Exporting to quicktime works great on my machine. It plays fine and has audio when I open the quicktime file. When I email it to others, they dont get the sound. Am I doing something wrong when saving.

No, but it's creating two files, one video file and a separate soundtrack movie file. You have to send BOTH of those for them to view it properly on the other end.
If they have winzip or some other utility used to unzip files, since you have 10.4, you can put both files into a folder and then right click or control click on the folder and choose to Create Archive which will zip the files up.

Crash 0::42 when Exporting Audio with Quicktime:

Hello Folks,
We're having an issue with exporting .mov files from After Effects. When a user tries rendering a project through Make Movie > Ouput Module > Quicktime Movie, AE crashes with the error code 0::42 if the user simply clicks the 'Format Options' button for Audio output. In addition, if the user selects File > Export > Quicktime Movie, the movie will get about half way done and crash with the same error.
This error occurs on all of our workstations. We are using CS4 and HP workstations of various makes and models, the only direct similarity is they all use Realtek built in audio. I have done some troubleshooting using procmon.exe and the issue that seems to be coming up points to a conflict with our audio driver and Quicktime (see the following regesty entries below)
The following kept coming up with a BUFFER OVERFLOW and NAME NOT FOUND results:

Does AsioWdm.dll have some conflict with our HD Realtek audio and quicktime?
I tried uninstalling and reinstalling the Sound card drivers / codecs. This actually allowed me to export Quicktime movies without crashing via File > Export. However, we're still experiencing the crash when clicking on 'Format Options' from Make Movie > Output Module > Format Options.
Does anyone have any idea what's causing / how to resolve our issue?
Any help would be much appreciated.

Thank you for your responses, here is an update on our status:
I am testing a simple scene with a .wav file. AE only crashes when we're using the Quicktime module and if we click on Format Options in the audio settings. All other modules seem to work just fine. Interestingly, if we choose File > Export > Quicktime Movie, we can access the audio compression options and AE does not crash.
In regards to ASIO, as far as I know, we are not interfacing with anything else. The workstations we're using have built-in speakers, but I don't see how that could be an issue and nothing else is plugged in.
As for the codecs, we have the k-lite package installed as well as DivX, Xvid and whatever comes with the Realtek drivers. I tried uninstalling k-lite and xvid, but neither seemed to help.
Other things I have tried:
- Uninstalled and reinstalled AE
- Updated Quicktime to the newest version
- Uninstalled and reinstalled Quicktime to version 7.65
- Disabled openGL support
NOTE: we recently tried this on one of our workstations (z600) with windows 7 64 bit and we got the same issue.
No matter what we do, AE still crashes when we have the Quicktime format selected and click the Format Options Button for the audio settings.
Any other ideas?

I wish to convert Windows AVI hd files with 4 channels of adio to Quicktime mov, retaining the four tracks of audio, will quicktime pro do this

It depends on what the audio and video codecs used in the video. AVI is just a container format and make use any number of codecs, some of which QuickTime for Windows can support but many it cannot. If you can post information on the codecs, someone here can probably give more direct advice.

No audio with Quicktime 7.6

The audio portion of Quicktime Player does not work at all. This problem began when I upgraded to Quicktime 7.6.
Any help out there?

I had my external "sound sticks" selected as the output. And the external speakers worked fine with all sources of audio (e.g. iTunes, Windows Media Player, Final Cut Express) EXCEPT Quicktime Player.
So when I select internal speakers as the output, I can now hear the audio in Quicktime too. But why would external speakers work with everything except Quicktime 7.6?

Error with quicktime when installing itunes 6.0

hi, i've tried reinstall the new itunes many times but whenever it reaches the end of the installation, it says that there's an error installing quicktime (it says quicktime installation failed: error code: -3) and when i try to access itunes it says that it has performed an error and is closed.

I have one solution for you.. I just also bought my Ipod VIdeo 60 GB 3 days ago and having problem with Quicktime 7.0.3.
Everytime I click on Itunes Icon on my desktop, it says you have older version of Quicktime 7.0.2, Itunes need 7.0.3 or later to be able to play Itunes, Please reinstall Itunes....I did reintalling adn uninstalling millions of times.. still it was the same problem.
Now what I recommend is to uninstall all Quicktime version and Itunes in your computer. Delete everytime you have... shutdown wait for couple of minutes and then go to the above site address I provided. Only download Quicktime alone. Do not download qiucktime and itunes together.. It is no good. And do not go to Apple site to download because it will download together.. That's not what we want. Download Quicktime 7.0.3 version for windows. After successful installation.. Only then Go to apple site and only download Itunes alone. This will work I guaranteed. Because mine is working now!!! Let me know the outcome.. Good luck!!

Audio not in synch with video when mov files played in QT 7.6

When I play .mov files stored in an iPhoto 08 photo library, the audio is not in synch with the video. People's lips move and the audio comes out a second or so later. This is a relatively new problem, and I don't have the same problem when I play .avi files. A couple weeks ago, the audio and video were good and they were synchronized. The video in the .mov files is also choppy. The video plays for a few seconds, briefly pauses, and then starts again.
Appreciate any suggestions.

I'm not sure this is the issue. The video files were never in iMovie. Only imported into the iPhoto libaray from my Kodak M1033 camera. A few weeks ago, I did not have an issue with .mov files playing smoothly. Perhaps there was a recent update to QT?
When I upload the .mov clips to Flickr (www.flickr.com) or YouTube, they play just fine, so I'm not sure what the issue is.

NO AUDIO with QuickTime Pro and MPEG-2 Playback

I just purchased Sony Camcorder (Sony DCR-DVD610 DVD Handycam Camcorder with 40x Optical Zoom) and recorded some movies. But when I tried to view it through my iMac (Version 10.4.11) the MPG format files wouldn't played.
So I purchased "QuickTime Pro 7.5" and "MPEG-2 Playback" -- Well, the movies finally played BUT NO AUDIO at all. I also downloaded several supported codecs but still failed -- NO AUDIO.

All DVD camcorders I've seen use AC3 for audio. As QT Kirk pointed out, this audio format is not supported natively by QT which is why you need the latest Perian or the A52 codec installed.
The camcorder comes with 3" DVD+RW. Since my computer is iMac with CD/DVD drive slot on the side, I can't play the 3" DVD. The drive only play the regular 6" CD/DVD...
I believe Rick was trying to find out if you can connect the camcorder via the USB cable (closing iMovie '08 if it opens) and access the movies at the file level directly from the camcorder. If you can see the files on the camcorder, then they can be copied to your hard drive and/or opened in MPEG Streamclip for viewing/conversion to iMovie '08 "edit" compatible file formats. The free MPEG Streamclip application, together with the $20 MPEG-2 Playback component which you have already purchased, will allow you to convert your video files to DV, AIC, M-JPEG, Photo-JPEG, MPEG-4, or H.264 video with DV, AIFF (Big/Little Endian), Uncompresses, AAC, etc. compatible audio. DO NOT CONVERT TO APPLE ANIMATION OR APPLE VIDEO COMPRESSION FORMATS as they will import and edit but not export properly from iMovie '08. DO NOT USE QT PRO (or any other QT application) TO CONVERT YOUR FILES as this work flow will not retain the original audio content. (I.e., your original QT Pro conversion attempt may have lost the original audio content and, if so, no added component will now allow you to hear the non-existent audio.)

Help! No Audio with Quicktime Video, Streaming=OK

Quicktime will not play audio alone or audio within a downloaded video clip (video is crystal clear, without hiccups), but streaming video plays audio without any problems. the intra-browser QT interface often freezes when pause is attempted and requires forced closure of the browser (either IE or Firefox) to regain control.
I'm running quicktime 7.1 on a home-built Athlon 3200+ with the ATI multimedia center software installed for an ATI all in wonder. I also have a Creative Audigy (1) card with all effects disabled. Quicktime is already set to play audio in "safe mode" (wave out only). Quicktime has been uninstalled/reinstalled several times with no success.
Any Suggestions?

When Compressing for DVD, you need to make to separate files, which you will then combine in DVDSP.
.m2v for video
.ac3 for audio

Problems with Quicktime when downloading new iTunes

I was trying to burn an audio CD from an iTunes playlist, and kept getting error message. So I went to the Apple site to download the newest version of iTunes, to see if that would help. I got the file (iTunes75Setup) downloaded. When I opened it to install iTunes, however, it proceeded into the installing of Quicktime, and partway through it gave me an error message (error # 2738) saying the installation of Quicktime failed, and Quicktime is needed for iTunes functions, so I should try installation again later. I tried a few times and got the same error.
The thing that confuses me, I already HAVE Quicktime installed on my computer separately, and working just fine. (Version 7.1.5) So why do I need to re-install it with iTunes? (Particularly since it seems to be the part of the process that is causing problems.)
Does anyone know how to fix this error, or if there is a way to upgrade to the new iTunes without requiring a re-installation of Quicktime? Thanks!

I am having this same type of problem. When I try to open the new iTunes it says there is a Quicktime error (it cannot initialize). I've tried uninstalling both iTunes and Quicktime and reinstalled them without any luck. Does anyone know how to fix this??

Losing quality with images when I import them into Premiere cs5

I am creating a video using a series of stills. I originally imported them as png's. I noticed that the images where degraded when they appeared in the timeline, and thought they would come out clear and crisp when I exported. But they remained the same quality in the export as they did in the timeline. I tried replacing the png's with other files and nothing seemed to import nicely, except when I converted the png's to PSD and imported the PSD's. The PSD's looked perfect in the timeline, until I rendered the timeline. And then immediately they degraded. I tried exporting just to see if it would produce a better result and it did not. I also noticed that the titles are degraded in the export as well.
I've gone through a bunch of forums and haven't seen an answer to my issue. My guess at this point is that it was something to do with interlacing or "fields", but I honestly don't know jack about that stuff. Should I be working in a different sequence preset? If so, which would be best for importing PNG's, or PSD's (RGB) as stills?
The goal here is to fix my current sequence and improve the quality of the stills in it. I would prefer not starting over

I honestly don't know what the right export setting is, i'm just looking for something that produces a high def result. I know that my project framerate is 30 fps, so it should probably be exported for 30 fps.
Any help on this would be great. I've gone pretty much to the far corners of the internet and have found nothing of real help.

For the YouTube version, use the appropriate YouTube preset. If you have the upload bandwidth, change Target and Max from 8 to 50.
For the computer Master, you might try something lossless. I like the UT codec. (http://umezawa.dyndns.info/archive/utvideo/) It's free and works fine with Windows and Macs. The down side is that not many players can handle it, including the venerable VLC. I have to use Windows Media Player for those files.
Another option is MXF OP1a using the AVC-I 100 codec. It's not technically lossless, but it is damn close. But again, player support is somewhat limited for this format.
Of course, if you do up the bitrate to 50 in the YouTube export, that would not be a horribly copy to keep around. And it'll play in a lot more players.

Audio waveform disappears when opening file to edit but audio still there

I recorded an interview in AA and saved it. Had the waveforms there when recording, but after saving, I came back in the next day and opened the file to edit it down and I could hear it, but couldn't see the waveforms. Had this happen a couple of years ago and the guy that fixed it then didn't show me how to do it and he is no longer with the company. Any help?

This may be a problem with the .pk files associated with the audio recordings. .pk files store a representation of the waveform for fast display in the application and can safely be deleted so that they are re-generated the next time the files are opened in Audition.
To try resolving this, open the folder that contains your .WAV recordings and look for the .pk files for each. It will have a much smaller filesize. Move these files to a different location or to the Recycle Bin (don't delete them just yet in case there's any confusion about which file is which.) Then relaunch Audition and open the recordings. It should regenerate the .pk files and you should be back to normal.

No audio with quicktime

When I open a .mov or itunes I don't get any audio from my external speakers.
I do get audio when using Final Cut Pro 7.
Under system preferences/audio/outputs the line out slection has no controls for Left & Right sound. Also the mute button is ticked on, and greyed out so I can change it!
I'm using a MacPro 2008 8core running Lion. All apps are updated.

No, you are definately not the only one with this problem. I've sought help from this board and also through this article: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93610. But nothing has really isolated the problem.
I have somehow gotten sound to work after a month of monkeying with it, but the sound is extremely jumpy and poppy. We're talking even for an MP3 file that plays just fine in other audio playback applications like Windows Media Player.
I think it is related to the waveOut setting. It is checked by default. If I uncheck it and click Ok and then go back into Preferences, it is checked again. People have said this is a permissions issue, but the SYSTEM account has full permissions on the preferences file, as well as the Administrators group, of which my account is part of.

How can I use an external mic to record meeting audio with quicktime player

I'm trying to use a SoundTech CM-1000 conference mic to record meetings at a conference I am running.
I'm using Quicktime for the recordings.
The SoundTech CM-1000 conference mic does not transmit any sound when connected to the Audio-in plug on my MacBook Pro.
Does my MacBook Pro require external mics that are also powered - connected via a usb port rather than, or at least in addition to, the audio-in plug, for instance?

1 buy a USB mic and connect to a USB port
2 buy a small very cheap sound mixer that has 3.5 mic level input and a line level out put

Problem with permissions when copying files over network

This is my setup. Our design studio have several iMacs that the designers use for open projects, when they are finished I copy them over to a G4 which has a SATA raid in it which is used as a file-server for all closed jobs, photos and logos. The file-servers mount point was created using an app called 'Sharepoints'. The iMacs run 10.5.7 the G4 runs 10.4.11.
When I try and copy over a folder full of folders/files for a given project into the given clients folder. I keep getting the error, "the operation cannot be completed because you do not have sufficient privileges for "filename".
If I get info for the given file the owner, group and everyone have read & write access. The client folder on the file-server has the owner, group and everyone having read & write access. I can drag that file by itself over to the file-server and it will copy fine with out the error.
This is doing my head in, the quickest way around the problem is to archive the folder, copy it over and then un-archive it.
Can anyone shed any light on why this is happening and what I should to to fix the problem. Thanks
