Losing changes and clips

Hi. I'm brand-new to the forum and delighted to find a place that might help solve my FCX problems!
1. I edit for days, saving constantly. If I quit the program, many of the changes are lost; some renamed clips in the browser are no longer renamed;
2. Occasionally get the message "Autosave error: unknown file" or a similar error message when I manually save;
3. Sometimes clips I've imported are just gone from the browser.
I won't quit the program until the editing is complete, but now I'm afraid the project won't save properly when I burn it to a disc.
I use FCX 4 on my iMac. Please help.

The 16:9 vs 4:3 can cause some issues, but is not likely to cause a color shift. Being on PAL, you actually have a bit more "built-in" control on output, than we NTSC-folk.
Do you have any Effects added to these problem Clips?
You indicate that the color/gamma was correct, when you did your Capture. Was it still good, when you first dragged these Clips to the Timeline? Was it ONLY after you closed and reopened the Project, that you encountered the shift? If you were to drag one of those Clips to the Timeline, next to one of the problem ones, would it look correct? If so, can you do a screen-cap of this side-by-side comparison? Hint: use the little "camera" icon in the lower-middle of the Toolbar in the editing screen to attach the screen-cap, so it will appear in the body of your post, and not have to go through queue. Also, I'd suggest doing the screen-cap as a BMP, or high-quality (say 9 on the Photoshop quality scale), so the image is as clear, as is possible. Please add annotations so we can readily see the "before" and the "after."
The behavior that you describe is odd, and that is why I'm still asking questions.
The only thing that comes to mind would be a video display issue, but this should be universal and should not be selective, as you describe.
While you're helping us work through this, please check your video driver for any updates. Windows has just released some updates and hot-fixes, and these can mess up video drivers. That is about the only thing that comes to my mind, as a possible cause. Again, this would be a global change and would not be at all selective.

Sequence and clip name keeps changing... Why ? Solutions ?

The sequence and clip name on a particular project keeps changing. It usually takes the name of of an audio file. Deleting the preferences, opening the timeline in a new project, making it offline and reconnecting it again, et. all doesn't help ? What is causing this ? HELP

I made the sequence off line and save it as a new project. Then deleted the preferences and opened the project..... reconnected the media. Most of the clips showed the correct clip name and the sequence name also didn't change. But a few audio tracks still had the old problem....

Hi everyone! does anyone know how to convert .AVI files for using in iMovie without losing the original clip time and date? Handbrake, MPEG Streamclip and Evon all replace the original timecode with the date of modification. This is very frustrating when you are trying to keep the chronology right. I know that if you upload the files to iMovie from one device the chronology isn't a problem, but I'm adding video files from a couple of iPhones and a couple of camcorders. any help much appeciated.

Make sure the Ring/Silent switch isn't showing a red bar or dot.
If that isn't it, try disconnecting the headphones and adjusting the the volume.
If the iPhone says headphones when you adjust the volume, there could be something in the headphone jack.
You can try disconnecting and reconnecting the headphones 5-6times or restoring the iPhone.

I agree that it's probably interference. Only other possibility, since you mentioned it, it overheating. Is the express situated so that it is well ventilated? That is to say, not buried under other equipment and laying on its side? What does the status light do when you lose connection?

How can I animate colour changes of clips and mattes in fcpx

Can Anyone help me in getting to grips with ficpx.
I want to vary (animate) the colour of titles and mattes over their time periods. Also, i need to correct the variations of colour temperature (castes) which my panasonic camcorder produces sometimes. I notice that there is no animation icon in the inspector panel for colour changes and I am not able to insert animation points on the timeline animation strips above the assets. Color correction and color masks cannot be animated in FCP. You'd have to do this in Motion or some other app. DaVinci Resolve Lite is free.

To change your iCloud ID, go to Settings>iCloud, tap Delete Account, then sign back in with the new ID. This deletes the account and your iCloud data from your device, but not from iCloud. Provided you are signing back into the same account, your iCloud data will reappear on your device when you sign back in.
To avoid losing photo stream photos, save them to your camera roll (if not already there) before deleting the account. To do this, open your my photo stream album, tap Edit, tap the photos, tap Share, then tap Save to Camera Roll.
To change the ID on your Mac, go to System Preferences>iCloud, sign out, choose Delete for all the prompts (your data will still be in iCloud), then sign back in with the changed ID.

Changing a clip in FCP imbedded seq for Motion??

So I've built my sequence in FCP. I've sent it to Motion. I get the Motion sequence almost done and discover I want to change a shot in the sequence.
When I got back to FCP I've now got the imbedded FCP\Motion sequence.
Is there any way to OPEN that sequence and change a shot?
Or. If I change the shot in Motion, what happens to the shot in the original imbedded sequence in FCP?

Intriguing. So I went into the seq. FCP had created to match the Motion project. I changed three clips. Now I come back to the .motn clip on the FCP timeline. No changes have appeared there, nor in Motion.
So changing the clips in the FCP saved Motion seq. (in the Browser) did not seem to change the clips in the imbedded FCP.motn seq on the master timeline, nor the clips in Motion.
Did I misunderstand your directions? Or am I missing a step somewhere?
And I know I can change the clips in the Motion project itself, but how is this going to affect the FCP.motn sequence on the master FCP timeline?

I'm a novice using premiere Pro CS6 and having problems with something so hoping someone can advise.
Basically I've imported some clips into the project folder. the first clip i imported into the timeline gave me a pop up saying this clip does not match the sequence settings. i had obviously chosen the wrong settings but premiere recognised the mistake and prompted me. Now I opted to change the sequence setting and the clip worked and fitted fully in the program panel when played on there.
however when I choose another clip and drag it into the timeline, the clip has black sides and appears to be smaller in the program panel e.e. it is not fully fitted even tho the drop down is on 'fit' . I had no pop up asking me to change the clip to match sequence setting for this either.
How else do I match this clip to the sequence if no pop up come up to change it?
its prob well simple - but I cant work it out?? please help

thanks for your ply.
The problem is that the clip I first put on the timeline was from someone who filmed a boring long clip of a karate fight, so there were no camera angles or view points to play around with. So i basically made edits by making cuts in the clip andplaying around using scale and positioning to give the impression of other camera angles.
Anyhow I cant delete that and put in the other clip as Ive worked hard on it already. I just wondered if there was a manual way of matching the sequence settings, cause all the clips are from the same camera and settings.
In regards to scaling the frame size - i did this and it looked fine, but when I came to use the stabilizer in came up with clip needs to match the sequence settings or somethign like that. This is where I'm struggling cause I cant work out how to to match it.

Change a clips color on iMovie

I am making a 3D clip on iMovie 10.0.6, and to do that I need to place a blue clip on top of a red clip.
I am able to change a clip to blue but I cannot put it in red. I have done some research and it tells me that I need to put advanced tools or something similar but it isn't on my version of iMovie.
So the big question is how do i put a clip in red?

It has been reported on the web that Apple has a problem with the calendar/colors, the same thing happened in August, if I recall correctly. We can only wait for a fix.

Recover music from ipod without losing ratings and play counts

hey Guys, I just changed my laptop which I use to sync my ipod. I understand that if I change the setting to manual update I will be able to see my song without losing them, and that if I show hidden files I can actually copy the music back on my computer.
My question is wheter if I do the overstated procedure, will I be able to see the play count and ratings that I had on my ipod in itunes? Please help, I put a lot of work in that

Compressor quality changes with clip length

Hello,
Im on a max OSX 10.6.5, compressor 3.5.3, FCP 7.0.3.
I am taking footage off the SONY XDCAM, running it through the XDCAM Transfer software and having it wrapped in quicktime so i can edit in FCP. The project was filmed in HD 1280x720, XDCAM HD422, 720p60(50 mb/s).
The destination is SD DVD.
Problem- Since going from HD to SD can be a bit tricky, I made a half dozen sample compression clips. I found that the compressor DVD 90min Best quality preset with a slight bitrate change to look the best. When I compress the 3 minute clip, it looks really great. But when I compress the entire sequence (only 83 minutes.. well within the 90 minute preset) it looks like garbage. The difference is night and day. What is the issue? suggestions?

Sorry for the slow reply, I hit the road for a while shortly after posting...but I'm back.
Also, I'm embarrassed to say that the problem turned out to be the nut holding the tool (in other words, user error). It doesn't matter how carefully one changes the clip length if you somehow forget that clicking on the clip then selecting "pasteover at playhead" does not paste the selected clip but pastes whatever is in memory. As I'm sure you can guess, the clip copied earlier was 3:12 in length.

I am having issues with adjusting the duration of time for each still frame and transition in imovie 11. Each time that I adjust these times, the app does not accept the change, and automatically enters its own time. Am I doing something wrong?

Have you tried turning off automatic transitions ? Choose file - project properties and follow the dialogue box to change duration with a slider. iMovie also doesn't allow a transition to be more than 50% duration of the clip its attached to. In other words if the clip is 4 seconds the transition cannot be more than 2 seconds and remember that relates to the first clip as the following clip (right side) is pulled back to overlay it.
Does this help. Perhaps you already know this ?

Changing a clip duration

I've read several items explaining that the KB effect is the reason that I can't change the duration of a photo clip. Several people have given "fixes" for that but none of them work. For instance, several said to double click on the clip and unclick the KB effect - it's not there in my version. Others said double clip and change the duration - same result (although I can change the clip title nothing else can be changed). So am I left reimporting all clips and turning off the KB effect? And by the way, how do you do that? The photos start rendering the moment I import them from iPhoto or a disk.

Firstly, assuming you have iMovie HD (5) - i.e. not the latest version which is iMovie 6, these tutorials could be useful:

The 'bar at the bottom of the program' into which you dragged the photos is the video track. It can be displayed in two ways, alternately displayed by clicking on the little buttons at the left just under the screen - one shows a miniature clockface (that option is the best for doing editing, but the other displays a simpler, larger version of your pics).
To change the duration of a clip depends on whether or not in the Photos Pane, the Ken Burns option is turned on or not.
If it was not on when the pics were imported, then the duration of single pics can be changed by double-clicking the photo, which opens an information pane including the duration - those numbers can be changed (the last two represent frames). To change the duration of a group of such pics, you select them all, and in the Photos Pane, adjust the slider the hit the Update button.
If the Ken Burns effect was ticked, then the only way the durations can be changed is in the Photos Pane.
The Photos Pane is the one in iMovie you were in when importing pics from iPhoto - selected by hitting the Photos button.
Note: if indeed you have the latest version of iMovie, then tell me, because the layout of and access to the Photos Pane is a little different.
