Losing connection to iTunes / Network

I continue to have the same problem over and over and am hoping someone can assist. The ATV continues to lose it's wireless connection to the network/iTunes. Only way back is to reset the router and ATV; it will then stream anything just fine. It will sometimes work for a couple of days and then just lose the connection. When it is working, I can put the ATV in standby, shut down the computer and start it back up and it will still work no problem.
Has anyone had this happen to them where it keeps losing the connection? It's not an interference issue so I'm not sure what else to try.
Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks all.

  • Apple TV losing connection with iTunes on Windows

I am running iTunes on both an HP MediaSmart Windows Home Server (WHS) and a newly installed Windows Vista system.  I have multiple Apple TV's around the house - both ATV2's and ATV3's.
I was using the MediaSmart Server as my main iTunes server for Apple TV streaming.  That was the system's only function.  Unfortunately, I was constantly restarting iTunes and/or the system as my Apple TV's would lose connection to home sharing.  I thought WHS was the problem so I set up an unused computer to install Windows Vista (only license I had laying around) and installed iTunes.  Everything seemed to work fine for a few days then I started losing connection to that iTunes also.  I turned off the WHS system thinking it was causing the other iTunes to choke.  That did not help.
For reference, All of my computers are hard wired and I have some ATV's that are hard wired and some that are using wireless.  Wired or wireless....the problem still exists.  Also, I have competely disabled anti-virus and the firewall on both iTunes servers.
I can watch multiple movies at one sitting.  However, if iTunes is idle overnight (or even for a few hours it seems), my Apple TV's can not re-connect to home sharing and I need to restart iTunes.
Last night I disabled the AppleMobileDeviceHelper and the iPodService services hoping that would help.  I have not had a chance to fully test this out yet, but did stumble across quite a few posts where MANY others are having tjhis same issue.  Many are saying it has to do with the ATV3's sleep mode.  If I recall correctly, my major problems did seem to start about the time I got my first ATV3.  When I get home tonight I will disable the sleep mode on all of my ATV's.
Here is the question...just in case that works:  Is powering off the device by holding down the play button the same as allowing the device to "sleep"?  I ask because I use Harmony remotes and I have programmed them to power off the Apple TV when turning off all devices.
As I said, I have multiple ATV's (7 to be exact - 3 ATV3's and 4 ATV2's) and would hate to leave them all on all the time just to fix this problem.
Any feedback would be appreciated.  It is difficult to discern a solid solution from the 400,000 other posts on this topic.
    Thanks.

Sorry, I updated another thread I was a part of but didn't update my own thread.....ughhh!
I updated all of my ATV 2's and 3's to the latest firmware when it was released and have been problem free since. I do believe the major issue of not being able to connect after a period of inactivity has been corrected with the latest ATV firmware.
I can look at my network connection table using "netstat -an" in a CMD window and I do not see the massive number of connections I saw before the update.
Here is a link to the other thread I was referring to above:

Have you applied the latest firmware updates to your ATV 3's?

  • Keep losing Connection between iTunes and Express

I have Express, used exclusively to play music through powered speakers. However, my eMac and MacBook Pro iTunes keep losing connection to the Express. I have repeatedly reset the Express, get the connection back temporarily, then lose it again. I use a Netgear NEXT Wireless-N router and I do not see a setting that might solve this problem.
Anyone have an answer? Should I set the router to have Express use a particular Port?

Okay guys, I've got it with the help of Michael at Apple tech support (great customer service experience today--thanks Apple): It took some time to diagnosis the problem, but the solution we found was that it was actually two problems relating to interference:
    1. Change the channel: The network (changed it in Time Capsule as the AE is connected to that network) channel was set to 6, which is a common one that many routers default to. We set it to 9 and that improved it a lot, but not all the way, and he suggested trying some other channels to find the channel with the least interference in the area.
    2. Cordless 2.4 GHz cordless phone: We unplugged it and it's seemed to solve the interference problem almost perfectly (it's just cutting out for a second here and there every few minutes--compared to before for several minutes and only playing for a few seconds). He suggested getting a 6.0 GHz phone to bypass the interference, which is likely what I'll do. I'll also try relocating the phones base station and see if that makes any difference. Either way, after several hours of trying to figure it out it's nice to be listening to my music!
If I find out anything else I'll post it here.

  • My Apple TV is losing connection to my network

I've had the Apple TV 2 for several months, and it's been working flawlessly until a couple of weeks ago, when it started losing connection to my home network. In other words, I turn it on and I can't use it until I reconnect to my wi-fi password, etc. This never happened at all until a week or two ago, and it's happening nearly every day--once I reconnect it's fine, but the next day or so I have to re-enter my wi-fi password, a major annoyance. I have a feeling my router may be experiencing some problems, but still wondered if anyone else has this problem and if so, how it was resolved. In the past if I had any operational problem, just unplugging it and plugging it back in works fine, but this is a completely different issue, one of connectivity, and seems specific to the Apple TV and not necessarily any of my other internet devices. Once reconnected, BTW, all my previous settings seem to be intact.
    Thanks.

I'm having the same trouble as the OP, started around the same time.  AppleTV 2nd gen losing wifi PW about once a day.
    *  The only recent infrastructure change was me converting from ISP-provided wifi (2.4ghz "G") to an Airport Extreme (5ghz "N").  That's been working perfectly since April, and this ATV2 problem started only a couple of weeks ago (early July)
    *  I am the only 5ghz user around here.  Yes, I checked with inSSIDer.  Yes my PC is on the 5ghz band too.
    *  I haven't actually timed it, but it seems to happen almost exactly 24 hours apart - in my case it happens during the hour I'm out walking.
    *  I don't believe it's associated with sleep mode.  Mine is set to 4 hours, and:
---  I can pause a TV show, go walk for an hour, then come back and it's d/c'ed
---  I can pause a TV show after a reconnect, go to sleep for the night, wake up, wake the ATV2, and it resumes with no problems.

  • Wireless losing connection to wired network and lan

I have a customer that has an 871W ISR. They are using WEP encryption and a mix of b and g cards. Recently they have started losing connection to all of their wired network resources and the wan, but they don't lose association with the 871W itself. They show excellent signal strangth and keep their IPs. A reboot of the router immediately fixes the problem. There seems to be no pattern or common event that triggers any of this. Anyone else seen this problem before? It started happening after I did a sh tech and the router locked up halfway through it, so I had to reboot. I've reloaded the image thinking that may fix the problem and it has not.

You can clear the interface statistics on the Detailed Status tab, and let traffic run for a time, then refresh the statistics. The ratio of errors to good packets sent and received should be better than it was prior to the test.

My wifes 9550 keeps losing connection to the BES network. Happens about once or twice a month. She is not a power user and doesnt install / add anything. It has happened since she got it back in NOV. I updated her to 607 when that was releaed....thinking it might help (Havent pushed her to 713 yet). But it still happens!! Again today it did. She wont get emails etc till it connects.
Shes not doing anything strange.. the little 4 dots next to 3G just disappear. I have the same phone, we are both on VZ... and I have had no issues like this.

  • Losing Connection to the Network

    Hello all,
For several years I have had problems with getting disconnected while playing video games whenever someone calls.  Now I am having the problem but nobody is calling it just kicks me offline for no reason.  I thought the problem before was that my phone and wireless were the same Ghz (2.4) but now that the phone isn't causing interference I don't know what is. My Router is a broadband 2.4 GHz Wireless-G router - Model # WRT54GS.  I also have a AARIS Touchstone Telephony Modem that Comcast gave us.  The problem that I thought I solved was by adding in a linksys Wireless-G Range Expander so that the connection could go from my room upstairs down to my basement, this is not the case anymore.  I seem to be able to play for 20 minutes or so but then it says I do not have connection to the network, the only things I can think of are:
    1. We need a new router, this one is old and outdated.
    2. With no password on our connection someone is using it and causing too much activity. If that's the case should I get rid of the expander and or add a password?
Thanks for any of your help or suggestions.

Also change the channel on the router's wireless to 11. This is the least used frequency.
Also keep your phone away from the router. Can't tell you how many calls I got because of cordless phone interference when I worked tech support

  • WRE54G losing connection to Wireless Network?

I sent this to [email protected], and I was kindly informed that the service had been discontinued and I should probably redirect over here.  Yay.  Anyway, here's the deal, anybody with any ideas would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks!
I recently purchased a Linksys WRE54G Wireless Extender to extend a wireless network. I attempted the Auto Configuration, but after holding the side button for 5 seconds and releasing, all I saw was a red light and a blue light - upon moving the extender to a point at the edge of my network, I tried connecting to it, but could not. I then connected the Extender to the wireless router (A D-Link) with the network cable and completed the Manual Configuration. I had to change the device's assigned IP address from 192.168.0.x to 192.168.1.x, but once I did that and positioned the extender in a room where my computer was recieving 3/5 signal strength, I could connect to the wireless network at a much greater distance than I had been able to before, indicating that the extender was working. The Extender worked great for 18 hours or so, at which point I could no longer access the Internet. My network properties still show 3/5 or 4/5 connection strength, so I am connecting to the extender fine, but the Extender now shows one red and one blue light again. I attempted the Automatic Configuration again from this point, but all I get is one solid blue and one flashing red/blue, which after about 5 seconds turns solid red. I try repairing my connection at my computer, but I am not being assigned an IP address.
Any ideas? Is the extender too far away from the router? I find this hard to believe since it is located in a position where my computer recieves 3/5 - 5/5 signal strength.
The router is equipped with an aftermarket Hawking amplified 500 mW omnidirectional signal booster, could this be causing interference to the extender which is located ~40' directly across (line-of-sight through 2 windows) a courtyard? I have not tried unplugging this and reattaching the OEM antenna to the D-Link router.
I'd be glad to accept any ideas, since I've been working on extending this wireless network (its at a hotel) for a while now with very little success, and the WRE54G product has had by far the most promise of several tries.
    Thank you for the help!

Nope, can't have that. You either don't have RE configured right or some 2.4 gHz interference broke the connection to your router. The red link indicates that the RE is NOT connected to your network.  I thought you said that it was working for 18 hours.  Did you try the power cycle to restore all network connections and resetting your preferred networks? If you can't ping the RE and you can't access the RE webpage, you first have to get it connected to the network first. You can follow the steps in this post rather than the "autoconfig" method, which is not that reliable.
    http://forums.linksys.com/linksys/board/message?board.id=Range_Expanders&thread.id=692
The instructions will be a bit different in your case cuz you indicated the d-link router IP addy is 192.168.0.1. Most routers are 192.168.1.1. So you should set the RE IP addy at 192.168.0.240. Post back if you have any difficulties doing a step.
Edit: Try this instead if power cycle doesn't work. Press the reset button in for 30 sec with paper clip to restore factory default. Then bring the RE close to the router again and press the "auto-config" button til the link blue light is constant. Then position it where you want it. If RE disconnects again, you might have it too far from the router or that antenna might be interfering.
Edit 2: Read the first post closer and saw you manually config-ed RE once already. You should not use the auto-config button anymore. You definitely need to reset and start over with the manual config.

  • Losing connection to wireless network

I have a new (spring of 2013) AE connected to my Cisco Enterprise wireless network It has worked in the past, recently has had difficulty in connecting. Now, it will connect to the wireless, is visible and responsive to the Airport Utility - until I connect iTunes on either my MacBook Air or my iPad - either of which will cause the AE to kick off the network within about 30 seconds of beginning to play music. Sometimes I can get it to reconnect to the network by unplugging and then plugging back in, sometimes I have to reset to factory default and then re-provision.
I tried setting IPv6 to link-only, as suggested in community, this did not seem to help.
The log messages seems to indicate a sync time out issue with the iTunes device (computer or iPad).
    Any thoughts? Thanks in advance.

Sounds like you are not connecting to the correct network.  Let say you called your network ORLANDO.  You should see ORLANDO in view your network connections. Also, if you would click on view workgroups computers, you should see all your computers listed.  You will have to log on to your router and make sure everything is set up properly.  XP default is MSHOME.
I have had my share of problems using WUSB54GC on my windows 98 se.  No problems with XP sp 3 using identical adaptor.  I am been at this for a couple of months.  Usually unpluging adaptor and repluging it will solve the problem.  No problems using XP. I have even switch adaptors on both computers.

  • Losing connection to wireless network every week

I really don't understand why this keeps happening. I have a PC (Windows XP) connected to a cable modem. I also have a WRT54G wireless router connected to the modem, following instructions on the CD-ROM that came with the router.
Across the room, about 8 feet away, I have another PC (Windows XP) with a Compact Wireless-G USB Network Adapter with SpeedBooster model WUSB54GSC installed in one of the computer's USB ports. Again, I followed installation instructions on the supplied CD-ROM and things came together and I was able to connect to the internet through the wireless router.
A week later, the 2nd computer lost it's connection with the router, so I tried "repairing the connection" but that didn't work. I ended up uninstalling the software and starting over. This time it worked, but the connection was "connection 2."
Every week, usually on Sunday, I seem to lose my connection with the router and now I am up to "connection 6." Other people I have spoken with say they never loose their connections and the folks at Road Runner think it must be a problem with the router. Who knows? I wouldn't be surprised if I set it up incorrectly and have probably confused it with all the uninstalling and reinstalling I have done.
Any suggestions? When it does connect, it works fine. I just don't understand why it keeps losing it's connection every Sunday.
Thanks for any help/advice anyone can offer.

  • Losing connection to AirPort network

My PowerBook G4 loses connection with my AirPort network (created by an older Airport Extreme 802.11g) every time it goes to sleep. I think this is normal, but the problem is that it does not automatically reconnect once it reawakens. It will only connect if I manually select my network from the pull-down network menu on the desktop. Believe me, this gets very tiresome after a while. Anyone know of a fix?

Some complaints about this have been posted in Getting Online and Networking. Don't know if there's a fix yet:

  • BT Home Hub Losing Connection to Lacie Network Dri...

I have just moved to BT from o2 and have noticed that my homehub regularly loses connection to my Lacie network drive, which is plugged directly into the router.
There seems to be no pattern to when this happens and I cannot figure out a way to fix it which doesn't result in me having to uninstall the drives software on my PC and re-install it.
This never happened with my previous router.
If anyone could please let me know why this is happening and how to fix it

Try giving the network drive a static IP address. I assume that you are connecting using a direct Ethernet cable?

  • Ibooks losing connection to wireless network.

I work at a school that has several generations of IBooks, starting from 2002 until current. I am having a problem with some of my older Ibooks disconnecting from the network and internet. The airport signal still has all or three bars that are black so I don't think it is a weak signal. If I turn the airport off and then back on again and reconnect to our network it fixes the problem temporarily but then it will happen again. These laptops are running 10.2.8 and have the older Airport cards in them, not the Airport Extreme. We have both airport snow and airport graphite base stations, 7 total in our school.
    Do airport cards go "bad"?
