Losing Color Intensity

I am trying to provide an image to an ad company for printing. When I change the color mode from RGB to CMYK, I lose the beautiful intense blue of the sky. I have tried to get this intensity back through photo filters, curves, levels, saturation, variations, color balance, selective color, and the channel mixer to no avail. Can anyone give me some tips on this? (I freely admit that my solution will probably be found in some combination of the above!)
I am using PS CS2 on WXP xp2.
Thanks!
Susan

Susan,
here are some informations about sky blue:
http://www.fho-emden.de/~hoffmann/skyblue14072008.pdf
Color space for the images is sRGB.
In short: postcards and travel agency brochures are
showing often fully saturated dark blues which I didn't
ever encounter in real life.
Blue sky at a sunny day, over the haze of the horizon, is
rather light and, concerning the hue, between blue and
cyan. The doc contains color ranges in Lab instead of RGB.
A light saturated blue is not available in any CMYK space.
Try to tweak the RGB image and check often the appearance
in CMYK by View > Proof Colors and View > Gamut Warning,
using your preferred CMYK space.
The improved sky blue colors in my doc are all printable
by ISO Coated, eventually with tiny deviations.
Best regards --Gernot Hoffmann

Unfortunately, that's the way the cookie crumbles nowadays. Sir Jony Ive's GUI design for iOS7 has been met with much skepticism (to say the least). But until the company sees the compelling need for an adjustment or reversal, it "ain't happenin' ". So amble over to the feedback page ( http://www.apple.com/feedback/ ) and make your displeasure known to the company, OR make it known by not purchasing its products. Because as long as the iGadgets continue selling as fast as they can make them, they will see no need for change.
BTW, do note you are NOT talking to Apple here. This is just a user-to-user forum.
Edit: for now, you can also try out any of the alternate calendaring apps available in the App Store.

  • Color intensity in lightroom vs. photoshop

    hi,
i love lightroom. i just recently purchased and use it for all my raw processing. i use a large format camera and a leaf valeo 22mp digital back. the color intensity in lightroom is amazing. when i export it to photoshop though to clean up spots and the like, i notice a less intense representation of the photo. is there a way to keep that wonderful intensity and contrast? monitor is calibrated every two weeks.

Make sure that photoshop is setup to respect embedded profiles (Edit->Color Settings, make sure in color management policies all three popups show "respect embedded profiles). It sounds like you have the color management in PS set up incorrectly. LR and PS should look basically indistinguishable safe for some minor differences in how PS renders.

  • Why is photo color intensity so flat compared to original photos?

I have been working on a Keynote presentation for photos I took on a recent trip. I edited my photos and converted them into jpeg files before bringing them into Keynote. Once in Keynote, the color intensity of the photos is very different from those in the jpeg files. They are flat and have no "pop." I would appreciate any suggestions on what I might do to remedy this. Thanks.

Sounds like you can simply create a correspondingly over-contrasty, oversaturated image and load that. It'll take some tinkering to find the balance, I'm sure.
Hope this is helpful. Good luck!

  • New IMac 20" Color intensity of the Dock Icons

I notice that the color intensity of the Dock Icons does not seem to be as intense as that of my wife's 24" IMac. It looks a bit washed out. Any suggestions or is this just the way a 20" is?

You might want to google this issue (20" imac screen gradient). It received a lot of attention when the current imac range was first released.
You can use the mac calibrator in either expert or non-expert mode. If you use the non-expert mode, try setting gamma to 2.2. Works for many.

  • Having different color intensity in iPhoto from PSE4

I organize and stop my photos in iPhoto 06. I do my editing in Photoshop Elements 4. I notice when I bring my photos from PSE4 back into iPhoto the intensity of the colors is a lot lighter. In other words, when I view a photo in PSE4 the color intensity is deeper/richer. When I bring it back into iPhoto the photo looks almost blown out. When I print a photo from iPhoto it has that same blown out look. How do I get both applications to look the same?

Good catch. The workaround is obvious.
In order for Adobe to be sure to see the problem, you ought to post at the official bug site.

  • PSE 11 color intensity differences between Organizer and Fotoeditor

The EIZO CG223G monitor color intensity using PSE 11 Organizer differs significantly from using Fotoeditor for the same tiff and jpg files.
    What ist the reason?
How to make the color rendering the same?

    Hi Barbara
first of all thanks for the very quick response.
After checking your advices my observations are as follows:
    1. Organizer and Editor are in regard to color management synchronized: When I change the settings in Organizer they are automatically changed in the editor. Consequently they are always the same.
    2. When in the "Always Optimize Colors for the Computer Screen" modus I observe when moving the Editor screen from my notebook monitor the EIZO monitor, colors are deteriorate immediately - like expected - but after 10 s they change to the right color rendering back. The right color rendering I can judge because it is a test tiff file with a corresponding color print out. When I do the same with the Organizer monitor it does not change after 10 s.
The question is: does color optimization for the belonging monitor does not work in the Organizer properly?

  • How can I batch process CR2 raw files to tif's without losing color adjustments?

Working in BRidge and Photoshop CS6:
I have 160 color adjusted hi-res CR2 RAW files from my photographer, thought I was getting tifs. I need tifs for my INdesign file. I tried using the photoshop image proecessor through brige by selecting all my images and then saving as TIFFs but I am losing all my color correcting? Is there a way to save these out as tiffs as a group and not one at a time? I also might have lost my color correcting when I copies them all to one folder as well...not sure what is happening except now my great product shots look like crap. Please help.

Simply drag the entire folder through Bridge—or even individual files—the invisible xmp files containing your adjustments will automatically and invisibly travel along with the image files, as long as you do it within Bridge, not through the OS.
Otherwise, you would need to set your Mac OS to always make invisible files visible, and you don't want that hassle.
Just use Bridge to move files around or to copy them to a new folder.
Incidentally, there's a dedicated Adobe Bridge forum:

  • Photo Files Losing Color when placing in INDD...

Hi, using INDD CS6,I am noticing my jpg files are losing some of their color information when I link them into INDD, I am doing a photo book, and the colors really need to be preserved. It's almost like they are being compressed a little in INDD similar to what we see on compressed PDF output.  I have check my color spaces, etc, all seem to be good and consistent between the apps. I am attaching a screen shot where I overlaid the same jpg displayed in preview next to the same file linked to in INDD.
    Thank you.

A few things at play here, I think.  First, do you see the the little red dot with the question mark in the upper left of the frame in ID? That means the link is missing. ID can't do a proper preview if it can't find the link.  Second, ID is color managed. As far as I know, Preview is not. A more accurate check would be against the image in Photoshop.  Third, you've got a drop shadow. I suspect the Image is RGB and the transparency blend space is set to CMYK.  Fourth, you are, indeed, looking at a compressed preview, not the actual pixels. The quality of the preview depends on the settings (display quality) and the size/resolution ratio at which the image was saved.

  • Importing HD720 TGAs and losing color

Hello, I was wondering if there was an option in 1.5 to have the monitor preview window be 1280x720 because I am importing my TGA sequence and having to resize it to fit the 720x480 default window. Also when I import the files I loose the background color. It's weird because it shows up in Photoshop CS2 correctly ( a light blue background), but in Premiere 1.5 it is black. I attached a frame for example but had to save as a tiff using Photoshop CS2 because tga cannot be uploaded.. Also, does anyone recommend good export settings for .mov files? I want good quality, but not too huge a file size because I want to  burn to DVD. Thanks.

    Welcome to the forums.
You need to create a high-definition or a "Custom Settings" project with a resolution of 1280x720 with square pixels. You appear to be using a DV NTSC setting, which is why your frame size is restricted to 720x480.
The reason you're losing the background is likely because the TGA files have an alpha channel. You can use interpret footage to ignore the alpha channel, and thus make the background visible.
Search for the highlighted words in the PPro manual for more detail.
For DVD output, see: FAQ:What are the best settings for DVD?
You will also find links to many free tutorials in the PremiereProPedia that will quickly show you how things are done in Premiere Pro.
    Cheers
    Eddie

  • Losing color when uploading to lab

I have been using aperture for a 1 year. I just recently noticed that when I upload my photo to a pro lab my photo loses the color adjustments in my photos. It picks up some of the adjustment made in color efx, but vibrancy etc is lost. I have check my ICC profiles and what my export setting. Does anyone have a reason for this?

Let me ask this another way - how did you make the file you are selecting to upload within Aperture ?
Where did the file come from? Did you export it from Aperture? What export setting did you use?
first of all, thanks again for your reply and time.
    * Canon 40D, images are take in RAW format (very large files)
    * i then do any post processing that is necessary
    * Costco does not accept RAW files
I export the file from aperture 2 folder ( i do not use any other software for photography)
My next experiment is to create a CD/DVD of the images I wish to print - omit the online process, go to the lab and use their computer to upload the files.
RB, i just don't understand they I am losing quality in the prints.
As i shared earlier, the lab is aware that there is a problem (has been a problem) with Aperture 2 and print quality. I am just hoping that there is a solution. In the past, the Costco printing lab has been really good and cost effective.
    thank again

  • Exporting Movies Losing Color Correction

I have a movie created in iMovie 08 that I've used color correction on the clips. When I export the movie to an .m4v file or .mov file, the movie plays as expected with the color corrections applied.
However, If a most the .mov file to the web, or convert the .mov or .m4v file to an .flv file for playing in a Flash player, all of the color correction is lost and the video clips return to their originals, which is too dark.
Why am I losing the color correction?

I am using Flash CS3. Here are steps I am taking to import the video:
    1. File > Import > Import Video
    2. Selecting Videos (I've tried converting both .mov and .m4v files)
    3. Selecting "Progressive download from a web server"
    4. Choosing Flash 8 - High Quality (700kbps) profile
--- Under Video > Video codec the only two options I have are On2 VP6 or Sorenson Spark
Does this help? Please let me know if there's something more specific that would help answer the question. I'm technically competent, but new to video conversion.
    Thanks for the help.

  • Photo losing color/contrast when using "save as" to save it.

When I first started using CS6 I would edit my photos and when I used "save as" to save my photos then open them in a different photo viewer they would have lost a lot of color and contrast. When I reopened them in CS6 they still had no color. This is all occured on my PC. I used to use PSE 7 (on my PC) and the "save as" function to save them and they turned out fine. I recently got an iMac and when saved on there the same way and reopened in a different viewer they'd have the correct color, but when opened on my PC the color would be lost again. Also tried opening the images I saved on my PC in CS6 on the iMac and they still had no colo/contrast. So that would mean it's not a monitor calibration thing. I'm trying to figure out how to save my photos so they have the best quality they can have for printing and also the correct color for clients to view on their computers. Hope this all makes sense, it's a little confusing. Any help is much appreciated!! Thanks!
PS: I did use the "save for web" option on my PC and the photos have the correct color that way! But those aren't the proper size and stuff for printing. Also I'm very new to iMac and full photoshop so I'm not sure what sizes/pixels/color modes/etc are normal or what photos are supposed to be.

It has to do with embedded profiles  and what app you are using to open on PC

  • Desktop Screen losing color

The desktop screen on my laptop when it turns on the photo in the backdrop has the color bleeding through a red color, and it makes the saturation failing around it. Is my screen about to die, or are there ways for me to fix this probelm. Anyone else expereincing the lose of color on their desktops for a laptop. It also wil have wavey lines that will move slightly up and down as well. Please let me know what some of my options are thank you.

    regarding bsteely's comment...
    don't use a screensaver???
i have the middle macbook c2d...bought dec. 2006. i guess i have an lcd screen....so you're saying i shouldn't use a screensaver?? i have it set to run for 30 mins or 1 hr then sleep. it's of all my pictures...i really like it.
i was taught to ALWAYS use a screensaver to prevent the screen from burning out.
so what would you suggest as an alternative?

  • Losing colors on jpeg export

    Hello,
I've got a two color logo that I've laid over the Illustrator TShirt template. The .ai files are fine, but the white portion of my logo is missing in the exported jpeg. Any thoughts are greatly appreciated! Thanks.

    Steve,
But if it is it can't be read on Windows.
Maybe not in Worst (or similar but more perfect applications), but it is quite possible in InDesign/Acrobat/Windows Picture and Fax Viewer (at least in XP).
We often had trouble in the old days when Mac people sent CMYK JPEGs to clients.
I gave orders to our designers to prevent it from happening.
Hopefully, at least some of the Mac people are still alive.
