Losing internet service every 2 hours

I've been having trouble with this ever since I got my FiOS installed.. It seems that every 2 hours on the dot, my connection drops for roughly 20 seconds and disconnects me from anything that I'm connected to. It appears to be caused by the router renewing the DHCP lease every 120 minutes.. Is there anyway I can prevent the router from disconnection from the internet when it tries to renew the DHCP?

hey otter, i had the same issue that you did with the router, very frustrating ...
what worked for me, and allowed me to maintain a stable connection was disabling uPnP on the router ... it was conflicting with some of my peripherals (router would DC when i would scan docs to the computer, etc) ...
hope this helps!

  • Losing internet connection every hour

    Hi Guys
I replaced my Linksys router with an Airport Extreme 4th Gen about 2 weeks ago
I keep on losing Internet Connection when connected through a Wireless connection. This happens with my Windows 7 PC's, with my iPhone4 and with my iPad2. The connection with the AE is kept alive but the passthrough to the Internet does not work anymore. I have to reset my wireless adapter to reconnect and rebuild my internet connection.

I do not want to go back to my good old Linksys...

I have a similar problem with a new TC 2TB unit. I have ATT ADSL service using a Speedstream modem. PPPoE is setup on the TC and it works and connects. All features of the TC are working (wi-fi, Back to My Mac, Time Machine, etc...) and the light is solid green on the TC.
Periodically, the LED blinks amber and I've lost Internet access. The Speedstream modem shows all green lights. I have found that power cycling the Speedstream modem brings the TC back to solid green after about 2 minutes.
I am seeing this happen about once a day and it can happen overnight when there is no network activity. I am thinking that the lease on the IP address given by ATT expires and the TC does not know enough to reinitiate a connection. I have set the PPPoE Connection to Always On and experienced the problem. I have also tried setting the Connection to Automatic and set the Disconnect if Idle setting to Never.

  • HT1218 Airport Time Capsule losing internet connection after 3 hours

I just got a Time Capsule and my internet connection seems to time out after 3 hours or so.  My macbook/iphones/ipad seem to still connect to the internet but there is no internet connection.  The only fix seems to be unplugging the modem every 3 hours.  I think I have the most updated systems on everything.  Does anyone know what I need to do?

    Hi there Tharv23,
You may want to reset your base station to factory settings as an inital troubleshooting step. Take a look at the article below for more information.

  • Internet flinches every 2 hours.

I've had an actiontec MI424-WR F for a while now, and the entire time I've had it the internet (without showing any signs in windows 7 or the router's status lights) will stop for an extremely short amount of time every 1.5-2.5 hours, just long enough to disrupt everything internet-related I'm doing.
I noticed the dhcp lease was 2 hours and that it was at 119 minutes immediately after one of these flinches occurred, but there seems to be no way to screw with it in the router's admin control. I'm pretty sure that it's doing this every time the lease is renewed.
    So what do I do?

New jersey, so I suppose that means no westell.
It's been doing this since day 1 I got it. I doubt something this new was faulty the instant it came out of the box, so I'm a bit skeptical on the quality of this type of router.

  • Wrt610n losing internet connection every 2 days

I've just received a wr610n v1 as a warranty replacement for an older linksys router.  It works fine normally, but every day or 2 I lose the internet connection on it.  My cable modem (20Mb/s) shows a few blinks on the 'ethernet' & 'send' lights, but nothing on the receive light.  Renewing the ip in the linksys config pages kicks it into life again, and it's fine for another day or 2.  Anyone else seen similar behaviour?

Again, fidding around with the wireless settings is not going to make a blind bit of difference - the wireless remains working fine throughout.  The problem is with the connection from the router to the modem.  When that goes down, internet is obviously lost on wired & wireless, while connections behind the router (wired-to-wired, wired-to-wireless, wireless-to-wireless) all remain working fine.

  • Restart every 24 hours Services Option

    Hi,
If the "restart services every 24 hours" option is enabled, does that mean that the services are restarted 24 hours from when they were initally started? Strangely It seems like we lose our cluster config right around 12 midnight. And I also see this in the logs:
    <mrk tms="216710840.582" tmt="11/14/2007 00:27:20.582" pid="574" kind="begin" what="log-session"/>
    <log tms="216710840.583" tmt="11/14/2007 00:27:20.583" pid="574" msg="Starting up"/>
    <log tms="216710840.629" tmt="11/14/2007 00:27:20.629" pid="574" msg="Scheduling restart timer in 84759 sec."/>
    any confirmation on this?
    thanks.

    Hello,
Your logs are correct. It restarts at midnight each night. You have no control over this in the interface (kind of stupid if you ask me).
If you want to restart at specified times, you can set up a crontab under the administrator account to do this.
    ### every Tuesday between 3:40PM and 3:50PM restart Compressor
    40 15 * * 2 /usr/sbin/qmasterprefs -service "Compressor Processing" off timeout 8
    50 15 * * 2 /usr/sbin/qmasterprefs -service "Compressor Processing" on
This example is for a node. It's best not to automatically restart the cluster controller this way unless you're sure it won't have any jobs in the queue and you check it afterward.
Qmaster clusters are delicate things -- more so than teenage daughters.
Depending on your version of qmaster, you can read page 21 of the docs located here:
    http://manuals.info.apple.com/en/AppleQmaster_2_UserManual.pdf
Hope this helps & as always with qmaster, good luck.

  • Losing internet connection after Flash Player update.

Recently, I suffered from a Fake Flash Player infection involving the Adobooaan hijacker malware.  I had great difficulty getting rid of it and in the end resorted to using Spyhunter and then hand-deleting the things it came up with.
[Yes, I know Spyhunter is semi-malware itself, eats cpu space and and keeps popping up every half hour demanding payment, but I have it on a leash.  I used AVG PC Tuner to set Spyhunter so it runs only when specifically told to, and then switches off when I've finished with it.]
Using Spyhunter in this way got rid of the Fake Flash Player hijacker when MalwareBytes, Spybot and Adware-Removal-Tool had all failed, but one of the side effects was that I had to re-nstall, or at least partially re-install, the real Flash Player.  Now, I keep losing my internet connection, and it appears to be happening when I get a "The Adobe Flash Player Update Service service entered the stopped state." system event.
The outage affects all browsers, and only access to web pages online.  I can still get emails, and open web-pages which are on my own PC, but I lose access to all online pages.  The only cure for it seems to be to re-boot my router by switching it off for a minute, yet my PC's connection to the router seems to be sound, and my ISP's tech team say the router looks fine from their end.
Spyhunter is a bit over-enthusiastic - it identified a legitimate TextBridge file as a malware of the same name, e.g., so I'm wondering whether in removing the Fake Flash Player infection I've accidentally deleted some legitimate Adobe Flash Player file or cookie, causing Flash Player to switch off my internet connection at the end of every update check.  But if so, how do I fix it?  Is there some way of getting into Flash Player to set options?  It doiesn't seem to have an icon or to appear in the programs list as something you can get at and twiddle with.

Yep, I've got the exact same problem. I'm using a PowerMac G4, running 10.4.5 (I think). I can't say the problem started happening, since I just started using the sleep function (computer generates a lot of heat in my apartment in the summertime!).
But yea, I sleep it using the HW button, and bring it back, and no internet connection. I'm not sure if it's the computer (SW caused) or the ISP (disconnects if the computer doesn't respond to pinging). I am using Comcast cable Internet, which is DHCP me thinks.

  • Palm Pre showing "No Service" and losing Ev/Service over 50% of the time + random shut offs when shut.

For starters, I have had 5 Palm Pre's.  The first pre had a battery that I was told was too small (which explained the occasional random shutdowns when being shut).  The second pre I had did the exact same thing brand new out of the box.  The third pre I had worked perfectly up until several days ago (right around the time change).  My calendar synced with G-mail was an hour early for every appointment; also several events were completely missing from my Pre calendar that were on g-mail.  In response to this problem I checked the time zone on g-mail with no resolve, and eventually tried erasing my google account on my pre in hopes of a fresh start.
This is when I encountered the real problems.
My Pre would not delete the account.  Every time I tried deleting it the top bar read "No Service" or my "Ev" indicator would disappear along with the bars.  After this the Calendar app would either freeze or just never delete the gmail account (the gray circle would just spin endlessly for literally 30 minutes).  Ever since then I have been experiencing the "No Service" indicator plus random loss of service and Ev (in places where in the past I had PERFECT Ev and Service)
Since then I have called Sprint and Palm multiple times, and both blame each other for the problem.  I recently took it in to the Tech's at Sprint and they could not find the problem and ordered me a "refurbished" pre.  woohoo.
Today I went and got the "refurbished" pre and within an hour of having it, I noticed that the same problem was being experienced (along with a few dead pixels on the screen).  So I took it back to the Sprint store and asked for a new one (or one that just flat out worked and didn't have dead pixels).  I then experienced very horrible customer service from Sprint (which was unusual since in the past they have been very helpful) and received a second "refurbished" Pre after a very pointless arguement with a receptionist.  By then it was closing time and I had to leave.
Upon arriving back to my dorm, I noticed the same problem was occuring:  "no service" messages and  no internet/service literally 50% of the time I was looking at the Pre's screen.  Also, my second "refurbished" Pre (that I currently have) did the exact same thing my very first one did: it occasionally shut down when I shut it.  This leads me to believe that the battery is too small just like my first Pre's battery was. . .
So now I am very frustrated and looking for answers.  I have never posted any sort of "cry for help" on the internet before, I hope this wasn't too winey lol.
Does anyone have any idea what is happening to my Pre?  Are there other people with a similar issue?  Any solutions to the problem?
Any info/help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks in advance.
Post relates to: Pre p100eww (Sprint)

I am on Pre number 5 and am so sorry I gave up my BB.  I have had this same issue numerous times and my biggest problem is the battery just drains.....and each one is the same...it freezes, the keyboard does not connect with the screen, the phone calls my last callers in the middle of the night sometimes 2 and 3 times I assume during backup, the tech at the Sprint store tried to help me sync my google calendar and deleted my appointments. On the last refurb my pics did not syn....they said we will keep the phone so you can sync directly, and sent the phone back before I got there. So I lost the pics of my recently passed dog.  They were like well they would have charged us 400 a day if we did not send it back........like whatever.  My chargers, car, wall and usb to computer work intermittently. I keep my car running to charge the battery.  It just continues to drain......and it goes on and on.......I baby sit this phone and cannot use it most of the time. .... palm says oh they should give you a new phone.....sprint says who said that palm?  I think about the first few months when i actually was trying to get outlook to sync.......now i just would like to be able to freakin talk on my phone.  I purchase an album on amazone and they take the money and i cannot download the music.  I tried to convert a song into a ringone I have it for safety and it is really bad.  I have to drive an hour to a "corporate store"  to beg them to give me a blackberry. I love multitasking and accessing the internet however it is freezing here now and I would like to feel a little safer with having a freaking phone to talk on.  I have spent probably a total of 40 hours on this thing since july. They say well do you turn it off and on? how often do you charge it......like its my problem......I remember the early treo's were great and then .................very similar to this 5 phones later and still in palm black abyss. So you see there are others who are having these problems they probably just like me do not want to spend another freaking second talking about this phone.

  • Slow AppleTV or bad internet service provider???

Hi! Since April I'm having issues with the quality and speed of my internet service at home, it's not a big deal with my iPhone, iPad or even my Mac, but when it comes to using my 3rd generation AppleTV it is when I really notice it. Every time I stream something it is very choppy, pausing for a few seconds every now and then. I'm supposed to get up to 50Mbps, but the most I get when I do a speed test is about 16Mbps, that would be more than enough, but it seems to be a very unstable connection.
I have called many times to my provider to complain and they always give excuses and say that it is going to be fixed.  This Saturday I called again, we did several tests using ethernet on my Mac, some tests like with Speak Easy gave us 6.5 Mbps download and .08 Mbps upload, but then some other sites that he told me to test, gave us 49.1 Mbps and 48.7 Mbps uploads. After being with technical support for 1 hour and 52 minutes he concluded that the problem is Apple, according to him, Apple devices, specially AppleTV have no good wi-fi and tend to have compatibility issues with their service! I went completely mad with his response, so he offered to send my complaint to his supervisor. Yesterday I got a CAT5e ethernet cable and connected my AppleTV, but got no visible changes to the choppy stream.
Can it really be my AppleTV? It is really strange that on my Mac I do get 49.1 Mbps on a wired connection and the stream on my AppleTV with a wired connection is slow and choppy. Thanks.
    Cesar

Speedtest.net seems to be the most reliable source, did you use that to check your speed?
Did you check for interference on the network? If not istumbler.net will verify that for you.
Another common issue is DNS, it should be set to use your ISPs (Settings - network - configure DNS - should be set to automatic)
I would continue to complain to your ISP as you seem to be not getting what you're paying for and they could be throttling the connection further for ATV traffic.

  • Drop outs every few hours

    Hi all
hope someone can help as i am coming to the end of my tether with my BT Faster Broadband connection
it drops out every few hours and has done for almost 2 months.  i cant watch a movie or play a game without losing connection at least once, maybe twice if i am really unlucky.
i got a new hh5 a little while ago and was fine for a while. then the problems started - dropping 2 or 3 times a day.  contacted bt and they sent a replacement hh5. no change.  eventually in the last few days got worse and its now sometimes dropping at least a dozen times a day, rendering my connection little short of useless.
almost convinced it was a hh5 issue as they seemed to take an age to resynch, so bought an asus dsl-n66u and crossed my fingers.
soon enough, connection dropped again and again.
i have tried 3 different cables, between router and socket, removed the openreach faceplate and plugged a new filter  in to the test socket.  connected for around 4 hours and droped again.
Connection details from the Asus, with the filter in the master socket - the same as with the openreach filter (as you can see i lost connection again not so long ago.

The OR modem is a couple of years old, not sure of the exact model as it's mounted on the wall behind a piano.  Not used it since we have the HH5 or the Asus, but as i said earlier, the same happens with the OR modem plugged in to the WAN socket on the Asus and the HH5

  • No service for 13 hours

We lost cable and internet service at 11:30 or so last night.  At that time comcast said it would be restored by 12:00pm today.  It's 3:00 now and still no service.  Now it is saying 12:30am tomorrow.  Can someone please explain why this is taking 24 hours or more?  And will I be compensated for losing 24 hours of service?  I already lost service for 3 days on June 1st and was NEVER credited the $20 on my bill for the technician that didn't show up.   How do I get that done?

    @Ndol
I am sorry for your troubles. I have sent you a private message to assist you further.

  • Automatically switch user every 2 hours

    Hi my name is Khari
I'm wondering if someone will help me create a script in .bat to Automatically go to the
switch users screen every 2 hours but before it does so, it ask me for a pin number to keep it from going to the switch users screen.

This is well beyond the scope of both, this forum and simpla bat script file. Try to first search internet including MS Script center and then, if you find nothing appropriate, place the task in MSDN forum. My advice is: Do not narrow the task to simpla
bat file. It will be a service running in background.
