Losing Mouse

My iMac keeps losing the mouse. It's a USB mouse, and it's connected to one of the keyboard USB ports. The red light on the bottom gets turned off, I have to disconnect it from the keyboard and connect it again. After about 15 seconds it works again. This happens about 6 times per hour.
Any ideia?

i've just had the same problem, it started soon after June 2009 updates. Disconnect reconnect and it works until i pause for a few minutes and ...nothing. The idea that it could be wires seems pointless due to its timing of going wrong and the fact it reinstates by plugging in and out of the USB port at the back of the mac and not the keyboard and that said, the keyboard hasn't moved an inch to cause a loose/damaged wire problem . This is a guess but i think something has affected my mac from the updates. Did it happen soon after a download, alert on your mail box or something of that kind ?

    Hi All!
I'm losing my mouse cursor everytime I pass from any application (Apple or not) to the finder. I only get it back when it comes over the dock. Anyone know about this issue?

  • Repeatedly losing mouse connection

I have a wired Apple keyboard and a wired LogiTech MX 500 Optical Mouse. My Mini keeps losing track of the connection with the mouse. Unplugging the mouse from my keyboard and plugging it back in again fixes the problem but it happens often enough to be more than a little annoying. Both the 10.5.5 and 10.5.6 upgrades exacerbated the frequency with which the problem occurs taking a significant jump with 10.5.6 .
Console has this rather unhelpful comment about the matter:
2/4/09 1:16:35 PM kernel USBF: 93825.806 [0x1fbc000] The IOUSBFamily is having trouble enumerating a USB device that has been plugged in. It will keep retrying. (Port 2 of hub @ location: 0x1b100000)
Is it possible that my mouse is getting long in the tooth and needs replacing or could there be some other type of problem?

Not an answer I was hoping for but thanks for your help. I've added/switched out parts to Apple ][s and my previous Macs but the Mini isn't designed to be user serviceable so I expect my Mini will have to go to the Mac hospital. I'll be crossing my fingers that the port will keep working fairly well until the new model Mini is introduced and I'll cope with the problem then.

  • Losing Mouse "hand" over buttons when publish for Web.

    Hi,
I'm new to Flash. I'm publishing a web-site and I lose the "Hand" icon for the mouse over buttons after I publish and run the HTML=>Swf files from the Browser. When I "Test the movie" from flash I see the "Hand" over buttons just fine.
Is there a publish setting that I'm missing which allows the hand to remain?
    Please help.
    Thanks,
    Jeff

    Hi, Had to work yesterday.
At the moment I'm running/testing locally  (which may be the problem) from a flash secure directory on my desktop. So no link sorry.
I think I need to look into setting up a test service with Yahoo or something. Any suggestions? I'm not really sure how to upload my completed website (.html and .swf files) to a service. That's a different topic/question. Any help along those lines is greatly appreciated.
Anyway, I'm using safari 5.1.7 on my IMac. and Safari 6.0.3 on my Mac Pro. and Firefox 21.0 (primarily) or Internel Explorer (rarely) on my "windows" laptop.    The "Hand" works on all of these (files local to the respective computer) except the IMAC Safari 5.1.7 flash player 12.0 combination, which was my first test environment scenerio.
I'm planning to do two things.
    1) Update my IMAC to Safari 6.0.
    2) Set up a test area with a service provider. This in itself may resolve the issue for the Safari 5.1.7. At least I'll be testing in a "real world" environment.
So, thank you for your help with this. I think we can call it solved. If my testing on a true server shows the same results then I may shoot out another question. I think it is a nice goal to have our web site creations run on all platforms and browser comibations but is that realistic? If we test on as many combinations of the most recent software releases as we can with reasonable success what more can we do? I'd like to hear you opinion. Feel free to sent me an email.
Would you like me to open a new question/discussion regarding the help finding and uploading files to a service provider?
    Thanks again,
    Jeff

  • Losing Mouse-over highlights

I'm back with this one. Wacom is unfamiliar with the problem. It is recurring, and does always seem to follow user switching. Besides menu bar highlights and dock icon labels, I also lose window title bar gum drop highlights. No need to restart, however, as logging out and back in will restore the lost functions. I've unplugged the USB tablet and connected a generic USB mouse, but no change. I've uninstalled the latest tablet driver software, and re-installed the previous driver, with which I had no problems, and still having problems. Repaired permissions.
This is not that big of a deal compared to others here, but this Mini has been running flawlessly for over a year and it bugs me that this might be fixable but I haven't a clue what to try next. I saw one report at Macintouch of a fellow who had this problem after installing Panther last year on his computer, but I've drawn a blank with any other queries.
Just hoping someone who knows what's up will see this.

    Hi lynxalot,
what you are describing sounds a bit like the Finder crashing. In your home folder, navigate to your Library and open the "Preferences" folder. Find the following two files and drag them to the desktop:
    com.apple.finder.plist
    com.apple.sidebarlists.plist
If this solves your problem you can delete those two. If not, put them back into your "Preferences" folder.

  • The worst Windows programmers. . .

The world's worst Windows programmers work for Apple. Definitely. Really.
I don't say this to start a mudslinging fight--just try using iTunes on a Windows system for a few minutes and you'll see what I mean. I'm not a C++ bitpusher, but in VB it's a system routine called "Do Events." A call to Do Events keeps your application from freezing and losing mouse clicks and key strokes. It makes your application friendly and usable. It's necessary.
    Apple: Do Events!
As soon as a file finishes downloading to iTunes, you'll see a 5 to 10 second lock up (or even longer) as the application completes the download. All UI is completely frozen in the iTunes application while this occurs. It's impossible to continue working in iTunes, to select anything, to click anything, while this is happening.
    Apple--please: Do Events!!
It's simply some of the dumbest, saddest, worst programming I've ever seen. Why do we tolerate this sloppy work? I've seen this on one system after another. Apple has a mystique of "cool," of easy-to-use while being technically savvy underneath, of doing things the "right way." Perhaps with BSD, but not when it comes to Windows, it seems. With Windows, Apple just doesn't get it.
    Apple--come on, now: Do Events!!!
This problem has been around since the first time I ever looked at iTunes. It's never been fixed; never even addressed, as far as I can see. Lock out those interrupts, drop those events, don't even bother with the most elementary design. Who cares?
After all (*sniff, snort, wheeze*)--it's only "Windoze". . . Yeah, sure. . .
Apple, for Pete's sake, learn to Do Events! Stop being so effete and start learning how to program for the Windows operating system. I'll bet you could solve this in no time if you really tried.
Why, I'd wager it would even make Steve happy.

Heya all -- when I first boot my Mac, I can open Logic Express 8 just fine. Then when I quit, reopening Logic causes a major hang, losing mouse responsiveness, etc. Does anyone know what is going on with this?

  • Changing Firefox update notification behavior?

    Hi!
There seem to be two kinds of Firefox update notifications -- the polite little box that appears in the upper right corner from time-to-time, and then the giant covers-what-you're-doing one that you need to click cancel on if you're in the middle of something and can't upgrade right that second (very annoying if you happen to be in the middle of working on something when it steals your mouse and keyboard focus!) I've noticed this for the last several Firefox versions and updates.
I think what I'm describing as "the polite little box" might be Firefox sending a message via libnotify, but I could be wrong.
The giant interrupts-what-you're-doing one has interrupted me at just the wrong moment and caused me lost work one too many times, and I have to turn it off (with one tool I regularly use, losing mouse focus in the middle of selecting an image region means you have to start over). However, I'd rather not lose update reminders all together, because I do appreciate knowing when there's a new release out that I should install. Is there some tweak in "about:config" that would let me turn off the big interrupts-what-you're-doing update notification, but keep the polite little one, or some other method to receive update notifications in a way that doesn't steal keyboard and mouse focus?

  • USB problem with K8N Platinum BIOS 1.C

I was running the beta BIOS 1.CA to fix a problem with one of my CPU cores not being detected on a warm boot and it worked great.
When I noticed the official release BIOS 1.C I upgraded but I noticed problems with my USB mouse and keyboard sticking occasionally, the keyboard sometimes needed two or three presses to type and I was losing mouse clicks, gone back to the beta 1.CA BIOS and everything is fine again.
Anyone else noticed this with 1.C BIOS?

Yes, I've gone back to the beta BIOS now and everything's fine
I only upgraded to the release version because usually releases are more stable than betas, obviously in this case the reverse is true

  • Been losing connection for magic mouse and wireless keyboard

When I have my MBP running Mavericks in clamshell mode, I lose connections to both magic mouse and apple wireless keyboard in clamshell mode. I've tried all the PRAM SCM, aluminum foil and paper tricks. What I then did was test what happens when I leave the MBP open rather than in clamshell mode and it appears to avoid losing connection, at least that is what I've concluded with Mavericks for now..... anyone else able to replicate this? Having to leave the MBP open is not ideal.

Barry, thanks, still not working.  I've tried every thing I can think of or have read, what I'm concluding is that there is either a problem with Mavericks or something has changed on how bluetooth works in Mavericks. Did not have this problem for the last 4 years. I can reproduce the problem when I close the laptop. I had the Bluetooth and wireless card checked out and replaced about 3 weeks ago. Problem has continued.

  • Why does my mouse keep losing connection every minute

why does my mouse keep losing connection every minute, its not the batteries

I'm having the same issue.  Every so often it loses connection then re establishes. This goes on repeatedly.
If you change batteries while the computer is still active then it takes for ever to re connect.
Can't wait until someone replies to your question.

  • HT2845 why does my wireless mouse keep losing connection?

    Good morning,
My wireless mouse keeps losing connection...my batteries are at 100% and the "discoverable" option is checked off.  Why is this happening?

    Hi:
PRAM=parameter random access memory - reset like this:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/PH11243
SMC=system management controller reset like this:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964
Sometimes resetting these "fixes" odd problems - and it cannot hurt.
To make a device a favorite, go to system preferences>bluetooth.  Highlight the device.  If detailed information is not shown, click oin the little gear>show more info.  Then click on the gear again and make the device a favorite.

  • Mouse losing connection

My mouse is losing connection with my computer on a regular basis, and regaining it after around 1-2 minutes. The problem is happening every day, sometimes up to 5 times, during which time the mouse is completely unresponsive. I've tried rebooting, turning the mouse on and off, changing the batteries but nothing seems to work. Can anyone help, as I've never had this problem with wireless mice before?

    Hello:
Try resetting the PRAM and SMC.  It is also possible that the mouse is failing.

  • Why does my mouse keep losing connectivity

My magic Mouse (came with the system) keeps losing connectivity.  It seems that whenever the mouse has a period of inactivity such as when I am using the key board, it loses connectivity and I have to double tap it (two fingers) to get it to reconnect.  Battery is >80%.  Is this normal or is there a setting that can insure it stays connected?  I appreciate any advice even if it is I have to put up with this annoyance.  Thanks.

Thanks for the response.  My WFi is a Linksys E2000.  Because of the number of messages in the Console I will have to wait until the next time I lose connectivity and then check for messages in Console to see if there are any clues to what is going on.
