what do you do when you lose all your pictures on iPhoto?
you restore them from your backup. How did you lose them?

Good evening,
after upgrading Iphoto 9.5 a page opened requiring to upgrade my library. As it did not work out,for fear of losing all my pictures I loaded Iphoto 9.4.3 with Time machine but I had lost quite a few photos. As a matter of fact, after searching , I found them In Photo library in 'images' on my hard drive. When I double click, 9.5 appears with all my pictures. Therefore, I would like to use 9.5 just by by clicking on the icon down my finder and not by being obliged to open my hard drive.
Would you please tell me what I should do. Thank you.

So, you have restored 9.4.3 from Time Machine but can see all your pictures in 9.5?
Do you have two version of iPhoto on your Machine?
And if you didn't update the Library, ("as it did not work out,") how can you see things in 9.5?
So, whatever set up you have is confusing. -
I got a new Mac and was trying to burn from I movie to get it to a disk but new I mac dose not have I DVD . So I had my old I Life 11 disc with I DVD on it and I installed it, when I did this it did something to my I photo I can not open it at all it has a message that reads ,you can't open the application IPhoto because it may be damaged or incomplete . Now I can not get or see any of my photos how do I reverse what I did? can I take that I Life back out and how? with out losing all my pictures? and how do you burn to DVDs now without IDVD?

Your photos are in the iPhoto Library. Almost certainly that is intact, so don't worry.
Go to your Home folder and open the folder called Pictures. What you want is in there, iPhoto Library. Don't do anything there, this is just to reassure yourself.
So it is a matter of getting the iPhoto app to work. Apps are in the Applications folder. Find it and trash it.

Why did my Mac delete all my pictures on Iphoto?
My Mac deleted all my pictures in IPhoto without asking me... I do not know what happened, or why it happened. I've had my Macbook Pro for only 1 year.
With the amount of information you've provided it's impossible to offer a solution. We can't see your computer so we need to know the details of your problem and setup, i.e.:
what version of iPhoto are you using?
what system version are you running?
what do you see in the iPhoto window when iPhoto opens?
what fixes have you tried?
where is your library located?
did you apply any updates or upgrades just prior to the problem occurring?
are you running a "managed" or "referenced" library?
what type of Mac?
how much free space on your boot drive? -
Import all your picture files into iMovie
How do you import all your picture files into imovie all at one instead of one at a time?
Put them into a folder then drag the folder to the timeline in a project. It's best to use iPhoto for this, as it's easily accessible from the Photo Browser in iMovie.
In iPhoto, create an album containing all the photos you wish to import to iMovie. The iPhoto album can then be dragged from iMovie's Photo Browser. It's best to place the photos in the desired order in the iPhoto album before dragging into the iMovie project.
By "pictures" I'm assuming that you mean photos (or stills) - not video clips.

We do need more information to help. Are the images gone from your iPhoto library, or is the iPhoto Library missing? How and when did this happen?
If images are missing from the library: Did you check for hidden photos? Did you check the iPhoto Trash?
If the pictures are still in the iPhoto Trash, open the Trash, select the images and and press the liitle arrow in the lower right corner - select "Put back".
If the pictures are still in an "iPhoto" folder in the system Trash (with sub folders named by date), import these folders to your iPhoto library.
Have you checked, if you have opened the correct iPhoto Library? Launch iPhoto with the options key held down, to select another Library.
If the entire Library is missing, have you searched for ".photolibrary" with spotlight?
Do have a backup?
If none of these easy measures helps, report back with more details - your iPhoto version, and anything else that might be helpful to find out, what the problem is. Don't do anything that changes the contents of your hard drive for now.

my i phone is telling me I need to do a restore. Screen shows itunes logo and thats it, even after turning off and on again.
if do this how can I avoid losing all my pictures videos etc?Pictures/Videos in your camera roll? If so, & not backed up or imported to your computer, they are gone. There's no supported way to recover them now.

How do you stop recovery mode to prevent you loseing all your data on your device when you have to restore it?
The thing is i did not start recovery mode, it did it automatically when i was updating to ios6 and an error occured.

The options in itunes seem quite limited. For instance, I have culled the pictures on the iphone down to a nice 250 or so pics i dont want to lose. But when I try to add another selected folder through itunes it wants to erase all the pictures on the iphone I have. I could create a folder out of all the pic i have on it now and then select that as well when Synching but that means any new pictures i like in the future won't be saved either if i wish to add more from the compuiter through synching.
How do i add a folder of pictures from itunes without affecting the pictures on the camera roll. This doesnt seem to be an issue when adding music manually to an ipod for instance. Wheres the openness of the system to hand-pick and create your own scenario?

Some possibilities:
iPhoto Sharing:
IEnable Sharing in your iPhoto (Preferences -> Sharing), leave iPhoto running and move to the other machine. There, enable 'Look For Shared Libraries'. Your Library will appear in the other source pane.
Any user can drag a pic from the Shared Library to their own in the iPhoto Window.
Remember iPhoto must be running on both machines for this to work.
Use iPhoto Library Manager
Export from one Library and copy to the other mchine and import there -
I want to make a copy of all my pictures in iPhoto
while working on a photo book my events, 242 of them, all got mixed in just several big events. I have been trying to create new events mostly of our trips but sometimes the event will appear and sometimes not. The event will show but with no pictures. I want to try the iphoto first aid but want to make a backup picture file off site first. Do I copy the masters or original files.
Neither. You back up the whole Library.
Most Simple Back Up:
Drag the iPhoto Library from your Pictures Folder to another Disk. This will make a copy on that disk.
Slightly more complex: Use an app that will do incremental back ups. This is a very good way to work. The first time you run the back up the app will make a complete copy of the Library. Thereafter it will update the back up with the changes you have made. That makes subsequent back ups much faster. Many of these apps also have scheduling capabilities: So set it up and it will do the back up automatically.
Example of such apps: Chronosync - but there are many others. Search on MacUpdate or the App Store -

Go to your Pictures Folder and find the iPhoto Library there. Right (or Control-) Click on the icon and select 'Show Package Contents'. A finder window will open with the Library exposed.
Look there for the iPod Photo Cache.
Trash it. Start iPhoto and try sync again.

I deleted all my photos however when i go into storage it still says i have photos.
iPhoto is an Application to manage and edit images.
The images do not reside in iPhoto - just thumbnail links (think "like web pages show images"). The files themselves, and duplicates and thumbnails actually reside in (but do not delete, move or rename any of these files or you'll "confuse" iPhoto) the User/Pictures/iPhoto Library (which is itself actually a container of 21 items 8 of which are folders)
You should reindex your drive after making massive changes... you may be looking at old (cached) data in the Storage report.
Open the Spotlight system preferences and then drag your hard drive to the Privacy list, then back off again. This action will clear the index and cause the system to rebuild it from scratch. The second approach is to run the following Terminal command, which will likewise erase the Spotlight index:
sudo mdutil -E /
After the index has been erased, you will see the indexing progress bar appear in the Spotlight menu. Reindexing may take a while to complete (sometimes several hours depending on the type and size of the drive's contents), but after it's done, the system information utility should properly report file sizes. -
How do you sync your ipod to your itunes without loseing all your music?
Some how my itunes deleted all music (everything except my purchased music and I dont have my other music anywhere else only on my ipod.). Today I tryed to add a new Cd but i cant do that untill i get all my music from my ipod back into itunes by syncing it without losing everything. how do I do that i need to know ASAP
You need to put your ipod in manually manage mode. When you plug in your ipod the box that pops up is gonna state your ipod has been synced with another library do you want to erase and sync or transfer purchases or cancel. Hit cancel. Under devices in theleft hand side of itunes click the name of your ipod. That brings up a summary page, then select under options on that summary page manually manage ipod then click apply. You can then add content by dragging and dropping from itunes library to the name of your device. this allows syncing with multiple computers withuot losing content.

if your iphone 3gs just shuts down when something went wrong with your hardware is there any possible way to get all pictures or other important stuff onto itunes?
What happened to the phone. Did it just go black? Did you try to plug it into Itunes and see if it can be seen or throw it on the charger. You can still try the reset procedure listed in http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1430 and see if the phone turns back on.
The only way to get things back is to have backed them up ahead of time. -
Can't sync all my pictures from iPhoto to iPhone 5

i usually sync all my iphone pics with iphoto. i have in iPhoto all the pics I ever took with my previous iphones. today i changed my iphone 5 with another iphone 5 ( because the "old" one didn't work properly) and tryed to sync my photos from iPhoto to the new phone. I have lots of pics 5200 to be more precise . The sync started and it stopped at 430 out of 5200...i closed iphoto , opened it again but nothing...
help!
thank youThe first thing I would do is try to use Image Capture on the Mac to pull all of the Photos off your old iPhone. The Image Capture program is found in your Applications/Utilities folder. After you have them on your computer, download the free program Pic Share It. Install the free version of it on your iPad and then drag and drop the photos from your Mac to your iPad. Here's a video showing you how it work.
