Lose my wifi connection

All of the sudden I lose my connection to the Internet. I know my Wi-Fi is okay because I never lose contact connection on my lap top.  Someone had said to reset settings and I need to go to General and then reset.  There is a reset all settings or reset network settings. I'm afraid to do either one of those in case I lose all the settings that I put in before. My children help me do that and they aren't here now.  How do I go about it and do you think that is my problem?

The Apple Support Communities are an international user to user technical support forum. As a man from Mexico my first language is Spanish. I do not speak English, however I do write in English with the aid of the Mac OS X spelling and grammar checks. I also live in a culture perhaps very very different from your own. When offering advice in the ASC, my comments are not meant to be anything more than helpful and certainly not to be taken as insults.
Try a reset. Press & hold the Power and Home buttons simultaneously, ignoring the red power off slider, until the Apple logo appears. Then release both buttons. This should not affect any content on the iPad, it is similar to rebooting your computer.

  • I have a modem from my cable company that provides WiFi.  When I try to connect time capsule to the modem via an ethernet cable I am unable to and I also lose my wifi connection

I have a modem from my cable company that provides WiFi as well as ethernet ports for internet TV and Sonos.  But when I connect Time Capsule via an ethernet cable to the back of the modem I am unable to get it to work and I lose my wifi connection completely. I added Time Capsule to back up data and also to extend the reach of my wifi with an airport extreme hooked up by another computer.

Put the TC in bridge before you plug it in.. ie do the setup in isolation to the rest of the network..
I would also start a new wireless name on the TC so it is different to the cable router..
If you want to be exacting also set wireless channels so the cable router is set to say channel 1 and the TC set to 11 for 2.4ghz. Then plug it in.. you will have no trouble as the TC will get an ip address as part of the existing networking.. then extend the wireless using the extreme.

  • Streaming radio when I lose my wifi connection

I want to stream radio with wifi, but I am concerned I will rack-up big charges on my data plan if my internet connection dies.  Is there a way I can force streaming to halt if I lose my wifi connection.?  I discovered my iPhone will switch automatically to cell streaming when wifi streaming is not possible.

You can turn airplane mode during streaming, or go to settings and turn off data in the cellular settings.

  • My brand new iMac loses its WiFi connection when it goes to sleep, does anyone have a proven fix?.

I have a MacBook that is about 4 years old and a brand new iMac both are running the most up to date version of Lion.  My old MacBook has no issues; however, my iMac loses its WiFi connection every time it goes to sleep.  There are some discussions about this already out there but does anyone have a proven fix.  This is very frustrating.

I was having the same problem for a long time.  I tried everything but nothing seemed to make it stay connected.  It was very frustrating.  I just got a new Airport Extreme.....bang!.....all better.  Problem gone.

  • My Apple TV loses/regains wifi connection every 10seconds.

Installed my Apple tv yesterday, connected with my wifi, and everything worked fine.
Now Apple TV gets/loses the wifi connection approx. every 10 seconds.
Got other devices using same wifi without probs, both IOS (iPhone/iPad/Macbook) , android phones and pc.
Maybe something with the router configuration, but as said other IOS devices works excellent with wifi connection.
Anyone got a clue what could be causing this?
    Regards K Hartvig

Are you literally unplugging it or just putting it to sleep?

  • Hello, I have an iPod touch 5th gen and it continuously loses its wifi connection and also it doesn't show the usage status in the settings. It's got the 6.1.2. Software. Any idea as to what could be the problem?

I've recently updated the iPod and also restored it. But the problem with the wifi connectivity still prevails. There is also a problem with the battery. After having charged it completely, the usage still doesn't appear in the settings. Any opinions as to what could be the probable problem?

    In settings>general>usage it shows --
And yes, it shows the same problem when connected to other networks.

  • Why does my iPad often lose the Wifi connection?

    Hello all -
Often when I am using my iPad at home (which is where i use it 95% of time), the WiFi connection will simply disappear - sometimes every 2 minutes of so.  Sometimes, when I pull up the "Utility" screen from the bottom (sorry, don't know the correct name), and then unclick the WiFi connection, wait a few seconds, and turn it back on - the connection comes back.  But that probably only works 10-30% of the time.
The way I can always make it come back is to go to the Settings app, click on Wifi, where it shows no connection.  Then if I turn on WiFi, after a couple of seconds I see my network appear under the "Choose a Network..." section, and then a few seconds later, see it appear in the top section.
Does anybody know why this might be happening and what I can do to fix it?
    Thanks.

    Some things to try first:
    1. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord for 30 seconds or longer) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.
    2. Go to Settings>Wi-Fi and turn Off. Then while at Settings>Wi-Fi, turn back On and chose a Network.
    3. Change the channel on your wireless router (Auto or Channel 6 is best). Instructions at
    http://macintoshhowto.com/advanced/how-to-get-a-good-range-on-your-wireless-netw ork.html
    4. Go into your router security settings and change from WEP to WPA with AES.
    5.  Renew IP Address: (especially if you are drooping internet connection)
        •    Launch Settings app
        •    Tap on Wi-Fi
        •    Tap on the blue arrow of the Wi-Fi network that you connect to from the list
        •    In the window that opens, tap on the Renew Lease button

Note - When troubleshooting wifi connection problems, don't hold your iPad by hand. There have been a few reports that holding the iPad by hand, seems to attenuate the wifi signal.
Some Wi-Fi losses may stem from a problematic interaction between Wi-Fi and cellular data connections. Numerous users have found that turning off Cellular Data in Settings gets their Wi-Fi working again.
You may have many apps open which can possibly cause the slowdown and possibly the loss of wifi. In iOS 4-6 double tap your Home button & at the bottom of the screen you will see the icons of all open apps. Close those you are not using by pressing on an icon until all icons wiggle - then tap the minus sign. For iOS 7 users, there’s an easy way to see which apps are open in order to close them. By double-tapping the home button on your iPhone or iPad, the new multitasking feature in iOS 7 shows full page previews of all your open apps. Simply scroll horizontally to see all your apps, and close the apps with a simple flick towards the top of the screen.

  • Is there a way to get my iMac to restart automatically whenever it loses its WiFi connection?

It loses the connection more often than I'd like, a problem that can be remedied with a restart. However, when I'm away, I'm obviously not able to do that. This has made accessing my computer remotely rather difficult. I've searched for a solution, but haven't found any.
What I'm looking for is something I can activate before I leave that will restart the computer whenever it's dropped the connection or something that will restart the computer at regular intervals. If anyone can help, I'd really appreciate it.

Sorry, but that doesn't help me. I already knew that function existed and I use it to shut down my computer at a set time every night and start up at a set time every morning. Unless I can somehow make it restart multiple times per day, it's not useful, but thank you for trying.

  • Why does my iPad 3 lose the wifi connection after sleeping?, Why does my iPad 3 lose the wifi connection after sleeping?

When I am connected to the corporate network and my ipad goes to sleep, it forgets the network....  I have to reconnect manually. This only a happens at work.  At home, I connect as soon as I get close to the house. How do I correct this issue?????
    Thanks!!!

Thanks for the suggestions. The "Ask" switch is already off.
I am baffled because all my other devices work as expected, except my iPad. More frustrated than baffled I guess...

  • MacBook Pro loses wifi connection upon wake since I bought a new AirPort Express

Hi. I've been using Apple devices and computers since february 2008 and had no problems until now. I currently own an early 2011 13" MacBook Pro and a PC running Windows 7 and Ubuntu 12.10. Until early February, I used a 2nd gen AirPort Extreme to connect to wifi upstairs, being connected via Ethernet to my ISP's modem located downstairs which provides a weak wifi signal (of course my ISP says it's impossible since their modem is the best on the market), not even compatible with Apple's wifi systems (all other French ISPs modems are compatible with it), that's why I had to get a 30 ft ethernet cable running down the stairs. My connection was lost everytime I went upstairs/downstairs so I bought a new Airport Express to replace my ISP's modem wifi signal and I'm using my AirPort Extreme to extend the wifi network upstairs. Now all my devices and computers have a strong wifi signal anywhere in my house with only one downside: My MacBook Pro (and only it) loses the wifi connection upon wake after sleep and I have to disconnect/reconnect it manually. I didn't bother installing Windows on it as I removed the Superdrive to setup a DIY Fusion Drive a few months ago so I can no longer boot optical medias and I can't know if it's a hardware or software problem. Again, everything was working all right on it until I changed my Wifi network configuration a month ago when I bought my Airport Express.
    Can anyone help me ?
    Thanks in advance.

    Well this isn't making sence.
What is the model # on your extreme?

  • Intermittent WiFi Connections

I have a new Apple Thunderbolt Display and new MacBook Air 2011 which after a 30-60 minutes loses the WiFi connectivity.  I am using the Bluetooth Magic Trackpad with the Bluetooth iMac Keyboard.
Since I recently purchased the MacBook Air, I have been trying to establish a backup establish a Time Machine to my older Apple Time Capsule via WiFi, this only works when I disconnect from the Apple Thunderbolt display.
I have also connected periodically to a Seagate 2TB USB external drive.
I have to disconnect and restart to regain any WiFi connectivity.
I am using the latest OS X Lion and I have downloaded the latest software and firmware via Software Updates from Apple and all other software is up to date.
Curious to see if anyone else is seeing this issue.

Please disregard this Thread and instead reference the following thread.
    View the fulldiscussion
Last night I did attempt and applied the changes recommended to the Network Preferences in the above thread and saw some performance improvements.
For the Bluetooth system preferences there are settings available that could be tweaked.  Would it make sense that these settings be somehow changed to force them to not interfere with those same settings for WiFi?
    I have tried various scenarios:
As mentioned above, I have been connecting via USB directly into the MBA a Seagate 2TB external HD for iTunes music and ripped movies which take up > 150gb of space.
Plugged MBA into ATD without Bluetooth Trackpad & iMac Keyboard, WiFi worked fine.
Plugged MBA into ATD with Bluetooth Trackpad & iMac Keyboard, WiFi worked fine for a while before tabbed browser windows in Safari hourglassed and would not refresh.  Turned off Bluetooth, turned on Bluetooth re-connected, and all works fine until process repeated.
Unplugged MBA from ATD, WiFi works fine always (given that I am a WildBlue.Net Satellite user, that's an oxymoron).
Final note:  There are times when I have had all of the following "connected" to the new MacBook Air in one form or fashion which is a lot of stuff going on at the same time:
    * Power cord.
    * WiFi connection to Apple Time Capsule through to WildBlue satellite modem for internet.
    * Bluetooth Magic Trackpad
    * Bluetooth iMac keyboard
    * USB 2TB Seagate Ext HD
    * Apple Thunderbolt Display
    * USB iPhone/iPad2 for iTunes syncing.

  • Late 2013 15" Retina Macbook Pro - wifi connection timeout with one router

    Hi,
I've recently purchased a new Macbook Pro retina 15 inch late 2013 model. Everything is fine at home, but at work I cannot connect to one wireless router (Netgear WAG102). The computer tries to connect but I get a connection timeout error after a few seconds for every attempt.
I have tried every suggestion for wifi issues that I can find on the forums, and have reset the router.
A colleague has also recently purchased the same computer except 13 inch model - he has exactly the same problem.
Any suggestions? I suspect given that two of us have the same problem that there is an incompatibility with the MBP and this particular router. I notice that there are quite a few discussions about similar issues with the macbook pro.

I too have a MBP Retina, 15", late 2013, and am having wifi connection issues.  I've tried several fixes suggested on these discussions and by Apple.  Nothing corrects the problem.  I've been told it's my router, but I find that difficult to believe give that my wife has a MBP 13" 2012 (non retina), that has no issues at all, nor do our iPhones.  It's just my MBP Retina.
My issue seems to be when waking from sleep, I lose the wifi connection.  I have to turn wifi of then on again, and it reconnects.  The only thing that corrects the problem for me is when I disable bluetooth.  I have the magic mouse and it's basically useless becuase I need bluetooth on for it to work.
I find this to be an annoying problem.  This is my first MacBook, and I really like it, but this wifi thing is bad.  Never had this problem with my Windows machines.
