Losing messages in Mail - Mountain Lion & Lion

I am continuously losing messages in Mail/OS X Lion and Mountain Lion, but only in my Apple ID mail-account.
I will receive a message, see it arrive in the mailbox for the account, and within a couple of seconds it seemingly disappears into the great cyber-void.
The message is nowhere to be found on my machine and also not in iCloud, when logging in there.
I have no rules set, except for the one from Apple, which comes with Mail.
I am, temporarily I hope, able to read the messages, because I in iCloud set Mail to copy all messages to a gmail-account of mine.
But for that, I'd be lost!
I am using Mail extensively for business, so this is a MAJOR problem.
My set-up is:
Running a home-network with a Mac Pro and a Macbook Pro, both running mail.
I have two routers, an Apple Extreme connected to the service-provider router, and an Apple Extreme Dual running in bridge mode.
I also connect via wireless from both an iPhone and an iPad.
Any help would be very, very much appreciated.
Also, how do I get Apple to listen and reply?
Thanks very much in advance!

Please follow these directions to delete the Mail "sandbox" folder.
Back up all data.
Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:
~/Library/Containers/com.apple.mail
Right-click or control-click the highlighted line and select
Services ▹ Reveal
from the contextual menu.* A Finder window should open with a folder named "com.apple.mail" selected. If it does, move the selected folder — not just its contents — to the Desktop. Leave the Finder window open for now.
Log out and log back in. Launch Mail and test. If the problem is resolved, you may have to recreate some of your Mail settings. You can then delete the folder you moved and close the Finder window. If you still have the problem, quit Mail again and put the folder back where it was, overwriting the one that may have been created in its place. Post your results.
Caution: If you change any of the contents of the sandbox, but leave the folder itself in place, Mail may crash or not launch at all. Deleting the whole sandbox will cause it to be rebuilt automatically.
*If you don't see the contextual menu item, copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combinationcommand-C. In the Finder, select
Go ▹ Go to Folder...
from the menu bar, paste into the box that opens (command-V). You won't see what you pasted because a line break is included. Press return.

    Hi,
Please could someone possibly tell me location of the Apple Mail draft messages directory.
I'm trying to restore these from Mountain Lion, but am unable to find the folder, where the messages are located.

    Hello there, Ludwip.

  • Hostgator POP account configuration in Mail (Mountain Lion)

    Hi,
I have a little problem with configuring a Hostgator POP account in Mail (Mountain Lion).
The following info is from Hostgator:
    Secure SSL/TLS Settings:
    Username: [email protected]
    Password: mypassword
    Incoming Server: gator4113.hostgator.com
    - POP3 Port: 995
    Outgoing Server: gator4113.hostgator.com
    - SMTP Port: 465
Authentication is required for POP3 and SMTP.
I have manually configured the account in Mail, but where shall I enter the
    Incoming Server's Port 995?
At the end of the Advanced Tab I could enter a port (is by default set to 110)
but according to the help file this is ALSO for SENDING messages. (???)
    Thanks for any help!

I tried this, but still no screen appears where I could enter the incoming port.
I found another forum post regarding this question:
    https://discussions.apple.com/thread/6507302 => Csound1 wrote:
"the path you provided (mail>preferences>advanced) allows you to change the incoming port"
I tried it, and it seems to work!
As I wrote in the Mail help they wrote "Specify the port numbers to use to send messages",
BUT at the top, under "Advanced accounts preferences" it says
"Use Advanced accounts preferences to set options related to retrieving messages"!!
So it seems it's really for receiving/incoming mails. (Where else should it be possible to edit that port?)

You should know better than to extrapolate conclusions from such questionable sources. Data on troubleshooting forums is always biased towards trouble, so you have no data about the ratio of people having trouble to people not having trouble. Further, comparing to other forums is similarly meaningless. Mail is the default e-mail client on the Mac, and will have a much higher portion of the market share than Thunderbird. So of course it will have more complaints, because more people are using it.
If you have concrete reasons to constantly bash Mail, rather than hearsay and unscientific "data," I'm all ears.

    HI,
If you have any sort of Back up such as a Time Machine one you could "restore" it to the Applications folder if you know which date it last worked.
Other than that it is the Mountain Lion Restore process (Restart the Computer holding CMD and R)

what a long post....Apple, btw, does not read this stuff, so ranting, raving, and complaining here might make you feel good, but it does no good at all. That being said, I, too have a Mac Pro Quad Core Xeon with 6 gigs of ram and an nVidia 8800 GT graphics card (not as good as yours, alas) and I've had no problems at all with it. Yes, it doesn't have Thunderbolt, but maybe we Mac pro owners will get lucky and someone will come out with an adapter (probably not). No, you probably don't have to throw away your Mac Pro, but if you do, I'll take it, for a small "recycling" fee >:-) That was a joke.  Yes, the Mac Pro's future isn't quite clear, YET. Hopefully that will improve very soon. As for not being able to upgrade to Mountain Lion. Don't worry about that too much, Nobody is forcing you to do that.  Your Mac Pro won't quit working if it isn't installed. From what  I've heard, you should give the new OS a chance, and wait to get it, in case there might be some bugs, or stuff not working with the new OS, which has been known to happen. Yes, we Mac Pro owners don't like being treated like mushrooms-kept in the dark, and being fed......... but Apple is Apple and it will do what it does, and there is nothing you or me can really do to change that. All I can say is....trust, have faith, be patient, go for a walk, do something else to take your mind off of this problem. IF apple decides to drop the Mac Pro for good, and that's a big "IF", I think they will anger a whole bunch of people
which isn't good. However, that hasn't happened...YET. Let us hope that it doesn't

  • Uninstall  the Messages application from Mountain Lion?

I was wanting to know if there was a way to uninstall the Messages application from Mountain Lion, I tried to delete it/move to trash and it gave me a message saying that the application is required by OS X. I want to uninstall the application due to privacy issues encountered with two Iphones on one apple id account.
We would just start a new account for one of the phones but as i understand the music that is currently on the phone would not be able to be added to the new account from the original account. By uninstalling messages it would alleviate some issues.

    Hi,
    To be sure.
On the iOS device go to Settings > Messages > Send and Receive and remove the Apple ID.
Set the iPhone or iPad into Airplane Mode.
    Wait a few minutes.
    Turn the device "On" again.
Send and Receive should now list just the iPhone Number.
Now Restart Messages on the Mac.
There will be an alert saying the iphone is using just the iPhone number.
Deny this in the click option buttons.
Then  go to the Sign out Button.
Then go to the Finder > Go Menu > Go to Folder and type in ~/Library/Preferences in to the dialogue box that appears.
Find and drag to the Trash com.apple.imessage.bag.plist and com.apple.imservice.iMessage.plist (this one holds the Apple ID and Aliases (which include the iPhone numbers)
    Restart Messages.
It will start and be available for AIM, Jabber, Yahoo and the Bonjour Account  use but will not have an active iMessage account.

  • Mail (Mountain Lion) emails disappear - vanishing email - missing emails

    Problem:
I have 5 different email addresses configured in Apple's Mail application. One day after checking Mail several times through a day, I open Mail and all 5 email accounts show empty inboxes and outboxes. I was shocked and in panic mode because I have thousands of emails going back to 2012 I needed to refer to.
    My setup:
(I'm sure this issue is not limited to my setup)
15" Mid 2010 i7 MacBook Pro, running OS Mountain Lion 10.8.5, Mail version 6.6
    My search for an answer:
I've been Mac since the early 90's & I knew finding a solution from apples website would be a ton of work because of Apples mind numbingly pathetic search support.
So I used "the google" to help me.
I found a long history of disappearing issues with Mail since Mountain Lion's introduction.
With that long history, the fixes were many.
    I tried two of them:
1- Mails Mailbox pulldown window Rebuild.
2- "home" folders now hidden "Library" remove Mail and Mail Downloads folders..
    Neither solution worked for me.
After a lot of time on the google I found help.
    Solution:
I found a solution and I'm posting it here in hopes that others find it faster then I did here:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/PH11704
    In steps:
Mail should not be open, if it is quit Mail.
1 - On your mac, go yo your "Home" folder.
    Details for finding this folder:
It is the folder icon that looks like a little house.
A simple way to get there:
With all apps and windows closed, at the top of your monitor, far left, is the Apple icon, next to that is the word "Finder", go right and click on the word "Go", in that drop down menu/window click on "Home"
2 - Open "Library" folder in "Home" folder.
    Details for finding this folder:
It is a folder that starting with Lion is now invisable/hidden from your view. So you first have to make it visable/unhide it.
A simple way to get there:
As listed above, at the top of your monitor, far left, is the Apple icon, next to that is the word "Finder", go right and click on the word "Go", in that drop down menu/window now click on "Go to Folder". That will open a window with a box for you to type. In the box type "~/Library" ... more help...  the ~ key can be found in the upper left corner of your keyboard just under the esc key. Press the shift key then the `~ key.
3 - Open "Mail", then "V2" then "MailData" inside that folder delete any file that begins with “Envelope Index,” such as Envelope Index or Envelope Index-shm.
Details for finding the items to delete/trash/put in recycle bin and empty:
Inside your now unhidden "Home" "Library" folder, open the "Mail" folder, inside that folder open "V2" folder, inside that folder open "MailData" folder, inside that folder look for any file that begins with “Envelope Index,” such as Envelope Index or Envelope Index-shm. and throw them in the trash and delete/empty trash.
4 - last step. Open mail.
It should open with a window "Mail message Import" click on "next" it will prosess/make a new list of your existing emails (more emails will take more time) and you should be back in business.

  • How can I add a Google account not connected to a GMail account to Messages in OSX Mountain Lion?

With iGoogle going offline soon, and being myself averse to using Google+ for social networking due to what I perceive as a blatant disregard for my privacy, I'm trying to save my few Gchat contacts, as I don't have many other ways to contact these specific people. However, I'm having trouble connecting my Gchat (or Google Talk if you prefer the term) to Messages. It doesn't recognize that my google account is tied to a verizon email address, not a gmail address, and refuses to acknowledge my password as correct (even though I typed it correctly at least five times trying).
I haven't seen anyone else having this problem, and I'd prefer to call customer support about this, but this seems to be the next best option.

    Hi,
iChat and Messages (and for that matter any other Jabber capable App) will not accept non Google Mail Google IDs as Google Talk IDs
When Google launched Google Talk it was only for those IDs issued under @googlemail.com or @gmail.com that were eligible.
Later they allowed other Google IDs to Chat but only from Web Browser Logins.
There was a period when they did seem to expand the non Googlemail IDs into the GoogleTalk fold for external apps to also allow access but this was dropped after a while.

  • How can I forward a web page (not a link but the page) using Mac Mail'Mountain Lion?

I want to mail a web page, not a link to the page but the page itself. I use Mountain Lion and Mac Mail. I used to be able to do this with Lion.

  • Problem with unchecking secure sockets layer checkbox in outgoing SMTP server Apple Mail / Mountain Lion

After installing Mountain Lion my mail was converted and all my messages showed up, however, when I try to send I get an error. I have traced this error to the fact that Apple has automatically checked the box "Use Secure Sockets Layer (SSL)" in my Apple Mail preferences even though it wasn't checked before upgrading.  Now whenever I try to uncheck it it keeps filling itself back in.  I have tried to delete that outgoing server and readd it and it continues to check the box.

    Hi
I have a similar problem here i have work accounts which do not need the SSL ticked but when I uncheck the box and in a  few seconds the tick is back up again sometimes I have to click about 10 times or so for it to stay off. I tried to do your sollution it did not work on your suggested port but seemed to work on the 25 port . Also I found i only have the problem when I am at work were we are on a PC network and firewall. It seemed to work fine on a normal home line. Also it only happens on Mountain Lion I have a older macbook with snowleopard and there i have not problems sending messages
as right it was said Apple needs to look into that ASAP as it is very frustrating

  • HT1277 cannot find a way to install my OVI account in Apple mail (mountain lion)?

I have just upgraded to Mountain Lion, now I cannot configure my OVI email account. Apple email configuration in Mountain Lion does not recognize the OVI mail as a Yahoo provided email address. It does recognized the fact that OVI is a Yahoo based address  in OS 5.1. Consequently setting up my OVI email address on my Ipad and I Phones has been no problem.
I personally believe that this is a bug in the Mountain Lion software which needs to be corrected asap with an up date. Does anyone have any suggestions?

  • How do I reinstall messages in os mountain lion ?

I previously attempted to use ichat prior to messages being part of mountain lion
when upgrading to mountain lion , it used all my contacts from ichat , but I am unable to send or recieve messages from macbook
I am also unable to add or delete contacts

The issues you are having all point to data problems, not problems with the program itself. It is very rare to have an application get broken in virtually any way. Trying to re-install the application won't likely help.
Can you create a new account on your Mac and try to use Messages there. That will help determine if the problem is system-wide or isolated to your account.

  • How to auto-capitalize first word of a sentence in Apple Mail (Mountain Lion)?

I've looked around and found a few posts which say this is not possible. I hope that becuase this is not too strenuous a piece of auto-correct functionality - and even works in iOS that it surely must be possible to get it to work on Mountain Lion Mail....
I appreciate people will suggest learning to type. Thanks in advance for that. If anyone has genuine advice of how to solve this particularly irritating quirk, I would love to know.
It's particularly annoying as I'm in the process of converting a long time Outlook for Mac user to Apple Mail - and this is one feature they have pointed out immediately. (As well as a 'Move To' search box that Apple doesn't have)

I am also having this problem. Does anyone have an answer?
I jus upgraded from Pages 4.3 and it's in Preferences. Not so in Pages 5.0.
