Losing connection to Airport Extreme/internet daily.

It sounds as though I am not the only one having problems with the Airport Extreme lately. I was running without any problems until about a week ago. For some reason or other I lost connection to the Airport and internet. I ran diagnostics and any other reboot until I finally had to reset the Airport to the factory settings by pushing/holding the button on the back. It has now happened every day this week. After I reset and rebuild my network the next day it's gone.
I'm running 7.4.1 firmware and 5.4.2 Airport Utility--There are earlier versions of firmware listed in the utility but I don't know whether or not to revert back.
Does anyone have any suggestions? I'm getting really tired of resetting.

ok, after resetting and restarting dsl modem and laptop i tried the following:
System Preferences > Network > Airport > Advanced
Removed my preferered network
And again added it
Ok
Apply
Turned Airport Off and On
and i was up again. btw i had a connection but activity monitor was showing me i was not or hardly receiving data, now it is...
hope it helps for you!

  • Losing connection to AirPort Extreme/internet

It has been going on for about a week now.. but its just weird. I will be surfing and then notice the light on my AirPort Extreme blinking amber........ then after a minute or 2 it goes green. It will do this almost all day? Is it the router? is it Comcast? Is someone else messing with my wireless connection?
I HAVE NO IDEA WHAT IS GOING ON.......
I have 2 machines hardwired to my AirPort Extreme and I use the wireless for my XBOX360
What do I need to do to correct this issue?
It is driving me crazy when I am surfing online and playing the XBOX 360

I too keep losing my internet connection. i bought an aiport extreme a few weeks ago. Prior to this I was using a cheap sparkcom 4 port ADSL wireless router and NEVER lost the internet connection in several years of use. But not any more. The extreme plugs into an X modem and thence into a BT line. The imac has an ethernet connection to the extreme. The internet connection just keeps failing, eg Sunday morning on the web not trouble for several hours, then BAM connection with internet fails and no more internet for rest of day. Several calls to ISP who blame the router.
Now I just use the modem to connect to the net, router is boxed up and ready to return to apple store.
Like other posters here, its is driving me crazy. Help lines often just talk gobbledegook, why oh why is connecting a computer to the internet so excrutiatingly difficult? I have wasted HOURS, no, DAYS of my life trying to solve internet connection problems. I thought the move to all APPLE products would make everything plain sailing, but apparently not.

  • Macbook Pro losing connection to Airport Extreme

I have a Macbook Pro running OS X Yosemite ver 10.10.3 connecting to an Airport Extreme. The connection between the AirPort and the Mac is randomly dropping causing me to lose WiFi. I have other devices (iPad, Lenovo Thinkpad) connected to the Airport extreme and they are not having any problems maintaining wifi connectivity.
Any thoughts on what the problem might be? Or is there an app I can download to diagnose the problems?

Diagnostics will tell you directly if you have a major issue.. It will list them for you.
Within the diagnostics there is a utility.. Since I consider Yosemite the major problem of all networking I have avoided wireless issues by avoiding Yosemite.. very simple really.. stick to earlier OS.
However if you use the utility it might show you something that is happening.. otherwise it is pure Yosemite.. bad drivers.. bad install (please clean install if you upgrade installed and then started having issues).. Network wise you can fix it.. but the method is arcane.
    http://arstechnica.com/apple/2015/01/why-dns-in-os-x-10-10-is-broken-and-what-yo u-can-do-to-fix-it/
Apple ruined the dns app in Yosemite.. hence at least why it is unfixable. DNS is key to how networks function now.. !! You cannot leave it broken and expect reliable network operation.

  • Losing connection to airport extreme everyday

Shortly after it was launched, I bought a Airport Extreme ac. After some time configuring it, I was able to get the job done. However, the following day I started to have a problem with it, and it is always the same problem.
For no reason, the connection seems to drop on my iPhone, Mac and a windows PC a few times a day. The network is visible but the devices ask to re-enter the password, and when I insert it says that it is incorrect. The problem is definitely the router because when the problem is on one device, it is on the others.
For the problem I found two solutions. One is to reset the router and configure an all new network, and do that everyday makes no sense. The other is to wait for an hour or two, sometimes more, because the devices connect to the router suddenly, without asking to re-enter the password.
I kept upgrading the router with the latest firmware and airport utility software, but the problem persisted.
Can anyone help me? When working the router is brilliant...really fast, but this is really annoying.

  • Internet connection via Airport Extreme/router thats not working, why?

I have been having problems with the internet connection via Airport Extreme which I find it a bit unusual and its still driving me nuts! This is what happened:
I have lost my internet connection last Sunday evening upon my return from a weekend away from home. The last time I have used the internet connection on my macbook was the previous Friday morning. Prior to the apparent disconnection on Sunday, I have always used my internet connection wirelessly through Airport Extreme (that is connected via ethernet cable to the NETGEAR DG834v2 ADSL modem which had worked beautifully until the problem arose on my return). This wireless internet connection allowed me to surf the internet anywhere in my home.
However, upon the successful re-connection to the internet via the modem router, I have discovered several new problems. I have tried to set up the internet connection wirelessly again but instead the following happened:
    1. Router (Netgear) drops ADSL connection and cannot reconnect when connected to airport via Ethernet. (which is the case when using airport wireless).
    2. Router connects to ADSL fine when computer is connected to it via Ethernet. (However, router disconnects when magsafe power adapter is taken out for some inexplicable reason!)
    3. Router connects to ADSL fine when nothing is connected to the router (ie. No Ethernet connections)
    4. Router connects to ADSL fine when connected to airport via Ethernet and computer is connected to airport via Ethernet.
So from the above, I cannot connect to the internet properly whether wirelessly or not so I suspect it could be faulty router or could it be airport extreme? I have asked my ISP for an explanation and all they have said is that it cannot be the mis-configuration but could be to do with the power adaptors or the way plugs are set up and suggested I take out all the power plugs (and power surge protector) out to switch everything off, the macbook, router, printer and airport extreme. However, when I have re-plugged them all back in, the problems I have described above still persists!
Would appreciate any help if anyone here recognises why this is the case and what seems to be the cause of this. If so, what should I do? Though I have written back to my ISP again yesterday for more help so im waiting to hear from them...
    Thanks

  • Old ibook connected to Airport extreme on Intel iMac looses internet.

For the third time in a year since I got my new iMac Intel Core Duo machine the wireless connection between it and my old 2001 ibook (with and external USB --afterthemac.com) wireless device has lost the internet connection for the ibook. I am using the iMac as a airport base station with my iBook and it has worked flawlessly for most of the time since Feb when I got my new iBook but this is now the third time (for no apparent obvious reason to me) that while the System Preferences for the USB wireless device show a 70-75 strength connection via airport my internet (entourage email, safari browser) and wireless printing are all dead.
The last two times it happened I did a permissions fix on the iBook (nothing happened) and then reinstalled the driver for the USB wireless dongle. And I got the internet and printing through the printer on my iMac back. This did not work this time. I am set to Automatic in my Network preferences and am using use DCHP and have an ip address and such that are dynamically assigned. -- that still shows.
I have also rebooted my iMac, stopped and restarted airport on my iMac "base station" (afer a minute) and still no internet but the system preferences still show a wireless connection. I have run out of ideas to connect and wonder what else I a missing but some sites I have looked talk about the mysterious loss of inernet (while wireless appears to be working fine).
What is really weird is I also tested a Zen-Cart-MySQL server running on my localnet of my iMac and I actually got a connection of sorts by my ibook (once) today. It displayed the text portion of my Zen-Cart test screen but no graphics -- did not work next time. So it appears I almost have a connection of sorts with my iMac from my iBook but definately not an internet connection.
One final note, my new Intel iMac is connected to my cable modem via an old Netgear router (which is working fine for the iMac). I do not suspect there is any reason for this to be the problem since the ibook is using the shared connection of the iMac. But thought I would mention.
The ibook as I mentioned is the old 2001 dual USB model (white) it has only about 400 MB ram, a 10GB HD (but works great for email and web browsing for my wife). It has OS X 10.4.4, I have not bothered upgrading it any further because the HD has only about 2 GB of space free and other than this now third time of losing the internet connection it has worked fine and I hate to mess up this email/web machine my wife uses.
So if anyone has ideas of where I can go next to troubleshoot I would appreciate it.
    Thanks

Ok appears I solved my problem but not sure why.
While I was posting this around I stumbled on a solution so my question is why. I read somehwere about rebooting the router even thoug it is connected to the iMac and my internet works fine there. Well I rebooted that and the internet for my ibook came back instantly. So since the ibook is sharing the imac connection to my cable modem via rouer using the airport on the iMac why would the router block my iBook and not iMac that is directly wired to the old router (it is not a wireless router)
I want to learn why this now works so I can deal with it more effectively in future.
    Thanks,

  • Sent wake-on-lan command will reset airport extreme internet connection?

    hi,
I have a problem with my airport extreme.
1, My airport extreme is set always stay connected to internet.  If I reboot my airport extreme, it can not update my airport extreme global host name to my DNS, I need to reconnect manually.
2, if I sent a wol command to my NAS, airport extreme internet connection will be reset. it can not update my airport extreme global host name to my DNS, I need to reconnect manually.

    Derek-
Since I could not find an answer on the support site. I contacted Apple Support. Once I explained the symptoms the tech seemed to know exactly how to address my issue. I will explain what happened in hopes that it will assist you. It seems that the issue has to do with the type of wireless network security set up in the Airport Extreme that conflicted with the Vista notebook's wireless adapter.
The tech had me launch Airport Utility, log into the Airport and Click on the Wireless. First he had me change the Radio Channel Selection from Automatic to Manual and changed the 2.4 GHz channel to 9 (from default 11) and the 5 Ghz channel to 157. The wireless security was set to WPA/WPA2 and he had me change it to WEP (Transitional Security Network) and I entered a 13 character key.
This resolved the internet connection issue with the Vista laptop immediately, but now I cannot print to my wireless Lexmark printer. I have a support email to Lexmark. It seems that the Lexmark driver/software only lists WPA in the install dialog and does not include WEP. My guess is that this is the source of the problem.
    I hope this helps.

  • How do I connect my Airport Extreme 802.11n to Epson 645 Printer?

I can't figure out how to connect my Airport Extreme 802.11n to my Epson 645 Printer.  Can anyone help me?  Thanks!

You may want to try reinstalling Mavericks. Airport Utility installed by Mavericks may no longer connect to your older AEBS (though I've not heard that.) Installing the Old AirPort Utility (Version 5.6) on Mountain Lion | frank.is.
Reinstall Lion, Mountain Lion, or Mavericks
Boot to the Recovery HD: Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the
COMMAND and R keys until the Utilities menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and
after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears.
Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions: Upon startup select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu.
Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions as follows.
After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion, Mavericks: Select ReinstallLion/Mountain Lion, Mavericks from
the Utilities menu, and click on the Continue button.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible because it is
                    three times faster than wireless.

how do I connect my airport extreme to windows 8.1

Connect an Ethernet cable between the U-verse router's LAN port to the WAN (circle-of-dots) port on the AirPort Extreme Base Station (AEBS). Since you will have two routers in series, you will want to reconfigure the AEBS as a bridge. • Devices not connecting through Airport extreme wired connection

    Hi
I just got an Airport extreme to use as an extention of my existing network, and to plug some devices in so that they can connect to the internet for updates (Sony Blu-ray player, dish network receiver, slingbox)...
my wireless is from a linksys/cisco wireless router (4-port) wrt310n, that is connected to my cable modem. The airport is set and has the green light showing. The blu-ray player and dishnetwork receiver are plugged into two of the ports. The blu-ray player says it can't connect to the internet. The dish network receiver says it is connected, giving ip address/submask, etc.
If I take my macbook pro and turn off wireless and plug into the airport it will not connect to the internet.
What have I not done to allow wired connection to the airport extreme to connect to the net?
    thanks
    David

Thanks for the clarification of your setup.
Unfortunately, the bottom line here is that this is not going to work.
The ethernet ports on the Extreme will only be active if you configure the AirPort Extreme to "extend a wireless network". But, it can only "extend" a wireless network from another Apple router. It's not compatible for this purpose with your Cisco router or any other manufacturer's router.
If you are unable to connect the AirPort Extreme to your router using an ethernet cable, you might want to take a look at a pair of ethernet powerline adapters to accomplish the same task by using the wiring in your home to transmit the ethernet signal.
I should clarify that if you connect the Cisco and AirPort Extreme using ethernet, you would not use the "extend" setting on the AirPort Extreme. This is only used if the device is connecting to another Apple router.

  • Unable to connect to Airport Extreme since installing Mountain Lion

Unable to connect to Airport Extreme since installing Mountain Lion. If I go to Finder > Shared I can see it listed but then when I go to connect to it won't. I can see it in Airport Utility and connect to the internet but when I try and connect to the base station to use my hard drive / printer it won't connect?
Tech Support tried saying it could be the devices attached don't have an update for them yet but doesn't explain why I can't connect to the base station. In their defence I can see it in airport utility so the base station does work with the OS X
However I've just tried connecting by an ethernet cable and connects fine?

    Ok .
Power down the base station (Mine is connected to a 4 way so i down powered base station, printer and hard drive) powered back up and now when I go to finder then look at the shared section I can view my files on the base station.
    Hope this helps

Do I need to connect the AirPort Extreme with a ethnet cable

    Hi Tracy,
I have an airport express connected by ethernet cable to a Netgear modem which is connected to a phone socket. Those devices stay at one end of the house. I can use my MacBook Pro to connect to the internet (by Wi-Fi, no cables) anywhere else in the house.  I hope this helps.

Imac will not connect to Airport Extreme when configured WPA/WPA2

I just got my Imac to connect to the internet using my Airport Extreme but only by using WEP. I had my Windows XP SP2 machines connecting using WPA/WPA2 with no problem. The Imac will not connect using anything other than WEP, and 1 of the XP machines will not connect using WEP.(I have not tried the other XP machines) I had to set the Airport Extreme for an open network in order to let both computers access the shared hard drive and access the internet.
I don't know what the problem might be and would appreciate any suggestions.
MacBookPro, Imac   Mac OS X (10.3.9)   Fujitsu tablet PC, 2 XP desktops

hehe...on the visuals. I figured it out already, and I have the old airport card. However, I did a chat with Apple support and while we were chatting I found a USB adapter with MAC drivers which will work. It is:
Hawking Technology HWUG1A Wireless-G USB Adapter with Removable Antenna for Macintosh
    Manufacturer Part# HWUG1A
That is the only adapter that actually does WPA/WPA2 that I can find that is for a Mac and not just an older USB that only does WEP. It surprises me that Apple does not have a USB product like this. Anyway, for $56 including shipping, I will have it by Monday or Tuesday. Pretty cool.
Thank you so much for your assistance. It is appreciated.
