Lose Internet when Extending Coax from ONT to MI424 Rev. I Router

I need to move my MI424 Rev i router.  It's now connected to the ONT with maybe 8 ft of coax and no splitters.  I need to add at least 50 ft of RG6 and move it.  However, whenever I add more than about 10 ft, I lose the internet connection.  Neither the WAN Coax or WAN Ethernet lights will come on.  But if I use only a short 6 ft length, it does reconnect and works fine.
Has anybody experienced this?  I'm thinking the router must be defective, but maybe I'm missing something. I know I could switch to a CAT5 connection to the ONT, but I'd prefer using the RG6 since I already have spare coax wired in place.  I'd also like to be sure there's no problem with the router's coax connection. Thanks a lot.

This sounds odd to me. I think the long length of coax could be the reason. Maybe a signal amplifier or splitter on the line would help?
I have coax coming from the ont going up to my attic to a splitter then there's about 45-50 feet of coax going to my 2nd bedroom where my router is then another 5 feet of coax to the router from the wall outlet and I see no issues at all.
Could be a bad router, but sounds like the signal after so much length is degrading.

  • Lose internet when time machine starts backup

Title says it all. I lose internet connectivity (wireless) when time machine starts. If I turn airport on and off from the taskbar, it works and the backup completes itself.

    Me too!
It used to work just fine, but ever since I upgraded to snow leopard, I was having these intermittent internet outages, and it was driving me crazy. I finally realized it was happening every time Time Machine would start up. I turned Time Machine off, and now my internet works just fine. But this is obviously not an ideal solution. I'm glad to see I'm not alone.
    Anyone else having this problem??

  • MBA loses internet connection after waking from sleep

I have a new Macbook Air running Mavericks and new 802.11ac Airport Extreme router.
My problem is that the MBA drops the internet connection after waking from sleep. I tried the solution offered by the OP, but it didn't work.
In my case, here's what I have to do to get a connection again. I open the Network preference pane, and then choose "Assist me..." and then "Diagnostics". Invariably it will show a green light beside Wi-Fi, Wi-Fi Settings and Network Settings. I have 5 bars showing in the WiFi menu bar icon. But ISP, Internet and Server will be yellow.
When I go through the steps prompted by the wizard, the ISP/Internet/Server lights turn green on the third screen where I select the wireless network I want to join.
It seems as if it's connecting to the WiFi network when it wakes from sleep, but losing the internet connection?
Note: I have a new iMac as well running Mavericks and don't have this problem with it.

  • MacBook loses internet when it sleeps

I'm trying to help a friend with a MacBook problem. I've tried some things suggested in other posts (restarting router, repair permissions, etc.) with no luck. Two iPhones and my MacBook Air connect to the internet just fine. Whenever this MacBook wakes from sleep, Safari says it is not connected to the Internet. I click on Network Diagnostics button (on the Safari Error Page) and go thru the process, just clicking "continue" at each page ... at the end it says the connection is fine, and it is. The internet is then available just fine until the MacBook goes to sleep again, then it loses the connection and we have to go through the diagnostics again. The setup is an AT&T 2-Wire Router which connects to the Internet and creates the wireless network. I should also mention the Airport Express which he uses for Airtunes also stopped working (won't connect to the wireless network). The MacBook is running 10.5.8. BTW, this started happening after the hard drive was recently replaced by Apple at the local Apple store. Nothing else has changed.

    This any help?

The AE probably just needs to be reset back to factory settings (you know, complete reset, where its name becomes "Apple Network ------" and then add it back into the network - fairly simple process.

  • Lose internet when plugging into switch

I am perplexed why I can create a wireless network with my airport extreme and have great internet connectivity through my cable company, but when I plug the airport into a switch to distribute the internet through out my office the internet immediately starts slowing down and eventually completely goes away.  Unplug extreme from switch and the internet comes back for wireless clients.  Problem started about a month ago.  I figured switches were going bad so I replaced every switch in the office.  Did not solve problem. Thought maybe airport extreme was going bad so I replaced it  with latest  airport extreme (cube). Problem still exists.   Nothing has changed in my network configuration in past two years.  No other services that use the network is effected, just internet connectivity.  I was quite ugly with my internet provider thinking it was a service issue until on a whim I unplugged extreme from switch and my iPad, iPhone, and macbook pro were able to connect to the internet wirelessly instantly.  Plug it back into the switch and internet connectivity for wireless and wired goes away.
    Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

That's only one explanation, and an oversimplified one at that. In any event I think your best course of action might still require disassembling your network and adding one piece at a time. Assuming your business is closed for the weekend, now might be your best opportunity.
Short of that, power down all switches, Macs, other devices (though I doubt iPhones, voip phones or printers can contribute to the problem) and the Extreme (no need to reset it). Then, power up the Extreme and one Mac that is connected through a switch. Turn Wi-Fi "off" to ensure Ethernet is its only viable network connection, as well as for troubleshooting simplicity.
It should have no connection until you power up that switch. Do that, and determine if the problem still exists.
Assuming it doesn't, turn its Wi-Fi back "on" and test.
The iPhones and iPads should also be working at this point.
Proceed to the next Mac and test the same way. If it's connected to a different switch, power it on also, then re-check the first Mac.

  • I lose internet when I disconnect Vonage

    Hello all!
I recently discontinued Vonage VOIP. The setup was initially cable modem > vonage box > airport router. I have four mac set up on the airport network.
When I remove the Vonage box and connect the Airport Extreme directly to the modem, I lose the internet. I still have internet if I connect the modem directly to my mac, and the computers on the network still speak to each other through airport, but there is no internet.
If I put the vonage box back into the setup, the internet reappears and everyone can surf again.
Any ideas on how I can fix this?

Your AirPort Extreme router must not be configured correctly. It should be set to obtain a WAN IP address automatically and serve up DHCP on the local network.
Be sure that you cut all power (including battery-supplied power) on the modem before reconnecting the AirPort Extreme router to it—otherwise the cable modem may be looking for another MAC address and the AirPort Extreme router will not receive a WAN IP address.

  • Macbook pro with maverick 10.9.2 loses internet connection after waking from sleep

  • Crazy crazy crazy! Airport loses internet when second monitor attached!

Can this really be happening? I decided to try using a second monitor attaching via a mini dvi -dvi converter. Several attempts to get it recognised by the iMac without any success. Scoured the internet groups to see that very many (and I mean very many) others had this problem.
Solved it by swapping my dvi-I lead for a dvi-D lead. The difference is that the DVI-I lead has fewer pins than the DVI-D lead and the iMac mini dvi socked supplies a DVI-D signal. Phew!
So--pleased with myself at surmounting this I fired up Final Cut Pro, dragged the canvas window to the second monitor and had to play around with the resolution setting to get a stable playing of the timeline.
Decided to go on online and see if I was alone on this.
    NO INTERNET CONNECTION!!!
30 mins later decided to unplug the second monitor (Philips 200) and got back my inet connection.
Tried the routine again and sure enough each time the second monitor was connected I lost the Airport connection!
Is it possible that the proximity of the second monitor fouls the wireless signal?
    Or what?

So far no one has either claimed the same problem or offered a possible explanation.
As I said this loss of internet connection when 2nd monitor is connected is unbelievably odd.
It sounds like another case of EMI (Electromagnetic interference). I believe this is at the root of all these weird Airport or wireless problems. Interestingly enough many of these anomalies are exhibited on the newer generation Macs. Different materials were used, shielding could have been compromised either for cost cutting or by design error. Regardless I'm sure Apple is aware, unfortunately those who purchased these machines may be in the worse case, left with hard wiring for reliable internet and or network connections.......sorry.....

  • Initiating airplay from Mac Mini to AppleTV causes router to crash

    Hi,
I have an AppleTV (new) and a Mac Mini (new), both purchased in the last few months.  When I try to initate Airplay from my Mac Mini it crashes the network.  Every device on the network loses internet.  This can only be resolved by rebooting the router.  I have tried this several times, but still no luck.  Any help would be appreciated.

I can play audio on both the Mac Mini and Apple TV simultaneously by using ITunes and the Airplay icon from within ITunes.  In ITunes, I select the Airplay icon and choose "mulitiple" and select both "computer" and "Apple TV" and have volume controls for both and each indiviudally.  It works, so the devices are connected and Ethernet is not the issue.  Is there a way outside of ITunes to play audio over both Mac Mini speakers and Apple TV speakers?

  • Only MBP loses internet connection when I move away from router

Last week I started having trouble with my old Motorola modem/router.  I bought a new Zoom modem/router and set it up on Friday.  The router is under my desk maybe 12 feet from the top of my stairs (not in a room, it's in an open loft at the top of the stairs).  Right now I am on my MBP at my desk, wirelessly connected, and everything is fine.  However, if I take my MBP downstairs (or even on to the stairs), I lose internet.  The wi-fi status always shows full strength.  My iPhone and iPad get wi-fi fine downstairs, even though the wi-fi status doesn't show full strength.  It is driving me crazy.  What could be causing this?  Thanks.

You could try changing the chanel of your router

  • When I connect imac to network via airport all devices on the network lose internet connectivity

Every device stays connected to the network but the internet stops working. Usually the network will continue to function normally for about five minutes when the imac connects, but then every device loses internet access via the network, NOT just the imac. As soon as I turn off the imac's airport they get internet connectivity back. A wired network connection to the imac seems to work OK.
The airport is configured as "Using DHCP"
    Mac OS X 10.6.8
As far as I know, no changes have been made to the computer recently (but it is not my machine and the owner isn't here atm)
I found one other resource with the same problem here:
    http://www.mac-forums.com/forums/internet-networking-wireless/183185-turning-my- macbook-airport-breaks-internet-connection-entire-network.html
but the solution didn't work. When I deleted the three files mentioned in the solution in that thread, my problem is not solved.
If you have any ideas or need more information I would love to hear from you.
    Thanks guys.

Yes it is possible that the two machines are creating a Computer-to-Computer network and are not going through the Express.

  • 7510e printer loses internet connectivity when it goes to sleep

I own a 7510e all in one printer, I connected it wireless again after having it connected with a USB
cable, I had to do this because my printer loses internet connectivity when it goes to sleep or if I get a power outage, this has been going on since I purchased it last year. I got a new wireless router/modem combo from my ISP server and hoped that would solve the problem but it has not.
I cannot get any apps except for those that are on the front of my printer which are just for small kids. I am now told that this printer has been discontinued and 7520 has replaced it, I do not wish to spend another $200.00 in less than a year for a printer. It is registered with HP connected and I have a Efax # and HP connected address, I did everything correctly but it seems that each time I set it up wireless it messes up my desktop windows 7 home premium 64 bit, cloud services told me not to use  IE 10 but we are ready to download IE11 so I am using IE 10, this time HP support assistant quit working and I could not even uninstall it until I downloaded microsoft fix it and then redownloaded it from HP web site.
If anyone has any ideas I would appreciate it, I am not on a home group yet it always tells me I do not have administrators permission to do a lot of things, I am the only user.

    Hi All.
This is the first time I encounter this kind of issue, whenever user connect from the internet they cannot send email from their Phone or Windows Mail App, but they can retrieve email
But when they connect from Internal Network they can send email. I already test ActiveSync from internet using www.testexchangeconnectivity.com and it pass all tests.
I also check the Firewall and all the necessary ports already opened (we even open all ports) , the default TTL on the firewall 3600 second.
From what I read ActiveSync use some kind of HTTP POST or in MS terminology "PING" command, but still have no idea what kind of configuration that should be made to the Firewall so it can pass this "PING" command. Because from what I
see in Android Logcat the problem always related to this PING command
