Loquendo Speech Agents

Hi, I'm creating my first captivate 5 projects for use with a Robohelp 9 Help File using Loquendo English Speech Agent - Simon. I have experimented with pronunciation by typing text in different formats in the slide notes, this seems a lot of work and duplication. I seem to have read somewhere (probably incorrectly) that if I update the User dictionary for Kate this will be used be all the speech agents? If so this doesn't seem to work - is there a way to update the dictionary for Loquendo Speech Agents? Huge thanks to anyone who can help.

Loquendo TTS agents

The Loquendo speech agents Aussie Grace and Aussie Alan used to be available with Captivate 5 but are no longer available in Captivate 6.
Can someone tell me where I can locate them, or buy and install them?
I need a TTS agent with an Australian accent.

I don't use the TTS functionality myself (not realistic enough) but I've heard others complain about the removal of TTS voices.

Seriously, this Loquendo aka Nuance (or whatever) are two (or one) of the most difficult companies to figure out how to buy their stand-alone voices. It is ridiculous actually. The best thing to do is contact them directly and ask them (be certain to specify that you are looking for just those voices).

Third-party TTS voice appears in Speech Agent list, but Sam ends up reading

I'm trying to use a trial version of Ivona voices to generate text-to-speech in CP5, to test the capability. The Ivona speech agents show up in the Captivate voices list, but when you generate the text-to-speech, Microsoft Sam ends up being the voice. Is there an extra step I'm missing? I was able to get this to work with the trial version of Cepstral voices, but I'm having a problem with both Ivona and Loquendo voices. Has anyone gotten this to work, and if so, what are the missing steps?
I should mention that the Loquendo and Neospeech voices that are included with Captivate work just fine. Also, this is a purchased version of Captivate 5.

I have just tried the trail version of IVONA voices with Adobe Captivate 6 (on Windows 7) and I have the issue as reported by joebor1776.
Adobe Captivate sees the installed IVONA voices and it allows me to assign a different voice to each sentence. Unfortunately the audio generation fails to use the assigned voices, it uses the voice that is set as the Windows default voice (Windows 7 » Control Panel » Speech Recognition » Test To speech). This means you can't create a dialog between two or more persons.
Does anybody have a solution for that?

I have sent an email to Ivona to see if they have a solution, but did not receive a reply yet. In the meantime I did some more research and found that http://www.cereproc.com voices are compatible with Captivate 6.

Wrong speech agent selected

Hi all,
I feel sort of stupid posting this, but here goes. In
converting text to speech, I accidentally selected the "don't show
this again" box in the speech agent selection dialog box. Only
problem is, it was pointed to Kate, and I prefer Paul.
Now the only way I see to change it is to go to Audio >
Speech Management and change it slide by slide.
Is there a way to change my 'default' speech agent to Paul,
since it now doesn't show me the selection dialog box when I
convert text to speech?

Perhaps try looking in this location:
Click Edit > Preferences... > Global node > General
Settings node and click the Confirmation messages... button.
See if the check box in the lower left corner labeled "Speech
selection" has been cleared. If so, click it and dismiss the
dialogs.
Hopefully that will bring back the choice.

Speech Agent - Static behind voices after applying update today

I'm using Captivate version 4.0.1 bld 1658. Last week I used Paul for my speech agent and he had a mild robotic tin-canny sound behind his voice, which is fine. Today I applied an update (help --> updates) to address not being able to hear the audio when previewing only one slide. After updating, both Paul and Kate now have static in their voices. I listened to audio I created last week, I still hear tin can background. I import the same audio into a new project created today, static. Recompile audio in previous project, static behind the voice. When listening to the video with headphones, the static is very disturbing.
What can I do to fix the speech agent voices? Can the encoding settings be modified for text to speech?

Silly question. Did you try converting Text to Speech after you updated so that the speech was re-created?

How to install speech Agents with Captivate 7?

Hi,
I am using Captivate 7 (32bit version for Windows), which only provides a single default speech agent. A link on the Speech Management screen enables you to download and install Neospeech voices.
I downloaded the file Cp7_win32_voices_installer.zip, extracted the files and then ran the set-up application. However, no additional speech agents are available in the Speech Management screen. What is the problem? I have tried rebooting my machine, but that has not helped. Any suggestions?

You might want to perform a double-check here. I'm not sure about this version, but in earlier versions, once you "downloaded and installed", all you really did was to extract the installer application to a folder. There was another step. Locating that folder and performing the actual installation.
So look at the folder and see if there isn't something like a "setup.exe" or similar that you need to run!

Problem when typing into Speech Agent...

THis seems to happen A LOT!!! I will click into a field to type my speech and after I'm done typing, I look up, and at some point it stopped typing! I am using a Wacom Bamboo Create and I thought maybe I was touching it by accident and clicking out of the type area, but I have now turned off the touch capabilities and it still does it. I have a LOT of text to input and this is very frustrating! I don't have this happen in any other applications. I can type in Word, Outlook, Chrome and Notepad++ with no problems at all, it only happens in Captivate. Not to mention sometimes when I click "+" to add another text area, it will just put it wherever it sees fit. I can be on slide 14, click "+", and my new text line appears in slide 6! HOORAY!!!! Captivate seems to be quarky as hell! Any ideas?

I know you said you have a touch pad (Wacom Bamboo Create) but are you also on a laptop? If so, perhaps it's possible that as you type sometimes you touch the touch pad between you and the keyboard? I used to have that happen to me all the time until I configured the laptop to disable the touch pad when a mouse was connected.
If that's not the case, I *CAN* think of a workaround. Compose your text in Notepad. Then copy from there and just pasted into Captivate.

Speech agents no loading in Captivate 5

Loaded CP5 on a Window 7 machine. It shows folders for both Kate and Paul in the VT folder but when you are in CP5 it only shows Microsoft Annie as being available.
What do we need to do?

Hello Susan,
If don't have any customized setting for your projects and objects in Captivate 5, we can try recreating Preferences for Adobe Captivate 5 by these steps :
1) Close Captivate 5
2) Rename "Captivate 5" folder in C:\Users\[user name]\AppData\Local\Adobe\

Captivate 6, Text-To-Speech: No German voice?!?

My company just bought the upgrade from Captivate 5.5 to Captivate 6. After installing Captivate 6 as well as the additional speech package there is no German voice ("Stefan") available anymore in the "Speech Agent" droplist ("Speech Management" dialog)!?
This function is crucial for us since all our software demos are published in German and English.
Is there another speech package I have to install or what can I do?

Ok, I did some more research for Germen voices too and in the end I found that only http://www.cereproc.com could provide voices that work with Adobe Captrivate 6.
http://www.ivona.com: I installed the demo and Captivate 6 does see the voices and allows you to assign them to the TTS sentences. However, when it comes to generating the audio, Captivate picks up the voice that is selected in the control panel » speech section. That's fine if you need a single voice in your project, but if you want a dialog between two or more persons then you have a problem. I have sent an email to query their support for a solution but did not receive a reply.
http://www.neospeech.com: I have seen topics here in the forum where people say it works. Unfortunately they have very few voices and German is not one of them.
http://www.loquendo.com: I believe this is the provider of the English voices that come with Captivate 6. I searched their website for a demo or a store to purchase more voices and I couldn't find it. I only found a few pages that say they are now part of Nuance with a broken link to their TTS solutions.
http://www.nuance.com: like Loquendo, I can't find any page with a TTS demo or a store to purchase more voices. I have sent them an email weeks ago and never received a reply.
http://www.acapela-group.com: you can't buy from them directly, their website sends you to third party resellers. I visited the website of 2 resellers in my country (Netherlands) but again, I couldn't find a page with a demo or store to purchase.
So, the only provider left for me is http://www.cereproc.com. On their website you can quicly find, purchase and download a voice. All you need to do then is install the voice, enter the license and (re-)start Captivate.

Installing Loquendo Veena Voice for Adobe Captivate

Hi all,
We are intending to purchase Loquendo Veena voice (Indian English). We are using Adobe Captivate 5.5.
After installing this Veena voice will it get automatically listed in the Audio --> Speech Management --> Speech Agent list?
Further, I did check the Loquendo site regarding Veena voice and there is no specific option to BUY or PURCHASE. How to do the purchase of this voice? Any idea?

VTML-Tags for text-to-speech do not work in Captivate 6 - are they working in Cap. 7 again?

I had a hart time to find out, that the functionality was "forgotten" to be programmed in the version 6.
Together with Neospeech I worked long to make single voices work in full functionality and it cost additional licence fee... unfortunately the voices sound tinny so I cannot really use them...and due to different time zones it is hard to find the error together with Neospeech
Now I see that Captivate 7 is available.
Is there already qualified info if the vtml tags work again like they did in older versions?
Adobe Support hotline was NO HELP at all, very unfriendly... only idea was, that I should get the test version and find out myself, pretty impertinent.

You might already know this, but stating it here to rule out the simple failure cases.
I have had a similar problem in the past using VTML tags inside Captivate. I used to type the slidenotes in my favorite editor and then copy paste the text from there to the slidenotes panel of Captivate. Turns out that my editor was using Unicode and hence the entire text pasted into Captivate slidenotes became unicode text, including the VTML markers. Though the pasted text "looked" fine the markers were messed up (for example, the double quotes around the value attributes looked like double quotes but they were actually multibyte unicode sequences) and this confused Neospeech. The output audio would be funny (for example it would read "Less Than...V...T...M...L...") or NeoSpeech will crash taking down Captivate along with it.
The fix was quite simple. I started typing the slide notes from within Captivate slide notes panel and everything worked fine after that. Alternately I could type in my favorite editor (after making sure that it is operating in Plain text mode) and then copy paste work flow also worked fine.
Another common mistake (at least, I do that often) is to select the speech agent from the drop down at the top of the dialog and forgetting to choose the speech agents for individual slide notes, which may still be referring to a non-neo-speech agent which does not understand the VTML tags.
No other software tool was required like the German Adobe Support team may have mentioned. I am using Captivate 7.

Text-to-speech audio not previewing

Adobe Captiavte 6.
I have installed the speech agents and added test slide notes to a few slides. I have converted these to TTS. I can preview a single slide and hear the correct audio. But when I preview a run of several slides, there is no sound. I have tried turning off the "Pause til user Clicks" on the click boxes, and moving the start of the audio to 0.1 secs. But neither helps.
Please can anyone help? Thanks in advance.

Well, when published (ticking both swf and html5), I could hear the sound if I strated from the index.html file, but not if I linked to the multiscreen.html file. However, I repeated the test using another Captivate project, and every aspect worked fine, whether in preview, or published. Both are files originally created in Captivate 5.5 and then converted to v6.0, so maybe there is a litle conversion glitch somewhere. I have also added test to speech on a new project of a few slides created directly in Captivate 6. So, maybe it's not worth worrying about.

CP 5 text to speech--purchased voices integrated directly?

I am hoping someone from Adobe will answer this question definitively for me (or someone who has figured this out and tested it). Let's say I have to add text-to-speech to a software demo and provide the demo in, say, five different languages. I have English, French, and German available to me in CP5. But I also need Spanish and Japanese. So I purchase the Spanish and Japanese voices from another TTS vendor (pick a vendor, it shouldn't matter, right?). QUESTION: will the purchased Spanish and Japanese voices be available directly in Captivate just like the voices that came with Captivate?

Using third-party voices for speech text
You can purchase voices from third-party vendors and use them seamlessly in Adobe Captivate.
Note: Ensure that these voice comply with your operating system’s speech APIs.
Install the voices on your computers using the installers provided by the vendors. The new installed voices get listed in the Speech Agent list of the Audio > Speech Management dialog box.
I read that as YES.
