Losing changes to library - iTunes Match.

I have my library set up locally, and iTunes match on.
Every time I make changes to my library (such as album/song ratings that affect smart playlists), I update IM but all my changes are lost every time and it reverts back to the library before the edits.
Am I doing something wrong (I obviously am!)?

my problem started when my last computer up and crashed. i then went out and purchased another (PC) and started importing all music from my ipod onto my new computer. this took about 18 hours. once i had all my music back in my itunes library i started re-rating and creating new playlist.
If you had maintained local backups of your personal data on an external HDD you would not have been in that situation. It is critical for all of us to maintain backups of our own data.

once this was done i signed up for match to save my itunes library so i would never have to do this again.
FAQ: Why iTunes Match Can Not Be Used as a Backup

Do not use the "Update iTunes Match" command every time you make changes in the iTunes library. It does not push information to the cloud. It pulls information from the cloud, effectively erasing all the changes you just made. All you need to do is simply make the changes in the library and leave it alone. The changes will propagate by themselves. However, iTunes Match is glitchy when making a large number of changes in a short period of time, and tends to undo those changes. By "large number" I mean hundred at a time in a few minutes or seconds. You need to make your changes in smaller blocks, and give the changes a few minutes to get pushed to the cloud.
Stop using "Update iTunes Match" and back up your data.

  • How do I change ownership on iTunes Match from one account to another?

I purchased iTunes Match using one account but use another as my account for iCloud and my iPhone. How do I change ownership of my Match account?

I don't think you can.  Purchases made with an account are tied permanently to that account.  This is the reason why it is not a good idea to have more than one iTunes account unlesss you really need to keep them separate.

  • HT5085 Will all my skins or album covers be safe or will they be changed when in iTunes match

Will all my skins or album covers be safe or will they be changed when I subscribe to iTunes match and the upload process begins.   Some of my skins or album covers I had to add to old songs that didn't have them or were from a Billboard 100 list.

They shoud be safe.. though you may run into a few glitches with it.

  • Now that I have iTunes Match, I want to free up space on my Macbook Air - how do I do this without losing the songs in iTunes Match?

Can I just delete songs or do I need to save them on an external hard-drive?

    Hi,
Make and keep a backup of your iTunes library, and only stream from the cloud.

  • My iTunes Match won't load past step 1; All songs in my library say "Exceeded Limit", even the ones that were uploaded before.

My iTunes Match hasn't been working for a couple of days. It said I had exceeded the song limit, so I was going through my library and clearing out some songs. When I deleted the songs, the box that asked if I wanted to delete them from the cloud wasn't showing up. I decided to update my iTunes Match before deleting anything else. When I attempted the update, Step 1 moved incredibly slowly, then stopped working before reaching Step 2. When this has happened in the past, I have been advised to try several troubleshooting tactics from the support forum and from writing to Apple support in the past. The first one is to turn off iTunes Match, restart the computer, and turn on iTunes Match again. I did that. The same problem occurred. I tried the second trouble shooting tactic, which was to turn off iTunes Match, close iTunes, find the iTunes Library Genius.itdb and iTunes Library Extras.itdb and move them to the trash, then run a Repair Disk Permissions using Disk Utility, then turn iTunes Match back on. I tried that. The same problem occurred. I went to my iTunes library to see the iCloud status of my songs, and every single song was listed as not being in the cloud yet and had the "Exceeded Limit" status, even the songs that have been in my cloud for over a year. I checked a few of the forum topics here on the support site. One suggested opening up iTunes while holding down the Option button, creating a new library, then turning on iTunes Match and deleting songs from the cloud that way. Then open up the original library and turn on iTunes Match. I did that. The status of my songs hasn't changed, nor can iTunes Match load past Step 1. Does anyone know what I can do to fix this?

Maybe I didn't explain it properly, but that's one of the things I described trying in my first post. It helped get songs out of my cloud that I didn't need there, but iTunes Match still couldn't get past the first step. Last night I deleted the iTunes Library Extras.itdb, iTunes library Genius.itdb, iTunes Library.it, and iTunes Library.xml files from my computer, entered Time Machine, and recovered those same files that had been backed up after the last time I added music (the time the problem began.) After recovering those files I opened iTunes and turned Match back on. For some reason, it worked, even though those were the files that existed when the problem initially occurred. The combination of having songs removed from the cloud as well as restoring those original files must have done something, but I have no idea why that fixed the problem.

  • ITunes match not updating on devices

    Help. Please.
itunes match not updating. iTunes on computer has appropriate songs/ albums. But on iPhone and ipad changes do not appear. I have tried holding down shift key when turning off iTunes Match, signing out of iTunes Store, then quitting itunes. I then start itunes, sign into store, then turn on iTunes match and it goes through lengthy scanning, hours, and I am left with the matching page showing the three stages of iTunes Match greyed out, with a button offering me to start it again. Re
i have repeated this process several times, switching off iTunes Match on devices before starting iTunes Match on compute - same problem. I have changed albums while iTunes Match is on, as recommended by apple's webpage.
please advise on how to update iTunes match so this change on computer also happens on devices. Thank you in advance

    Dear Jim
thank you so much. Thank you for your quick reply, sorry I did not respond sooner, but  I wanted to make sure it worked before replying, hence I had to wait for iTunes Match to do its thing.
You are are a genius Jim, so a big thank you.
So in a nutshell for all, Jim's solution works for those who have gone over their 25,000 limit by mistake, and are unable to update match, you can with Jim's solution, delete stuff in the iTunes Match cloud and in effect have your original iTunes Match library as you want it.
    Thank you Jim

  • HT3819 What's the difference, other than the 24.99, between Home Sharing (free) and iTunes Match (24.99)?

What's the difference, other than the 24.99, between Home Sharing (free) and iTunes Match (24.99)?

Home sharing allows you to share content between computers and devices on your wifi network - so if you have your library on your computer's iTunes and you want to access it on your iPad then both your computer and iPad have to be turned on, iTunes open on your computer, and both need to be connected to the same wifi network.
iTunes Match will upload your music library to the cloud (including music copied from CDs and from other sources) allowing you to accces it from your computer or iPad without requiring your main computer to be on - and if you have access to a network when not at home you can download or stream music from it. It's also acts as a second backup of your content (you should still maintain your own backup of your library).
    iTunes Match, from http://www.apple.com/itunes/itunes-match/ :
Once your music is in iCloud, you can play it from any of your devices. Just browse the complete list of all your music stored in the cloud and tap to play to it. You can store up to 25,000 songs in iCloud (more if songs are purchased from the iTunes Store), but only what you play or download is stored on your device. Tap the iCloud download button to download music from an artist, album, or playlist. So you have immediate access to a huge music library without having to worry about the storage space on your device.
But whether it's worth it only you will know. Personally I don't use it, I keep and maintain my own backup of my content and sync it to my devices so that I don't have to rely on being online to access what I might want to listen to,

  • Does iTunes Match ignore duplicates?

I have been loading vinyls onto iTunes using EZ Vinyl Tape converter. I have sync'd OK until recently when problems encountered with EZ. However there are some tunes on laptop to sync. After using the iPod touch as a camera I now cannot sync.  The laptop thinks the iPod is a camera and does not initiate iTunes, instead the laptop gets a totally blank screen and I cannot do anything, not even switch it off. I have scanned laptop for bugs, viruses etc using norton. I am totally stuck now.

  • I need to cancel iTunes Match so I can switch country / region

I have moved from the UK to Australia.  I need to cancel my iTunes Match in order to change country on the iTunes store.  I have 'turned off auto-renew' but this does not cancel my subscription, which is not due to expire for some time.
I no longer have any UK payment methods, so I cannot purchase anything from iTunes until I switch region, allowing me to switch payment methods.  I cannot do this until iTunes match is cancelled.
I simply want my iTunes Match cancelled. I don't want to call Apple.  I just want it cancelled.  Why is it so impossibly difficult to do this?

  • ITunes Match UK - less than 20% items matched

I'm really excited because we in the UK now have it! I don't get out much...
However, out of the 13,326 items in my library, iTunes Match has only matched 2,468... Less than 20%. Is that normal? I've noticed quite a few albums that are definitely available on iTunes, but they haven't matched even though I ripped them from CD with iTunes Plus settings. Will it replace the uploads with matches at a later time, if and when this glitch gets sorted?

I'm not sure if there's an averge metric, but in my own case I'm still at ~85% matched in general (USA user, btw).   Generally my uploads are either 100% uploads for an album (as the album in question is OOP and thus not in iTunes, for example) ot I get those one-off uploads that many people are complaining about.
The only time I've had albums with like 50% upload rates (so far) have been with different masterings.   I'll use The Beatles as an example -- the 1980's CD rips definitely have matching issues above the usual one-off errors, but the 2009 CD rips usually match 100% for me.    So if you happen to have a lot of CD rips from albums that have been remastered once or twice since your CD purchase, this could be the issue you're having.
Also something to potentially consider is the different pressings between the US and UK.  We don't know how iTunes is making their AAC files, but if it's a CD source and a US CD source specifically, there's a possibility that a UK CD rip might be different enough to go over their threshold.   I've been posting to a vinyl thread here where we are convinced that the thresholds Apple is using currently to match seem way too high and could problaby be tweaked a little better.  In our opinion, of course.
As for throttling, I don't believe iTunes has anything internal to reduce the bandwidth in use, but I suspect that there are third-party tools that might be able to do throttling at the application level.

  • In which countries does iTunes Match operate?

In particular, in Belgium where I lived before, and in UK where I will move next year?

    Hi,
One point to note. You will need to cancel your Belgium account when you move to UK. Match accounts are not transferable between countries.

I want to delete songs from iTunes Match by unchecking them in my iTunes library on my Mac. Is this possible? If so, how do I change the necessary setting(s) in iTunes or iTunes Match?

I have seen this page, but it seems that this involves deleting songs from my iTunes library in order to remove them from iTunes Match. I want to keep them in my iTunes library, but not in iTunes match (I am over my limit for songs in iTunes Match, and would like to decide which songs to keep in iTunes Match).
