Loosing wired network connection

I am running windows 7 64 bit, have an HP Officejet 6500A. I am connected through a D-Link 1008G switch.
Every time I turn off my officejet and/or computer, I loose communications between the 2. I have to go into the officejet's network settings and reset the IP address and then reset it through Windows. I go to start, search and type in IP
Address, it takes me to a page where I enter the new IP for the officejet. After doing this, it connects instantly.
Then, when I turn off my officejet and/or computer, I have to re-program all over again.
What am I doing wrong, why won't it stay connected even after i turn off.
Please help
thank you

Do you have a router?  What kind?  Have you tried bypassing the switch - they can be problematic?

  • MBP takes long time to restore wired network connection after wake-up

    Hello...
My Mid-2010 MBP (MacBookPro6,2) has been experiencing this problem recently -- Whenever I wake up the computer from sleep, it needs approximately 10 seconds to restore its wired network connection. I know there are other annoying connection issues with MBP's WiFi/AirPort out there, but I'm talking about the wired connection here.
Maybe some don't even think this slowness is a problem at all, but this laptop used to be network-ready right after wake-up until 3~4 months ago. That was around the time when I upgraded to SSD and changed some settings via pmset, not sure if that's the culprit. It is now running OS X 10.8.5 and its pmset settings are:

Maybe try this, i am not sure that it will resolve the problem, but it is worth trying anyways.

    Hi All,
I've seen this problem multiple times, especially with Windows 7 64-bit versions and Enterprise edition.  The source of the problem appears to be the Bonjour service that is installed in the background and set to "Automatic" when installing certain 3rd
party applications.  Apple applications like iTunes and Adobe applications like Acrobat Professional and Creative Suites have been known to cause this problem.  I've also seen virtualization software like VMWare and VirtualBox cause similar issues
    with network adapters.
The solution in most of the cases I've come across has been to stop and disable the Bonjour service.  The Bonjour service also masquerades as a service with a name of the format "##Id_String1.6844F930_blahblahblah".  Here's how to disable this service
    in Windows 7:
Right-Click on Computer > Select 'Manage'
Expand the 'Services and Applications' section in the bottom of the Left-Nav dialog and Select 'Services'
Sort the Services list by name and look for either "Bonjour" or the "##Id_String..." name mentioned above
Right-Click on the service and select 'Properties'
Click the 'Stop' button to stop the service
Select 'Disabled' from the 'Startup type' drop down list
    Click 'Apply' and then 'OK'
Reboot your machine and see if the "Multiple Networks" issue is resolved.  If so, you should have internet connectivity again.
    Hope this helps.
    cheers,
    Aaron

  • Utilizing both wired network connections

    Hello,
Is it possible to utilize both wired network connections on a Mac Pro? What I need to do is connect 5 Mac Pro computers to each other via a Cisco switch and use file sharing to connect between them and transfer files. Also, the other network connection needs to be connected to our corporate network - email, internet, connecting to servers not associated with the other network connection. The second network connection is already in place, and I need to now connect the 5 Mac Pros. How do I set this up in OS X? Is it possible? Thanks.

    Hi RoyJames,
What type of device are you trying to connect to the printer?  It is possible to have the printer connected via USB for one device and connected via network for another.
    Hope this helps.

  • Intermittent wired network connection on HP OfficeJet Pro 8600

I've searched the forums and I haven't seen a problem/solution quite like I am experiencing, so I am starting a new thread.
I have a HP OfficeJet Pro 8600 that will only keep an intermittent connection to my router.  Lately, it has been more often not than connected.  I usually have to disconnect and connect the Ethernet cable to the back of the printer several times before it will show a connection, and then, only for a little while before it drops the connection again.  When connected, everything works fine (printing, faxing, scanning).
When the printer is disconnected, the network status has a yield sign with an exclamation point inside.  There are no blinking lights on the back where the network cable connects.  When it connects (by me plugging and unplugging), the lights start flickering.  I've tried several cables including known good ones to rule that possibility out.  Cycling the power has no consistent affect.  The router is otherwise working fine.
Here are other details that might help:
Model:  HP OfficeJet Pro 8600 (N911a)
    Firmware: up-to-date
    Software drivers: up-to-date
    Router: CISCO E3200
    Connection: wired network
Static IP address reserved (not connecting with DHCP)
    MAC filtering off
Main Computer: Windows 7 Service Pack 1
    Wired Connection to the router
Can someone suggest a solution?  My best guess is that the network card in the printer is bad, but I am willing to try an easier solution.  Thanks.

Hi, are there any other peripherals using the RJ45 ports on the router?
Are you using a static IP address for the 8600?

  • Mac-mini looses wired ethernet connection

    Hey out there.
I know this topic has been covered, however i could not find a solution that works for me.
Last week I bought a intel mac-mini and got home and happily connected it to my wireless router (this all went fine)
    I am using a Asus wl500g router.
However, once i updated all the software via the wirless and moved my router closer to my mac-mini.( i am using a 1 meter Cable) it tell's me that my etherent cable is not connected.
So I swapped out my ethernet cable with the one connected to my NAS which is connected to the same router and it is still did not work, Even though it functions fine on my NAS which also had two gigabit ports.
After messing with the setting on my ethernet connection i disabled IP ver 6 and did a renew and all of sudden i had wired ethernet connection.
So i thought that i fixed it. However after the next reboot, the wired connection did not connect again and it continued to tell me that there was not cable attached. I used the same cable connected to the mini to test on my macbook (also intel) and it worked just fine. I also tried swapping the cables from my mac mini and my nas again. My nas device connected with the cable that did not work for the mac and ofcourse my mac told me that i have no cable attached.
I then tried to put my mac to sleep and woke it up again and bam.. i had wired ethernet!
Great, however after another reboot, i have not been able to get connection again or since. this has been for a few days now.
SO what i know is this:
The cables are the right length.
    The cabels work!
it should have nothing to do with the fact that my router is 100baseT cause my nas connects to it just fine which as i said also has two gigibit ports.
THe issue is on the mac side that is forsure!
I took my mac back to the store where i bought it and they tested it and they said that is fine, they must be connecting to some airport.
So, could some please tell me what i need to do to get a constant connection between my mac-mini and my router please.
there must be a way of getting it work as it works on and off at random times.
I have been a happy mac user for a few years, so this kind of issue is really puzzling, why does it not just work like most other things MAC?
Buying a airpot extreme is not an option in my books, as the rest of the my mac network functions just fine on my current router.
    Looking forward to some inlightenment.
    thanks
    Dino

    Hallo dinodam,
I am having exactly the same problems you are. Everything worked fine for a few months and now I copy you problem identically. Again, the shop in Frankfurt says everything works fine. All my other PCs and cables work.
I have been quietly going around the bend. Every now and again I have a connection for a short while and then it is gone. "Kabel nicht verbunden".
This tends to suggest that the problem lies either in the OS or the hardware, nothing external. Surely someone at Apple must be aware that there is an issue? The time I have wasted on this issue more than covers the cost of buying a new pc. Unless someone has any bright ideas, that is what I shall end up doing and send Apple the macmini back.
I should be grateful for any suggestions how to resolve this.
    Thanks,
    dilystagi

  • New iMac -- Do I need to create a wired network connection?

I'm new to Macs so please bear with me. My new iMac is arriving in a few days, and I'm reading through the manual just to get a leg up for when it gets here. Page 11 of the user's guide explains how to set up an Ethernet connection, but the manual does not say anything about setting up a wireless network connection during initial setup. Will I be able to do that or will I need to create an Ethernet connection first, then set up the wireless?

The setup for wireless is the same. Open Network prefs, select the Airport port, click on Configure button. Check the box to show status in the menubar, then click on Advanced button and click on the TCP/IP tab. All you need to do is set the Configure IPv4 option for the Airport port to DHCP and then click on the Apply button.

  • The hard-wired network connection on my HP 8600 no longer seems to work

    1.  I have a HP 8600 CM750A.
    2. The OS is Windows 7 Ultimate SP1 64-bit
    3. My printer was on the network and was working fine until about a week ago.  The only error is 'printer cannot be found' when I try to print.  This is because it is no longer on the network. Whenthe network cable is plugged into theprinter and the router, the port does not light up.  If I plug my computer into that port, the port lights up.  Each of  the 4 ports works fine when my computer is plugged into it.
I tried to two different network cables.  Neither cable lights up the router when plugged into the printer but when plugged into my computer, the router lights up just fine.  I am afraid that the network port on the printer has gone bad.

The green light not activating with an Ethernet cable does indicate the port is not functioning.
Do you have a wireless network?  If so, the printer may have connected to the network somehow.  HP printers only support one network connection at a time and the Ethernet port will be deactivated if there is a wifi connection.
Make sure the printer does not have a wifi connection.  This can be done by going to Setup>Network>View Network Summary>View Wireless.  If it has an active wifi connection, it will list the IP address and network SSID.  If it does, you will need to restore network defaults in the Network menu of the printer and turning the printer off for 30 seconds and then turning it back on.

  • Macbook Pro/linksys wrt54g slow wireless/wired network connection solution.

I was pulling my hair out looking for a solution for this and it did not seem anyone had too much luck here. Hopefully this will help you all...
    Setup:
    - Macbook Pro, Mac mini, 2 windows boxes (not mine), 1 linux box
    - Linksys WRT54G v6 with dd-wrt installed. This solution should work with the standard WRT54G firmware.
    Symtoms:
    - All other computers performed fast on internet speed tests and on network transfers.
    - Macbook Pro Internet connection was slow (40KB/s on both the wired and wireless network using wpa)
    - Macbook Pro internal connection was slow (2MB/s on both the wired and wireless network using wpa)
Things I tried to resolve this:
    - Disable IP v6 (no effect)
    - Set DNS Servers field to the dns servers as reported by the router. (Increased the initial speed but this quickly decreased making it useless... not to mention impractical)
    Thing that resolved my issue.
    - Disabled STP (Spanning Tree Protocol) on the router. In the DD-WRT it is towards the top of the Setup tab. I'm not sure where it is on the default firmware sorry.
    Hope this helps someone

    Darin,
You're right - there are a lot of issues about MBP WiFi. I think there's a major problem with it.
If there was a ..."major problem with it" you would see more complaints than wifi just being among the top 10 discussion items in a trouble shooting forum. There are millions of MBP users many of whom, like myself, use wifi every day without issue.
Your statement "They exchanged it for a new machine. Worked fine in the store - but when I got it home, I was still getting very slow speeds." would lead one to suspect maybe interference from some source or a configuration issue rather than a "major problem".
You probably already tried changing the channel, resetting your router, changing the security scheme, elimination possible sources of interference, separating your components (router, computer, external monitor, ...), etc. but maybe starting over with a default configuration will help isolate the problem.

  • HP 19-2114 computer losing wired network connection

I have two brand-new 19-2114 computers running Windows 8.1 64-bit. Both behave the same way.
When I boot, I will usually be able to connect to my network (via ethernet cable) for 15 to 30 minutes, then the connection will be dropped. Rebooting usually restores the connection, but again it will be dropped before long.
I use ping at the command prompt for the simplest test of whether I have an internet connection. If ping doesn't work, neither does Internet Explorer.
Other models of computer, when connected to this same network via the same wires, have no problem.
I've not loaded any software or data. I've tried system recovery to bring the machines back to original factory settings, but that doesn't help. I tried reloading some network drivers as suggested on the HP site, but that made no difference.

  • Intermittent wired network connection on OS 10.3.9. Help!

    Hi,
I'm having some issues on our home network with a G4 / 933 tower that is connected to our wireless router via an ethernet cable. We also have a Powerbook G4 15" (running 10.4.1) connected via Wi Fi, as well as a new brand new iMac connected via Wi Fi. The router is a D-Link DIR 825 Dual Band that we inherited recently as a hand-me-down.
The router is setup using DHCP. The two computers connected via Wi Fi have virtually no problems. However, ironically, the G4 tower, that is connected via an ethernet cable, is constantly losing it's internet connection. It's very weird (For what it's worth, up until January, this same computer was connected directly to a DSL modem at a different location via ethernet, and had no connectivity problems, ever...) When you bring up a browser - Firefox, Camino, Safari - it will work for a minute or two, then suddently if you try to go to another page it will say "Waiting for..." And you wait, and wait. If you try to go to another location it will say "Looking up...", as if it's completely lost it's DNS capability, which it seems it has. However, if you wait a few minutes it comes back. But with annoying regularity it will die again, then you have to wait 1 - 5 minutes for it to come back. Going to Network and clicking "Renew DHCL Lease" doesn't seem to bring it back any faster than just waiting. I've also tried different ports on the router. Whenever it loses it's connection, if I go to the Network settings area, it will display a green light and say "Connected to the internet via Ethernet". So the physical connection still seems to be there.
It's very frustrating. Is it an IP conflict issue? Shouldn't DHCP handle all that? Maybe a problem with Computer Names? Any troubleshooting tips would be appreciated! Thanks

    Hi,
Thanks for the response. Yes, I did install a brand new ethernet cable. I also tried shutting down our other two wired computers so the wired G4 was the only computer on the network. Still no luck. I also tried reserving an IP within the DHCP range just for the wired G4, and setting the Network Preferences to Static IP w/ DHCP. Still no luck. I'm starting to think it's just a piece of crap router and I should just try a new one. It doesn't really make any sense, because it's not rocket science. And the wireless computers work perfectly...
Does anyone have any other things to try? Or barring that, any suggestions for a solid, reliable wireless router? Thanks - Steve

  • Iphone 6 looses cell network connection LTE on ATT

I am running into 4G connection issues in a number of ways
    1) going from Wifi to 4G - the phone is not connecting to the ATT 4G network
    2) When on ATT 4G, the connection is lost and can not be reconnected.
I have to turn off and on the phone to reconnect with ATT 4G.
I have reviewed settings and I am at a loss.

Hope it's an anomaly, but I'm on T-Mobile, and on my drive home the past two days, I've dropped my call at two different places.  Yesterday was in a spot I occasionally drop, but today was in a totally new spot.  Rarely dropped with my Lumia 1020.  I've also had two different calls that I swiped to answer, and it instead cut the call off.  This is with the iPhone 6.  Also my iPad Air upgraded to iOS 8 is having issues with sluggish internet now.  I think this may be a buggy release.

  • Installing wireless printer on a computer w/ wired network connection

I'm new to arch and have not found my exact problem in the wiki.  I have the system installed and am trying to setup my wireless printer.  My computer is connected to a broadband router by cable.  I have a wireless router which is also connected to the broadband router so that my wife can have internet access on her laptop downstairs and so that I can print to my wireless printer across the room.  The wireless router has WEP security and an SSID of "Moak Home" - I can't figure out how to pass cups the SSID, the WEP password, and the ip address of the printer.  The printer is an HP Officejet and was detected by Ubuntu on another system and worked so I know the printer is linux compatible.  I have installed hplip along with cups, ghostscript, and gutenprint and have tried setting up the printer via the cups web portal and also by using the gnome printer configuration tool.  any help would be greatly appreciated.  However, I will be watching the Saints/Falcons game shortly and may not get back here until tomorrow:).  I lived in New Orleans for 30 years and cannot help myself.

Nevertheless, just an ip address doesn't work.  Perhaps I don't actually have a network set up.  On my Ubuntu computer I can install the printer by providing the ip, the SSID and the wep password to the wireless router.  My wife can connect her Windows laptop to the internet by providing the SSID and the wep password to the wireless router.  However, her machine and mine are not networked together.  Do I need to setup a network consisting of my computer and the printer?  I may just not adequately understand the process.
