, but I really don't want folks freeloading off me. SO APPLE YOU NEED TO FIX THIS AND SOON!

  • ATV looses network settings

I have a problem with my ATV. I normally switch the ATV off (I pull out the power cord), when I'm not at home.
After having downloaded a new version oof the ATV version, the ATV looses the network settings and the password after the restart, so I have to reenter always when I turn it on again.
Does anybody know how I can prevent entering all settings again after every restart?
    Thanks and regards,
    Seb

For better or for worse, the ATV wasn't designed to be powered off so frequently. I would recommend keeping it plugged in and only pull the plug on it when it needs a hard reset to clear problems that can't be cleared by less disruptive means.

  • Network Settings After Router reset

My telephone switchboard had a fault (unknown to me) which made my ADSL Router interfere with my telephone. Initially I suspected that my router was faulty and went through a sequence of checks to isolate the problem. this included resetting the router to its factory settings. The switchboard problem having been fixed, the interference from the router ceased (the router was not the problem) and I proceeded to reconnect to my ISP but could not do so. The router gave solid DSL and Ethernet lights and I appeared to be connected but I could not open any pages in Safari. In desperation, I booted from my external hard drive; I was able to connect straight away and was able to reset my ADSL username and password. However, this only works on my external boot drive. When I re-boot using my internal drive I am unable to open any pages in Safari. It appears that something in my Network settings (?) on my main drive has been corrupted, but I cannot work out what (It is not Safari as that worked okay when I was booted from the external drive). Could it be my Network Preference Pane? How should I proceed?

Andy, many thanks for your input. I had already done what you suggested but tried it again. Diagnostics could not isolate the problem. The only difference in behaviour was that during the diagnostics process the 'Ethernet' light flashed at about 5 second intervals. Prior to using the diagnostics tool all 3 lights were steady and the Network preferences panel stated that I was connected to the Internet on built-in ethernet. When I open Safari, however, I get the dialogue box that I am not connected to the Internet and offered Network Diagnostics.
This is why I believe that my problem is a faulty Start-up item or extension (does OSX have 'extensions'?) but I do not know how to identify where the fault lies. I have searched my systems using Spotlight in an attempt to find a Network or Internet related file with a recent modification date but this has drawn a blank. Frankly, I think that there are just too many files for this approach to work. I guess that I can try replacing likely sounding files one by one, but I am afraid of making the problem worse by this approach.
Thanks again for your comments, but I remain open to any new approaches to solving my problem.

  • Loose network connection after sleep

Everytime my macbook pro sleeps it looses network connections in my home and I have to go through re-establishing connection including network password

This seems to be a common issue on most Mac platforms lately.  I have 2 Macbook Pro's and 1 Air all experiencing this issue.  It only happens on hidden networks, at least in my case and most I have read.  I have yet to hear any official response from Apple but there must be at least 15 threads on this exact topic thoughout the forums.
Some people claim removing all the "Remembered" networks and re-add them fixes it.  I have noticed the only thing that seems to work is if I remove all networks and if I have a hidden network, it can be the only one listed. As soon as I add another saved network hidden or not, the problem comes back.
This is hard since most of the end users that use the macbooks on our hidden networks also use them at home.  So they naturally have multiple networks listed.  The odd thing is its not ALL of them.  We have a bunch of other Mac's that do not experience this issue.
I know this is not a solution but it is what I have found so far...

  • Every Apple apps using Sandbox is loosing network connectivity after some time.

Its strange, but after a while using application, application stop working. For example Mail.app. Its working fine for 5 minutes, but after that it stopped working. When Mail.app crash, I am not able to use Safari or connect via iTunes to App store.
    I already tried:
    - uninstall non Apple software
    - fixing permissions on startup disk
    - check filesystem of startup disk
    - reinstall Lion
    - update to 10.7.1
Unfortunately nothing from this was working. Before upgrading to 10.7.1 I found out, that Lion was not able to connect to mixed up b+g wifi network. After changing to g only wifi network, it was working fine.

  • 2008 r2 hyper-v guest with static IP always looses network connectivity after every restart - no problem with DHCP

    Hello,
We are running 2008 R2 domain with one physical DC and other running in VM on Hyper-V host (2008 R2 Standard). The host has 4 NICs and is configured to use one physical NIC for itself (management) and the hyper-v guest is configured to use another dedicated/physical
NIC (through microsoft virtual switch) just for itself.
I noticed that after setting the hyper-v guest with a static IP address all works fine only until guest restart. When the guest boots up the IP address is still configured correctly in IPv4 properties, but there is no network connectivity at all and in fact
the guest shows running APIPA config in ipconfig /all output. That situation continues until I remove the virtual NIC from hyper-v guest, remove the virtual switch from dedicated NIC on host and then reconfigure it (using same settings as they were). very
    annoying.
For time being I switched the virtual DC (problematic hyper-v guest) to a DHCP IP and configured DHCP server (running on physical DC machine, not on hyper-v host) to store a reservation for the hyper-v guest so it always gets the same "static"
    IP configuration.
Is there some kind of a problem/bug with using static IP on (2008 R2) hyper-v guests? is there a hotfix for static IP config in hyper-v guest environment?
both 2008 R2 OSes (host and guest) are up to date with all updates (synced with Microsoft, not WSUS).

OK, I'm not at the office now, but took my time to test out the restart scenarios on problematic virtual guest remotely.
No dice, same as it was, everything works fine after guest has IP configured in DHCP mode (IP reservation of 192.168.1.5 for specific MAC address) and it doesn't work after restart in static IP mode (same address, works before restart of guest).
I also took "arp -a" outputs at each step from host server and that was always saying there is only a single host (192.168.1.5 = VDC = problematic virtual guest) assigned to that IP address and always with same MAC, so that pretty much rules out
ARP/MAC troubles and no issues with switches/routers getting spoofed. Problem is most likely with the virtual guest (WS2008R2) or within the host running same OS.
    Here are outputs:

On Monday I will install more test guests in Hyper-V host (WS2008R2), in variety of flavors like 7x64, 8.1x64, ws2012r2, and see if they show similar problems with static IP configuration when utilizing a dedicated NIC from host server.
Don't get me wrong, I can live with virtual DC running on DHCP IP reservation (which is based on MAC), because the virtual DC pretty much requires a physical PDC (hosting also DHCP in my network) to be present for safety reasons ... however I prefer a static
IP configuration on all servers, hence my question and surprise why it doesn't work.

  • For those having issues with networking (wifi) after 10.6.7 installation

    Hi everyone,
I don't want to get your hopes up, but I MAY have found at least a temporary solution to this very annoying problem. It involves deleting a preference file and restarting, so it's worth a shot. I can't promise that it's a permanent fix since I've only just gotten my connection back up and running, but it is a start. This also works for those who are getting the "self-assigned IP" error.
Simply go to your Library/Preferences/ folder and look for the com.apple.alf.plist and delete it by holding shift+apple+backspace. You may want to back up this file prior to deleting this, as this file is associate with your firewall. Any changes you made to your firewall will need to be reapplied, so keep that in mind. After deleting the file, simply restart and make sure your wifi settings are right. This worked for me after one restart, and I've now been running solid for about an hour. Again, I don't know if this will be a long term fix since the connection seems to fail after a few days of use, but at least it's a step in the right direction.
Please let me know if this has been of any help.

    Veggibacon,
I've been having the same connection dropout issue since 10.6.7 but with ethernet rather than wifi. Saw your post a couple of weeks ago and figured I could safely ignore it since my firewall was off and I wasn't connecting with wifi… silly me. Came back to this post (out of desperation, really) and even with the firewall off, deleting the com.apple.alf.plist file and restarting seems to have fixed my problem, for the time being. Considering the success, or total lack thereof, that I've had with every other "fix" that I've tried I'm curios how it is working out for you after a month. Has it really fixed the problem or has the problem resurfaced?

  • RIO looses network connectivity after format disk

    Hello all,
I have two 9014 cRIOs that I performed a format disk on after some trouble shooting activites.  Now I can not connect to either of them.  Each is acting slightly different.  I chose to reset the network adapter to its factory default settings during the disk format.
RIO A - After format disk, the RIO will power up and show up as a unit in MAX.  However, very shortly after coming onlilne, the #3 LED starts blinking orange twice.  After this point I can't communicate with it.  Sometimes, it will remain online on MAX, sometimes it will drop there after.  When it does stay online, it doesn't allow me to run the formate disk again, load software, run the RAD utility, ... nothing.
RIO B - After format disk, the RIO is not found in MAX at all.  #3 LED shows solid orange for about 4-5 minutes straight.  After that, it seems that it attempts a reboot, and again imediately go to solid orange.
I've tried booting into safe mode, and resetting IP address.  Nothing is letting me in at this point.  Also, both were performed while wired into the eithernet port and the formate disk activity completely finished, so I don't see how anything could have been interupted in mid process. Is there anything else I can do at this point?  I appreciate any help.

    Hello AMP12
How are you connecting the cRIO to the computer trough a router or directly to the computer with at crossover cable?
Have you tried to add the cRIO to MAX with the default IP address when it is reset? The IP address should be 0.0.0.0 according to the manual page 9 and 12.
Last but not the least we could check the IP address that the cRIO currently has with the console out port. Here is a link that explains how to do this.
    Regards
    Esteban R.

  • Mac Mini Late 2012 OS X 10.9.4 loosing network connectivity

I haven't found the exact issue on the forums nor outside it so I'm creating a new thread.
My Late 2012 Mini started loosing network connectivity after upgrading to 10.9.4, both WiFi and Ethernet.
Sometimes it takes around 5 minutes, sometimes more than 30 but the connectivity gets disrupted continuously, the packets stop going in or out for around 30 seconds. I've done PRAM and SMC resets, I've changed network locations, nothing helps and I've found nothing interesting in the system logs.
Also I can't login to the Apple bugtracker due to some error so I'm reporting it here.
The only USB devices i have connected are keyboard and mouse.
    Any help will be appreciated.

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of the test is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party software that loads automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, by a font conflict, or by corruption of the file system or of certain system caches.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards, if applicable. Start up in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. You must hold down the shift key twice: once when you turn on the computer, and again when you log in.
Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the startup volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to start up and run than normal, with limited graphics performance, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and Wi-Fi on certain models. The next normal startup may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually login automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem?
After testing, restart as usual (not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of the test.
