Lose audio during conference

During a 3 way conference on ichat, the audio from the last person invited stops after a while. Connection Dr says audio is fine. Happened from 3 different connection attempts with different people doing the inviting. Has anaybody else seen this problem?

Hi,
iChat 4 is governed by the System Preferences > Quicktime > Streaming Settings as well as the Bandwidth settings in iChat itself.
These Quicktime Streaming settings should be set to 1.5Mbps.
If she has to Change then iChat should be Quit and restarted as the App "reads" the Speed it can see and writes this to the com.apple.ichat.plist as it starts up.  (if the Speed is not Fast Enough at this point the Connection Doctor > Capabilities tab tends to say some functions are restricted).
iChat checks again during the connection Process for Video Chats.
Upload speed is the real key to this.
The Quicktime setting at Automatic in Leopard (iChat 4) will restrict the Internet speed to 384kbps  In Tiger/iChat 3 it used to restrict it to 0kbps).
A mixture of Internet Speed and Processor speed decides Frame Rate.
My First edition MacBook Pro (2007) with a plain Core Duo Processor manages 20fps
My G4/1Ghz Dual Processor manages 15fps
These are over an 8Mbps Download and 780kbps Upload service
System Preferences > Sound > Input will show you your Audio in the Blue Response bar.
In the iChat Preferences > Video Section this becomes the green bar under the Pic.
In the Connection Doctor during a Chat the Green Bars there are the incoming Video and Audio Stream.
If a Mic or Audio Input device has been Set up for iChat before a Video Chat has been Started you can swap between the two.
There can be issues for Headsets, particularly Blue Tooth ones if you try to Set them up during a chat.
They have to "Set" in System Preferences > Sound  "First" and then set as the choice in iChat "Second"

I would gues that just one end is slowing during a chat.  This used to be an issue with Comcast in particular.
iChat is a Peer-to-Peer Connection when doing Video Or audio Only chats.
That makes it look like Peer-to-Peer File Sharing and some ISPs try to combat this by reducing the Internet speed in an attempt to make it impractical.
Dropping to 500kbps usually drop the connection "Under the Radar" as it were.
It also tends to smooth out where the Internet Speed varies too much.
A 5% variance of a 10Mbps service is the 500kbps that iChat usually needs.
This tends to mean that iChat's Buffering cannot keep up, as it drops Video Frames to try and keep things smooth.
Example pic with two of the test accounts
Notice the slight drop in the Third (appleu3test03) Audio and Video stream.  (I missed catching it going occasionally lower)
I am on a new i5 iMac and you can see the Pic size has dropped off for may end and the incoming pics are will below the 640 X 480 max.  (the Lighting is Bad at my end hence the lower Frame Rate and Bit rate)
It may take some adjustments all round to get this a an optimum.

  • BOTH My DVDs Lose Audio During Movie...Menu Works...What Am I Doing Wrong?

I have two movies. Both of which lose their audio while in the middle of the movie. The menu audio works well as well as the first 20 minutes of the movie...
    What am I doing wrong?

I think that anybody who tries to give you a definitive answer without having more data would just be guessing. For example, I cannot determine from your post whether you have one long musical piece in your audio track or two or more songs. If more than one song, does one of them consistently not play at the same exact point, but the others do play? Have you tried isolating all or part of the audio track in an experimental DVD to see what plays and what doesn't? And whether there are any differences in the properties of the songs that play and don't play? Have you had this problem with any other projects? You can't solve your problem until you know what you are dealing with.
So, if you have a song that plays, and one that doesn't play, put the two songs together in an experimental DVD and see what happens. If they both play, then the problem is likely related to your initial DVD project, suggesting that you should recreate the project. If the same song still does not play, then the issue likely is related to that specific song in some way. Check the properties of the two songs to find out how they are different, including the source from where you got them. Try to resolve any differences. In the event that you can't resolve the differences, or there are no perceivable differences, then dump the song that doesn't play and put in another one, preferably that has the same properties as the song that does play. If it doesn't work, you are no worse off and you have some data to suggest that the problem may not be related to the specific song and can direct your energies in that direction.

  • Unable to monitor audio during capture

I'm using FCP6 to capture footage shot with a JVC GY-HD100U at HDV 720p24. I'm using a JVC BR-HD50 deck to capture from, connected to my MacPro 3 GHz quad via firewire.
In the Audio/Video Setting dialog box, the Sequence Preset is "HDV 720P24". My Capture Preset is "HDV", Device Control Preset "HDV FireWire". Video Playback shows "[Missing] Apple Firewire NTSC (720 x 480)" and offers only the options of None and Digital Cinema Desktop Preview–Main as alternate choices. Both HDV options are greyed out. The Audio Playback option is set to Default.
With this setup, controlling the deck remotely from the capture window, I get video but no audio. The only audio I get is when the deck is connected to my video monitor and I use it to monitor the output of the deck. The audio is there when I play back the clips after capture but I cannot monitor the sound with the computer's speakers. If I go to the A/V Devices tab, under Video, it shows the same "[Missing] Apple Firewire NTSC (720 x 480) with the same choices described above, and the Options button next to it doesn't do anything.
Can anyone think of anything I've missed in the initial setup?

    Keith,
For whatever reason (perhaps the intense processor needs) HDV does not allow you to monitor your audio during capture. The computer just will not do it. What I have done, if I really want to hear what's happening durning capture, is plug my speakers into the headphone jack of my XL H1. Due to the processing that's going on, the audio "lags" behind the video by a couple of seconds.
I'm pretty sure this is not a setup problem, but just a limitation due to the nature of your format.
    Hope that helps!

  • No Audio during Log and Capture

Hello, I have FCP 6.0 and am unable to hear my audio during log and capture. I have this problem on all 5 G5 Macs that I have, and have tried different editing docks and cables. I have used FCP for more than 5 years and have never had this problem. iMovie has audio during capture, so I am convinced that there is a pre-set in FCP that I don't have checked properly, but I've been over them many times and still have no answer. I searched past forums and didn't really find anything helpful to me.
My pre-sets are set to DV NTSC 48kHz and the playback pre-sets are set to default. I can hear audio of my clips after I log and capture, but I still need to hear audio during importing. I'm more confused than anything. If anybody has had this problem before or any suggestions for me, I'm all ears.
    Thanks.
    John

    ... as Bogie says.
However... this is a non-feature that dates back to slower CPU days... yet, still with all the different formats and such I (ME!!) I believe it's still good practice to leave it off.
Devoting as much CPU work to the capture process lessens the chance for something to go wrong. You can easily monitor the audio directly out of the deck as needed.
Sure -- octo cores need 30 apps open just to get your money's worth and I'm sure you won't have any issues using an 8th of one to send audio thru itself while the other 7 and 7/8ths are used for capture... but who wants to risk it?
Not me... I'm to old to change my ways.
Blast you FCP v1.2.5 on a beige G3 with 7gig and 15gig hard drive -- you taught me well.

I recently upgraded from an iPhone 4s to an iPhone 5.  I have a Motorola HX550 Bluetooth Headset which worked flawlessly with the iPhone 4s.  However, since upgrading to the iPhone 5, I frequently lose audio when in the middle of a call.  I am not certain whether it is a full disconnect or just an audio loss.  The person on the other end reports still being able to hear me, however, I suppose they could hear me speaking over another source even if bluetooth disconnected. The loss of audio is always preceded by a quick shrill noise, so I can easily tell when it happens.  All I have to do to fix the problem is to select Audio Source on the call screen, temporarily switch audio back to the iPhone, and then switch back to the headset, and then it starts working again.
Is is important to note that I am not the only one experiencing this issue:
This is a link to someone using the Motorola H19txt headset experiencing the same issue
    https://forums.motorola.com/posts/94ac15ad7c
If you go to the Plantronics website and look at the "Ratings and Reviews" on the Voyager Legend you will see the same issue reported:
http://www.plantronics.com/us/product/voyager-legend (next paragraph is taken from the review since there is no direct link to the review.
Really nice Headset unless you own an Iphone 5. I own several Plantronics headsets and have always loved the quality/ performance. This headset seems not to be compatible with the new Iphone 5. In the middle of a conversation it will lose all incoming audio. This leaves you trying to switch audio sources really fast in order not to lose your phone call. Ive tried 3 legend headsets and they all do the same thing. Hopefully this gets fixed soon because the headset is really nice
Since this issue appears to affect multiple headsets from multiple vendors, I think it is fair to conclude that it is an issue with the iPhone5 bluetooth itself.
I am posting this as a new discussion as I don't see any other posts specific to this iPhone 5 Bluetooth issue.  I would have reported this as a problem to Apple, but don't seem to be able to find a way to do this on the web.  Hopefully they are already aware, but if not, maybe they will see i here.

here is an interesting thing: take the iphone and set lock screen to never. Now make an email with siri--be sure to activate her with call button. get to the body and get some text in there. then just stop talking. LOCK SCREEN APPEARS!!!!!! and of course you draft is gone.
There does seem to be a work around for some--maybe all these issues. Don't use the call button--use the buttons on the phone.
Siri seems to behave properly with scenerio above---sans call button. She does not go to lock.

My Iphone5 was replaced and having same Problem. Only does this when using bluetooth for talking.

I have the exact same issue... I've been using a Jabra Extreme2 and just this weekend, bought a Plantronics Marque2 and today had the same issue, so it's clearly not the headset but the phone or OS.
I might try a restore and see if it helps...

  • Adobe Premiere CC 2014 - droping audio during multicam

    Hello all,
I have an issue with Premiere CC's multicam and it seems to be dropping audio during switching of cameras in mutlicam. I have not figured out what causes this since it only happens about 4 times per one hour clip, totally random. Now I don't see any wrong settings, but with expanded view I also see that the waveform is missing:
Any ideas on how to get the audio back, not sure what happened but any ideas are appreciated. I have already re-rendered the audio so I'm guessing it's not a cache problem. The audio is a direct input from the mixing table and is full with no breaks through the video.

OK I have finally figured it out. Apparently the bug occurs if you "refix" the multicam. Example I was not happy with the selected camera went back and reedited it. Premiere then becomes a 62yo cafeteria lady, whom is 1 month away from being retired and a kid says he doesn't eat a certain food and she just fixed everything up and serves him.
What happens is the 1st time around I used example camera 1, did not like what I was seeing went back switched to camera 3, Premiere switched the audio to Camera 2. It always chose the third audio that wasn't the video (Example nr. 2: I used camera 3 switched to camera 1 Premiere selected the audio of camera 2). I've set the multicam to use only Audio Track 1 and the rest are all nonexisting, since I wanted to use only the audio that was a direct input from the mixing board not from the mics on cameras, that is why the drop happened. Now why Premiere does this is anybody's guess, but the way to fix this is to simply go to the parts where there is no audio clicking on the audio while holding ALT, going to Multi-camera and choosing the right audio source, as you can see from the screenshots below.
Of course there is one problem left unsolved and that is how to prevent this from choosing a random reedited multicam clip when you turn off or restart your computer, simply put you cannot. So my advice for anyone looking to solve this is 1st find the clips that are problematic then change the audio sources, and just make the encode. Other than that it can be solved with a little fix, just replacing the audio in the original sequence with the one you want for every camera, but then a 1-2ms buzzing noise comes in whenever you change cameras in my case working on a rock concert where mostly the camera changes every 3 sec it starts to sound like a bee hive in a matter of minutes, and I have no fix for that at the moment.

  • N95 repeatedly loses consciousness during the upda...

What is the problem as my N95 repeatedly (already 5 times) loses consciousness during the update. There is plenty of power in the battery and I have charger cable connected.
The PC update software always asks me to resurrect the phone ("elvytä" in Finnish) by removing the battery and charger for a moment and reconnecting, pressing the power on button for a few seconds and then pressing some type of "try to resurrect" button on the update sw's user interface.
    I have tried to
    * not have the charger plugged in (no effect)
    * not to give pin (does not resurrect)
    * to give pin (seems the way to go but dies again)
After so many times of having to resurrect the phone I have now canceled the sw update, but now the phone seems to die on its own.
    What to do?

It's happened to me twice in the last 11 days, and it's happened twice to another user as well. See this thread for more:
    https://discussions.apple.com/thread/4408720?start=0&tstart=0
Not too pleased about this, because it takes about 30 hours to sync my 64 GB Touch due to converting to 128 Kbps AAC. This never happened to me with any version of iOS prior to 6. It's just music that goes missing, and it is not due to wireless sync, which I disabled long ago.

  • NO AUDIO DURING PLAYBACK ON TIMELINE

Ever since I tried using the Narration tool in Premiere Elements 12, I have had nothing but problems with audio.  The narration tool itself cause Premiere to crash.  I decided not to use it again, but I continue to have problems.  I can hear audio in the clips when i play them through the source monitor, but if I drop it on the timeline, then there is no audio during playback.  I've already checked my audio output settings and I've already tried restarting Elements and my Macbook.  I've even tried to change the audio output devices just to make sure I didn't screw it up when trying to activate the microphone for narration.  Please help!
*NOTE - this is only a problem in the current project.  When I made a new project, it played back fine.  The problem is that I have hundreds of assets that I've renamed with descriptive file names, as opposed to the formatted file name the camera gave them.

    Good morning Steve.
Yes, there is a waveform on the clips.  However, when I open Audio Mixer, I do not see any audio registering.
Also, I do not have a USB microphone plugged into my computer.
Finally, I have done the Audio Hardware check.  I have tried using both "Built in Output" and "System Default Input/Output" but neither works.
Not sure if it helps to know this, but I have also tried to add music files to both Audio 1 track and also Soundtrack track.  Neither one will play back audio on the timeline, even though I can clearly see the waveform on the file.  It also does not register on the audio mixer.  This tells me that it;s definitely an issue with this specific timeline.  Is there any setting or mute button I may have accidentally changed?  None of the mute buttons are checked off in the audio mixer.

  • NO AUDIO during playback after converting the VIDEO using Creative Video Conver

    I have a ZEN 2GB/4GB/8GB/6GB/32GB.
I tried to convert video from a dvd using Creative Video Converter.
The video is fine but there is no audio during playback.
    What am I doing wrong?

"If this is the case, the original video file may be in a format that contains muxed (multiplexed) audio and video, and cannot be exported with audio."..."If the format is "MPEG1 Muxed" or "MPEG2 Muxed," the audio portion of the file may not be retained with QuickTime Pro or iMovie."
I have read that article and I thought it ment that the sound will work after you convert to the MPEG4 format, which I did.
Are you saying that if it starts out as "Muxed audio" then there is no way to convert it?
If that is the case then in what situation would you need to use the Videora Converter?
    Thanks,
    Sean

  • No audio during calls

iphone 4 just replaced because it would not charge and now i have no audio during calls all other sound works fine was doing the same on ios 5(what the phone came with)

just did hard restart still no fix

  • When I import .mov file to Idvd I lose audio in certain clips

The .mov file I can paly everything fine thru quicktime but on import to Idvd I lose audio on some of the clips. Why? all the boxes are checked on the I movie.

Where did your .mov file orginate from? If it came from a camcorder or a digital still camera that takes MPEG movies, then you need two pieces of software to separate the audio from the .mov file. First, download the Free MPEG Streamclip (do a Google search), and once you download that, there will be a link to download the $20 Apple MPEG Streamclip plug-in for Quicktime. MPEG Streamclip is brilliant in that it will convert your MPEG .mov file back to a DV file for proper input into iMovie for editing while the QT plug-in will separate the audio. In it's original form, the audio to your MPEG movie is imbedded into the video. QT will play it fine, but iMovie needs to have it separated.

There's a whole lot to read in your post, and frankly I have not read it all.
Having said that, this troubleshooting guide should help:

In particular, pay attention to the mobile device support sections near the bottom, assuming you have already done the items above it.

Test after taking each of the following steps that you haven't already tried. Back up all data before making any changes.
    1. Make sure the network is on the preferred list by following these instructions. It's important to read the article carefully, as it's the starting point for any further efforts to solve the problem. If you skip any of the steps, the problem may not be solved. Make sure the box marked
Remember networks this computer has joined
    is checked.
    2. Follow the instructions in this support article under the heading
Symptom: After restarting or waking from sleep, my computer might not connect to the Internet
    3. Reset the PRAM.
    4. Make a note of all your settings for Wi-Fi in the Network preference pane, then delete the connection from the connection list and recreate it with the same settings. You do this by clicking the plus-sign icon below the connection list, and selecting Wi-Fi as the interface in the sheet that opens. Select Join other network from the Network Name menu, then select your network. Enter the password when prompted and save it in the keychain.
    5. From the Location menu at the top of the Network preference pane, select Edit Locations. A sheet will drop down. Click the plus-sign button to create a new location. Give it any name you want. In the new location, set up the Wi-Fi service with the same settings you used before. Click Apply and test.
    6. Launch the Keychain Access application. Search for and delete all AirPort network password items that refer to the network. Make a note of the password first.
    7. Repair permissions on the startup volume.
    8. Turn off Bluetooth and test.
    9. Reset the System Management Controller.
    10. This step shouldn't be necessary, but has been advised by Apple Support in some cases, apparently as a workaround for a bug. Open the Energy Saver pane in System Preferences. If applicable, click the padlock icon in the lower left corner to unlock the settings. Enter your administrator login password when prompted.
Select the Power Adapter tab and uncheck the boxes marked
              Wake for Wi-Fi network access
    and
              Enable Power Nap...
if present. Then, if the computer is a MacBook, select the Battery tab and uncheck
              Enable Power Nap...
    11. Reinstall OS X.
