Lose airport settings after restart

After restarting powerbook, airport settings are changed and can no longer use bonjour printer or see airport express. As instructed by Apple, if I throw out system configuration folder and restart computer, it works fine again until it is shut down, then same problem. There must be a better answer!

I'd love an answer to this, I've had this problem for a while now

  • Airport Utility was unable to find your Airport device after restarting.

    - I just updated the firmware on my base station (it a white dome?? i think snow?) to 5.7
    - I am running AirPort Utility 5.5.2 (also recently updated)
    - I have (3) AirPort Expresses (just updated firmware yesterday) and now are not being seen in the airport utility. They had been running for about two years just fine.
I have done a hard reset and was then able to see the Airport Express and go through set up. Upon finalizing the set up I get this message:
"Airport Utility was unable to find your Airport device after restarting."
This is happening with all 3 AirPort Expresses

    Hello !
I had the same kind of problems when I upgraded to the latest version of Airport (5,7).
The Airport express seemed to have been disconnected, and nothing I could do to reconfigure it, after hard resetting it, seemed to be working.
I did two or three hard resets before remembering having been in a situation like that a while ago.
I went back to the Mini, **deactivated the firewall (in the "preferences" panel), then deactivated also the firewall of the Modem/router provided for my internet connection. Then I went in the other room and did another hard reset of the Airport express, came back in the mini's room, opened the Airport utility, the icon of the Airport express was already visible (which wasn't the case before... ), did the re-configuring.
The reconfigured Airport express reappeared very quickly, then I reactivated the firewalls of the Mini and the router. Voilà !
It took less than two minutes !
And since then the Mini have been streaming music without a glitch to the Airport express.
I hope this will help you and others !

  • Macbook Pro loses Airport Extreme after the Screen switches off.

I am experiencing problems where my MBP is losing the network connection with my Airport Extreme after the screen switches off (the MBP is not does not sleep).
I could be watching a video streaming from my MBP to my ATV, and all of a sudden it stops, and the ATV loses its connection with my MBP. On looking at the MBP it is still connected to the internet, but it can't physically see my Airport Extreme. I've opened the Airport Utilities program and it cannot find the Airport Extreme, even though I am still connected to it.
The only way I can fix it is to turn off the Airport on my MBP and then turn it back on and everything comes right.
This has only just started happening in the last week or so, and I have never had a problem before.
I've had a look through the forums, and on Google, but others seem to be losing their internet, etc. I am still able to access the internet, just not anything connected the Airport Extreme (e.g. USB harddrive).

What are you doing to change it to a static channel? I've been having this same problem and have tried going to Network Settings>>Advanced>>TCP/IP>>Configure IPv4, changed setting to "Using DCHP with manual address", and changed the IP address to an available ip. I've done this a lot of times before I had the monitor problem to solve the IP conflict problems I get sometimes on my network, but this didn't fix the external monitor issue. Is there something else I should be doing? Thanks

  • Z30 Loses Wifi Settings on Restart

A few days ago my Verizon Z30 started losing Wifi settings after a restart. After a restart Wifi is off, and all saved connections are gone. This happens consistently after each restart or power off/power on.

Do a backup, then Reload Software with Link and restore, or you can update the OS to 10.3.1.2582 via an autoloader.

  • Lose airport connection after using boot camp and windows XP

After using windows XP on boot camp and shutting down windows and booting to Mac OS 10.5.7 I lose the airport connection and have to restart or reset my airport extreme base station. My imac 2.8 is connected to airport via ethernet. Air port is operating on 5.7 version. This is a recent development and suspect it is related to updates in windows. I do not know where to start but need to solve this problem as it interrupts the other computers on wireless. Thanks Carl

I have solved problem. It was in the windows settings using airport rather than ethernet connection. Carl

  • Confirm airport settings after system update

Hi, I have updated my OS X system. Now I am asked each time I boot my iBook if I want to change the old settings for airport or if I'd like to define new ones. I click on "don't change" (that's the translation of the German phrase "nicht ändern") and it is ok. Then I have to choose "WLAN" after having clicked in the airport symbol at the top of the screen to start the WLAN connection.
What do I need to do to that my choice of a) not changing the old entries and b) having WLAN active automatically after booting (as it was the case prior to updating)?
    Thanks,
    jost

Do I need to freshly make the entries (repeat typing the WEP key f.i.) or do I just need to click on "define new ones". If I have to enter the data freshly I have to wait a couple of days until our admin is back who has the WEP code. I don't want to hang until his return for a system requiring entries which I don't know.
    Thanx,
    Jost

  • MacOSX forgetting Magic Mouse settings after restart

    Hello together,
since today my MacOS X (MacBook Pro, 10.6.6, early 2011) seems to forget my Magic Mouse movement settings every time I restart OSX and after waking up from sleep mode. The settings are always put to minimum automatically.
Every time I have to fix it in the System settings.
I have already repaired the HDD access rights and set the Magic Mouse to Favorite. Without effect to the problem.
Does anybody have an idea what could be the reason for this problem and how to solve it?
    Thanks and Regards
    Manuel

    Manuel,
Try going into System Prefs->Accounts. Unlock it. Look in "Login Items" and delete MagicPrefs application. Restart your computer. It worked for me...

  • MacBook forgetting settings after restart

Hi. I have a very annoying problem with my MacBook Pro 2012 model. Since I updated the MacBook to OSX Mavericks, It has been acting wierd. Every time I restart it, the trackpad and the dock settings resets theirselves. So for example if I add a program or move around some icons in the dock, it resets when I restart the computer. Same with the magic trackpad. Every time I restart the computer, all settings resets. I'm pretty sure it has something to do with me not having the proper file permissions. I have reinstalled OSX and I have tried the disk repairing tool but neither of it worked. Anyone have any ideas? I'm willing to try anything. This is so annoying!

It seems nobody in the world got this problem...

  • IBook loses Airport settings for 2Wire Gateway whenever put to sleep

My old 2Wire DSL modem/gateway stopped doing wireless, so I had to replace it with a new one through SBC/AT&T. It's a 2700HG-B. Connecting to it with my G4 PowerBook (running OS X 10.4.7) works just as with the old one.
However, with my G3 iBook, every time it is reawakened from sleep, the Airport Utility no longer connects to the DSL wirelessly — even after I re-select my 2Wire.
I have to re-run the Airport Assistant and re-configure it, including entering the WEP Key before I can use the WiFi. This is true everytime the iBook has been put to sleep. Previously, the iBook automatically reconnected whenever it was reawakened.
The iBook has no similar problem connecting to other WiFi bases — but that's no help at home, where it's used most.
I will appreciate any help anyone can provide.

    Hi there,
Unfortunately, I don't have an answer for you but was hopeful you could help me. I just got the new iMac 20" and a new 2wire 2700hg-b... I managed to get airport to connect by entering the ssid and network key... network icon (upper right corner) shows full signal yet whenever I try opening a web page I get the message "you're not connected to the internet" I tried resetting the network with $ sign before the network key (read about this tip online)... same problem...
Please tell me how you managed to to use it... no WEP?

  • Why wont my ibook save my settings after restart?

i have a snow ibook g3 power pc 500mhz, 256mb of ram, 15gb hdd, os x tiger. this is my first mac, i plan on using it as training wheels before i go out and get a macbook air. i have tis problem where i make changes to the dock, short name, time and date, and my wallpaper. every time i restart all of my changes get reseted to what they were before. the only thing that doesnt change is my account name, and when i try to change my short name in finder next to that house thing, it tells me "this name is already in use" though there is no other account. this is really frustrating because i plan on using this wonderful machine when i go back to school, but i want it to be perfect; or very close to. im some what computer savvy, but not when it comes to os x. im using a windows 7 hp and i want to make the switch but i need help.

Hi, and welcome to Apple Support Communities.
Changing your short user name via the Finder is a no-no and can cause numerous problems. Use this utility instead:

  • Tiger reverts to orginal dock and settings after restart

Every once in awhile Tiger reverts the dock and all my icons back to the original sizes and items. It also makes the icons the default size and bugs the crap out of me. What the heck is going on?

The dock reverts when I have to force restart it (by holding the
power button for 5 seconds.) So...
A hard computer shut down or restart is not good for a hard drive under any platform and having to do so with OS X should be rare. I can't remember the last time I was forced to perform a hard shut down or restart with my PB.
As a first step, I suggest Resolving Disk, Permission, and Cache Corruption for system troubleshooting procedures and when doing so, follow all steps/instructions in the order provided.

  • After updating to 10.4.8 my airport settings aren't set automatically after

    restart.
Before whenever my computer came on my airport settings would come on automatically. Now at least on my main HD, I have to set my airport settings manually each time my computer turns on.
It's weird because I have an external HD and I installed 10.4.8 on it too. My external HD STILL detects my airport settings automatically whenever I select my external HD as the startup disk. As far as I know I did the exact same thing to both HDs when I installed 10.4.8 to them.
    Please help.

    I fixed my own problem.
It seems that my airport file got corrupt in the /Library/Prefences/SystemConfig. I just deleted the file and I restarted my iMac twice. On the second restart it automatically detected my airport settings once again.
I did several restarts after that to make sure it's fixed. Yep, it's fixed!

  • Airport Express (AX) not found after restart....driving me mad, please help...!

    Hello,
I tried to search for this issue but never found the solution. In the meantime, it drives me mad......so please do respond if you know the answer.
Here is the problem. I have a WDS setup for our home, time capsule as base and several airport extremes (AX) for the wifi net through the house. In addition there is one AX for iTunes and I have one setup for the printer. Untill last week everything worked just fine. However, after installing a new printer, the printer AX blinked amber. I performed a reset and went through the setup, my AirPort Utility found it right away. I followed the steps for setting it up to join my current wireless network (usb printer). However, after the message: "The settings for this AirPort Express have been successfully updated. You can close this window or wait for this AirPort Express to restart" , the AX restarted, I finally got a message telling me there was an error joining my network. So I closed the ultility, resetted the AX and went through the process again. Unfortunately, the same result. Tried to connect the old printer, same result. Tried another AX, same result. Tried connecting it with a LAN cable, same result. It all goes fine untill right after the restart phase. NExt the AX is not recognized.
As nothing has been changed in the meantime, I have no clue at all what might be the problem. Anyone ????
Looking forward to the answer, untill now, I have not been able to find a solution.
    Kind regards,
    Mark
