Losing audio sync?

When I import my clips to iMovie the sound track loses sync with the picture.
Often it starts off OK but loses it in the middle of the clip and then catches up again at the end.
Does anyone know how to stop this happening?

For whatever it is worth, I personally have never experiences audio sync issues when importing or playing back within iMovie. My audio sync problems have always been when going to iDVD or when exporting back to digital tape. In those cases, I have always been able to fix the issue by selecting the entire movie and using the extract Audio command right before going to iDVD or back to tape.

  • PAL to NTSC - losing audio sync

    hi
i have been using nattress standards conversion to convert a 6min DV PAL Video to NTSC.
it works fine, besides the audio which went out of sync.
i have tried re-converting to original video to NTSC with the "sync to external audio" but the results are the same.
am i doing something wrong or is it always like that ?
is there a way to do it (in compressor ???) without losing to sync ?
    thanx

One of the reasons I can't use the Nattress system is because I can't get the audio to sync - despite using "sync to external audio" as you found.
As Silal pointed out, a great way (high quality / hassle-free) to convert PAL to NTSC (although it takes a lot longer than Nattress) is the Hanumang method listed on Silal's link.

    Nir:
I learned this Compressor settings for standard conversion in previous threads:
"Load your DV PAL movie into Compressor 2, then choose
Advanced Format Conversions > DV NTSC from the settings.
Then, under the Frame Controls tab, alter your settings to:
    Frame Controls: Custom
    Resize Filter: Better (Linear Filter)
    Output Fields: Bottom First
    Deinterlace: Better Motion Adaptive
    Adaptive Details: checked
    Rate Conversion: Better (Motion Compensated)"
Export your NTSC timeline as Quicktime Movie self contained and use the preset (it takes long but great results).
It seems to be from Hanumang and was posted by Andynick. Thanks both !

  • Problems with Audio Sync and Rendering

In both problems what happens is NOT consistent. If were, would think was a setting or something I was doing wrong.
About the rendering problem. I capture either through FCP Log and Capture or through my analog to digital "box", Formac Studio TVR. In both cases record in DV setting. When I then Import these files about 3 out of 4 times they need full rendering. But doing all things the same, there is that 1 out of 4th time where no rendering is needed at all. Does not seem to matter whether I capture through FCP or Foremac. Results seem the same. Like I said to begin with, if was consistent would figure that is just how the program is. But due to the time it takes to do a render, sure would be nice if could be avoided some way.
Regarding the Audio Sync. At times, maybe 1 out 10 times, the audio is bad. It begins at the beginning of the film being out of sync maybe two or three frames. But then every 10 minutes of film it progressively get's worse, losing a good 6 to 10 frames as one goes. I can fix by doing a lot of cutting and then moving the film around till it is in sync again, but as you can imagine takes a LOT of extra work. Any ideas as to why this is happening and what could be done to prevent in future??
Thanks in advance for any help you can provide.

I've used flip4mac for about a year and have had no problems with it. I mostly use it to export preview versions for windoze people. The quality is very good, though it takes significantly longer to export than a similar-quality quicktime movie.

  • Split clips in Final Cut Pro X are losing audio

So I am new to final cut and on my maiden voyage I came across an interesting problem:
Whenever I use the blade tool to split my clips I am losing audio on the rest of the clip. I am using footage uploaded from a P2 card. The raw footage has audio and I only lose it on the right side of wherever I use the tool. Anyone heard of this and know of a solution?

Thanks Tom, I may have partially figured this out...I just inserted a transition...and all of the video/audio went out of sync from that point on (in that clip). So, if I just don't use transitions, I'm OK...NOT! Let me see if I can get a screenshot.

The project label now carries signal with yellow triangled exclamation “i tunes out of date”.
To solve the sync problem I’m following advice and detaching sound from all of the 100 or so short clips.  This operation has been stalled by the spinning ball. Shut down restart has not helped.
The Project is mounted from Iomega and superspeed ext hd connected to imovie09 on macosx 10.5.8.
What to do to resume repairs to the audio sync problem and so successfully share for youtube upload?

  • HP Mediasmart TV recordings lose audio sync

I have a HP Dv5 1235dx laptop and I am using a Kworld UB435-Q usb tv tuner stick to watch and record free over-the-air hdtv.
My issue is that when I record a program with HP Mediasmart TV the audio loses sync with the video. It starts out ok, but gradually goes out of sync the longer you record, so that by the end of an hour long show the audio is about 2 seconds off which is extremely distracting bordering on unwatchable. I can record programs with Windows Media Center and it has no audio sync problems, but WMC doesn't pick up all the channels and doesn't have as nice of an interface and program guide as HP Mediasmart TV.
Does anyone else have this issue, or know of a fix for this? I've also noticed that the recording quality options are greyed out in the settings menu, so its not like I can even try a lower quality setting to see if it makes a difference.

I just discovered the same problem.
I have an HP dv8t running Win 7 64-bit.  Last night I recorded about 2 hours  of a football game.  When I watched it later the video and audio gradually moved farther & farther out of sync.  On a football game, you rarely see people's lips when they are talking anyway.  It did seem like the announcers were slow to react, though!  If it was a regular TV show or a movie, I could not have watched it at all.
Another strange occurrence -- I first replayed the recorded video in HP's Mediasmart player.  After about 45 min. the video started getting choppy.  The audio remained smooth, but it seemed like the video was dropping frames.  It got worse and worse until we were seeing 1 second (or more) jumps in video.  I shut down HP's player and opened the video in Windows Media Player.  It played fine -- at least the video did not skip.  The audio was still out of sync by a second or two.

  • Audio sync problem with videos imported from iPod Touch

I have an iPod Touch 4th Generation that I used to shoot video at a family birthday party. When I imported the footage into iMovie '11, the audio is not in sync with the video (video is about two seconds behind audio) and there is only the left channel of audio. I verified that the video on the iPod plays just fine--no audio sync problem, both left and right channels work. I just upgraded to iOS 5 on the iPod Touch. The iMac is running Snow Leopard 10.6.8.
As a workaround, I can import the video into iPhoto instead. When I play the video in iPhoto, there are no audio sync problems and both channels of audio can be heard. I have imported other iPod Touch videos successfully into iMovie '11 in the past few months, but this has been the first time these problems have occurred. Any help would be appreciated.

Premiere cannot handle clips with variable framerate.
Your converted clips need to have constant framerate.
Otherwise use a converter like Handbrake.

Maybe other maverics users are experiencing the same problem. It happens 3 or 4 times that maverics shown no audo device available.

  • Unable to Switch Audio Sync Settings

    Hey everyone,
I'm trying to create an animation based off of a 5-minute mp3 audio recording. I need to be able to switch my audio sync settings to Stream so that I can preview audio anywhere in my animation. Currently if I press play just anywhere in the animation it doesn't play the audio. I have to play from the beginning to hear.
After doing some searching on the Internet, I figured out I have to switch my audio sync setting to Stream so that I can play audio anywhere in the timeline. However, the only option I have available is Event. The other ones are greyed out, as the screenshots below testify. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!
    Hardware and Software Statistics:
Adobe Flash Professional CC (CS6) - Version 13.1.0.226
    Windows 7 Home Premium - Version 6.1 - Build 7601: Service Pack 1
Intel Core i7, 4GB RAM, NVIDIA GeForce GT 525M

The first the thing a person should always do when they encounter a problem is restart their computer. No worries, I did that.
I tried converting the file to OGG and WAV to see if it would work better. Apparently Flash Professional handles WAV fine, allowing me to switch between Stream and Event audio sync settings. That's kind of strange, because WAV files are so huge and aren't practical when developing a game or something like that.
Thankfully, I'm just using Flash Professional to export a video, so I don't care about file size, but it's a disturbing bug.
If anyone knows why I was unable to switch to Stream audio sync settings with MP3 files, please speak up.

  • Audio sync different between QuickTime and Windows Media Player

I've run into a new problem I've never encountered before. When playing a video on QuickTime on a Windows PC, the audio is in perfect sync. However, when I play the same QT video on Windows Media Player, the audio is out of sync by as much as three seconds. The Windows software is current. The source content is created using ProTools 10 on a Mac running Yosemite, from an original QT mp4 converted to a .mov via quicktime for import into ProTools. The output was a standard .mov. I also tried converting it to an mp4 via QT, but the result was the same.
This is a pretty alarming discovery as I now have to test any videos bounced from ProTools on a PC Windows Media Player to make sure someone doesn't view it this way, with the audio sync appearing incorrectly.
Anybody know why this happened? Or how to prevent it in the future?

you can buy and use the WMV Studio windows media export components from Flip4Mac which wil allow you to export to a windows media format directly from FCP and other suitable QT compliant apps ...
or you can copy the file over onto your own quicktime enabled PC and use the free, and much faster, windows media encoder there.

  • Having trouble with Audio Sync in FCExpress

Hello, everyone...a question for the board.
I recently acquired a new iMac with Final Cut Express...planning to try some video editing at home.
I haven't been successful with the proper configuration for captured video, however...using a Sony TRV-900 as my source, video feeding in via firewire 800 (I bought a 400/800 adapter to make it work), and ingesting using NTSC Basic...however, my audio is still not in sync with the video--the video is always ahead, and it jumps further ahead the more I ingest.
Is there some configuration I need to use so that the audio syncs correctly? Is it, as I suspect, a drop-frame issue that I haven't set up correctly?
Any help you could throw my way would be very much appreciated.

I realize that most DV cameras will record in 32 and 48 sampling rates. What I'm trying to get you to do is see what you've ALREADY recorded.
Open one of the captured clips in QuickTime, then hit Command j to see the movie properties. Or in FCP, right-click on a captured clip and choose Item Properties to see what audio you are trying to capture. Once you know that, create a Sequence with those settings, then capture any remaining footage with those settings. If needed, recapture any footage that was previously captured using the wrong settings.

  • Is the audio sync bug (related to custom clip speeds) still present in iMovie 11?

Is the audio sync bug (related to custom clip speeds) still present in iMovie 11? I encountered it in 09 and was wondering if it was fixed in the latest version.

  • Major "BUG" in Imovie 9 - Audio Sync Problem on Export  !

Well I'm a hard-core Apple user from day one, but unfortunately today I'm not to proud about the latest version of Imovie 9.
It seems there has been a "MAJOR audio sync problem on export" in Imovie 9, since July 2009. Apple knows about this bug for a long time now, but didn't release any bugfix yet!
    Here's what it's all about:
It seems if you use the (custom /manual) speed-adjustments and not the preset slider speeds, you will experience (after exporting your movie) annoying bursts of audio from clips that had been set to mude. The strange thing is that you will only experience this audio-bug after exporting, you will NOT experience it in the project playback mode!
    Here's what you can do:
Find ALL the clips in your Project that are Speed Adjusted.
Instead of using a "Custom Speed" percentage, use any of the "Preset Speeds"
    Preset Speeds on the Slider = 12.5%, 25%, 50%, 100%, 200%, 400%, 800%
Then, export your project as usual.
    No more sync issues.
Really hope That Apple will come up with a real BUGFIX soon.
It's a shame that a major bug in a otherwise GREAT PRODUCT, hasen't been fixed yet!
What's wrong with Apple?...this is not one of their finest hours.
Still A BIG fan from Imovie HD,...I'll chance to Imovie 9 when the bugs are finaly fixed!

This is TERRIBLE! I have spent so much time working on this project, and I really don't want to adjust the speed settings to the preset levels, BECAUSE I need to motion of the video to match certain musical points. I can't re-film my video, and I needed this project done TODAY. I made a music video with some kids at summer camp, and today is the last day- the day we were supposed to all watch it together, and now, I've got NOTHING!!!! (Because I can't export it without all those glitches!)
I am MAJORLY DISAPPOINTED on this one. I've made movies in windows movie maker before, and purposely used imovie, because you know, everything on macs is supposed to be better. Well, I guess I was wrong.

  • Jittery HD Video in CS4 After Updates - Audio Sync Before Updates

I just got a new laptop, an Asus G73JW. I loaded up my Adobe Production Premium CS4 suite, opened a project in HDV 1080i setting, but the audio was out of sync. I checked it in WMP and it appeared fine. I did the Adobe updates and the audio sync issue was fixed, unfortunately, the video is now jittery and looks horrible. I would much rather have audio sync issues, as least I can fix that, even if tedious.
I am running Windows 7 64 bit OS and all updates are done in both Win 7 and Adobe. I captured the HDV in HDV Split and they are .m2t files.
Any ideas what the jittery video issues are? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
    Thank you in advance,
    Aaron

Well this is ebarassing, but it works fine now after a reboot. I just had the OS reinstalled after corruption issues in the original install. I forgot to turn Windows auto update off this time and I didn't realize that Windows was updating in the background as I was working. It is turned off now, and I went through my settings more carefully.
I am editing HD with my new laptop now with no isues and it works great.
Sorry for he false alarm, and thank you for the help Bill.
