Losing control of input in browser - 2 laptops on same network

Hello Forum,
We have had a sudden worrisome problem.  It has apparently been an off and on problem affecting my partner's MacBook Pro (purchased Fall, 2011) for at least a month now.  The first time it affected my system (MacBook Pro, purchased last Nov 2012) was last week.
When log into the browser (Firefox on her laptop and Chrome on mine), and attempt to enter text in the Search or URL bar, the computer makes an odd noise - rapid alerts, really - and enters a series of characters.  On its own.  Very rapidly.  The keyboard functions are disabled, and you can't do anything else even if you shut down the browser.  The only way out is to shut down completely and reboot from a cold start.
Last week, on my system, the browser started scrolling rapidly down the page on its own while I was working in a Content Manager API to update a client's website. Again, I had to shut down.
It also makes a staccato noise, like a multiple beep beep beep BEEEEEP alert while overtaking the browser.
On her laptop, we had a devil of a time even shutting down the other night. But this is not an issue every time.  Nevertheless, the issue affects her system more than mine.  I am going to install an anti-virus
When it happened to my computer also, we felt it might be network related.  We run an iPhone 4 and an iPhone 5, a 2012 MacBook Pro and a 2011 MacBook Pro, and, very occasionally, an old Toshiba Windows 7 laptop on our wireless network.  Our ISP assures us this issue is not network related.
I have an anti-virus program installed with definitions up-to-date and a clean full scan completed last night.  My partner does not, believing Macs to be less susceptible to viruses than Windows systems. I will be installing an AV program in her machine.
Also...I am hearing that Macs are more vulnerable than they used to be, and that some of the new malware can hide and lurk, so it becomes undetected when AV scans are run.
I also have an Apple Care plan, by the way, if it is something else entirely -- our ISP suggested that conflicts can sometimes occur when you get updates.

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a test, not a solution. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
Step 1
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is localized to your user account.
Enable guest logins* and log in as Guest. Don't use the Safari-only “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac.”
While logged in as Guest, you won’t have access to any of your personal files or settings. Applications will behave as if you were running them for the first time. Don’t be alarmed by this; it’s normal. If you need any passwords or other personal data in order to complete the test, memorize, print, or write them down before you begin.
Test while logged in as Guest. Same problem?
After testing, log out of the guest account and, in your own account, disable it if you wish. Any files you created in the guest account will be deleted automatically when you log out of it.
*Note: If you’ve activated “Find My Mac” or FileVault, then you can’t enable the Guest account. The “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac” is not the same. Create a new account in which to test, and delete it, including its home folder, after testing.
Step 2
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party system modifications that load automatically at startup or login, or by a peripheral device.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Boot in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the boot volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including Wi-Fi on certain iMacs.  The next normal boot may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem?
After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of steps 1 and 2.

  • Is it possible to control itunes dj from other computers on the same network?

is it possible to control itunes dj from other computers on the same network?  we have a computer running itunes connected to our speakers here at work, and we'd like to be able to control it through the other comptuers on the network.  is this possible, or do you have to use iphones/ipads/etc?

AC is corret you can do that.  It might work a bit better for you if you use a wired connection vs a wireless one for the ATV's.

  • Error 306 on win7 wired network, but no problem on laptop on same network, wirelessly

iTunes on a wired network is not working correctly. Internet connection in all other areas is working. When running iTunes, update notification works, downloads updated version, but I keep getting the error 306 message when trying to update apps.
The icons are all blank or have blue question marks.
On the same network, just wirelessly, my laptops iTunes works perfectly.
TCP/IP settings are identical on both.

Windows is absolutely passing the buck, and what is more, they are doing it in hopes that we will pass them more bucks- Windows 7 offered a program (for free) that was called windows media center.  Windows 8 does not have this however, they will suggest
that it you pay an additional $99.99 to upgrade to windows pro and THEN another $9.99 for windows media center, all will be fine in the media sharing department....
    UNTRUE-
I have Windows 8 and fresh out of the box, I got an app called XBox Smartglass with my new (and supposedly improved) OS, Windows 8.  Therefore, it is an OS issue, not a manufacturing issue or an Xbox issue or where ever else you may want to stream your
    media to.
However, for whatever reason, I have been able to share media without upgrading or paying anything with not one, but two Xbox's...It has something to do with permissions, sharing, devices, networks...but don't ask me what, I truly, truly wish I could help
everyone...however, I just do not want windows weaseling more money out of already high paying customers.
Sometimes I right click on a pie of media and I receive a 'Play To' option.  Sometimes that options offers me to 'Play To' 'The Dark Box' or 'Xbox 360' or one but not the other or; my personal favorite- the 'Play To' option is gone and the only option
is to 'Open With' the various media outlets on my PC but not stream it anywhere...and there is no rhyme or reason or setting that makes this consistent.
I wish I could help more, but I leave you with this- It is possible, It does have to do with Windows OS, and you do not have to pass anymore bucks their way to make it happen...

  • Losing control of browser

I am using FF 30 and lately it's been going out of control. Whenever I browse at some point it will suddenly start opening every link in a new tab and typing a simple entry triggers the hotkeys instead. The only thing I can do is close the browser and restart it, but after a while the process repeats itself.
I hope someone can help me solve this

It could be the work of one of your add-ons, or even add / mal-ware.
Look thru your add-ons list and make sure you know what each one is
there for. Also, check the programs that are on your computer
'''Windows:''' Start > Control Panel > Uninstall Programs.
Go thru the list. If you find something that you don't
know what it is, use a web search.

  • Control User Input  - xRPM Project ID

    Hi,
What is the simplest way (that is to say if it can be done only by customizing it's fine !) to control user inputs ?
Indeed, in xRPM, when creating a Proposal, it is possible to enter a project ID with the '-' caracter. This is causing quite a lot of problems with BW. Therefore, we would like to be able to restrict possible values.
Are the following possible solutions :
    - implement a regular expression on the field
    - modify the BAPI used in xRPM Backend (BAPI_DXPROJECT_CREATE ?)
Thanks in advance for your answers.
    Best regards

  • Any way to control money input?

Is there any way to control money input, I mean for example
If someone inputs 12.52356 dollars I have to control it until the user inputs 2 digits after the decimal dot.

BTW using floating point numbers to represent money is not very accurate. You would be better to use whole numbers and then only convert to floating point when you want to display it. So for 12.87 you would actually use 1287 instead. Check out the following.
    double dollars = 12.87;
    double change = dollars - 4 * .45;
    System.out.println(change);
    int money = 1287;
    int remainder = money - 4 * 45;
    System.out.println(remainder / 100.00);Output:
    11.0699999 - inaccurate
    11.07 - accurate

  • Remote desktop to laptop running Window 7 from laptop running Windows 8.1 on same network

I am trying to remote desktop into my Windows 7.1 laptop with my Windows 8.1 laptop.  They are both connected to the same network and I can ping each other with their dns names.  I can even use Windows Explorer to explore the file system of each
    laptop.
When I try to use Remote Desktop Connection I get the error message "The remote computer requires Network Level Authentication, which your computer does not support."  How do I turn this on in Windows 8.1?
I was able to figure it out on my Windows 7 laptop which I can remote into my Windows 8.1 laptop.
    Thanks for your help,
    Fred
    Fred Schmid

When I uncheck the "Allow connections from computers running Remote Desktop with Network Level Authentication (recommended)", I still get the warning message:
"The identity of the remote computer cannot be verified.  Do you want to connect anyway?"
But it allows me to connect.
    What does that tell me?
Also, when I right click on the icon in the upper left corner of the Remote Desktop Connection window it says that Network Level Authentication is support on both computers.
    Thanks for your help,
    Fred Schmid
    Hi,
From the details in the error prompt, We could understand that the RDP client is trying to validate the remote server’s certificate. The RDP client throws error prompt when it could not trust the certificate. The good thing is, the RDP client allows
us to bypass the certificate validation and connect to the server any way.
The Ideal solution for this is to apply the correct certificate on the server. The Microsoft support article (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2000960) explains how to verify the selected certificate on
    the server.
In my case, I don’t have the control over the servers. But I’m sure the servers I connect, are trust worthy. So, It is annoying to see this error message every time when I connect to the servers. And, every time I have to select the check box “Don’t
ask me again for connecting this computer“.

  • I have a iPhone 4S and a Cannon Printer with AirPrint. I have the printer and the iPhone both on the same network, however I still can't locate the printer on the phone. Works just fine with the laptop on the same network. Any suggestions?

I have a iPhone 4S and a Cannon Printer with AirPrint. I have the printer and the iPhone both on the same network, however I still can't locate the printer on the phone. Works just fine with the laptop on the same network. Any suggestions?

ok no problem! all i did was 1) set up the mobile hotspot on my phone. 2)  turn it and wifi on on the phone. 3)  connect the laptop/desktop to the hotspot network. 4) insert setup disk for the printer and begin setup. 5) complete the setup "using a usb cord to temporarilly connect the computer and printer" 6) unplug usb cable and finish set up on the laptop/desktop. 7) give it a few minutes to show up on the AirPrint menu on the phone. 8) that should be it. I unplugged the printer and plugged it back in, made sure the laptop was totally turned off AND disconnected from the network, and did everything I could to try and make it not work. The printer I have is a Canon MG3122, it doesn't have a fancy screen or even a way to input a password or anything like that, so it just strores a default network that it will connect to. in order to change networks i would have to complete setup multiple times. Since I only plan to use it with AirPrint for my mobile business....the one network is just fine! Hope this helps!

  • HP Officejet Pro 8610 does not connect to laptop via wireless network

I have a new HP Officejet Pro 8610. It is connected wirelessly to my home network. My laptop, running Windows 7, is connected to the same network, but cannot find the printer. I have tried turning everything off and resetting the router, but still have the same issue - my laptop cannot find the printer.
I am able to email a document from my laptop to the printer using the printer's email address.
What can I do to get my laptop to find the printer on the wireless network?

    Hey!
This is an issue with your wireless, you either have to get your router looked at you are looking at relocating your printer and your router so they are closer together. If you are able to connect all of your devices to the network fine when you are in the same room; Call HP Technical Phone Support.
If you are in Canada or US call 800 474 6836, or you can Contact HP Worldwide.
HP printers generally have a 1 year warranty from their purchase date, you can verify the warranty using the following link if you would like; warranty check.
    I hope this helps.

  • How do I control my mac from another mac not in the same network?

How do I control my mac from another mac not in the same network? Thanks

You can do it manually, but it is much simpler if you use a tool such as Back To My Mac, LogMeIn, or something like that. Those programs enable you to connect to your computer through your router without you having to adjust the router settings manually.

Help! I have a WRT54G2 v1.5 wireless-G broadban router set up on my hard-wired computer (XP) and had my new Sony Vaio laptop (Windows 7) connected wirelessly. Everything worked great! Then, yesterday, I added a Dell laptop to the network and my Sony got kicked off the network. I have tried to "add a device" but when I click on the link to do that from Network Magic, I get an error page on the Internet. I saw that someone else had a connection problem so I read the answer posted to their question and clicked on the link and again, get an Internet error. I am connected to the Internet: I checked! What is going on? I need the Dell laptop on the network as it is my new laptop for my job. Help!

Let mw know the model number of router …also tell me the Operating system on laptop.

  • Networking New HP Win 8.1 x64 Laptop to XP Network Printer

We have finally decided to upgrade my wife's old laptop PC.  Bought a new HP Pavilion Win 8.1 x64 bit notebook.  Now spending days trying to get it to perform basic functions.
The new notebook and my old faithful Dell Win XP SP3 x32 bit desktop are on same network workgroup and communicate through our wifi network.
Now I'm going through PC hell trying to get the new notebook to print to the HP 1320 printer, which is USB hardwire connected to the XP desktop.
The 1320 printer is shared on the XP desktop, and the Win 8.1 notebook "sees" the HP 1320 printer.  But when I try to print to the 1320 printer from the Win 8.1 notebook, I get the dreaded error message "No driver found.  Windows can't find a driver for hp Laserjet 1320 on the network. ..."
Do I install a new driver on the Win 8.1 notebook?  If so, what driver do I install:  the HP Laserjet 1320 driver for Win 8.1 (x64 or x32 bit?)?  Or the HP Laserjet 1320 driver for Win XP (again x64 or x32 bit?)?
Or do I intall a new driver on the Win XP desktop?  If so, what driver do I install:  the HP Laserjet 1320 driver for Win 8.1 (x64 or x32 bit?)?  Or the HP Laserjet 1320 driver for Win XP (again x64 or x32 bit?)?
Some additional informatation, which may be useful:  Using the XP desktop PC, I can copy files from the desktop to the notebook and vice versa, and I can access files on the notebook, no problem.  However, using the Win 8.1 notebook I can see shared folders on the desktop, but can't access files on the desktop for some reason, which I cannot solve.  Perhaps this has something to do with the printer/driver problem.
Driving me crazy!! Help would be really appreciated!!!

    Hi,
You have to use driver for new machine which is Windows 8.1. For accessing files on the desktop, you need to give permissions from your desktop to allow access from new laptop.  Nothing to do with printer drivers. Please try driver for your printer from the following link:
       http://h20564.www2.hp.com/hpsc/swd/public/readIndex?sp4ts.oid=410626&swLangOid=8&swEnvOid=4158
Since the printer is old, all I can say: Good luck.
    Regards.

  • Windows 7 laptop connects to network - not internet

1 week ago there was a power outage in my neighborhood that lasted about 6 hours.  Afterwards, I was not able to connect to the internet and the battery backup alarm was beeping.  The battery was replaced (the beeping stopped) but I could no longer get online.  Verizon determined that there was a problem with the router (internet light was yellow) so they sent out a new actiontec (red ring).  After connecting it and running the in-home agent, my PC (which is wired into router) works.  My laptop, however, connects to the network but can still not get internet access (it says "unidentified network").  Verizon claims this is an issue with the laptop.  My wife brought her work laptop home - same problem.  My brother-in-law brought his laptop over-  again the same message there.
This, to me, is not an issue with the laptops, but rather with the router - and creates a problem as my wife works from home next week and must use her work laptop - which at this point will not work.
    Any suggestions?

Presumably you have switched over to the new SSID.  Also these new routers use WPA2 security by default.  The passphrase is case sensitive for WPA2.  On your previous router it was probably WEP security and a Passkey (in hex) that was not case sensitive.
IF it is really connecting to the network but unidentified network, click on windows 7 network and identify your network as a trusted home network.
