Losing filesystem space due to file open descriptors (lsof  /opt/oracle )

Hi,
Our oracle mounted filesystem for /opt/oracle is constantly losing filesystem space due to file open descriptors (command to give the details -->lsof /opt/oracle).
When we issue this command single excutable apperas more time with diffrent process id and consumes space,
Is it realted to bug 3208807 ? or if any other please help me
Oracle Version : 9.2.0.4 with Data Guard
Regards
Manoj

losing filesystem space due to file open descriptorsI think this has nothing to do with open descriptors.
Check following:
1. generation of trace files in bdump, cdump and udump directory (compress, move or remove *.trc files and cdmp_nnnnnn directories)
2. generation of network trace files is enabled (sqlnet.ora)
3. if your database files are located somewhere under /opt/oracle directory then check for autoextend datafiles
Check content of alert log and content of latest tracle files (in bdump) and if you are facing to bug 3208807 then trace files must contain error message as mentioned in 3208807.8 Note.

  • Losing memory space to music files

I sync my iphone to itunes and if you have all your music in the cloud why does it take up storage space on my phone. Each time I sync i am getttin less and less memory on my phone? Any ideas

One thing you need to remember even though it's a 16Gb Card there is some space that is used when you format the Card or even your first intial use there is some space used by the phone an this has happen all the way back when Sd cards were first pute into use on our earlier phones an Cameras that came out.
On your songs there are going to be different Bit Rates an Lengths an do to this is what might of caused it to load up fast than what you expected.  An some thing els as a Reminder Taking pictures uses space on the Sd card as Well. So does Getting ringtones an Wallpapers an if you have any of your Apps on the Sd it will consume space.  So check all these area's to see what you've got an then go from there.  If this helps ya in any way drop a post an let me Know or just click on the << Kudo at the Lefthand side    << An have a Happy Thanksgiven

  • Losing disk space after installing Mavericks

After installing OS X Mavericks, I had noticed my computer was losing disk space after updating some products. I even shut down my computer to allow it to readjust to the updates, cleared some unnecessary apps, and yet I see my computer losing more space, as if files are being added behind the scenes. I've adjusted my browser Safari to more private settings, even cleared the cache, to avoid this, yet it still occurs. Are there other files I should be clearing?

the trouble is I don't know what is causing the disk space to be taken. I'm idly using Safari with private browsing set, when I come looking at my finder, seeing the space gradually falling. I was at 695.02 GB available this morning, and now at 694.83 GB available. I've made no downloads in between then, so I'm wondering if this is the result of downloading Mavericks directly from the app store, or if there is a setting I need to fix. I've tried verrifying/repairing the disk, permissions too, but I still see the decrease occurring.

  • CS2 file opens in CS5.5 with inaddressable spaces

I have a very lengthy InDesign file created using Creative Suite 2 which file opens in InDesign 5.5 filed with spaces that can't be addressed in any way; e.g., using "Keep Options" or backspace or any relaxations of Master Pages, which don't even show up using the Page menu choice to begin with.  Anyone know how to correct this without having to copy and past to a fresh CS 5.5 ID file?

I installed my ancient CS2 Indesign and when I attempt to open a file created seven years ago therewith I'm prompted that a variety of snap-ons are missing.  I've copied screen shots of the prompts below.  Where can I find these snap-ons?  I only installed CS2 Indesign.  If I'd have installed everything, would that have picked up the missing snap-ons?  I'm posting this issue in this forum as an independent question.  If you don't know the answer maybe Bob Levine will.  The second image below is a scroll view from which I've only copied the top of the scroll.

  • How do I respond to a Finalize Project Failure due to an open file?.

I'm new to iMovie, but have put together about 7 related projects. I went to Finalize the first project over night. It said it would take about 5 hours. In the morning it said the attempt failed due to an open file. I thought this was referring to the fact I had the project open.
So the next night I made sure all projects were closed, that is, I was looking at the list of projects and not "in" the project I was trying to finalize. But in the morning I saw the same error.
Sorry, I should have taken a screenshot or written down the exact wording. But it was referring to some file being open.
Does any of this make sense to anyone? Any help would be appreciated (I've got 20-30 hours in each project!).
I will try again tonight just to make sure I have the exact wording. But since this takes overnight to do, and because I'm impatient and frustrated, I thought I would try this post.
    Thanks.
    Bill

  • Why won't files open in the space that the application is assigned to?

I have applications assigned to specific spaces, however, if I am in space 2 and I click to open an Adobe Illustrator (assiged to space 3) file, spaces will send me to space 3 but the file window will open in space 2 (where I was). I have to use F8 to view the spaces and drag it over to the assigend sapce. If i try to work on it in spaces 2 (where it opened) my pallets are blank. Any ideas?

Ah this is just because I haven't fully updated my bridge yet, but the solution still works fine

The video shows replacing a current DLL file with one from last year - the key issue being that the files found in the Bridge and Photoshop folders are DIFFERENT. Why would this be?  I checked a PS CS5.1 installation myself and the files are already the same. Is there an illegitimate copy of Photoshop being used or something, causing these files to differ? -Noel

    OK.
    Try this:
    conf t
    service compress-config
    And see if that helps.
If not, see if you can tftp the running config off the router and TFTP it back to startup-config:
    copy run tftp
    copy tftp start
Then you can try a reload and see if it is cured.
I googled and found a few cases where alot of ACLs or NAT rules could cause MALOC errors (you would see those in your logs) when implemented and could manifest itself in this condition, which could be cured after the next reload, which is why I suggested that.
Of course, dont be remote when you do this and only do it during a maintenance window.

This is an old Apple-supplied AppleScript that will do the job.

Simple stats.  Buying 2 lottery tickets instead of one, gives you 2 chances to win the lottery prize. Not 1. Even though the odds of winning per ticket remains unchanged.
2 disks buy you 2 tickets in The-Drive-Failure lottery.
Back in the 90's, BT (British Telecom) had a 80+ node OPS cluster build with Pyramid MPP hardware. They had a dedicated store of scsi disks for replacing failed disks - as there were disk failure fairly often due to the number of disks. (a Pryamid MPP chassis looked like a Xmas tree with all the scsi drive LEDs, and BT had several)
In my experience - one should rather expect a drive failure sooner, than later. And have some kind of contingency plan in place to recover from the failure.
The use of symbolic links instead of striping the filesystem protects from the complete loss of the enchilada if a volume member fails, but it does not reduce the risk of loosing data.
I would rather buy a single ticket for the drive failure lottery for a root drive, than 2 tickets in this case. And using symbolic links to "offload" non-critical files to the 2nd drive means that its lottery ticket prize is not a non-bootable server due to a toasted root drive.

  • Save As / File Open dialog boxes too large to use on laptop

I have a Macbook Air and am using one of the new Apple LED Cinema Displays, although this problem was also present when I was using my older Apple Studio Display.
The problem is that some of the system dialog boxes, notably File Open and Save As are huge when I am just using my Macbook with no external screen. They are so big i cant see the lower right drag handle and make them smaller and cant access buttons at the bottom like "New Folder".
I think this is because I resized the dialog box when I last had my large external monitor connected and now that it is not connected (I'm at home on holiday not at work) I cant find a way to make them reset to their normal size.
Does anyone know anything that would help? I've had a good search online and also in these forums and havent found anything - but apologies if I've missed an existing open thread.
    Thanks,
    Glenn.

This did not work for me - and in my case it was the "Export" Save As sheet in Keynote. There is a real solution for this problem. Firstly all user 'preferences' and these are things that include not only preferences set in the application's preferences window but also window position, size, recent items etc. are stored in the preferences .plist file for an application (stored in the users account Library folder) . If an application starts to behave strangely, crashes on start etc. deleting this file while the application is NOT running can often fix a problem. So if a window is in an unusual location or partially off-screen then trashing the file often will fix the problem (BTW - if you are unsure how to find the file activate the Finder and select the "GO" menu -> "Go to Folder" and type ~/Library/Preferences - make sure you are not in the System's preferences folder - deleting these items is typically bad...). Preference files for an application are typically named com.companyname.programname.plist. So for Keynote the plist is com.apple.keynote.plist. Preferences are recreated when the application is launched. Often though this is a bit extreme. If you double click a plist file the "Property List Editor" application will start (at least if you have the developers tools installed - all free and on the Leopard DVD - with a free Apple Developer ID you can also run the most up to date version pre-snow leopard). In the plist editor all of the various options available in the program are listed - ones from the preference panel and other application information. In the case of Keynote (possibly other apps - I haven't checked) the NSNavPanelExpandedSizeForSaveMode key stores the size of the Save/Save As sheet. I downsized from a 17" MBP to a 15" MBP and the string size for this was 682 wide by 843 tall in pixels - my screen is only 900 px and once you consider the space needed for the application menu bar and tool bar the dialog buttons were 'just' barely visible - tauntingly so. I dropped the height to 743, saved the plist and reopened Keynote (remember to edit these while the application is not running - and always save a copy first before editing the file). This worked for me perfectly and unlike other suggestions here provides precision control. Now having said that 1) these files are XML and can be edited using a text editor but the plist editor is much prettier; 2) typically the keys are named using their appropriate Coca names for the property - but each developer can and does write their own code often deviating from Coca - hmm MS, Adobe come to mind - so remember that its good to read through the plist and Google to make sure that you are editing the correct information; 3) plists are automatically recreated if you really screw-up and need to delete - unfortunately in doing so Word will forget that no-one actually likes "when editing automatically select the whole word" so you will need to redo all of those kinds of preference tweaks.

  • Crystal Report 2008 File Open limit

In Crystal Reports 2008 when selecting File > Open > Enterprise  The number of files listed in each directory looks to be limited to around 25 files.
If I have a directory with more then that number of files, I have to move the file to another folder or rename it (using CMC) so it shows up in the first bunch of files if I want to open it.
Is there a way to increase the number of files shown in the Enterprise window?
    Thanks

    Hello,
Not exactly clear what you want? Save your reports to your D drive would be my first guess.... If you are referring to the \temp folder then change your system Environment Variable from the default to d:\temp and also change the TMP to d:\Tmp.
You could even set your Swap file to d drive also. I suggest you contact your IT department or search Microsoft's site on how to optimize hard drive space when it's limited. PLEASE back up everything first before making changes to your swap file location, if you don't do it right you may not be able to start windows.
    Thank you

  • CS5 can only open images from file open

I've done some googling/forum searching to no avail so far. Entering my exact error only directed me to some twitter statuses, so I'm hoping someone will be able to help.
Basically, CS5 gives an error if I try to open images by: dragging from finder, double-clicking from thunderbird, using the edit tool in Acrobat Pro, double-clicking in Bridge and probably a number of other situations.
As the topic states, it only seems to be able to open files via File > Open (Open Recent also appears to work). Other than that, CS5 appears to be working normally. It's more of a nuisance than anything, but it's disturbing my workflow quite a bit, so that's why I've decided to post about it.
Now here's the kicker: This new development seemingly coincides with installing some drivers (that's assuming they are called drivers in the OSX world) for a Lexmark 654de scanner/copier we just had installed here at work. I searched the computer for "lexmark" hoping I could trash some related files but literally nothing shows in the results.
You may argue, genuinely, that I should be posting this on some kind of Lexmark forum, and I may end up doing that. I assume a forum of photoshop users to be more helpful than Lexmark support forum if they even have one, though.
Error Text is as follows: The document "whatever.jpg" could not be opened. Photoshop cannot open files in the "Adobe Photoshop JPEG file" format.
Insert TIF for TIF files, PDF, etc. It seems to happen to all the common filetypes I use. Neither InDesign nor Illustrator are experiencing similar issues (if that helps).
    Standard infomation:
    Adobe Photoshop CS5 version 12.0.2 x64
    Mac OSX 10.6.6
    8GB RAM
    952.98 GB Free Space
    512mb ATI Radeon HD 5670
Lexmark 654de scanner/copier/fax machine could be related to the problem
Thanks for reading and offering any advice you may have.

This is a long shot but try going to Preferences/Type and uncheck "Show Font Names in English".
Quit illustrator and restart, does it work now?
The reason I´m suggesting this is that unless I have this box unchecked, some internal function in illustrator crashes after I´ve opened one document and I have to quit & restart if I wan´t to open another one. A rather silly bug and I stumpled upon the solution by accident after cursing illustrator for a couple of months...

Consider adding more memory. Be sure you have adequate free space on the hard drive - 15 GBs or 10% of the drive's capacity, whichever is greater. Do not run too many applications concurrently. Visit The XLab FAQs and read the FAQ on resolving the SBBOD.
    Do some maintenance:
Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions
Boot from your Leopard Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior and/or Tech Tool Pro to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X.
Kappy's Personal Suggestions for OS X Maintenance
For disk repairs use Disk Utility.  For situations DU cannot handle the best third-party utilities are: Disk Warrior;  DW only fixes problems with the disk directory, but most disk problems are caused by directory corruption; Disk Warrior 4.x is now Intel Mac compatible. Drive Genius provides additional tools not found in Disk Warrior.  Versions 1.5.1 and later are Intel Mac compatible.
OS X performs certain maintenance functions that are scheduled to occur on a daily, weekly, or monthly period. The maintenance scripts run in the early AM only if the computer is turned on 24/7 (no sleep.) If this isn't the case, then an excellent solution is to download and install a shareware utility such as Macaroni, JAW PseudoAnacron, or Anacron that will automate the maintenance activity regardless of whether the computer is turned off or asleep.  Dependence upon third-party utilities to run the periodic maintenance scripts was significantly reduced since Tiger.  These utilities have limited or no functionality with Snow Leopard or Lion and should not be installed.
OS X automatically defragments files less than 20 MBs in size, so unless you have a disk full of very large files there's little need for defragmenting the hard drive. As for virus protection there are few if any such animals affecting OS X. You can protect the computer easily using the freeware Open Source virus protection software ClamXAV. Personally I would avoid most commercial anti-virus software because of their potential for causing problems. For more about malware see Macintosh Virus Guide.
I would also recommend downloading a utility such as TinkerTool System, OnyX 2.4.3, or Cocktail 5.1.1 that you can use for periodic maintenance such as removing old log files and archives, clearing caches, etc.
For emergency repairs install the freeware utility Applejack.  If you cannot start up in OS X, you may be able to start in single-user mode from which you can run Applejack to do a whole set of repair and maintenance routines from the command line.  Note that AppleJack 1.5 is required for Leopard. AppleJack 1.6 is compatible with Snow Leopard. There is no confirmation that this version also works with Lion.
When you install any new system software or updates be sure to repair the hard drive and permissions beforehand. I also recommend booting into safe mode before doing system software updates.
Get an external Firewire drive at least equal in size to the internal hard drive and make (and maintain) a bootable clone/backup. You can make a bootable clone using the Restore option of Disk Utility. You can also make and maintain clones with good backup software. My personal recommendations are (order is not significant):
    Carbon Copy Cloner
    Data Backup
    Deja Vu
    SuperDuper!
    SyncTwoFolders
    Synk Pro
    Synk Standard
    Tri-Backup
Visit The XLab FAQs and read the FAQs on maintenance, optimization, virus protection, and backup and restore.
Additional suggestions will be found in Mac Maintenance Quick Assist.
Referenced software can be found at CNet Downloads or MacUpdate.
Be sure you have an adequate amount of RAM installed for the number of applications you run concurrently. Be sure you leave a minimum of 10% of the hard drive's capacity as free space.

    Hi Timothy,
The account cannot be validated error was due to a glitch on our activation server that has been fixed now.
Please try using acrobat now and check if you are still facing the problem.

    Hi Memalyn
Essentially, the bare issue is that you have a 500GB hard drive with only 10GB free. That is not sufficient to run the system properly. The two options you have are to move/remove files to another location, or to install a larger hard drive (eg 2TB). Drive space has nothing to do with SMC firmware, and usually large media files are to blame.
My first recommendation is this: download and run the free OmniDiskSweeper. This will identify the exact size of all your folders - you can drill down into the subfolders and figure out where your largest culprits are. For example, you might find that your Pictures folder contains both an iPhoto Library and copies that you've brought in from a camera but are outside the iPhoto Library structure. Or perhaps you have a lot of purchased video content in iTunes.
If you find files that you KNOW you do not need, you can delete them. Don't delete them just because you have a backup, since if the backup fails, you will lose all your copies.
Don't worry about "cleaners" for now - they don't save much space and can actually cause problems. Deal with the large file situation first and see how you get on.
Let us know what you find out, and if you manage to get your space back.
    Matt
