Losing color on import

hey guys, i'm pretty new to Indesign. When i import photos into indesign they seem to lose some color, colors are just less vibrant. I export to Adobe SRGB, what's up?

There are a few things that might be happening.
First, is your ID working space also set to sRGB? If not there may be a gamut re-mapping going on into a larger color space and how that is accomplished will depend on your color settings and policies in effect at the time of document creation.
Second, is there transparency or any effect that uses transparency on the page? If so, it's likely you have the transparency blend space set to document CMYK and and switching to RGB should brighten things up.
The whole area of color management, though, is very complex, and in order to geve good advice we really need a lot more information about what you are doing, your current settings, and what the intended output is going to be.

    Is it possible to change the color of imported art in pages, say from B&W to a color?  ... or even to make it a gradation of color?

    Make a Shape > Inspector > Graphic > Tinted Image Fill > Scale to fit > browse to image > click on the color patch to change the color to what you want
    or
    Drag in an image > overlay it with a Shape > select the color for the shape and change its Opacity
    Shapes may have Gradient and Advanced Gradient (multiple colors) fills both linear and radial. Both are in the Graphic Inspector as is Opacity.

  • Clips goes over red color after importing movies clips

    Clips goes overdosed by red color after importing movies clips

    I guess it doesn't look like that in the QuickTime player. 640x480? That's a computer form of NTSC yet you're using a PAL frame rate. That's very weird. What's the codec?
    You might also check the color space your display is set to, though the clip below it in the browser doesn't show the problem.

  • Importing HD720 TGAs and losing color

    Hello, I was wondering if there was an option in 1.5 to have the monitor preview window be 1280x720 because I am importing my TGA sequence and having to resize it to fit the 720x480 default window. Also when I import the files I loose the background color. It's weird because it shows up in Photoshop CS2 correctly ( a light blue background), but in Premiere 1.5 it is black. I attached a frame for example but had to save as a tiff using Photoshop CS2 because tga cannot be uploaded.. Also, does anyone recommend good export settings for .mov files? I want good quality, but not too huge a file size because I want to  burn to DVD. Thanks.

    Welcome to the forums.
    You need to create a high-definition or a "Custom Settings" project with a resolution of 1280x720 with square pixels. You appear to be using a DV NTSC setting, which is why your frame size is restricted to 720x480.
    The reason you're losing the background is likely because the TGA files have an alpha channel. You can use interpret footage to ignore the alpha channel, and thus make the background visible.
    Search for the highlighted words in the PPro manual for more detail.
    For DVD output, see: FAQ:What are the best settings for DVD?
    You will also find links to many free tutorials in the PremiereProPedia that will quickly show you how things are done in Premiere Pro.

  • Exporting Movies Losing Color Correction

    I have a movie created in iMovie 08 that I've used color correction on the clips. When I export the movie to an .m4v file or .mov file, the movie plays as expected with the color corrections applied.
    However, If a most the .mov file to the web, or convert the .mov or .m4v file to an .flv file for playing in a Flash player, all of the color correction is lost and the video clips return to their originals, which is too dark.
    Why am I losing the color correction?

    I am using Flash CS3. Here are steps I am taking to import the video:
    1. File > Import > Import Video
    2. Selecting Videos (I've tried converting both .mov and .m4v files)
    3. Selecting "Progressive download from a web server"
    4. Choosing Flash 8 - High Quality (700kbps) profile
    --- Under Video > Video codec the only two options I have are On2 VP6 or Sorenson Spark
    Does this help? Please let me know if there's something more specific that would help answer the question. I'm technically competent, but new to video conversion.
    Thanks for the help.

  • How can I batch process CR2 raw files to tif's without losing color adjustments?

    Working in BRidge and Photoshop CS6:
    I have 160 color adjusted hi-res CR2 RAW files from my photographer, thought I was getting tifs. I need tifs for my INdesign file. I tried using the photoshop image proecessor through brige by selecting all my images and then saving as TIFFs but I am losing all my color correcting? Is there a way to save these out as tiffs as a group and not one at a time? I also might have lost my color correcting when I copies them all to one folder as well...not sure what is happening except now my great product shots look like crap. Please help.

    Simply drag the entire folder through Bridge—or even individual files—the invisible xmp files containing your adjustments will automatically and invisibly travel along with the image files, as long as you do it within Bridge, not through the OS.
    Otherwise, you would need to set your Mac OS to always make invisible files visible, and you don't want that hassle.
    Just use Bridge to move files around or to copy them to a new folder.
    Incidentally, there's a dedicated Adobe Bridge forum:

  • Photo Files Losing Color when placing in INDD...

    Hi, using INDD CS6,I am noticing my jpg files are losing some of their color information when I link them into INDD, I am doing a photo book, and the colors really need to be preserved. It's almost like they are being compressed a little in INDD similar to what we see on compressed PDF output.  I have check my color spaces, etc, all seem to be good and consistent between the apps. I am attaching a screen shot where I overlaid the same jpg displayed in preview next to the same file linked to in INDD.
    Thank you.

    A few things at play here, I think.  First, do you see the the little red dot with the question mark in the upper left of the frame in ID? That means the link is missing. ID can't do a proper preview if it can't find the link.  Second, ID is color managed. As far as I know, Preview is not. A more accurate check would be against the image in Photoshop.  Third, you've got a drop shadow. I suspect the Image is RGB and the transparency blend space is set to CMYK.  Fourth, you are, indeed, looking at a compressed preview, not the actual pixels. The quality of the preview depends on the settings (display quality) and the size/resolution ratio at which the image was saved.

  • Losing Audio While Importing DV - Missing Clips

    I am new to imovie. I just bought a Sony HC-42 miniDV camera and am using it in "passthru" mode to import old 8mm tapes from my old camcorder.
    I had no problems with my first tape, but now I keep having crashes. One interesting phenomena is that I keep losing the audio during playback of any imovie project. I can only rectify this by rebooting the computer. This keeps happening without a consistent trigger. HELP. Also, I noticed that I mysteriously lost the first clip in the project???
    I am using imovie 3.0.3. I am importing to a new external HD using firewire 400.

    Hi Mark
    What's comes first to my mind is:
    I don't daisychain Camera - ext hard disc - Mac.
    I would try to import but with the external hard disc disconnected. If this
    works OK then You know that Your Mac is on the boarder of what it can
    handle.
    I use QT 6.5.2 with Mac OS X.3.9. If You upgraded to QT 7 that can be
    another source to problems.

  • Applying spot color to imported graphic

    Hello, I'm hoping someone can help me. I used to use Pagemaker, and it was so quick and easy to import a B/W graphic and apply spot color to it from the color palette, but when I try to do this in ID (CS3), it either just adds color to the outline of the bounding box or fills the bounding box with color and leaves the actual logo graphic black (happens with either eps or tif). I've been trying to find the right way to apply color to an import through the InDesign Help Center, but I haven't been able to find anything that seems to help, and I need to be able to do this soon!! Can anyone please give me some tips about how to handle this type of situation? Much thanks and appreciation to anyone who can help!

    Thanks for both of your replies, but unfortunately, what you have both suggested is exactly what I've been doing, and nothing happens. And dragging the swatch onto the graphic hasn't done anything either. I've tried with both tif and eps files, but nothing happens with either kind of file. Anybody have any other ideas or help you can give?

    Can't thank you enough.
    I had been away from FCP and DVD SP for awhile and that can cause a loss of memory.
    Your answer triggered my brain to export the finished project in FCP as a QT movie to my external drive and from there to DVD SP.
    I also have forgotten most of the French I once knew as well.

  • Losing color when uploading to lab

    I have been using aperture for a 1 year. I just recently noticed that when I upload my photo to a pro lab my photo loses the color adjustments in my photos. It picks up some of the adjustment made in color efx, but vibrancy etc is lost. I have check my ICC profiles and what my export setting. Does anyone have a reason for this?

    Let me ask this another way - how did you make the file you are selecting to upload within Aperture ?
    Where did the file come from? Did you export it from Aperture? What export setting did you use?
    first of all, thanks again for your reply and time.
    * Canon 40D, images are take in RAW format (very large files)
    * i then do any post processing that is necessary
    * Costco does not accept RAW files
    I export the file from aperture 2 folder ( i do not use any other software for photography)
    My next experiment is to create a CD/DVD of the images I wish to print - omit the online process, go to the lab and use their computer to upload the files.
    RB, i just don't understand they I am losing quality in the prints.
    As i shared earlier, the lab is aware that there is a problem (has been a problem) with Aperture 2 and print quality. I am just hoping that there is a solution. In the past, the Costco printing lab has been really good and cost effective.
    thank again

  • Incorrect colors after importing a RAW image into LR

    I shoot in RAW mode using Canon EOS 400D.
    After importing RAW images into LR, EVERY image I shot gets oversaturated with green-yellow colors. If I open same image in C1 Pro colors look fine.
    If I change shooting mode on my camera to JPG (using sRGB color space) and import image into LR, colors look same as on RAW image in C1 Pro. All settings in LR and C1 Pro are set to default.
    My guess is that LR applies wrong (camera?) profile when it imports a RAW image. I don't think it's a difference in RAW converters, because the difference in colors is really huge.
    In the Camera Calibration panel I see ACR 3.6 profile selected and all settings are set to 0. Using sliders I can correct colors on image, but I failed to make a generic preset that could be applied on all imported RAW images.
    My monitor (Samsung 940BF) is setup to use manufacturer ICC profile. I tried to change it to sRGB or Adobe RGB, it doesn't help. I'm running Windows XP SP2.
    Any thoughts on how to return colors back to normal?
    Here are 2 examples of the same image converted by:
    1. LR

    Morey,
    there is no such options as "import settings into LR" you have to put the ACR-settings-file into the "~/Library/Adobe Lightroom/Develop Presets" folder (on a Mac). I think in the end its faster to just copy the numbers manually from ACR and save the preset from within LR.
    No, I don't think that calibrating has anything to do with profiles, at least not from what I understand as a profile (like sRGB or ProPhoto profile). It is kind of changing the stored default calibration values for a given camera type (something which one of course could also call a profile). It is definitive not like doing any double profiling or so.
    @Lee Jay,
    on different forums you can find values for ACR camera calibration of different cameras, googling should reveal some. Problem is that the numbers for the calibration change with the lens and, more important, there seems to be a lot of leeway regarding the behaviour of individual cameras of the same model. I found a lot of numbers on the net which didn't work with my D70, in the end I had to calibrate it myself. But your experience might differ, so I would suggest that you just have a look at what google offers.
    One last thing: You don't need to buy a PS version which is compatible with ACR 3.7 or 4.0. You can use the 30 day trial version of PS for this. Afterall you most probably only need to calibrate each camera once and I doubt that Adobe disapproves this use of a trial version as long as it helps to sell LR. ;-)
    Bye,

  • Incorrect colors after importing a Canon XTI RAW image into LR

    I've been using LR for about a week now and love it. However, it does a poorer job of rendering RAW images (and therefore also exporting to JPG) than Canon's Digital Photo Professional. LR image have a sickly yellow+green for skin tones vs. Canon's images, which are more Red.
    I've tried every combination of compensating for this by twiddling with white-balance settings, Hue, Saturation etc. but have been unsuccessful in getting the images to look as gorgeous as Canon's Digital Photo Pro does out-of-the-box. That's, of course, extremely frustrating since I like LR's features so much better. Help! Has anyone solved this? I've seen similar postings on various web sites (eg. www.dpreview.com), but no one seems to have a solution yet!
    Thanks.

    Yes, I've tried various suggested solutions in this forum and others. The problem is that so far they have all been one-of solutions. ie. if I spend about 30+ mins on a given picture, I can make it look like what Canon's Digital Photo Professional does right off the bat. Additionally, the presets that I've seen recommend only seem to work for a given lighting condition. When the light is even slightly different, the resulting preset processed LR image ends up over-corrected or generally looking unappealing.
    Here is an example that shows I'm still struggling with this issue. Here are examples of pictures: http://public.fotki.com/eshwars/lr-issues/ All I did to get the JPG image was the following:
    1. Opened the CR2 file in DPP, "Convert and Save" with Image Quality=10, Output Resolution=350 dpi. Output image is named: DPP_20070408_4038.JPG
    2. Imported and opened the very same CR2 file in LR. Used "Export Photos" to JPG. Image quality=100, Color space=sRGB, Resolution=350dpi. Output image is named: LR_20070408_4038.jpg
    3. I tried "compensating" for LR based on suggestion in another forum by modifying the Camera Calibration settings in LR. Hue=-40, Saturation=+10. I've tried other values as well, but it just doesn't look as good as DPP does by default. Output image is named: LR_20070408_4038_compensated.jpg
    I would greatly appreciate some pointers that does not require me to custom-fixup every image.
    The editing capabilities of LR are wonderful (!), but if the end-result simply looks not-so-pleasing for Canon RAW images, it simply wouldn't be practical to use for Canon users. :(

  • New JAI tools GIFImageWriter -- losing color info

    Hi --
    I'm a newbie trying to take advantage of the new GIFImageWriter packaged in the JAI IIO tools distribution. I'm trying to use it to convert JPG to GIF. The problem is that my output file comes out as a bare black and white rendering. Can anyone spot my mistake in the following code? ( // lines are various options I've tried that have same effect)
    Thanks!
    David Lieberman
    String inFilename = args[0];
    String outFilename = args[1];
    BufferedImage bImage1;
    BufferedImage bImage2;
    File fileIn = new File(inFilename);
    File out = new File(outFilename);
    bImage1 = ImageIO.read(fileIn);
    //Color color = bImage1.createGraphics().getColor();
    Color color = bImage1.getGraphics().getColor();
    IndexColorModel colorModel = new IndexColorModel(8, 2,
            new byte[]{(byte) (color.getRed() - 1), (byte) color.getRed()},
            new byte[]{0, (byte) color.getGreen()},
            new byte[]{0, (byte) color.getBlue()}, 0);
    ColorConvertOp ccOp = new ColorConvertOp(bImage1.getColorModel().getColorSpace(), colorModel.getColorSpace(), null);
    bImage2 = new BufferedImage(bImage1.getWidth(),
            bImage1.getHeight(),
            BufferedImage.TYPE_BYTE_INDEXED,
            colorModel);
    Graphics2D g2d = bImage2.createGraphics();
    //g2d.drawImage(bImage1, 0, 0, bImage1.getWidth(), bImage1.getHeight(), null);
    //g2d.drawRenderedImage(bImage1, null);
    g2d.drawImage(bImage1, ccOp, 0,0);
    ImageIO.write(bImage2, "gif", out);

    Hi David,
    The main problem with JAI IIO GIFImageWriter is that it doesn't contain any color quantizer and as a result can't encode images with number of unique colors more then 256.
    As I understand you've tried to to resample image's palette but I can't imagine where you've found such example: it's totally wrong. There are some special color quantization algorithms to reduce the number of unique colors such as Median-Cut, Octree etc. You can find their Java implementations (some of them open-source) using Google.
    We use for this purposes the commercial solutions from Gif4J Software. If speed and quality is critical for you then try the Gif4J PRO Library (http://www.gif4j.com/java-gif-imaging-gif4j-pro-library.htm). It contains very fast and qualitative java color quantizer and also supports ImageIO API. The next example convert jpeg (or any other true-color format) to gif using Gif4J PRO library by 3 different ways:
    import com.gif4j.GifEncoder;
    import com.gif4j.quantizer.Quantizer;
    import javax.imageio.ImageIO;
    import java.awt.image.BufferedImage;
    import java.io.File;
    import java.io.IOException;
    public class ImageIOExample {
        public static void main(String[] args) {
            try {
                BufferedImage source = ImageIO.read(new File(args[0]));
                // 1-st example:
                // save as GIF using ImageIO (Gif4J jar should be in classpath)
                // Gif4J Quantizer is used by default
                ImageIO.write(source, "gif", new File(args[1]));
                //2-nd example:
                //Quantize image manually with the desired mode
                BufferedImage quantized_1 =
                        Quantizer.quantize(Quantizer.MEMORY_NORMAL_OPTIMIZED_DITHER, source, 8);
                ImageIO.write(quantized_1, "gif", new File(args[2]));
                //3-d example:
                // Use Gif4 GifEncoder instead of ImageIO and other quantization mode
                BufferedImage quantized_2 =
                        Quantizer.quantize(Quantizer.MEMORY_NORMAL_FAST, source, 8);
                GifEncoder.encode(quantized_2, new File(args[3]));
            } catch (IOException e) {
                e.printStackTrace();
    }
