Losing Audio when converting videos to work on IPOD

Hello,
I have loads of small home videos I took using a pretty basic Hewlet Packard Camera. They are just MPG files and when I dragged them over into ITUNES then tried to sync them into my IPOD it did'nt work.
I followed the instructions and used the option in the advanced settings to convert them into an IPOD version which seemed to work. However when I sync'd then over to my IPOD they transferred across and look fine but have no audio.
Does anyone know if it's possible to sort this or are the video clips just not completely compatible.
Thanks
Craig.

Try using MPEG Streamclip to convert the videos; more information on this issue is available in this article.

  • No Audio When Converting Videos For iPod

whenever i convert video files for my ipod they do not have audio. i have tried several programs, and none work. i have read other discussions about this, and found that MPEG Streamclip worked for other people, however whenever i try to convert using this program, it says "Error: Can't Prepare The Movie" Can anyone tell my why i can't convert these videos? i cannot figure it out. thanks alot.

I am not sure what you mean when you ask what the "compression formats" are.The compression formet refers the manner in which the media was encoded and, by extension, how the media must be decoded. I.e., it determines which codec (encoder/decoder or compressor/decompressor) is to be used with the media file.
If you can tell me where to find those i could tell you what they are. I can, however, play the video in itunes, quicktime, and MPEG Streamclip.Simnce the files are playable in QT, the most common place to look for codec information is in the "Show Movie Info" window following the "Format:" entry. E.g., it might say:
    Format: MPEG2 muxed, 640 x 480orFormat: Apple MPEG4 Decompressor, 320 x 240, millions
    AAC, Stereo, 48,000 kHz
i also am not sure if there is audio in the source file.Do you hear any audio when the original file is played? If not and there is no audio track (or "muxed") information, then there may not be any sound for you to convert in the first place.
how do i find out if it is muxed? If it is "muxed," the format entry we say so. In this case blocks of audio data and blockes of video data are interspersed in a single data stream (track). This is the normal way MPEG-1 and MPEG-2 audio/video data is synchronized. In addition, these formats commonly lose their audio content when converted using QT Pro, iTunes, iMovie, FCE, FCP, or other QT based "frame-to-frame" synchronized workflow. (In the case of MPEG-2 in MPEG Streamclip or QT, the QT MPEG-2 component must also be installed in order to convert the video data alone.)
most of my videos that won't convert for an ipod are downloaded from the internet. how can i find out if they are corrupted or incomplete?Internet files should always be considered suspect -- especially if they come from a peer-to-peer source. Messages that indicated QT cannot open an otherwise fully compatible QT format is often the best indication that there is a corruption problem or that the files were improperly closed at one point or another.
most of my videos that won't convert for an ipod are downloaded from the internet. how can i find out if they are corrupted or incomplete?Normally ypu would post them to a web site or FTP storage area and post the URL. If files were downloadedd from a particular web site (e.g., a QT movie trailer), simply post the URL for the particular web page.

  • No audio when converting video for ipod 3rd generation

I read a thread that had not be answered regarding video to ipod that ends up with no sound. I wonder if anyone has found the answer to the problem. I have converted movies from imovie 08 and had no problems with sound but when I tried to convert a downloaded music video I only get the video and no sound.
Anyone have the answer to that one?
    Thanks
    Kevin

QuickTime expects video files with separate video and audio tracks, but many MPEG formats used a muxed (multiplexed) single track that contains both. Therefore, when you convert videos in iTunes to iPod format they only show the video and no sound since iTunes (really QuickTime) is not looking for the audio track within the video track and it gets lost.

  • NO AUDIO WHEN CONVERTING VIDEO TO IPOD FORMAT

This is really ******* me off. My .mov's are being converted via QTPro to mV4 with no audio. Why does this have to be so f*ing difficult? How can I extract the audio and re-sync it to the video? I have a powerbook and have finalcut and logic express.

There's no problem converting to an actual file that iPod plays, it just doesn't add the audio to the new file. I hear that you have to have the video and audio file with some .movs (possibly with old codecs??) before you convert them to ipod format. So, I have to extract the audio from the .mov (probably with final cut) and then import the video along with the audio back into final cut and then convert to the m4v.
I just don't know why this process is so difficult, there should be a program that extracts the audio with video to the correct format. I've tried every program and with final cut so far and none of them add the audio to the final video.

  • Missing Audio when Converting from MPEG1 Muxed to Ipod using QT Pro 7

I just got my video iPod over Christmas. After reading up on QT Pro 7, I purchased it over the weekend, and have attempted unsuccessfully the past two nights to convert home videos (taken with my Sony digital camera) to iPod format. My home movies play fine when I open them in Quicktime; however, when I export to the iPod format (and also when I export to mpeg4 format), I only get the video and not the audio.
I've confirmed that my key for QT Pro 7 is successfully loaded, so that's not the issue.
I've also confirmed that the format of the original video taken from my camera is "MPEG1 Muxed". Several internet discussion boards seem to indicate that missing audio is a common problem for people using Sony cameras and Quicktime. If this is the case, I'd prefer to simply refund my money and buy one of the other video to iPod converters available on the web.
So, either help me solve this problem, or help me get a refund. I'm fine either way.

  • Converting Videos to Work on iPod

I loaded some videos into my library, right clicked them and selected to "convert for iPod", it did... something. I thought it had converted them so they would work and play, or show at all, on my iPod. They are not still. I'm at a total loss what to do?! Can anyone reccommend a third party software so I can convert the files themselves into .mov or .mp4? Thanks.

Since you have not provied specific information regarding your particular problem, there are two possibilities. The first is that your source files are not QT compatible and the second is that the content of your files are too complex to be handled in their current form.
iTunes conversions are based on "frame-to-frame" sync QT routines. "Muxed" formats (e.g., MPEG1, MPEG2, VOB, some AVI, MJPEG, etc.) use blocks of audio data interspersed with blocks of video data to maintain A/V synchronization. Therefore, the iTunes converter will only correctly convert non-muxed, QT compatible files.
Then too the iTunes converter employs a highly efficient but very complex multi-pass H.264/AAC codec which can be very content sensitive. Brightnes, contrast, saturation, and the amount/frequency of action sequences can all effect conversions. Older movies and videos can be particularly troublesome. In this case, switching to a single-pass conversion can fix the problem. In more severe cases, use of software filters can alleviate the problem.

  • No audio when recording video iPhone 6 (4.7in)

I just got my 6 and love it, but I have noticed that I have ZERO audio when recording video, but rather some feedback.
I have tried rebooting and powering off/on. Nothing has worked.
Any help would be very much appreciated. I hope my phone doesn't have an issue.
    Thanks,
    Geoff

Nevermind, I had the back covered. Silly me to think it used the same microphone on the bottom of the phone..

  • Iphone 5S IOS8 - quality of  audio when taking video?

The biggest disappointment with the 5S was the TERRIBLY distorted audio when taking videos of live music or loud events.  The 4S didn't feature the front mic and therefor sound was passing by perpendicular to the mic and it would not be as "hot" of a signal.
I have not one but two external mice I use when I plan*** on taking video but living in a city with tons of music I am not always prepared with an external mic.  Taking video with IOS7 with the 5S is useless if the audio source is above 85db or so.
Can anyone who has upgraded IOS on the 5S confirm that they have corrected the software for the mic sensitivity for a 5S?  My buddy has the 6 and his live videos of music do NOT distort.
    Thanks!

    Hello AudioArchist,
Does the issue of recording videos still not get any sounds? If so, take a look at the article below to troubleshoot the issue further. Now it may be hard to give the exact reason why that happened, but the article should assist with getting it fixed.

  • Got problems when converting video to 640*480 m4v

guys, I got compatibility issues when convert videos to 640*480 h264 m4v.
I tried MepgStreamclip, and the export to mp4 quicktime mov in Quicktime. ALL FAILED.
I followed all these 1.5mbps, 640*480, aac-lc requirements when did the conversion. However, my ipod will not recognize of the files.
I have also noticed that the "Export to Ipod" preset in Quicktime has been changed to 640*480. BUT, what keeps annoying me is the preset is so idiotic!! It ignores the source bps and simply converts everything to 1.5mbps. I got 25mb file after conversion as the source file is 11mb.
Could anyone kindly point out the Right procedure to convert video to ipod format Manually...... I want to have full control when I am doing this.
    thanks a lot

    any suggestions?

  • Does iTunes normalize audio when converting to AAC?

Most of my mp3s are not normalized. I want to normalize these tracks before converting them to AAC. Does iTunes normalize audio when converting to AAC? Or do i need to normalize my mp3s first, then convert them to AAC? Thanks!

What exactly do you mean by "normalize"? Do you mean leveling the volume?
iTunes uses the soundcheck feature to do this. It doesn't automatically happen when you convert a song to a different file type.
Apply it in iTunes using the edit/preferences/playback menu (Windows).
Turn it on on the iPod using the settings/soundcheck/on menu.
After applying it in iTunes, sync your iPod to reflect the changes made.
There are 3rd party programs that do this more effectively (at least in my opinion).
    For Windows there is mp3Gain/aacGain.

  • What am I doing wrong when transfering videos from itunes to iPod?

This is the message I am getting:
SOME OF THE VIDEOS IN YOUR ITUNES LIBRARY, INCLUDING THE VIDEO..., WERE NOT COPIED TO THE IPOD BECAUSE CANNOT BE PLAYED ON THIS IPOD.
I don't think I am doing anything wrong because I have used the same process for other videos and they play perfect.
These are the steps I take to tranfer my videos:
    1. Convert videos using VIDEORA iPod Converter
    2. Play the viedo on iTunes to make sure it was converted right.
    3. Update my iPod.

"the converted video plays, but without sound. it is the same on itunes and on the pod"

  • No audio when converting ipod videos

    Hello Apple,
When I try to convert my video for Ipod use, I can see the video, once converted but I don't get any audio!!!
What can i do to resolve the problem?
    Thanks for your help,
    Daniel
    hp   Windows XP Pro

Multiplexed video ("muxed" where the video and audio is combined on one track) cannot be converted for use on the iPod by using either iTunes or Quicktime. As you have found, if you do this, there is no audio track.
You must use a 3rd party converter.
I have used MPEG Streamclip with good results (albeit on a Mac). There is a Windows version.

  • No Audio When using Video Out to Firewire

I do not get any audio when I use Firewire ntsc as my video out. When I set video out to canvas playback then I get audio. I want to use print to video but I cannot because the audio will not work with Firewire. I get the image on my external monitor but not the audio. I checked to make sure and the audio was not on the recorded dvd. I cannot not use print to video with canvas playback.
My Easy Setup is Format: NTSC, Use DV NTSC DV Converter. I tried using Firewire basic and got the same results.
    Please Help
    Ken

The audio does not play at all from the timeline if video out is set to Firewire. To answer your question, no the audio does not play in the external monitor when playing back from the timeline when Canvas is used as the video out. However, I don't believe the converter box is the problem. The audio would play in the internal speakers when using firewire as video out but it does not.
Is there a problem with FCE 4?
