Losing music with upgrade?

After encountering many problems with previous upgrades we had been avoiding at all cost, but discovered today that we needed to upgrade to be able to purchase music. Installation went fine, but any music purchased in the last few months did not transfer with rest of library. They were in the library up until today and then disappeared after the upgrade. They do not come up on purchased music list either (although they are in my account purchase history info and I have receipt info).
Anybody hear of this or know how to find the music. I tried following directions from apple's support (searching for m4p files), but nothing came up.
Thanks.

And me ... it happened to me too. All of my purchased music went bye-bye. My regular mp3s are still there, but everything in my iTunes library is very gone.
So, essentially, Apple's upgrade stole all of the stuff I purchased. EXCEPT that I had copied my whole MyMusic file to my laptop and to my portable hard drive. If I hadn't, I would be s**t out of luck. And you just know that Apple would not have done a thing for me.

  • I am losing music with slideshows in iPhoto.

After a recent automatic update (I think to the operating system), the iPhoto program began losing all music associated with slideshows, seemingly whenever the power was completely shut down.  I am using iPhoto 11, version 9.4.3.  After the power has been shut down, the music files previously associated with the slide shows are no longer associated.  I can see my iTunes library in the iPhoto program, but it will not let me add music, and gives me an error message something to the effect of, "...cannot be added because the original file cannot be located."  If I go into iTunes and create a new playlist, I can then again add music to the slide shows.
I did not have this problem prior to the recent updates.  Is there a way to maintain the link between the iPhoto slide show and the music even if the power is shut down?  It seemed to be able to do this prior to the recent updates.
Is there a way to save the entire slideshow to a file or DVD, so I can simply play it from a DVD or re-load it?
This seems to be an issue with the recent updates required by Apple.
    Thanks.

    1. As a former and current PC user, I have had several problems because I failed to update PC programs as recommended (security patches in Adobe Flash Player, etc.).  I assumed Apple was the same way; the programs would generally work better and be more secure if I installed the recommended updates that periodically arrived from Apple.  Perhaps I am mistaken and you could offer some better suggestions.
    2. I am using iPhoto '11, version 9.4.3.  It may not be the version I was using when I initially encountered the problem a few days ago.  When it happened, I checked the Ap store for recommended updates, and there was one for iPhoto, so I updated to see if that would fix the problem.  It does not seem to have fixed it.  I purchased this iMac as my first Apple system nearly two years ago, and have been using the software that came installed on it, altered only (as far as I know) by the recommended updates.  I generally really like it.  I am using Mac OS X version 10.7.5.  I don't know how to check to see if the iPhoto version is compatible with the OS X version
    3. The exact error message is, "The song "____" could not be used because the original file could not be located."
I have some slide shows on the iMac that we put to music out of iTunes and play on the iMac.  As long as the computer is put to sleep, and not shut down, the link to the music remains.  If the computer gets shut down, the iPhoto loses the link to music files.  When I open iPhoto, the slide show is there, but the music does not play with the photos.  When I open the music settings, I can open and see my iTunes library, but when I drag songs into the field for the slide show, it will not allow the songs to remain in the field.  I then double click again on the song I just tried to add to the slide show, and the error message above appears.
I went to the support page, and it suggested that I close iPhoto, go into iTunes, copy the iTunes Music Library.xml file to the desktop, go back into iTunes, create a new playlist, then open iPhoto and try again.  Going through this process seems to allow me to again add iTunes songs to the slideshow.  I just lose everything again whenever the power shuts down.  I thought saving the slideshow onto a DVD might work, but I have not figured out how to do that yet.  Is that a reasonable solution?  I could potentially save them to a DVD, flash drive, or the back-up Airport disk.  It appeared in the support community that people had difficulty with saving the format when the slideshow was saved directly from iPhoto, but that it worked better when first transferred to the video program (iMovie?).  I have never used the video program and don't know if I even have it.  I welcome any suggestions you may have.
    4. I have not noticed any other strange things with iPhoto.
    Thanks for your help,
    B

  • Lost Music with upgrade 9.2 - Found iTunes Database File???

When I upgraded to 9.2 itunes, I lost all the music I had downloaded from CD's. I found the itunes database file dated October 2007 in the Previous iTunes Library Folder. How do I get that music back on the itunes library dated August 2010 which was the date of the upgrade?? Thanks for any help you can provide.

Are you saying there wasn't an ITL file with a more recent date? There should be one from the date you upgraded to 9.2 if it is on the same PC and same windows userID.

  • Help with transfer of music after upgrade to Win 7

I upgraded to Win 7 from Vista, which caused the loss of all my current files etc. I had a current backup (on a sep external HD as well as online) of my itunes before I did this, BUT I failed to consolidate the itunes.
Now I have nothing in my itunes but I have lots of folders under "my music" with subfolders including itunes again, itunes music, itunes media, previous itune libraries, etc, etc.
I'm really unclear, after reading several articles about recreating my library and moving my music and so on. Do I need to consolidate now? Would this help put everything where it is suppose to be?
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

In Windows 7 all the files in iTunes are now in separate folders in iTunes Media so you get mobile apps, music, movies, podcasts etc. I don't know how Vista files were structured but on XP you found movies and podcasts as folders within the music folder.
You can also have folders 'duplicated' in that they can also be visible within another folder. I unknowingly had my iTunes folder stored in both My Music and My Pictures.
Rather than consolidate from the Edit menu choose preferences, go to the Advanced tab. In the top box you will see the location of your files (in my case it is Music\iTunes\iTunes Media), tick 'Keep iTunes Media Folder Organised' and 'Copy files to iTunes Media when adding to library' which should ensure future files go to the right place (and I believe sorts the existing files out.)

  • X-FI Xtreme Music with I/O Drive Upgrade Driv

    Hello,
I just installed the I/O Dri've Upgrade and so far everything works after I installed the cd that came with the kit.
When I went to Creative Labs webpage and did an autoupdate to check the drivers, it told me that I have a X-FI Platinum instead of a X-FI Xtreme Music.
I just wanted to check with you as I know the X-FI Xtreme Music with the upgrade kit is basically a X-FI Platinum, however should I install drivers for the X-FI Platinum in the future?

Yeah that's what I did - they're basically exactly the same card, but one comes with the I/O dri've and the other doesn't.

  • All backup/sync files for Iphone lost on old PC, anyway to sync with new PC without losing music, photos, contacts and texts?

All backup/sync files for Iphone lost on old PC, anyway to sync with new PC without losing music, photos, contacts and texts?

Make sure your new computer is authorized in iTunes. Disable autosync in itunes, connect your iphone, right click on it in the device list and choose backup.
This will save data, pictures and settings to itunes. See what's included in this backup here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1766
Transfer your purchases the same way to copy all apps and bought media from the Store to your computer.
Set up at least one contact and event on your computer to be able the merge your calendars and contacts after your device got wiped during the first sync.
The rest of the data can be restored from the backup you made.
    Restoring: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1414
Music is one way only, from the computer to your device, unless you bought the songs in itunes and transferred your purchases.
Apps can be downloaded again for free, in the US music as well. Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store
There is 3rd party software out there, but not supported by Apple, see this thread: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2013615&tstart=0

  • Can I put my music from my ipod onto a new computer without losing music?

I have had to recently get a new computer. I have iTunes downloaded. I would like to put the music that i have on my ipod onto the new computer. I am afraid to sync in that I will lose my music and have to redo my library and lose purchased music as well.
Is it possible to do it without losing music?

One of the reasons why including your iTunes library with your computer's backup is a good idea. Use this link for future reference in this regard.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1751
iTunes includes an option to transfer iTunes content that was purchased/downloaded from the iTunes store from an iPod, iPad, and iPhone, but this is for iTunes content that was purchased/downloaded from the iTunes store only.
First you need to authorize your new computer with your iTunes account with iTunes if you haven't already done so.
With your iPhone connected and without syncing, at the iTunes menu bar go to File and select Transfer Purchases From - the name of your iPhone.

  • No sound while plying music with iTunes

    Hi,
Recently, I do not have any more sound coming from iTunes. All sound from other applications and system sounds are all working well but nothing from iTunes, neither from my music nor from the movies. iTune stay silent whatever the output I choos in sys_pref/sound (wire headset, blutooth headset, internal iMac speacker,...) . Does any one has the same issue or any solution to this issue.
I am using an iMac early 2008 under OS X 10.8.2 and iTunes 11.0.1(12)

The button Play/pause not working and the play-bar is not moving.
In my case, the Play/pPause button is working and the play-bar is moving.
The moovies are also progressing (Image not frost) but it look like it every thing in iTune is muted, whatever the actions I am doing on the volume controle.

This problem have appeared after upgrade to iTunes 11.
I can not say if it is due to the update of iTunes, I usually not listen my music with iTune. It is just a coincidence I noticed it yesterday. I am sure that the sound was working when I was under "Lion", several month ago. But I can not determine if the problem occurs after iTune update or Mountain Lion upgrade.

  • Play music with yamaha RX-V573

I have a yamaha RX-V573 receiver that used to play music from my iphone via the serial connection without difficulty.  Now after the latest IOS upgrade the music will play but I can no longer start the music with the receiver's remote as I could before. The phone connects to the receiver fine and I can choose 'music' or 'video' and pick a song but the song will not start.  I have to go into the phone and the music app and start it manually.  The remote will them advance the songs if needed.
    Any help would be appreciated.

    Hello chrispee1976,
Welcome to the Apple Support Communities! It sounds like you are interested in setting up bluetooth connectivity between your iPhone 6 and your vehicle. The following resource provides information on pairing your device to a car kit accessory. However, you may also need to refer to your owner’s manual or consult with your vehicle manufacturer for additional information on initiating the pairing process:

  • ITunes Match says "Matching your music with songs from iTunes store".

iTunes Match says "Matching your music with songs from iTunes store". This will not finish. I cannot put any new songs on iTunes Match. This started today. It was working fine. I have deleted my entire library and I can't even get one song to go through. Thoughts? I've been working with this all day. I have uninstalled iTunes, downgraded iTunes, upgraded iTunes again. Finally, I erased all data...Libraries...playlist data, etc.. I'm extremely frustrated now. I had synced about 4,000 songs since September and it had been working fine. Any help would be great.

I think your right that it is not completely impossible to match any song, although I have tried several songs from several different albums and none have worked so far. The weird thing is is that I have the same Match account on two different computers, and when I match a song on one and it gets stuck, I can see it in my library on the other computer but its greyed out. Not sure what that means. It has worked perfeclty for me since I got it in March, so I'm hoping whatever it is gets sorted out by Apple. If it starts working for any of you please let me know in this discussion!

I've lost the voice track when I listen to music with headphones. What happened? Can I get the complete sound back?

Try compressed air. Try tweezers and a magnifying glass with good light.
The next step would be to Google an iPhone repair service in your area or use this as a good reason to upgrade.

  • Cannot Sync Photos and Music with iTunes

After I updated my iPad mini and iPhone 5s to iOS 8, I cannot remove my music from my iPad to create more space, and I cannot restore the photos that was removed from my phone during the update process. With my iPad, I tried removing the music with iTunes on my Mac and the message appears asking if I want to remove music after I uncheck sync music, but it did nothing to my iPad, even after I synced multiple times. I even tried removing music on my iPad by going to Setting>General>Usage>Music, but one I clicked on Music the app would crash to the home screen. I have tried doing this with or without it connect to iTunes, as well as restarting it but nothing works. It keeps crashing.
With my iPhone I tried syncing photos multiple times but it is always stuck on (step 5 of 6: Importing photos), where it will continue for hours and then give up. I tried unchecking the sync photos first and then tying to sync it with the photos again but the same problem persists. I also tried removing the iPod Photo cache from my iPhoto Library and then syncing it again but nothing.

Problems solved! Apparently when iTunes 10.5 is installed, the settings for what to sync, e.g. photos, music is reset to the default in which no content is synched.  What's more, these settings are not particularly obvious in the Windows version on iTunes, as you have to scroll down to actually see them.  There is also no message or other information as part of the upgrade process that warns that theses boxes will revert to being unchecked after the upgrade.
From a user-centered design process, POV the upgrade and its instructions are woefully disappointing :-(

  • Itunes does not allow me to sync music with iphone?

Itunes does not allow me to sync music with iphone?

Have a similar issue.  Have iphone 4 running ios7.  itunes 11.1.3.8.  Probably is intermittent (once every 2 weeks?) and persistent.   Syncs fine for days.  Then all at once playlists are not updated.   For example; over the holidays I added some holiday songs to a playlist.  Today I removed the holiday songs from the playlist in itunes.  Sync the phone.  All messages indicate sync is successful.  Songs still in playlist on the phone!  Continues to happen over multiple syncs.  In the past I have had some songs update but not all songs.  This cycle of attempting syncing continues until other songs on the iphone 'disappear' (they are listed in playlists but don't play!).   Don't know the cause but it is very annoying and unpredictable.   Eventually taking all music off the iphone and then adding it back works but even this take multiple iterations.   These issues seem to have started after upgrading to ios7.  I have workarounds that are very timeconsuming.  I'm interested in solutions to the root cause.  Can anyone help?
