Losing internet connection after sleeping

I have an iMac - about 2 months old & airport extreme which I purchased at the same time. My provider is Time Warner Cable's Roadrunner service.
Every time my mac goes to sleep, reconnecting to the internet is murder. The green light remains on, on the AE. If I go to system Preferences > Network it tells me that Airport is connected to the Apple Network etc & that VPN is cnfigured, but not connected.
I have found a fix, but it's hardly hassle-free - I change the location and apply. That usually works. Next time it happens - and this can be anything from being away over night to 15 mins - I just change to another location & eventually get back on. It's really frustrating.
When I go to Show > AirPort, my settings are:
By default join preferred networks
PPoE isn't checked
Am I making really basic errors?

Well that worked for a while & now it's worse than ever. I have to play around with the settings for about 5 mins before it miraculously finds the internet again, but without me having actually changed anything. I just change the location, change it back - repeat a few times - and then it works.
It's extremely frustrating

  • Losing internet connection after Flash Player update.

Recently, I suffered from a Fake Flash Player infection involving the Adobooaan hijacker malware.  I had great difficulty getting rid of it and in the end resorted to using Spyhunter and then hand-deleting the things it came up with.
[Yes, I know Spyhunter is semi-malware itself, eats cpu space and and keeps popping up every half hour demanding payment, but I have it on a leash.  I used AVG PC Tuner to set Spyhunter so it runs only when specifically told to, and then switches off when I've finished with it.]
Using Spyhunter in this way got rid of the Fake Flash Player hijacker when MalwareBytes, Spybot and Adware-Removal-Tool had all failed, but one of the side effects was that I had to re-nstall, or at least partially re-install, the real Flash Player.  Now, I keep losing my internet connection, and it appears to be happening when I get a "The Adobe Flash Player Update Service service entered the stopped state." system event.
The outage affects all browsers, and only access to web pages online.  I can still get emails, and open web-pages which are on my own PC, but I lose access to all online pages.  The only cure for it seems to be to re-boot my router by switching it off for a minute, yet my PC's connection to the router seems to be sound, and my ISP's tech team say the router looks fine from their end.
Spyhunter is a bit over-enthusiastic - it identified a legitimate TextBridge file as a malware of the same name, e.g., so I'm wondering whether in removing the Fake Flash Player infection I've accidentally deleted some legitimate Adobe Flash Player file or cookie, causing Flash Player to switch off my internet connection at the end of every update check.  But if so, how do I fix it?  Is there some way of getting into Flash Player to set options?  It doiesn't seem to have an icon or to appear in the programs list as something you can get at and twiddle with.

Yep, I've got the exact same problem. I'm using a PowerMac G4, running 10.4.5 (I think). I can't say the problem started happening, since I just started using the sleep function (computer generates a lot of heat in my apartment in the summertime!).
But yea, I sleep it using the HW button, and bring it back, and no internet connection. I'm not sure if it's the computer (SW caused) or the ISP (disconnects if the computer doesn't respond to pinging). I am using Comcast cable Internet, which is DHCP me thinks.

  • HT1218 Airport Time Capsule losing internet connection after 3 hours

I just got a Time Capsule and my internet connection seems to time out after 3 hours or so.  My macbook/iphones/ipad seem to still connect to the internet but there is no internet connection.  The only fix seems to be unplugging the modem every 3 hours.  I think I have the most updated systems on everything.  Does anyone know what I need to do?

    Hi there Tharv23,
You may want to reset your base station to factory settings as an inital troubleshooting step. Take a look at the article below for more information.

  • Lost internet connection after sleep

When waking from sleep my internet connection is lost and I have to click the airport icon and reselect my network to reconnect. I dont have this problem with my MacBook, it reconnects automatically when when waking. Is there a way to set up the iMac (running 10.6.6) so that it reconnects to my my network automatically when it wakes?

    Hi Rick,
I am having the same problem of the airport network not coming up automatically without pressing the network manually in the signal bar. I checked the system preference checks as you explained and still have the problem. Any other suggestions.

  • A7-50 3500-F losing internet connection after 10 minutes.

Hi everyone, My A7-50 A3500-F seems to be having some problems maintaining internet connection. After around 10 minutes chrome tells me I'm offline, youtube can't load anything and messenger stops working as well. Disconnecting and connecting again fixes the problem but it repeats over and over again. I mostly use it connected to my home wifi, which I know works fine. I tried connecting to other networks and the same thing happens It happens. I tried soft resets, hard resets and restoring it to factory settings but none of that worked. The tablet is running on android 4.4.2. Any ideas on how to fix that? I just got the thing and I don't want to RMA it and lose it for a month.

End result that should fix it (hopefully) Returned it to Harvey Norman for their tech team to look at it.... Lenovo advised them to hold the tablet for a couple of weeks because they were waiting for the parts needed to repair the problem.... at that point Lenovo hadn't even seen the device and the tech team at Harvey Norman had no idea what the cause was..... 6 weeks later, after being chased by the team at Harvey Norman (who still have my tablet sitting on their work bench) Lenovo says they still don't have the parts and due to the delay will issue a replacement device.... That was three weeks ago.... Still no tablet and no word as to WHEN the replacement will be issued.... Fingers crossed it gets upgraded to a refund so I can buy something that works

  • WRT54GL: Losing Internet Connection after shutting down computers

I've got a Linksys wireless router, the WRT54GL.
When we set up the router and connect to the internet everything works fine. But when we shut down our wired computers and restart the laptop, the internet connection is gone, but I keep my local area connection. I already have done a firmware upgrade (v4.30)
Our configuration is as following: A Zyxel Multi-user PC modem, straight cable from normal interface to the WAN interface of the linksys router. Our (2) computers are connected by cable to the router, while we use the laptop for wireless connection.
Any suggestions to fix this problem?
    Jeroen

Open routers set up page using http://192.168.1.1 ..... leave username blank & in password use admin ....
Click wireless tab..... use any non-linksys network name (SSID) ..... use channel either 1 or 11 ..... click save settings .....
Click wireless security subtab .... use security level either WEP or WPA ....... have a note of the key ....
On laptop try to connect to network ....... or configure the wireless utility (if you are using WLAN) ..... see if it makes any difference or not ....

  • Losing USB connections after sleep

Brand new iMac running 10.9.3 using a Anker 13 port hub
After wakening from sleep mode (this is usually observed after long periods of inactivity) I am finding that devices connected by USB are inaccessible. Reconnecting them does not correct the problem, only a restart will restore them.
    Tips or thoughts appreciated

    Hi vegasvics,
    Welcome to Apple Support Communities!
Take a look at the article linked below, it will provide tips that will help you isolate or resolve the issue with the imac and USB hub.
OS X Mavericks: If a USB device isn’t working
    http://support.apple.com/kb/PH13876
If a USB device isn’t working properly, make sure you connected it to your computer correctly, plugged it into a power outlet if it has a power cord, and installed any software it needs.
Make sure the USB device’s cables are properly connected.
Make sure you installed the latest software for your device. Visit the manufacturer’s website for any updates.
If the device doesn’t have a power cord and is plugged into another USB device that doesn’t have a power cord, try plugging the device directly into your computer or into a USB device that does have a power cord. You might need to disconnect and reconnect the other device as well, if it has stopped responding.
If the device is connected to a USB hub, make sure the device and the hub are the same speed. Connect USB 2.0 Hi-Speed devices to a USB 2.0 Hi-Speed hub, and connect USB 1.1 full-speed or low-speed devices to a USB 1.1 full-speed or low-speed hub.
Disconnect all USB devices except the device you’re testing, an Apple keyboard, and an Apple mouse. Make sure that the device is connected directly to the computer, and any hubs or extension cables are disconnected. If you can use the device now, the problem may be with one of the other USB devices or hubs you had connected to your computer. Try reconnecting them, one by one, to your computer. When you find the device that causes the problem, review its documentation for further troubleshooting steps.
Open System Information, then click USB. If the device appears but does not work, the problem might be with the device. Review the device’s documentation for further troubleshooting steps.

  • Losing internet connection after starting some apps

    Hi all,
I'm having this problem with my arch linux install (I've been having this since the beginning and have reinstalled arch about 4 times for other reasons). I'm having the problem when using both wicd or netcfg to connect and both with wireless and wired.
When I'm connected to the internet (and the wireless router) and I start rtcw (return to castle wolfenstein) and go to serverlist it hangs for 30 secs and than says trying to connect to master server. When I go back to the desktop I have no internet at all and can't restart the connection or anything everything just hangs and my wireless card suddenly can't even detect the router (not even when I'm sitting next to it). The same problem happens when I start crossover pro / games. The internet suddenly stops working and by consequence I can't download steam to install, etc.
Does anyone have the same problem or knows a solution?
If this problem gets fixed I will donate 10 euro's to the arch linux project because besides this everything works!
    thx in advance,
    Ruben
Oh and all this software was legally purchased if you were wondering ;-). (student discount woohoo)

yeah tried that , didn't work. (already tried it before you gave this tip ;-))
Got some more info: I think it's a firewall/ router issue because when my internet falls out by starting the programs (and checking serverlist with games) then for everyone in the house the internet stops . This must mean that somehow what my apps want to connect to isn't allowed or something and the firewall or router stops the internet. I know it sounds strange but what other explanation is there?
    my setup at home:
    apple airport router +
apple airtport router with storage (don't know the official name) +
linksys router (this one is because my linux laptop can't connect to the apple crap even if the apple routers emit on b and g channels)
A lot of routers I know but my dad set it up.
Does arch linux (or linux in general bcause had these problems also on other distro's) use other ports for games serverlists and apps (like crossover) connecting to internet than windows? Strangely when I use my desktop (with windows xp installed) booted with slax usb I can connect and play rtcw online no problem so there must be a problem in my setup.
    other ideas?

  • Possible fix for OS X 10.5.7,  losing connection after sleep, restart

Possible fix for OS X 10.5.7, Airport, losing connection after sleep, restart, or cold reboot.
Issue: (For OS X 10.5.7 on iMac5,1, Intel Core 2 Duo)
    =============================================
    - After sleep, restart, cold reboot, even though cannot connect to Internet, but the AirPort bars are still full, as if connected.
    - Losing Internet connection after sleep, restart, cold reboot.
    Possible Fix:
1.Open Network Preference, click on the Location drop down list > Edit Location... > click on the wheel button > Duplicate Location.
a)Select this newly setup location; Use Diagnostic button to connect to the internet. Select Network or enter WEP password if necessary.
b)Test to make sure you can connect to a web page.
c)Go to sleep & wake up.
d)This time, the Airport bar will start to show correctly. Before, it will always be full even when not connected. Now there will be no bars or grey out when not connected.
2.On the left hand side of the Network Preference Window, there is a list of services, such as Airport, build-in ethernet, built-in FireWire, bluetooth, etc.
a)Click on the wheel button on the bottom of the service list; select Set Service Order...; move Airport to the top of the list.
b)Delete any services which you are sure that you are not going to use, such as Bluetooth, etc.
3.Pick one of the locations mentioned in #1, and make it sure it is connected. If not, use Diagnostic button. If you have to select Network or enter WEP password to connect, make it so.
a)Check to make sure you can connect to a web page.
4.Go to sleep & wake up. The Airport bar should be filled up quickly. Try to connect to a web page.
5.Restart computer. Test a web page.
6.Shut down & Start computer. Test a web page.
7.When everything is working fine, you can delete the extra location that you created in step #1.
8.Click the lock on the left lower corner of the Network Preference window to safeguard the setting.

If my assessment is correct, the LIDE 200 driver is version 14.8.1 and dated 26-Sep-2008. It is possible that the driver will not work with the latest version of OSX. I would advise that you contact Canon and ask them the question.
(Removed link because of the way Flash drives the Canon site).
It is not uncommon (though irritating) that devices no longer work when an OS is upgraded. One has to ask the question if (or why) the driver was not written in such a way as to be OS version independent.
    Chris
I spoke to Canon over here in Australia. Not helpful at all. In fact they were about as useful as an ashtray on on motorcycle. Having said that the tech seemed to think that there would be an update soon. But that is assuming that Canon are aware that there is a problem with that Scanner under OS X 10.5.7.

  • IMac keeps on loosing internet connection after a few minutes...

Intel dual core iMac with 10.6.8 OS keeps losing internet connection after a few minutes. Need to put it to sleep and bring it up again. Than it works again...for a few minutes. Other equipment like laptops and iPad using same wifi internet connection and have no connectivity problem at all... What to do?

Then what I suggest that you do is go to the Finder and select Mac Help in the Help menu. In Mac Help go to Index>C>Connect to the Internet. There you can read all about configuring your Mac, using a modem, etc. After you better understand how all that works then come back with your questions.

  • MBA loses internet connection after waking from sleep

I have a new Macbook Air running Mavericks and new 802.11ac Airport Extreme router.
My problem is that the MBA drops the internet connection after waking from sleep. I tried the solution offered by the OP, but it didn't work.
In my case, here's what I have to do to get a connection again. I open the Network preference pane, and then choose "Assist me..." and then "Diagnostics". Invariably it will show a green light beside Wi-Fi, Wi-Fi Settings and Network Settings. I have 5 bars showing in the WiFi menu bar icon. But ISP, Internet and Server will be yellow.
When I go through the steps prompted by the wizard, the ISP/Internet/Server lights turn green on the third screen where I select the wireless network I want to join.
It seems as if it's connecting to the WiFi network when it wakes from sleep, but losing the internet connection?
Note: I have a new iMac as well running Mavericks and don't have this problem with it.

The warranty entitles you to complimentary phone support for the first 90 days of ownership.
If you bought the product in the U.S. directly from Apple (not from a reseller), you have 14 days from the date of delivery in which to exchange or return it for a refund. In other countries, the return policy may be different. If you bought from a reseller, its return policy applies.

    Greetings,
I've never seen this issue, and I handle many iPads, of all versions. WiFi issues are generally local to the WiFi router - they are not all of the same quality, range, immunity to interference, etc. You have distance, building construction, and the biggie - interference.
At home, I use Apple routers, and have no issues with any of my WiFi enabled devices, computers, mobile devices, etc - even the lowly PeeCees. I have locations where I have Juniper Networks, as well as Aruba, and a few Netgears - all of them work as they should.
The cheaper routers, Linksys, D-Link, Seimens home units, and many other no name devices have caused issues of various kinds, and even connectivity.
I have no idea what Starbucks uses, but I always have a good connection, and I go there nearly every morning and get some work done, as well as play.
You could try changing channels, 2.4 to 5 Gigs, changing locations of the router. I have had to do all of these at one time or another over the many years that I have been a Network Engineer.
    Good Luck - Cheers,
    M.

  • My MacBook Air which is only 3 months old, keeps on losing internet connection.  To reconnect I have to click on the internet icon on the top bar and click turn wi-fi off.  I then have to click turn wi-fi on and it reconnects after a few seconds.

My MacBook Air which is only just over 3 months old, keeps on losing internet connection.. To resolve it I have to click on the internet icon at the top of the page and then click turn wi-fi off.  I then click turn wi-fi on and it reconnects.  This resolves it for a while, and then it disconnects and I have to go through the same procedure again.  My BT Home hub is fine because my wife's i pad and our phones are all ok.  What can the problem be?

  • Airport time capsule losing Internet connection?

My airport time capsule is losing Internet connection but I still have wifi? Any suggestions?

It could be your modem, or other problem on the ISP's end. Try resetting your modem - power it down and let it rest for a few minutes, then power it back up again.
If it is a cable modem, also disconnect its coaxial cable - literally unscrew it and leave it detached while the modem is powered down.
Leave the TC powered up during that time.
After a sufficient amount of time has elapsed reconnect the cable and power up the cable modem. If you're still having trouble contact your ISP.
The possibility of a TC problem exists but the sort of failure you describe is not common. If all else fails perform a "hard reset" followed by reconfiguring the TC. Your Time Machine backups will not be affected.
