Losing ATT internet connection every hour. Help?

Just upgraded from old Airport to Time Capsule. Old network worked flawlessly for years.
My problem is now with Time Capsule I get disconnected from the internet every hour or so. After about 5 minutes the internet connection is automatically restored. (Or I can do a reboot of the modem to restore it quicker.)
I'm using ATT DLS service. Have a Speedstream 5100 modem.
Apple has replaced my Time Capsule, but the problem persists.
I reverted back to my old Airport network and the problem disappears.
Seems to be some type of incompatibility between Time Capsule and ATT.
I've been on the phone for hours with both ATT and Apple. Anybody out there have any thoughts???

I have a similar problem with a new TC 2TB unit. I have ATT ADSL service using a Speedstream modem. PPPoE is setup on the TC and it works and connects. All features of the TC are working (wi-fi, Back to My Mac, Time Machine, etc...) and the light is solid green on the TC.
Periodically, the LED blinks amber and I've lost Internet access. The Speedstream modem shows all green lights. I have found that power cycling the Speedstream modem brings the TC back to solid green after about 2 minutes.
I am seeing this happen about once a day and it can happen overnight when there is no network activity. I am thinking that the lease on the IP address given by ATT expires and the TC does not know enough to reinitiate a connection. I have set the PPPoE Connection to Always On and experienced the problem. I have also tried setting the Connection to Automatic and set the Disconnect if Idle setting to Never.

  • Losing internet connection every hour

    Hi Guys
I replaced my Linksys router with an Airport Extreme 4th Gen about 2 weeks ago
I keep on losing Internet Connection when connected through a Wireless connection. This happens with my Windows 7 PC's, with my iPhone4 and with my iPad2. The connection with the AE is kept alive but the passthrough to the Internet does not work anymore. I have to reset my wireless adapter to reconnect and rebuild my internet connection.

  • After updating to ios 8 i keep losing my internet connection, and have to restart every time?

After updating my ipad mini to ios 8, i keep losing my internet connection and have to restart.

Hi Turn Router off for  30 seconds Goto Settings Reset Network Settings After reset you need to enter your router wireless key. Also later check on website for a Firmware update for your router. Cheers Brian

  • How do i stop losing my internet connection?

I am running with OS 10.5.8.  Today I started randomly losing my internet connection.  It is not caused by the computer going in to sleep mode as I have seen other threads mention.  I connect to the internet wirelesssly but Airport indicates there is nothing wrong with my connection and all the other computers in the house are functioning just fine.
The only time I can get the internet to work is after I turn off AirPort and turn it back on, then it will only work for a few seconds.  Network Diagnostics is no help, it tells me my connection is fine.  I have tried deleting the network profile and recreating it, rebooting the system, resetting the PRAM, and making sure the software is up-to-date (when I can get a connection).  All these attempts only make it work for a few seconds before it quits again.
Does anybody know how to fix this?  Has anybody else experienced the same problem?

  • I have a brand new iMac (late 2012) that keeps losing its internet connection

I have a brand new iMac (late 2012) that keeps losing its internet connection - like every five minutes. I have had it for three weeks. During the first two weeks, it worked flawlessly. However, just as the refund period ended - it became desktop dead weight. Suggestions?

did u ever get a solution to this?  I have the same 2012 mines 27". It drops after sleep sometimes and can't find anything. Wifi. Connection to the Internet. I pull up network assistant it just gives me blank stares and restart everything. It doesn't even see the time machines and they are still there. I have it right now in full error and my iphones allowing me to see everything as connected and I'm posting here in the forum while my iMac cannot. Doesn't happen all the time. Not sure why it happens or what's goinng on with It. Works great and then sudden wifi failure to recognize.

  • I recently installed Os Lion and now I keep losing my internet connection...I think it must be the upload...

I recently installed Os Lion and now keep losing my internet connection, numerous times a day.  Before the upgrade, I never had a connectivity issue.  Can you advise me how to correct this problem?

The answer may be found in the More Like This column.  Have you checked there?

  • Loosing internet connection every 15 minutes

I am "loosing" my internet connection every 15 minutes. The cable box was replaced. Internet sharing is off. The firewall is on and no ports are checked. But, every 15 minutes, I get a message (using Safari) that there is no connection. I select network diagnostics and after I go through a few steps, all the buttons are green and then the connection works. This is very problematic, though, since I am loosing work while working online. Any suggestions?

    Hi otobinchicago,
The fact is you can delete the .plist (com.apple.networkConfig.plist) and re-enter your setting and you will find out if this is the problem, but as I can assure you I have been through the same process. Reconfiguring the computer, the modem, etc, and it was the hardware.
You could try taking your computer to a friends house linking it to their modem and testing it that way. As long as the post-computer to ISP link is nothing to do with your hardware, you will see that it could be hardware or software.
My bet is that it is hardware. It sounds too similar to what I had.

  • My ipad mini loses Internet connection every time it automatically locks.

My ipad mini loses Internet connection every time it automatically locks. I have to re-establish the connection but sometimes it would take too long for the Internet to be connected. I'm using a wireless connection

just browsing around I found this question. Also on my mini retina I fight with this problem. After a lot of searching I found that the only solution is to switch to
Airplane Mode, wait few seconds and switch again.
Or, if you are lucky, to find a Genius who replaces your unit. Cheers

  • Wrt610n losing internet connection every 2 days

I've just received a wr610n v1 as a warranty replacement for an older linksys router.  It works fine normally, but every day or 2 I lose the internet connection on it.  My cable modem (20Mb/s) shows a few blinks on the 'ethernet' & 'send' lights, but nothing on the receive light.  Renewing the ip in the linksys config pages kicks it into life again, and it's fine for another day or 2.  Anyone else seen similar behaviour?

Again, fidding around with the wireless settings is not going to make a blind bit of difference - the wireless remains working fine throughout.  The problem is with the connection from the router to the modem.  When that goes down, internet is obviously lost on wired & wireless, while connections behind the router (wired-to-wired, wired-to-wireless, wireless-to-wireless) all remain working fine.

  • EA3500 dropping internet connection every 2 minutes

Hello!  I've recently purchased the EA3500 dual band wireless-N router to replace my old and somewhat tired WRT54GS.  The old router worked, I just decided to upgrade to wireless-N since all of my devices are now capable.
My ISP is Comcast and I use a Motorola SB 6120 cable modem.
After an extremely easy setup of the new router last week, I experienced one full day of glorious speedier network and internet traffic.  However, roughly 24 hours after installation I started experiencing intermittetent internet connectivity issues.  As in - the cable modem is accessible for 2 minutes and then can't be found for 2 minutes, repeat forever.
After multiple different troubleshooting steps, including rebooting both the modem and the router together, separately, and releasing and renewing the router's IP Address through the router's admin page, I finally ended up resetting the router back to factory defaults and letting Windows 7 guide me through the re-installation rather than using the provided "easy setup" CD from Cisco.
This seemed to have helped, but 2 days later, my "every 2 minutes" issue returned.
Something important to note here is that all of my devices - both wired and wireless - are able to communicate with each other without issue.  For example - while I have no access to the cable modem, I am able to stream music from a wired desktop through a wireless laptop to a wireless receiver connected to my TV.  I am also able to access the router's admin tools during my connectivity issues.
Has anyone here got some ideas for additional troubleshooting steps I can take?

There are many reasons why you experience poor signal or connection. Your slow throughput wireless connection has a relation to the kind of setup that you have in your home or office. Is the connection dropping on all wireless-N computers or just one?
Try to do the following steps:
A] With the help of Cisco Connect Software (if at all you have installed the router with the help of this software)
1] Open the software and go to the option which says "Router Settings"
2] Then click on the option which says "Advanced Settings" which will take you to the router's configuration page.
3] Lower the MTU (Maximum Transmission Unit) from 1500 to 1492 or less (usually found on your routers main/ basic setup page)
B] If you haven't installed Cisco Connect then you can log on to the router's user interface using it's default IP address in the browser which is 192.168.1.1 and type in 'admin' as the password leaving the username field blank. This will take you to the router's web interface and then follow steps as mentioned above to make the changes.

  • Really annoying Internet Connection problem, please help!!!

At first my macbook ran perfectly, but about a month ago i started running into this problem. Everytime i boot my computer up at home it acts like im connected (bars...it even checks my email using gmail notifier which is running)...then after about 20 seconds or upon opening a browser it boots me off.
-if i use the pulldown menu to get my network it fails to connect, if i hit reconnect after that it fails to connect and i have to restart in order for it to work.
-the only way i can get it to work is from the pulldown go to "open internet connect" then from that pulldown select my network.
does anyone know what the problem is here? it is terribly annoying to to be able to just boot up and surf.
another, not terribly important question as i dont use windows much...if im using the mac side, then reboot onto windows my internet dies after about 2 minutes every time. If i just boot up windows without having been in mac first it doesn't do this. (and the only fix is to unplug and then plug back in the router).
    thanks for any help,
    Jeremy

I am seeing a similar problem at home.
We have two existing PowerBooks and an iMac G5 which all connect to my Airport Extreme basestation with no problems.
We just got a MacBook Pro which is having a lot of trouble staying on the airport wifi network. It keeps dropping off and when I attempt to reconnect, it gets an error doing that and offers to retry. The retry always fails.
This seems to happen if the MacBook is idle for a time and comes back up. I am running the airport environment as pure 802.11G only with WPA encryption. This feels like it is an issue with the wireless card in the MacBook Pro as our other machines in the exact same area do not have the problem.

  • I keep losing my Internet connection on my I mac osx 10.7.5 Wi fi and Ethernet. The only way to reconnect I'd renew dhcp but then it will disconnect again less then a minute

I keep losing my Internet on Wi fi and Ethernet, on Ethernet if I renew DHCP lease it will start again put within 20/30 seconds it disconnect again. My laptop , iPhone, iPad my other laptop all work with no problems, so it can't be the router any help please, my iMac is around 4 years old

Hi Ray, no idea what is mentioned in those other links, but...
this has worked for a few...
Make a New Location, Using network locations in Mac OS X ...
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2712
    10.7 & 10.8…
System Preferences>Network, top of window>Locations>Edit Locations, little plus icon, give it a name.
    10.5.x/10.6.x/10.7.x instructions...
System Preferences>Network, click on the little gear at the bottom next to the + & - icons, (unlock lock first if locked), choose Set Service Order.
The interface that connects to the Internet should be dragged to the top of the list.
Is that Interface dragged to the top of Network>Show:>Network Port Configurations.
Instead of joining your Network from the list, click the WiFi icon at the top, and click join other network. Fill in everything as needed.
For 10.5/10.6, System Preferences>Network, unlock the lock if need be, highlight the Interface you use to connect to Internet, click on the advanced button, click on the DNS tab, click on the little plus icon, then add these numbers...
    208.67.222.222
    208.67.220.220
    Click OK.

  • My time capsule runs very slowly and keeps disconnecting my internet connection, can anyone help me please?

Hello all I have recently pulled out my 3TB Time capsule and attempted to use it to back up my all Mac network, starting with just my desktop. I gave up on it before and started using Time Machine with WD EHD's which work fine. The reason that I gave up was that the Time Capsule kept freezing and hanging and I couldn't rely on it for a back up. I have reset it to factory settings and reconnected it as per the instructions, using it to extend my network, the hub is a BT infinity setup. Anyway it looks like it is going to run, then keeps shutting down my internet connection and I suspect it is taking longer to run the backup than it should. Has anyone else had this problem or can help please?

What model is the 3TB TC??
If the computer is using Yosemite the setup of the TC needs to be right. It can also be hardware issue if you are talking about the previous gen4.
Here is a list of things that can help with yosemite.
    Factory reset universal
Power off the TC.. ie pull the power cord or power off at the wall.. wait 10sec.. hold in the reset button.. be gentle.. power on again still holding in reset.. and keep holding it in for another 10sec. You may need some help as it is hard to both hold in reset and apply power. It will show success by rapidly blinking the front led. Release the reset.. and wait a couple of min for the TC to reset and come back with factory settings. If the front LED doesn’t blink rapidly you missed it and simply try again. The reset is fairly fragile in these.. press it so you feel it just click and no more.. I have seen people bend the lever or even break it. I use a toothpick as tool.
N.B. None of your files on the hard disk of the TC are deleted.. this simply clears out the router settings of the TC.
    Setup the TC again.
Then redo the setup from the computer with Yosemite.
    1. Use very short names.. NOT APPLE RECOMMENDED names. No spaces and pure alphanumerics.
eg TCgen5 for basestation and and TCwifi wireless name.
If the issue is wireless use TC24ghz and TC5ghz with fixed channels as this also seems to help stop the nonsense. But this can be tried in the second round. ie plan on a first and second round of changes to fix this.. hopefully.. I will point out other steps that can be round2.
    2. Use all passwords that also comply with 1. but can be a bit longer. ie 8-20 characters mixed case and numbers.. no non-alphanumerics.
    3. If the TC is main router you can skip this point. This is only an issue when the TC is bridged.
Ensure the TC always takes the same IP address.. you will need to do this on the main router using dhcp reservation.. or a bit more complex setup using static IP in the TC. But this is important.. having IP drift all over the place when Yosemite cannot remember its own name for 5 min after a reboot makes for poor networking.
    4. Check your share name on the computer is not changing.. make sure it also complies with the above.. short no spaces and pure alphanumeric.. but this change will mess up your TM backup.. so be prepared to do a new full backup. Sorry.. keep this one for second round if you want to avoid a new backup.
    5. Mount the TC disk in the computer manually.
In Finder, Go, Connect to server from the top menu,
Type in SMB://192.168.0.254 (or whatever the TC ip is which you have now made static. As a router by default it is 10.0.1.1 and I encourage people to stick with that unless you know what you are doing).
You can use name.. SMB://TCgen5.local where you replace TCgen5 with your TC name.. local is the default domain of the TC and doesn't change.
However names are not so easy as IP address.. nor as reliable. At least not in Yosemite they aren't. The domain can also be an issue if you are not plugged or wireless directly to the TC.
    6. Make sure IPv6 is set to link-local only in the computer. For example wireless open the network preferences, wireless and advanced / TCP/IP.. and fix the IPv6. to link-local only. Do the same for ethernet if you use it.
There is a lot more jiggery pokery you can try but the above is a good start.. if you find it still unreliable.. don't be surprised.
You might need to do some more work on the computer itself. eg Reset the PRAM.. has helped some people. Clean install of the OS is also helpful if you upgrade installed.
    Tell us how you go.
Someone posted a solution.. See this thread.
Macbook can't find Time Capsule anymore
Start from the bottom and work up.. I have a list of good network practice changes but I have avoided Yosemites bug heaven.
Yosemite has serious DNS bug in the networking application.. here is the lets say more arcane method of fixing it by doing a network transplant from mavericks.

  • NO INTERNET CONNECTION, SERIOUS! HELP PLEASE!

Ok, I have had the Linksys for about a month now and everything was fine. Then suddenly it started dropping the connections, and finally it just dropped. So, I was trying to re-connect and now I'm getting a "no internet connection" and I have no idea what to do !!

Please, someone help. Sometimes I get a "you have a static IP but no real connection", and sometimes my router is not supported.. and its always random. I'd really like to fix this as soon as possible, thanks. I know about the IP release/renew, but it isn't helping. And I checked my networking settings and it says my DSL modem can't get a TCP/IP established..? but when I connect directly to my computer, it's fine, but when I connect to the router.. says same thing but it works o.O. Such as "TCP/IP is not enabled to connect".
