Losing Mask when color correcting

I am trying to isolate a certain color, so I applied a mask in Motion because I get a much better/easier mask there. I bring it back in to FCP and add color correction, no problem. But the second I try to limit the effect it is gone. It is like that makes the alpha go away or something. Any thoughts to why this is happening and any suggestions?
Thanks as always
Shawn

Ok, let me try this again.
On track one I have a clip that is black and white.
On track two I have the same clip that I have put a mask on in Motion. Which is over an object that I want to isolate the color which in this case is orange.
I add a color correction filter to clip 2, then I clip on the limit effect triangle in color correction and use the dropper to select the orange from my clip.
At the point the mask immediately disappears. That is about as clear as I can make it.
All I want to know is why this is happening and a possible work aroound. Color might be the be solution for this down the road, but would like to figure this problem out for now if possible.

  • Crashing when color correcting C500 footage

Working with CC 2014 has been a lesson in patience from the beginning.
I am working on a $10,000 brand new Mac Pro and we get crash crash crash when trying to color correct C500 footage with Magic Bullet Looks.

As a whole, I find Premiere Pro Cc 2014 to be less than stable. Any time a stress is put on it, like a codec which requires some heavy lifting, it freaks out.  I never had these types of  problems in other edit systems, ever. We have to tread so lightly within this program as not to upset it. It is far from being used as a serious professional tool in my opinion, yet.

  • Losing masks when merging layers

    Hey guys,
So I have been trying to learn to be as non destructive as possible... one problem Ive recently had is that when I try to merge layers, I will lose the mask that was on one of the layers. How do I prevent this? :/
    Cheers!!

One small note:  Every selection specifically is 8 bits/channel no matter what the document depth.  I say this because selection masks are always provided to plug-ins in 8 bits/channel format.
So my point is that if you're editing deep (e.g., 16 bits/channel) image data, and whatever workflow you're using uses a selection as part of it, you will have quantized the data to 8 bits at some point.
You can prove this to yourself if you're skeptical...  Make a radial pure grayscale gradient in a 16 bits/channel document.  Then control-click on one of the color channels to make it a selection, and Save the selection in a channel.  Now Copy the data from that channel and paste it over the original gradient as a new RGB layer.  Set it to Difference blending and greatly enhance the brightness of the differences...

  • How to inverse the effect of shape mask for color correction ?

To change the effect on a particular portion of the frame we use shape mask is there a way to keep the portion under the mask intact and change the color outside it ? For eg specially if the area to keep unchanged is in the middle of the frame.....?

At the bottom of the color board you have separate controls for inside and outside.

  • What's the best decklink usage apply for color correction

    Hi Guys,
recently i jsut noticed that matrox supplied a very good color corrcetion for Adobe, im using blackmagic hd extreme 2 now, seems it doenst grade color very well compare with matrox, i wonder, any decklink u guys using that grade color very well? Im newbie in color no matter in FCP nor COLOR. Thanks for help guys

What is this footage that you are trying to color? The hardware used really doesn't matter in this case, all they are doing it outputting a signal to your monitor. How that footage looks and how far you can push it isn't dependant on the cards...it is dependent on the footage you have to work with.
I know your English might be poor, so I hope you don't get lost.
    Read this first: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chroma_subsampling
Now, if you have 4:4:4 footage, you can push it very far. Film, HDCAM SR, Viper...all sorts of high end HD can have this sampling. However, a more common high end format is 4:2:2, like DVCPRO HD, HDCAM SR, D5. If you shot HDV...HD on those miniDV tapes, then your chroma sampling is 4:2:0. You are missing information COMPLETELY. So HDV cannot be pushed very far when color correcting. DV is 4:1:1, so it too cannot be pushed very far. If you shot on those formats, there is only so much you can do.

  • Color correction shape mask keyframes!!!

Using FCPX for color correction, but when I add a shape mask and animate it using keyframes, I have no way to smooth the keyframes and control their smoothness!!!  Someone PLEASE tell me I'm just missing on the way to do it...  I tried everything.
    Thanks

I created some animatable masks (keyframeable on-screen control points). It's three keying effects: a single 4 point mask (like the one that comes with FCPX), a two 4 point set (essentially an 8-point), and a four 4 point set (essentially a 16-point.)
Please watch the video for best use guides. Most of the time, layering on 2 or more single 4 point mask shapes is quite addequte to do most of your masking needs.

  • Exporting Movies Losing Color Correction

I have a movie created in iMovie 08 that I've used color correction on the clips. When I export the movie to an .m4v file or .mov file, the movie plays as expected with the color corrections applied.
However, If a most the .mov file to the web, or convert the .mov or .m4v file to an .flv file for playing in a Flash player, all of the color correction is lost and the video clips return to their originals, which is too dark.
Why am I losing the color correction?

I am using Flash CS3. Here are steps I am taking to import the video:
    1. File > Import > Import Video
    2. Selecting Videos (I've tried converting both .mov and .m4v files)
    3. Selecting "Progressive download from a web server"
    4. Choosing Flash 8 - High Quality (700kbps) profile
--- Under Video > Video codec the only two options I have are On2 VP6 or Sorenson Spark
Does this help? Please let me know if there's something more specific that would help answer the question. I'm technically competent, but new to video conversion.
    Thanks for the help.

  • Masked color correction - new Pr Pro CC features or still use After Effects?

I am finally getting around to this project. I know in CS6 the solution was to use After Effects.  I think I kept putting it off as I was not as familiar with that program as I am with PrPro.
Anyway this is the issue.  I have 2 hours of old video I have captured that due to an internal camera malfunction (that was not discovered until the end of the tape)
that has 5 or 6 cyan tinted narrow horizontal transparent bars running through it.  The image is there under the bars, it is just viewed through this cyan
tint. The rest of the image outside of the bars is fine and the image inside the bars is fine, it just has a tint.  This is old SD footage.
An AE expert said I can make an Adjustment Layer in AE and use the Mask Shape Tool to draw several boxes around the problem cyan areas, apply the Curves and Hue/Saturation effect to the adjustment layer, then color correct. Some feathering would be needed (I know PS too so I can handle that part ) I think I recall back with PrProCS6, I could do this adjustment but only one bar at a time. I could be wrong about that.
But anyway, sounds pretty easy in AE. But since I live in PrPro CC 2014 now, and I saw some recent new features with masks and adjustments, I was wondering if I could perform the same adjustments right in Pr Pro CC 2014?  If I need to use AE CC 2014, no worries, I have that installed.
Thanks for the help as always!  This is family footage that I would really like to rescue.

Thanks so much Dave.  It fixed the problem.

  • Color Correction changes when Canvas is re-sized?

I have an Apple Cinema Display 22 inch (pre-HD model) and am working with some DVCPRO-HD footage that has been turned black and white using the 3-way CC filter. We wanted to do a quick pass on it and get the contrast as consistent as possible before we spend the money going in somewhere with an HD CRT (hopefully) for the final 'contrast tweaks'. My question is this: When the project is arranged in a 'Color Correction' layout, the 'Excess Luma' range check gives us a green check mark on certian clips; however when the canvas is stretched and re-sized to give us a bigger viewing area, we get an 'exclamation point' on the same clips -- even though the dots still look the same (good) in our waveform monitor. Why does re-sizing the canvas -- making it bigger -- violate the range check? That shouldn't bel. Should we just ignore it, and pay attention to the waveform monitor?

My guess is that when you expand the window, you reveal ALL of the pixels or something, and if the image is at 100%, you should be able to rely on the range checking tool report.

  • ? about image resolution/color correction when apple prints photo book

My first time making a photo book. I color correct and sharpen all of my images in Adobe Lightroom 2 first. Then I save the jpegs and import into iPhoto to make a book. Is there an option for turning off auto color correction when the file is uploaded to apple for printing? Is there an accurate way to tell how the photos will print on the specific paper they use? Also, what print resolution should the photos be set to? Is 180 dpi enough? Thanks in advance.

first read the Apple pages - http://www.apple.com/support/photoservices/preparation_tips/ - and all of its links
Second - I suspect you will be disappointed. Based on reports on these forums almost everyone who uses iPhoto exclusively to preprocess photos is extremely happy with the results. very often people you over process their photos using a third party program (including Lightroom, Photoshop, etc) are unhappy because the printing process is optimized for point and shoot cameras and iPhoto processing - it is NOT a professional desktop book process
There are no options re color correction - it is built in again aimed at sRGB, point and shoot cameras and iPhoto processing
Plus there have been reported incompatibilities between iPhoto and Lightroom
The print resolution is what it is - if it will be less than 180 dpi you will get a waarning - it can be greater
The papers they print on are specified here - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3412

  • Color correction in FC Pro when working with multiclips

Is there someway to preserve the color correction I apply in the sequence timeline to a clip, and to preserve the motion attributes I apply (i.e. it's in the sequence, then I double click to show it in the clip viewer and make adjustments) when I then include that clip (through the bin) in a multiclip?
Basically I want to have to avoid repeating angle-specific corrections for each edit as I go along in a multiclip.
    MikeR

I tried applying corrections to each before making the multiclip and it worked this time. I think what fooled me is that the 4-in-1 window reflects the original clips. But canvas playback shows the changes in the selected angle.

  • Color correction/effects when working with long clips

    Hi,
    First time poster!
I'm a beginner with Adobe Premiere Pro 5.5. I'm using it right now to do some color correction on badly produced DVD's in my film collection! I was wondering if it is possible when doing color correction effects on a clip if you can apply different effects to different parts of a clip. For example - At the beginning of a clip, the scene is really bright, but, some 30 minutes later, the clip is really dark. Is it possible to darken the beginning and lighten the ending? How would you folks deal with a situation like this? Would you edit the film down to smaller parts? If so, how would you go about that?
    Thanks for the help!
    Howard

    Howard,
    Welcome to the forum.
Along with Jon-M-Spear's suggestion (the one that I use most often too), many Effects can be Keyframed, so that they change over time. However, this does take some time, and can involve a lot of fiddling.
If you have a long Clip, and know that you will be adding the same set of Effects, but just with different attributes, you can do one of two things, and both rely on Jon-M's method:
You can create an Effect Preset, and apply that to all of your Cut, let's call them "sub-Clips," even though that term has other meanings, so be careful when using it. Then apply that Preset to all of those sub-Clips. Then, tweak each application of the Preset, as is needed for the individual sub-Clip.
In a similar fashion, you can apply all necessary Effects to the first of your sub-Clips, tweak for it, as is necessary, then Rt-Click on it, chosing Copy. Now, Select all of the rest of the sub-Clips, to which you wish to apply that set of Effects, Rt-Click on them, choosing Paste Attributes, and then tweak, as needed.
A variation on the above would be to apply the Effects to the origianal Clip, and THEN make the Cuts. Go back and tweak each individual sub-Clip.
    Good luck,
    Hunt

how to solve illustrator cs6 save as cs5 problem about the stroke(when the stroke with clipping mask and color is gradient, save as cs5 will change to embed ).

Because it was not possible to apply a gradient to a stroke in CS5. When you open the file in CS5, it is reduced to something that can be rendered in CS5.
