Losing connection to Time Capsule share of slide show images

My 10.6.latest iMac screen saver references a folder on my Time Capsule external drive over a WiFi network.
Lately (10.6.5?), instead of seeing the screen saver images, I see a "unable to find" sort of message. I can still connect to the Time Machine through the FInder.
My hunch is that the Time Capsule drive has gone to sleep and the OS X screen saver is timing out before it comes online.
Anyone see anything like this?
I'm thinking of running a script or utility that would simply access the Time Capsule NAS frequently.

Unfortunately, this doesn't seem to solve the problem.  ITunes still periodically complains that it can't find the library - this happens both when the Mac has been on for awhile and I first start up iTunes, or if iTunes has been running for awhile as well.  In either case, I have to click through to the Time Capsule share with the iTunes library on it.  I can tell the Mac has lost the connection because it takes some time for the share and its folders to show up as I click through the path.
Anyone else run into this???

  • MacBook Pro keeps losing connection to Time Capsule HD

I have a new 2 TB Time Capsule with a Western Digital USB HD hanging off of it.  I am using the TC for the following purposes and in the following configurations:
Running Time Machine backups to the TC over wireless or wired Ethernet (depending on where my MBP happens to be)
Keeping my photo library (Adobe Lightroom) and my iTunes library running off the Western Digital USB drive connected to the TC
Backing up the WD USB drive to the TC periodically (via Sync!Sync!Sync!)
The problem I have is that the MBP has trouble holding onto a connection to the TC volume and to the WD USB volume.  As a result, if I leave my MBP idle for a period, iTunes will pop an error message saying it can't find the library, and Lightroom will not be able to find photos or the library.
I have OS X auto mounting both volumes on boot, but the problem is really when the MBP is left on but idle for a period of time (hour?)
There is a setting in the WD utility that ensures the WD HD doesn't go to sleep.  The problem seems to be with the TC, not the WD HD.  Is there a similar setting for the TC?
Incidentally, unlike other posters, I am having no problem maintaining an internet or WIFI connection via the TC.
This issue is true over both WIFI and Ethernet, by the way.
    Any thoughts?  HELP!!

  • Losing connection with Time Capsule

I have two Macs, one two year old MacBook and one 4 months MacBook Air, both connected with WiFi to my new TC 2 Tb.
Both computers loses connection with TC quite often, but not necessarely at the same time. If I shut down airport and turn it back on everything works again.
When connection drops I can't access the TC with the Airport program and we also can't find any networks at all when moving the cursor over the airport symbol in the menu bar. The airport symbol however states that I 'm still connected to my TC. BUT I can't connect with the TC through finder when this happens...
In the network diagnosis the bottom three test are marked as red, (internet supplier, internet, server) but the top three are markes as green,
I know this is not a major problem since I don't have to do any reboots, but it annays the **** out of me. Is the problem related to my Time Capsule or is it a problem with the Airport software?

  • Keep losing connection to Time Capsule while copying large files from Vista

I keep getting "Error 0x80070079: The semaphore timeout period has expired" while trying to copy large (1GB+) files from my Windows Vista Business 64 bits laptop (this OS is running on a MacBook Pro using BootCamp) wirelessly connected to a Time Capsule. The wireless connection to the Time Capsule is interrupted when this error occurs and then I can re-establish the connection. The problem seems to only occur when I copy large files or when I copy many files at once.

I believe that this problem is resolved as I describe here:

  • Losing connection to Time Capsule and WiFi

I'm not sure if this is the right forum. If not, please point me to the right place.
Periodically, I lose connection to the internet on my computer, though I can access it on my iPod Touch. If I get the screen that tells me I have no internet connection, I can re-connect OK (sometimes have to re-enter my password and sometimes not). But once in a while, I simply have to re-boot the computer to get access.
I've tried to find out why I lose the connection, but no one here could help, so I just got used to the minor irritation. Now I am trying to find out if there is a way to force a reconnect without having to reboot the computer.
    Can anyone provide assistance?

A better place might have been the "Getting Online and Networking" section of the "Mac OS X v10.6 Snow Leopard" area: http://discussions.apple.com/forum.jspa?forumID=1343

You might try resetting your connection settings using the steps listed in this message:

They're not guaranteed to solve the problem, but they'll only take you a minute or so to try.

  • Share a USB HD connected to Time Capsule

I have seen several similar questions and responses, but none of them quite hits the spot (as far as I can tell). I am hoping to tap into the shared wisdom of this community to help!
What I am trying to do, is to share on my wireless network, an external hard drive, that is connected to my Time Capsule, via USB. The desired end state is to use the hard drive as a sort of media server - and to enable Boxee (installed on an old Apple TV) be able to access the hard drive.
I have followed the tips I found on this site and others to get this far. At this point I can access the hard disk from my MacBook Pro. When I search for solutions to my latest issue, I can come across a lot of articles about how to format the disc, how to mount it, how to be able to see it in Finder. But i've cleared all those hurdles. I am looking for a solution to the question "How can i share the drive on my wireless network?"
    I have tried the following:
In Finder, i can see the TC listed under my "shared" category; the USB drive is showing as a 'folder' under "Data"
In Finder, I can see the drive listed under "devices"
From my MacBook pro, I can access, read, write, watch videos, listen to music, which is saved on the Drive
In the Sharing utility, I can see the drive in the left-hand pane under "Devices". But when I click the + under "Shared Folders", and i navigate to the drive, it is greyed out and the "Add" button is greyed out.
Right click on the drive in a normal Finder window, and click "Get Info". I try to adjust the access under "sharing and permissions"; use the name "everyone" and the privilege "Read & Write". But for some reason it doesn't seem to "take". As soon as i close the window, and re-open it; it is back to "no access".
I have tried to add the drive manually in boxee by directly inputting the ip address for the Time Capsule. The operation times out.
I have powercycled the TC, the modem, the AppleTV, and the HD.
Time capsule firmware is up to date (7.5.2); no other issues with the TC
Boxee is the latest version (0.9.22.13692); works fine reading other shared drives
Apple TV software is the latest version (3.0.2); works with no issues
Can anyone please suggest any actions or settings that i must have missed?
    Thank you in advance.

I will try to help you, although we do not have an Apple TV.
We have a Macbook Pro (Leopard) and a PowerPC G5 (Tiger). We have a 2TB USB external HD connected to the Time Capsule. Both computers are able to connect to the USB HD, although in different ways.
This is our setup on the File Sharing tab of Airport Utility:
    Enable file sharing: checked
Secure Shared Disks: with Time Capsule Password
Airport Disks Guest Access: Not allowed
Share disks over the Internet using Bonjour: not checked
(We don't have any Windows file sharing)
From the Macbook Pro (which is used to set up the Time Capsule), the TC just shows up automatically and we can browse to the USB HD.
However, from the G5, in the Finder, I had to do this:
    Go > Network.
Select the name of the Time Capsule.
    Press Connect.
The first time, you're asked for the username and password. Here, I type the name of the TC as the username, and the TC password as the password.
Then you should get a list of the volumes you can mount. Select the one you want and hit OK.
When my mom visits and brings her Snow Leopard macbook, it's even easier, just Go > Network, select the name of the Time Capsule, Connect, enter the password, and immediately all shared disks are available. This is wireless.
    Good luck.

  • Suggestions, Observations and problem with Time Capsule shares

    *Some Observations*
The Time Capsule can take a long time to become active. This is especially true if using an extended or WDS network. I would suspect this is due to the negotiation between devices that it needs to do. I have on occasion believed it to be hung, only to find that after walking away for a bit it comes up. This also impacts devices showing up in the Airport utility.
Using a time capsule with one Airport Express B/G will work, but adding a second creates problems.
Extending a network with an Airport Express N seems to work well.
Best bet is to set up separate B/G and N networks and run your N network as N only at 5Ghz.
WEP provides no real security, so think of it as you would an open network.
    *My Issue*
I am having an issue where the time capsule shares become unavailable. It is an intermittent issue, and I have been unable to identify a test case. This happens for devices connected over ethernet as well as wireless. The Time Capsule shows in the Finder list, but the volumes are not available. Connecting to them fails.
The device also appears in the Airport Utility list, but when clicking on Manual Setup, or guided set up, it causes a hang.
This results in Time Machine hanging when trying to initiate a backup.
I have also noticed that when this happens, the signal does start to get a bit flaky with "Roam (Beacons Lost)" messages. Wireless connectivity still seems to be very useable though. I can connect to other network shares through the Time Machine, but not to the shares on the Time Machine. The only way to recover from this is to power cycle the Time Capsule.
One thing I want to investigate more tonight is whether there are any issues with my keychain and old passwords in case there are multiple failed attempts in the mix that are doing something. Although I know of no lockout feature on the device.
Any suggestions would be appreciated. This is the second Time Machine, so I have seen this on two different devices. I am also seeing this issue across 4 different computers simultaneously, some via ethernet and some wirelessly. Time Capsule is 7.3.2

    Hi,
I have pretty much the same problem, 1TB Time Capsule that works fine most of the time as a wireless router. Up till recently Time Machine backups just worked (as one would expect them to) wired and wireless. I went away for a week came back and now every time Time Machine invokes a back up process all of a sudden my wireless network goes down, Time Machine can no longer see the Time Capsule and all other devices (iphone / apple TV other non apple devices) no longer have connections (they see wireless but no pass through to the internet or each other).
I have tried resetting all sorts of stuff, re-deployed my network, changed IP / LAN settings to make it less complex, Yasu'd my mac, connected only via wires, cleaned out my keychain etc etc and still get the same problems and as per Chris's point airport utility also hangs and the only solution is rebooting the time capsule.
I am fairly frustrated with this! any suggestions / help would be gratefully accepted.
    thanks
    alex

  • How to disconnect internet connection in Time Capsule and reconnect without restarting the whole device?

Hi, I would be very grateful if someone could tell me how to disconnect internet connection in Time Capsule and reconnect without restarting the whole device?
The thing is that as I have a dynamic IP address, everytime I restart the internet connection my IP address changes. I sometimes need it to change, so I need to restart the connection. I don't know another way to restart the connection than restarting the whole Time Capsule.
    Thanks!!
PD: the computer I use is Windows based, using the Airport Utility for Windows, but I also have a MacBook Pro I could use and an iPhone too.

The utility in windows is very like Mac so the screenshots are from Mac as I don't have windows available now.
How this works depends on the setup of the TC.. which you did not tell us.. you cannot change anything if you do not have the TC as the main router in the network.
So on the internet tab you need to share a public IP address.
On the next tab where you set IP address.
    Click the renew IP address.
It might work.. and it might not.. the problem is you are not disconnecting the network.. sometimes the hard disconnection is required before the address will renew..
What about unplugging the WAN port.. then click renew the IP which will fail.. then plug the wan back in again.
In the end it is easier and faster to power cycle the TC.

How do I decode the error messages?

The information from a Google search indicates the error is generated when connecting to a PC share. So this may be some kind of error generated by the NAS' operating system. In any event I cannot find such an error number associated with OS X so if it is an OS X error number then it's not publicly documented. I would still think Synology's tech support should be able to help you since it is their device. If they sent you here then they're passing the buck.

    1. is it possible to use time capsule as nas using dynamic ip address?
    2. if yes how and where can i get exact detail about this.
    3. how to connect my time capsule form my iphone, ipad or other computers . connect through ip address or something else?
    4. is it any simple installation way to do this? i heard about bonjour and icloud but dont know how to connect through this.
    please help me
    thank you

i am using windows 7 64bit os.i am not advance user of networking so please explain me in detail.
Here is your primary issue.. you cannot connect with win7 ..
Windows only offers SMB protocol which just about every ISP.. all responsible ones ...block..
Time Capule offers AFP to internet and only AFP.
You need to use a Mac to connect.. then use BTMM and iCloud as there is no dyndns in the TC anyway. (Actually there is a dyndns but only for apple btmm use...  you cannot access.
If you want to or have to use windows.. then get a proper vpn router that offers vpn endpoints to windows and has dyndns.. setup the TC in bridge behind the vpn router and access via vpn .. this is the only safe way of connecting using SMB.

  • How do I connect my Time Capsule on my modem wirelessly?

I already have a modem that I use to access the internet wirelessly on my macbook. Is there a way that I can connect my Time Capsule on this modem without having to use an enthernet cable?
    Thanks!

So you are saying that if I use the AirPort Extreme Base Station  I would be able to connect my TC wirelessly and expend my wireless signal at home?
No, please see my previous answer.....
and then use it to expand the internet signal.
That is not possible. The Time Capsule could "extend" the signal only if it is provided by another Apple router.
    What I did say was.....
When the Time Capsule "joins" a wireless network, it simply connects to the network...like another computer. If you configure the Time Capsule this way, it becomes a wireless hard drive. it performs no routing functions and it will need to be located where it can receive a strong wireless signal from your main wireless router.
I am not recommending that you set up the Time Capsule this way, but will provide the steps if you want.
    So, to clarify....
The Time Capsule can be configured to "join" your existing wireless network. It will not extend or expand the wireless network. The Time Capsule becomes a wireless hard drive in this type of configuration.
I do not recommend this type fo setup for most users because it is difficult to configure and limits backups to wireless only. You will not be able to connect to the Time Capsule using Ethernet to backup, which is much faster than wireless.

Bob is ok as a modem.. are you using voip?? If not bridge the bob and use PPPoE client in the TC..
Or use Bob as a full modem router and bridge the TC.. either setup is much of a muchness.

I don't have a DSL or cable modem to access the Internet ... just a mobile WiFi (there is no cable available at our house and the mobile WiFi is our only option). How do I connect my Time Capsule to the Internet via the mobile WiFi?

    LOL!!
I am in Australia and the ISP... I think both the main ones would fit your description to a T.. big T in particular.
Your router is really unsuitable.. if it is only wireless and no ethernet.. just buy an ethernet one.
Do a search on ebay.. 3g router.
But you can get the TC to join a wireless network.
It is a non-standard setup that Apple will not support.. the option is hidden.
If you are on Lion download the 5.6 utility. Go to the wireless set up page and hold down the option key whilst selecting wireless mode.. a new option, join will appear. You can then put in the ssid and passkey of the 3g router.
But please note the end result of this setup..
very slow speed. The TC is now a second wireless hop from your clients.. this will halve the speed.
In this mode the ethernet are deactived.. for reasons only Apple know, they decided you should not use ethernet when doing this.

How do I connect my time capsule with a Lynksis wi fi netwotk?

You cannot extend or repeat a non-apple router in an apple router..
You must plug it in via ethernet and then setup roaming network (or if you like a completely separate network.. makes no difference from the TC point of view). TC is in bridge mode. That is router bridge not wireless bridge.. I gave the info on the other thread you are running.. very confusing when you ask in multiple threads.
