Losing audio on burned discs

I made 11 movies in iMovie and transferred them into my iDVD project. Here are the details:
- "Shelves" theme in iDVD.
- 9 of the 11 movies are submenus from the main menu so they have their own menu page with audio and chapter breaks
- using iDVD & iMovie 6
- had to go to double layer setting because we had too much for single layer (total ~68 min)
- initially used widescreen setting for entire project in iDVD
Here's what happened and the results:
1. Finished setting up project in iDVD & burned disc. This disc worked perfectly on my computer, but when put on TV, the DVD title and the titles for the individual movies were off the screen because of the widescreen setting on a standard screen TV. All audio was intact.
2. Reformatted iDVD project for standard screen setting and burned another DVD. This disc still had titles that were slightly off the screen on the right, but more readable, but completely lost audio on two of the movies.
3. Reformatted iDVD project for widescreen setting, moved all titles more center so they would still show regardless of standard TV display, and burned another DVD. This disc had a perfect main menu, but we completely lost audio on half of the movies.
Ahhhhh! What am I doing wrong?
I'd just make duplicates of the first one (with all audio intact) if the menu was correct. (I have another machine which makes copies of DVDs and could probably do this just fine.) However, the menu is unreadable, and not everyone has a widescreen computer like I do, and some folks are going to want to watch this on their TVs.
This is for a Christmas gift to family members across the country and of all ages. We've got to get this to work and soon!
Please help if possible.

Hi
Two sources:
• iDVD and Your Mac
• Filetypes - I never use any other audio as .aiff 48Hz 16-bit
To first one:
Not knowing the origin to Your problem - General approach when in trouble is as follows:
• Free space on internal (start-up) hard disk if it is less than 10Gb should rather have 25Gb
• Hard disk is untidy: Repair Permissions, Repair Hard disk (Apple Disc Util tool)
• Delete iDVD pref file - *or rather start a new user/account* - log into this and re-try
• Program miss-match: iDVD 5.0.2, Mac OS X.4.11 AND QuickTime 7.4.1 - is OK - DON’T work under Leopard
• Program miss-match: iDVD 6.0.4, Mac OS X.4.11 AND QuickTime 7.4.1 - is OK (might work under Leopard)
• Program miss-match: iDVD’08 v. 7.0.1, Mac OS X.4.11 AND QuickTime 7.4.1 - is OK (might work under Leopard)
• iDVD (08) v7 Locate theme folder. Move out iDVD1, iDVD 2 and eventually iDVD4 folders to desktop - re-try
iDVD 6.0.4 and iDVD 7.0.1 are compatible with Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard
iDVD pref file resides: Mac Hard Disk (start-up HD)/Users/"Your account"/Library/Preferences
and is named: com.apple.iDVD.plist
While iDVD is NOT RUNNING - move this file out to desk-top.
Now restart iDVD.

  • No audio on burned disc

I made a presentation in Keynote and exported it as .mov quicktime movie with a track as background.
I've tried to burn it several times in Toast Titanium, but when I try to play it there's no audio..
    Can anyone help me?
    Thank you.

Ok.  This is embarrassing.  Just saw that the sound was turned down on my DVD player on my macbook though not on my computer.  Sometimes the simplest explanation is the best.

  • No audio on idvd burned disc- sound plays on TV fine but not on macbook DVD player

First time posting, so please excuse any naivete
Hi there, I'm having the opposite problem of many of the questions I've read on here- the audio on my burned disc won't play on my computer but is fine on my TV.  I am running the latest version of idvd on a 2008 macbook. The music for the menu is a .m4a file (?) imported from itunes and the movie is an imported project from imovie.  Both play fine in idvd preview and I have burned discs of this project before with no problems.  This time  I burned one disc through idvd, discovered the missing audio, deleted the encoded assets and re- encoded before  saving the disk image and burning another dvd through disk utility. Both dvds are having this problem .  I checked sound on my system preferences, it's on- though I can't find the "main audio" that was mentioned in another thread.  Maybe I don't have enough space on my startup disk?  I've been trashing some things to free up space, but I'm not sure where to check to see how much space I have.
I'm sending these dvds out as part of job applications so they need to be able to play right on whatever the reviewer uses (mac, pc, tv etc.)- is there a way to ensure it will work universally?
    Thanks!

  • Skipped audio files when burning disc in iDVD.

I burned a DVD using iDVD version 7.0. The audio files sound perfect on the computer but on the disc there are skipped areas noted in three different audio files. I did try different discs and burned discs on both my laptop and my desktop. I have used this program before but never encountered this problem.  Any tips? Thanks

    Hi
    My notes on this.
    No audio on DVD disc.
    Most common origin.
    1. Imported audio from iTunes.
    • In iTunes copy out as an Audio-CD .aiff (Same as played on standard Stereo CD - no .mp3)
    • Use this in Your movie project
    2. Low - Free Space on Start-up/Boot/Internal/Mac OS Hard disk makes it hard for iMovie to work as intended.
Down to 1.3 GB and it doesn’t work - especially audio don’t migrate over to Media Browser
    (iM’08 & 09)
    3. Material in iMovie’08 & 09 - Shared to Media Browser and here selected as Large
large.m4v. It silenced out this project in iDVD. By making a slight alteration - provoking it to ask for a new Share/Publish to Media Browser and here selecting 640x480 - and audio was back when a new iDVD project was created including this movie.
    Minuscular - - 176x144
    Mobile - - - - - 480x360
    Medium - - - - 640x480
    Large - - - - - - 720x540    960x540
    HD - - - - - - - - 1280x720
    4. Strange audio formats like .mp3, .avi etc.
    • Change them to .aiff. Use an audio editor like Audacity (free)
    5. Main audio is set to off in System Preferences - Does this by it self - Don’t know why
    Cheque Audio-Out resp. Audio-In
    6. Ed Hanna
Had the same problem; some Googling around gave me a kludgy, but effective fix
Downgrade Perian from recent versions back to version 1.0.
That worked for me, and so far I haven't encountered any deficiencies — except it takes more advanced versions of Perian to enable QuickTime to handle subtitles in .srt format — that I have noticed.
    7. GarageBand fix.
In this set audio to 44.1 kHz (Klaus1 suggestion)
(if this don’t work try 48 kHz - me guessing)
    Before burning the DVD.
    • Do a DiskImage (File menu and down)
    • Double click on the .img file
    • Test it with Apple DVD-player
If it’s OK then make Your DVD.
Burn at x1 speed.... (or x4)
    • In iDVD 08 - or - 09
    • Burn from DiskImage with Apple’s Disk Utilities application
    • OR burn with Roxio Toast™ if You got it

  • I've created a slide program complete with titles and sound. Works well in the preview, but the burned disc has neither the titles or the audio. Any help?

We've constructed a slide show of our recent Hawaiian trip, including tltles on the pix and accompanying music. When played on the IDVD preview, it works perfectly, but the burned disc has  no titles or sound. What are we doing wrong?

    Hi
And if You "Save as a DiskImage" - How does this play ?

  • "The attempt to burn disc failed."

    Hi,
I have an older MBP, from July of the first year they were sold...2006? Can't remember. Anyway. I am running tiger still and everything is up to date. 10.4.11, iTunes 7.6 etc etc....
Anyway. My problem is, I can't get anything to burn!! Extended hardware test does not reveal any problems...
    Here is what is happening..
I want to burn music so that I can play it in my car. I had a stack of 2 year old Sony CD-R's that I was using and they were perfectly, except I ran out of them. So I bought the same exact thing again...and iTunes spits out the cd and says "The attempt to burn disc failed. The burn failed because of a medium write error." Ok so I tried another disc. Same issue. Then I went and took one of my brothers 2 year old Sony CD-Rs and it worked perfectly. So I exchanged my new stack of cds for the same thing, same issue and returned them.
Since then I have burned a couple of movie DVDs on Sony DVD-Rs and they work fine. I have even burned data DVDs on Playo DVD-Rs.
This evening I purchased a stack of HP Music CD-Rs and guess what! My computer spit them out and said the same exact error message!!!
    Does anyone have any suggestions?
    Is it a Tiger issue?
It can't be hardware related because I have proven it can burn with no problem (just on older cds). Is it maybe a cd issue? Are newer cds somehow formated in a different way that will not work with my combination of hardware and software?
Maybe I should just spend the $300 and get an ipod adapter installed in my car...
    Thanks
    Adam

    Hi ASal,
If your Optical drive is reading correctly then the report suggests that there is already data on that disc and it cannot be written to again. Needless to say, only a CD/RW can be burned to more than once. Your info suggests that it is definitely a CD-R.
Double click your disc mounted on the desktop and see if there is any data on it. If there is then you cannot burn to it again. (Not without burning the data in "Sessions."-- A CD-R can have multiple burns in different sessions, but it cannot write over the top of already existing data. You will need a CD/RW if you wish to be able to completely erase and write again. See how you go. Hope this helps.
It appears that your profiler is well able to SEE the CD-R, but you still might have CD Burn issues. Have you tried just burning data to a CD-R through the Finder to see if burns successfully..? If it does, then you should be able to burn audio through iTunes too. Make sure youre not trying to fit too much data on the disc too. That is a common error with people...
Make sure the discs you are using are completely blank.
    Regards,
    Ben.

  • Mac computer won't read burned discs, need help...

    Heya,
So I'm not sure when this started happening exactly, but my Mac stopped being able to read burned discs for some reason. I've tried discs that have audio (legal MP3's) and applications on them (also legal copies of the discs) and they show up in finder but as a blank disc. I'm wondering if there was an update of some sort recently that started causing this issue somehow? Can someone help? Thanks!

    Related Problem?
I have had my MacPro for more than a year, just updated to OSX 10.6.4
I have not been able to play a particular, commercially bought DVD. No clue about the format of it. It comes up as Untitled. My MacPro has worked OK with other video DVDs and a bunch of install discs. I just discovered this new DVD player problem today, with this new DVD just bought through snail mail.
However, this same new commercially recorded DVD plays beautifully on my old 17" powerbook bought brand-new in 2006, today running OSX 10.4.11
It is sad so many bloat features seem to cloud real needs of working people, or what else could it be? My system has had some other livable problems like the fact i had to trash the much needed OSX Dictionary Application, because it started opening up a window for every word i already looked up-- This problem seems to be due to Migrtation Assitant picking up some weird police state aps or what not. It is hard to live without Migration Assistant because aps like CS4 are so hard to get running on a new system. So grin and bear it.

  • Problems burning disc on mac

I bought some 700mb, 80 minute empty discs to create a playlist for a friend, first off, I inserted the disc and highlighted all the songs I wanted in iTunes (31) and dragged them onto the disk, It then bought up a window for the disk with all the songs in place, and in the order I wanted them in. So I went ahead and pressed burn disc and it done so, I then put it in a cd player to test it, where I discovered there were only 28 of the 31 songs I chose, and they were not in the order I put them in by, frustrated I took another CD and tried a different method, burning the disc direct from the playlist on iTunes. Here it did not allow me to burn as many, only 22 intact, but I did so anyway, and had the same problem, only 18 of 22 were on the disc and they were muddled again, is there anyway to resolve this to get as many songs as possible and make sure they all go on, and in order!? thanks

Put the songs you want into a regular iTunes playlist, in the order you want them.
Make sure the play time is comfortably under 80 minutes.  Aim for 75 minutes or less.
Make sure all the files are accessible on your hard drive and are playable.  Not missing, and not in the cloud.
Then do the burn, setting disc format to "audio CD."

  • 8.2.1 Not able to burn disc.

Since the most recent upgrade I'm unable to burn disc. I've done this before many times and have never had problems, nevertheless I followed these instructions after the first attempt failed http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2239
    Nothing happens after step 16.
Prior to upgrade I could watch in the "Window Player" what song the system was burning, also the check marks would change to completed status. Now it just sits there with a "Player Window" that reads "Burning Disc ... finishing."
After 3 hours, I clicked the "x" in the window. It then gave a pop-up, "If you stop this disc burn, your disc will not be usable. Are you sure you want to stop?" I clicked yes.
Window reads "Canceling disc burn... this may take a minute or two" after displaying this for an hour, I had to complete a "Forced Quit" on Itunes, though itunes was responding.
I've gone thru this process three times, and all 3 disc are unusable with 0 tracks.
I'm trying to burn 15 songs I purchased today from Itunes with at total time of 1:08:04, 136MB min onto a CD-R 700MB/80MIN disc.
    Anyone have a solution? Thanks.

I too am experiencing the same problems as mentioned above but I now am receiving a disc error message of "The attempt to burn a disc failed. The device failed to calibrate the laser power level for this media." This now happens whether I try to burn a Cd or try to back-up my purchases.
I have tried to burn a disc via finder first using a Itunes song file and second an Iphoto Jpeg. After both attempts I received this error code: 0x800Z006D I have not been able to find this error code.
Next I tried to put a DVD movie as well as an Apple install disc in my Superdrive. Both times the disc was spat out w/o reading. This also happens if I put in an audio CD. I've tried to install a laser lens cleaner, but this too was spat out.
Enter Utilities and clicked on Console and after I tried to load a DVD movie this message showed up in Console:
+2009-07-31 10:21:20.908 DiskImages UI Agent[252] Could not find image named 'background'.+

I am now on 8.2.1(6) after having burn issues with 8.1
I am lost. Is this a hardware, program, driver issue?

  • Audio CD Burning

Can someone help me with burning a disc. I can't believe how much of a pain this is to do. With windows media player I simply place the files in the burn list and it converts with mp3 to audio cd and burns it but with mac it can't seem to perform such a simple operation, why?

*I simply place the files in the burn list and it converts with mp3 to audio cd and burns it but with mac it can't seem to perform such a simple operation, why?*
That is substantially the same as iTunes. Create a playlist, drag the songs you want to burn to CD, press the Burn Disc button down in the right hand corner. What part of the process isn't working for you?
If you have updated to iTunes 8, the burning options are no longer a global setting in Preferences>Advanced>Burning (which is where you'll find them if you are using iTunes 7). In iTunes 8 you get the burning options for each individual disc and they don't appear until you insert a blank CD, highlight the playlist you want to burn and press the Burn Disc button. In the settings box choose Audio CD.

  • Can't burn Disc from iTunes after Microsoft fix

Okay ... long process to get iTunes working and I am almost there. Here is the saga ...
I upgraded to iTunes 6.0 and after the upgrade neither of my CD/DVD drives would work. After surfing the internet, I found the solution on Microsoft.com, which was to delete some specific upper and lower filters from the registry and then reboot the computer. I did this and everything worked great. I was able to use iTunes and both my CD/DVD drives worked. But now .... I cannot burn any discs from iTunes, (I can burn from other places), it says,"cannot find recording disc" It will let me upload CDs into iTunes. Here is my CD diagnostics:
Microsoft Windows XP Professional Service Pack 2 (Build 2600)
Dell Computer Corporation Precision WorkStation 350
    iTunes 6.0.4.2

Failed loading CD / DVD drives, error -43. Try doing a repair install on iTunes from the "Add or Remove Programs" control panel.
The last failed audio CD burn had error code -128(0xffffff80). It happened on drive on -128(0xffffff80) media at speed 0X.

    hi TwinMom!
hmmmm. was this the solution you used?
(MS) CD-ROM access is missing and messages cite error Code 31, Code 32, Code 19, Code 39, or Code 41 after you remove Easy CD Creator in Windows XP
i've seen a few follow up problems after applying that technique ... but usually they tend to involve this error message:
"Warning! The registry settings used by the iTunes drivers for importing and burning CDs & DVDs are missing. This can happen as a result of installing other CD burning software. Please reinstall iTunes."
what you're getting is still consistent with that (in a sense), because you don't have any itunes-related filter entries showing up in your diagnostics.
so, let's start trying some techniques that have a reasonable track record against that error -43 that's showing up in your CD diagnostics.
first, try a reboot and repair. reboot the PC (very important), and then do a repair install of itunes. go to your Add/Remove programs, select itunes, click "change/remove" and then select "repair".
does that get rid of the -43?
can you burn a CD after doing that?
    love, b
