Losing My Mind (well..., maybe just my Internet Connection)

Hi All,
I keep experiencing intermittent loss of my internet connection. When I do, I select the connection icon at the top of the page. Sometimes it lists my network, sometimes not. In any case, selecting it does not re-establish my connection. The only way I can do this is to reboot the computer. This always works. Any ideas on what might be causing this?
Resting my head in my hands...

Hi, I have the same problem. I get kicked off the network every time I switch users or if the computer goes to sleep. I have a brand new (2 days) 20" iMac. (10.4.9 as you would expect). I followed your advice BDAqua. I get into the airport tab of network. The "By Default, join:" tab only has one option which is "A specific network" and there is no - sign to get rid of the only network there. I used the migration assistant to bring everything from my old G4 iMac but that did not have this problem.
Any advice would be appreciated

  • Well, maybe just a few, but I just wanted

Well, maybe just a few, but I just wanted to say Apple that iPhoto 6 is a huge improvement over 5. You finally got me to switch from iView, and for the most part, I'm very happy with the results. I used to shoot in RAW+jpeg because I usually wanted to e-mail a bunch of shots quickly to the in-laws wihout futzing around with conversions for every picture, but now I let iPhoto create the jpegs for me on import. I actually love the way iPhoto automatically creates jpegs from the RAW's for mailing or sharing on the web. Saves me a lot of space on the camera cards now that I can just shoot in RAW and leave the jpeg creation to iPhoto. For the small subset of RAW's that I want to fully process, I just control+click edit to open up DPP or photo shop, where I fully process and then save in TIFF and then use an automator to bring the Tiff back into iPhoto. Works like a charm, and I don't have to fudge around in the iView library keeping track of zillions of jpeg's and RAW's. I also like the way iPhoto keeps your original RAW intact no matter what edits you make.
Even though the new iPhoto lets you reference files, ala iView, I've decided to abandon this practice, and let the app manage folders for me. I learned after using iView for the last few years, that there isn't much point in managing files if you also have albums and keywords. I always thought it was important to manage files, but I just ended up piling everything into year folders anyway and then using catalogs and keywords to organize. There's just no need to fight the app. Might as well use the visual interface, albums, and keywords, and leave the plumbing to iPhoto.
iView has far more robust keywording and tagging, but it frankly was overkill for my 7,000 photo library. For those times when I want to archive off-line, I'll probably use iView since it excels at that, but everything online will stay on iPhoto.
I might make the jump to Aperture once it get's beyond beta (it sure seems like it's still beta) but then again, iPhoto's pretty darn good for my needs. Oh, and thanks Apple for fixing the performance issues. iPhoto 5 was unusable, but 6 is a screamer.

  • Voice control does not kick in place of SIRI when there is no internet connection

i have an iPhone 4s. i mainly use WIFI at both home and work. and am quite happy with SIRI. but when i leave home for work or am on my way back home after work quite often i press and hold the volume button to give voice command to call my wife. but SIRI does not work!
well, because SIRI needs internet connection and i dont bother using mobile internet (cause then i will need to turn on 3G which drains my battery like nothing on earth) it can not work.
but why does not my ordinary voice control kick in? since 4S is such a great gadget and is so smart in every way (apart from the pictures taken with the volume button could not be turned to adjust orientation in windows!) i was expecting this would be a normal thing to expect from it.
anyways, hope someday they would fix this.

I'm assuming you can either use Siri or Voice Control, but not both.  I think if you turn Siri on the activation used to use Siri is removed from Voice Control and vice versa.  This is just my own theory.  Maybe a future software update might allow this.

  • Does syncing only use desktop internet connection?

I have  6.1 windows XP on my Palm treo pro. When syncing I wondered whether it uses my mobiles internet connection as well as my desktops internet connection. When reading about syncing it implies that only the desktop is being used. Can I confim this is the case so I am not paying for useage on my mobile.
Also I keep setting my data connection from the comm manager OFF but it comes back on if I accidentally connect to an internet page. I think I was advised that a choice should be given by my phone as to whether I wanted to connect or not. Instead it connects to the internet automatically. Then when you go to the comm manager it shows the data connection has switched back ON again of course. I wanted to stop my phone connecting initially and be given the choice if I wanted to connect. If I cannot do this then is there a setting that will at least stop the connection to the net. I have looked through all the phone help menus for my palm treo pro and cannot find how its done?
    Thanks very much.
Post relates to: Treo Pro T850U (Unlocked)

Thanks Jeffro thats seems like a great idea. I decided to look for a different option before using your method. I seem to have got into more of a pickle unbelivabley. I did manage to disable the internet but cannot work out how on earth to re-enable it now.  I did the following to stop the orange network connection. I went first into setting>connections>set up my proxy>modem. This shows NAME and underneath -ORANGE network . I pressed and held the touch screen over the word ORANGE to access the short cut. It gave an option to add or delete. In my lack of wisdom I decided to delete this. It stopped the internet but there seems no way to re-enable back to orange which I'd assumed you could do. I of course prefer your idea from the comm manager settings given it could then be re-enabled in theory.  I started  by  re-enabling the data connection which said ON but gives no net connection now since deleting Orange as explained above. So I cannot now try Jeffro's idea in above's post.  Does anyone have a treo pro to help me out on this to re-enable the orange internet? . Its turing into a Nightmare!  hope someone can help. Shall I contact orange or palm maybe? I don't think palm support the treo pro though as its an older phone, may be they do still? Can orange re-enable my phone from there end without me manually correcting something in my phone settings?
I apologise for all the questions seems everything is going pear shaped. Does anyone use the TREO PRO if so can they take pity on my post and help - thanks!! and thanks Jeffro for the help so far.
By the way I found this other post from 2008 for when I do eventually, somehow? , get my connection back. I think this is what Jeffro was saying and i will eventually implement when back on the net -

  • How to share Windows 7 Internet connection AND Extreme USB hard disk?

    Hi All,
I'm trying to share the mobile broadband Internet connection on a Windows 7 PC as well as the USB hard disk connected to the Airport Extreme (2nd Gen) with other WiFi devices. The problem is that I can get either the one to work or the other, but not both.
When I configure the Airport Extreme for DHCP+NAT, all machines on the Airport network can see each other, share files, etc. When I enable Internet Connection Sharing on the Windows 7 machine, the only way I've gotten that to work is to set the Airport Extreme to bridge mode, but then file sharing of the Airport Extreme's disk no longer works.
Device info: Internet-connected Dell Latitude E5420 Windows 7 Professional 32-bit, Airport Extreme 802.11n (2nd Gen), Windows XP Home Edition + Nokia N8 + etc. WiFi devices.
I've read all the manuals I could find and searched these forums but haven't been able to figure out a solution. I'm really getting desperate and will really appreciate any and all suggestions!
    Many thanks,
    Francois

I've found a solution that works with my existing equipment. It's now possible to share the Windows 7 machine's Internet connection at the same time as the AirPort's drive. An additional challenge was to avoid having to manually reconfigure every WiFi client, but it turned out that's also possible.
For the sake of posterity, here's the guide! :-)
    Background
My setup is based on an AirPort Extreme access point WiFi network. The AirPort shares a hard drive, and a number of Windows clients connect to the network. One of these, a Windows 7 machine, has a USB mobile broadband dongle which I also wanted to share with the network.
Previously I got this to work, but whatever configuration I came up with required manual reconfiguration of each network client, one way or the other. This was not ideal. Also, Internet Connection Sharing (ICS) defaults to IP address .1, the same one to which the AirPort defaults. This needed manual reconfiguration of the ICS host each time ICS was turned on.
    Solution
THIS SOLUTION REQUIRES THE AIRPORT TO BE IN EITHER DHCP + NAT OR DHCP MODE. IF FOR SOME REASON YOU DEPEND ON THE AIRPORT BEING IN BRIDGE MODE, UNFORTUNATELY THIS SOLUTION WILL NOT WORK FOR YOU.
    1. Do the AirPort's non-Internet configuration
On the AirPort Utility main screen, click the AirPort button, work through all the tab sheets and configure the items as you require. Do the same for the Printers, Disks and Advanced buttons. Once that's complete, we can do the Internet configuration.
    2. Set the AirPort to DHCP & NAT
This is needed so you can choose the AirPort network address in the next step (but you can still set a different Connection Sharing mode later on, see step 7). For now, set Connection Sharing to Share a public IP address:
    3. Set the AirPort to the same network address as ICS
Set the AirPort to the network address used by ICS, namely 192.168.137.xyz. Note that the AirPort does not allow a beginning address below 2:
    4. Obtain the AirPort's MAC addresses
These will be used in the next step. Record both the Airport ID as well as the Ethernet ID:
    5. Fix the AirPort IP addresses to prevent clashing with ICS
The AirPort will default to the same IP address as ICS, namely 192.168.137.1. To prevent this, assign different addresses to the AirPort with DHCP reservations. Underneath DHCP Reservations, click the '+' and create reservations for each of the AirPort and Ethernet interfaces. You can use other values, but to be consistent with the rest of this guide use 192.168.137.253 for the AirPort interface and 192.168.137.254 for the Ethernet inteface:
    6. Distribute ICS configuration data with AirPort DHCP
Yes, you read right! This is where the magic happens. To avoid having to manually configure each WiFi client for the additional ICS network, that configuration data is included with the AirPort DHCP configuration. Assuming you've stuck to the numbers above, configure the TCP/IP screen exactly as shown. .254 is the AirPort router (and also its Ethernet interface) address, and .1 is the IP address that Windows configures for the ICS interface:
    7. Set AirPort Connection Sharing
If your AirPort is sharing a connection on its WAN port, choose Share a public IP address, otherwise choose Distribute a range of IP address. In the latter case the NAT tab disappears:
    8. Save your AirPort's configuration
Your AirPort configuration is now complete and you can push the Update button. Once your AirPort has rebooted, its network will be fully operational.
    9. Ensure your Internet sharing port is correctly configured
ICS involves two network ports on the sharing computer - the shared Internet-connected port, and the sharing port connected to your local network. When you enable ICS on the shared port, Windows will temporarily configure the sharing port's settings to fit in with the scheme above (it will get the fixed IP address 192.168.137.1). When ICS is disabled, Windows will restore the default configuration of the sharing port. The purpose of this step is to ensure that the default sharing port configuration is correct. When ICS is inactive the sharing port needs to obtain an IP address automatically from the AirPort via DHCP. Right-click your chosen WiFi sharing connection > Properties > Networking > Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4) > Properties and configure as follows:
    10. Share your Internet connection
Right-click the connection you want to share > Properties > Sharing and configure as follows (you may find the other settings also useful but they're not covered here):
And now you're ready to enjoy your local network services as well as your shared Internet connection, all on your Airport Extreme network - without having to lift a finger to configure network clients!
    Windows Network Profiles
If you use Windows network profiles to distinguish between Home, Work and Public networks, here are some additional notes you may find useful.
As Windows recognises networks, it applies their assigned profiles which add or remove sets of restrictions wrt. network discovery, file & printer sharing and so on. The amount of ICS configuration data that can be included with AirPort DHCP information is limited and in some instances this interferes with how Windows recognises networks.
It seems that Windows recognises a network once a default router has been configured for it. Following are some known scenarios with fixes for each, based on that principle.
    1. WiFi network not recognised
When ICS is enabled, on the ICS host Windows configures only an IP address for the sharing port and no default router. When ICS is disabled, on the ICS host this port receives its configuration from the AirPort via DHCP, as do all other WiFi clients. This DHCP configuration includes router information for the ICS network, but again no router information for the AirPort network itself.
Therefore the AirPort network is not recognised on any Windows machines on the WiFi network, under any circumstances.
To make Windows recognise the AirPort network, execute the following from the command line with Administrator privileges:
         route -4 add 0.0.0.0 mask 0.0.0.0 192.168.137.254 metric 3000
This metric is high enough to ensure that "real" default routes get preference over this one.
If you want to remove the above routing table entry, execute the following from the command line with Administrator privileges:
         route -4 delete 0.0.0.0 192.168.137.254
For convenience I created shortcuts for these two commands.
    2. WiFi network recognised, unrecognised network remains
Once you've added the route above to make Windows recognise your AirPort network, when ICS is disabled Windows will probably identify TWO networks on your WiFi adapter:
         Unidentified network, your_AirPort_network
Windows now recognises your AirPort network, but the DHCP router entry for the inactive ICS network makes it think there must be yet another network. However, the 192.168.137.1 ICS port is not present when ICS is inactive, so Windows reports the inactive router entry as an unidentified network.
If you want to remove this unidentified network/router entry, execute the following from the command line with Administrator privileges:
         route -4 delete 0.0.0.0 192.168.137.1
On your Windows ICS host, removing this entry can cause no harm.
However, on network clients where you removed this entry and subsequently want to share your Internet connection from again, you'll need to add it back.
To restore the ICS router entry, execute the following from the command line with Administrator privileges:
         route -4 add 0.0.0.0 mask 0.0.0.0 192.168.137.1 metric 1

    Hello,
after my N78 connects to PC Suite (7.0.8.2) via bluetooth, the mobile tries to establish an internet connection via GPRS or WLAN.
Any ideas how to stop this?
    Thanks!
    Best regards
    Franz

    That did the trick.  Thanks!
First I just changed the channel, but that didn't fix it.  So then I changed the SSID, WEP and made the WEP 128 this time instead of 64.  And I'm good to go.  So I thought I was a pretty knowledgeable guy about this stuff, but I'm confused why that was causing just my internet connection to restart.  If you have the time can you educate me please?

    Greetings,
I've never seen this issue, and I handle many iPads, of all versions. WiFi issues are generally local to the WiFi router - they are not all of the same quality, range, immunity to interference, etc. You have distance, building construction, and the biggie - interference.
At home, I use Apple routers, and have no issues with any of my WiFi enabled devices, computers, mobile devices, etc - even the lowly PeeCees. I have locations where I have Juniper Networks, as well as Aruba, and a few Netgears - all of them work as they should.
The cheaper routers, Linksys, D-Link, Seimens home units, and many other no name devices have caused issues of various kinds, and even connectivity.
I have no idea what Starbucks uses, but I always have a good connection, and I go there nearly every morning and get some work done, as well as play.
You could try changing channels, 2.4 to 5 Gigs, changing locations of the router. I have had to do all of these at one time or another over the many years that I have been a Network Engineer.
    Good Luck - Cheers,
    M.

    Hello,
I have very similar problem. Suddenly Firefox stopped work - It was working few days after ver. 4 update. I was looking everywhere for some solution but nothing worked.
    - uninstalled firewall - did not worked
    - added full exception for Firefox into the firewall - did not worked
    - Firefox reinstall - did not worked
    - Firefox complete reinstall (registry included) - did not worked
    - IPv6 diseabling - did not worked
    - diferent proxy options (no proxy, system proxy, autodetect proxy) - did not worked
    - new firefox profile - did not worked
    - complete coockies, history... deleted - did not worked
    - there is only one solution which partly works - I have used public proxy addresses for Firefox but the ping is (750ms), down/up (0.8MB/0.2MB originaly (10MB/2MB) and yes I have tried different proxy server from different countries from my included.
    - IE is working perfectly and without proxy
    - other companies browser - did not worked too
    - only IE is working
    - I have used three different malware, trojans, spyware, anti-virus programs and nothing
It seems to me as hopeless situation or very clever move from Microsoft, I am forced to use IE - at least this works
    Any ideas, solutions?

  • WRT54g2 and comcast modem, internet dropouts, losing my mind.

Title of the post sums it up. I've literally spent hours and hours on the phone with linksys tech support. I've replaced the modem once and the problem is identical.
Basically, I get everything setup and it works fine for a period of time, usually a few days. Then, internet gets really slow before it stops working altogether.
When I lose internet connection however my home network is still functioning. My computers still talk to each other and I can usually still stream content to my PS3. Even my utorrent downloads will continue seeding and downloading.
When it internet stops working I power cycle the router and it works again. But every time I do that the period of time that it functions properly gets shorter and shorter, to the point where I will power cycle it and within 5 minutes I lose internet.
Firmware is up to date, 1.5.01. Wireless network is secured. I do not experience any dropouts when the either computer is wired directly to the modem.
I have a W7 laptop on wireless, wired W7 desktop, and a wireless PS3 on the network. And recently I began sharing my wireless with my neighbor. But I've had issues long before that.
After some research, I came across this thread.
    http://homecommunity.cisco.com/t5/Wireless-Routers/I-need-to-reconfigure-my-WRT54G2-to-work-with-Com...
Basically setting the the router ip to 192.168.2.1 instead of 1.1 and enabling mac address clone.
This actually helped and I thought my internet woes were over. But at the time I was in between desktop PCs (building one to replace my old Dell).
After a couple days of my new desktop on the network my old problems began again. Could utorrent be causing any issue because I notice it seems to get worse when my desktop is downloading, or maybe not it just seems that way.
There have been times where the computer gave an ip address conflict message. I've tried static ip but have not been able to get that to work probably due to something I've been missing in the process. I'd prefer not to have to resort to static ip because I take my laptop to work and for travel and would prefer not to have be going back and forth on my settings. And I would like guests to be able to come over with their laptop and just quickly log on and not have to change their ip.
So I'm at a loss, not sure what else to try. This is also the 2nd brand of modem I tried, the first was a dlink that I just returned right away because I thought it was faulty.
Any thoughts or suggestions would be very much appreciated.
    Thanks.

MTU is the Maximum Transmission Unit. It specifies the largest packet size permitted for Internet transmission. Keep the default setting, Auto, to have the Router select the best MTU for your Internet connection. To specify a MTU size, select Manual, and enter the value desired (default is 1400).  You should leave this value in the 1200 to 1500 range.
The default value is 100. Enter a value between 1 and 65,535 milliseconds. The Beacon Interval value indicates the frequency interval of the beacon. A beacon is a packet broadcast by the Router to synchronize the wireless network.
This value should remain at its default setting of 2347. The range is 0-2347 bytes.
<script type="text/javascript">// Capture(hwireless.phase11) // </script> Should you encounter inconsistent data flow, only minor modifications are recommended. If a network packet is smaller than the preset RTS threshold size, the RTS/CTS mechanism will not be enabled. The Router sends Request to Send (RTS) frames to a particular receiving station and negotiates the sending of a data frame. After receiving an RTS, the wireless station responds with a Clear to Send (CTS) frame to acknowledge the right to begin transmission.
This value should remain at its default setting of 2346. The range is 256-2346 bytes. It specifies the maximum size for a packet before data is fragmented into multiple packets. If you experience a high packet error rate, you may slightly increase the Fragmentation Threshold. Setting the Fragmentation Threshold too low may result in poor network performance. Only minor modifications of this value are recommended.

  • Sporadic Rotating Loss of Internet Connection for Just Some Devices

    Hi,
We've been having a problem where one or two of our devices (phones, laptops, iPads, Apple TV) lose internet connection for 10-30 sec at a time, while the others are fine.
As best as I can tell it's a full loss of connection, not just something running very slowly due to us pushing the bandwidth limits. I've experienced the latter elsewhere and this manifests very differently. It will instantly and fully disconnect a person from an online game or drop a skype call without the accompanying prolonged lag or distortion of bottlenecked bandwidth.
It happens at all times of day, and does not seem related to our peak times of bandwidth usage, nor the general public's peak times of usage.
We should have enough bandwidh for our usage, and usually we do. Our system is 25/25 Mbps and during our peak use at most we would probably have 1 laptop gaming, 1 HD video stream, and 2 non-HD streams. However, like I said before, the problem seems unrelated to overall bandwidth usage. The same problem occurs even at midnight when our local usage is minimal.
Overall we have 6 laptops, 5 phones, an iPad, 2 microcell signal boosters, and Apple TV, in total connected to the FiOS. We have a property with tenants where the signal is distributed via 3 WiFi routers and one direct ethernet cable to my laptop, and one to the Apple TV.
It happens on devices that are both connected through the WiFi (wife's laptop, phones, iPad) and ethernet (my laptop, Apple TV). It can happen with devices that are a few unobstructed feet from the WiFi router. However, it anecdotely seems to happen more on our phones than laptops.
My hunch is it is something outside our local network. This is because our equipment  and usage has basically remained unchanged over the last couple months. (We got one new microcell tower for a different carrier, one new wifi router, but overall same # of people and patterns of usage.) And yet the problem seems to be getting worse. Back in probably early November I don't remember this problem occuring at all.
My second best guess is there are more devices connected to the network than it can handle simultaneously, and it rotates which gets kicked off. Maybe this was occuring before but we didnt realize it.
My third guess is it has to due with signal interference with the various WiFi routers and microcell boosters. However, this seems less likely since it also affects devices connected via ethernet cables.
Any thoughts or advice is much appreciated! Thanks!
    -Ned

Ok, so in the mean time we decided to upgrade our service so I've only tried this solution now.
My problem though now is I can log into 192.168.1.1, then give my verizon admin password, and then set my channel preference. That seems fine for changing the main network input and wifi router (call it A).
However, we have another wifi router (call it B) which is fed from A via a cable. I cannot figure out how to change B's wifi channel. Therefore I worry if we have only switched A, since A feeds B (as well as the 2 microcells) they will all still be on the same channel and therefore still interfering with each other.
I have tried www.routerlogin.net (and .com) as written on my netgear router and I get "http://searchassist.verizon.com/" telling me "Sorry, We could not find www.routerlogin.net". I have also tried logging into wifi router B via all the 192.168.1.X addresses I see listed on the Verzion account when I log in via 192.168.1.1 (in total I tried all the 192.168.1.[1-24] options).
    Thanks for the help!

  • My new Mac Mini suddenly losing Internet connection periodically.

It just seems like "out of the blue" I'm suddenly losing the Internet connection (when browsing) then eventually it returns only to lose connection again. Have not had this problem before, now suddenly happening all the time. My iPad never has this problem (it's on the same wifi network), so it's got me wondering is the problem "in" the Mac  Mini? Thanks for any information you might be able to supply.

I have had similar troubles with my Mac Mini for several months now and have tried all of the above plus more (including taking the thing apart to make sure the antenna wire had not come unmoored). I can set the MacBook Pro on the same desk with the Mini and its Airport connection will remain strong and steady while the Mini waffles and stalls, on and off.
I have pretty much concluded that the fault lies with Mini's Airport, the card itself most likely but perhaps some other factor. The past few weeks I have been keeping the Mini online by sharing the MBP's Airport connection via ethernet. This works well (and further points to Mini's Airport as the culprit) but is is rather cumbersome since I am constantly disconnecting the MBP for road work.
At this point I am thinking that the better solution would be to add an Airport Express to the network, connecting the Mini to wifi via ethernet. At this point I am certain, based on experience, that no amount of permission repairing, user account switching, new network creating or network rebooting in whole or in part will fix the problem.

  • HT1379 my internet connection is incredibly slow - I know it is not the fault of the modem as other devices are fast. This article was suggested to me as a solution. I think they were just trying to get me off their back. Anyone else experience this?

If Safari is getting very slow:
(Presumably you regularly empty your Safari cache by deleting the following file:
    Home/Library/Caches/com.apple.Safari/cache.db
    and clear your History)
Adding Open DNS codes to your Network Preferences, should give good results in terms of speed-up as well as added security, (including anti-phishing and redirects) (Full information about Open DNS is here:   http://www.opendns.com/home-solutions ) and further independent information can be read here:

If you are using a single computer: Open System Preferences/Network. Double click on your connection type, or select it in the drop-down menu, and in the box marked 'DNS Servers' add the following two numbers:
    208.67.222.222
    208.67.220.220
(You can also enter them if you click on Advanced and then DNS)
Sometimes reversing the order of the DNS numbers can be beneficial in cases where there is a long delay before web pages start to load, and then suddenly load at normal speed:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2296
If your computer is part of a network:please refer to this page: http://www.opendns.com/start/best_practices/#your_network and follow the advice given.
If you use a Router, make sure it has the latest firmware installed.
One reason for a slowness in page loading may be the 'DNS Pre-fetching' feature of Safari 5.x as is described here:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3408?viewlocale=en_US
You can cancel DNS pre-fetching by going to Terminal and typing:
defaults write com.apple.safari WebKitDNSPrefetchingEnabled -boolean false
You have to restart Safari for it to take effect.
If Safari seems to hang for ages:
If you have a lot of tabs open and/or a lot of pages running Flash, Safari can sometimes 'hang', requiring a restart of Safari. This can often be inconvenient, and as it is rarely Safari itself that is hanging but merely one of its plug-ins, usually Flash, there is a way using Terminal to restart the plug-ins (without restarting Safari and losing your tabs) by quitting the WebPluginHost process:
Open the Terminal from the Utilities folder in /Applications and type
    killall -9 WebKitPluginHost
Note that this command kills all Safari plug-ins, not just Flash. All plug-ins should start back up when you reload the page.
Then go back to Safari and refresh any pages that were using the Flash plug-in. This also fixes the Beachball of Death. Try this whenever Safari gets slow or freezes. The later versions of Flash 10.1 onwards appear to have improved the situation somewhat, but haven't completed eliminated it.
For this and other reasons Apple switched their websites to HTML5 in January 2011:

  • Time capsule keeps losing internet connection

I seem to keep losing the internet connection, and this seems to be when Time Capsule is doing backups. It is fine most of the time, it seems to have an IP address, but I can't connect to the internet. This seems to happen when it is doing backups. Have I got the time capsule set up correctly? I am using it with BT Home Hub which is also a wireless router, and I have set up Time Capsule to join the same wireless network. Most of the time it works fine. It also works fine when connected via ethernet, so I don't think there is anything wrong with the Time Capsule, maybe just the way it's set up. Or does it always behave like that? Can anyone offer any suggestions?

I have Snow Leopard 10.6.3, I don't have 10.6.4 yet though am just about to install it, so it can't just be related to 10.6.4.
This morning when I booted up, I had lost my desktop background picture, the clock was wrong and my keychains seemed to be messed up. Nothing else seemed to be wrong, but I restored a backup anyway, and repaired the keychains. I don't know whether this had anything to do with Time Capsule or not, but I have my suspicions. At the moment I have connected the Mac to the Time Capsule by ethernet, and that seems to be OK, but I'd like to be able to put the Time Capsule in another room, to extend the range of the wireless network. I did wonder if there could be interference between Time Capsule and the Home Hub, as they are quite close to each other.
I do not seem to have any problems when using my Macbook Pro.

  • E2500 - Losing internet connection

The only think nice about the router is the flat panel look.
Sometimes it works, but most of the time it doesnt. It seems to have a mind of its own. I guess that old saying "you get what you pay for" doesnt always apply, since I paid a premium amount for what I thought was a premium router. Even their tech support let me down. Several chats and 3hrs later, I still have not made any progress at getting this to work the way it should. Sometimes it just bogs down, sometimes it looses internet connectivity momentarily, sometimes it wouldnt even connect the LAN connections to the internet. The lame tech support kept saying that i had to use MAC cloning. Uh, yeah right! If it works w/o it sometime it should work w/o it all the time. And my last router of 4yrs never used it on the same ISP.

Well, before I suggest you any troubleshooting steps. I would like to know few question. Let me know the name of the ISP (Internet Service Provider) – means is it a Cable connection or a DSL connection?
Well, here is the link for setting up the router for Cable connection:
    http://www6.nohold.net/Cisco2/ukp.aspx?vw=1&docid=0ff4c94586a345d082828ec2161aaecf_3686.xml&pid=80&r...
Here is the link for setting up the router for DSL connection: http://www6.nohold.net/Cisco2/ukp.aspx?vw=1&docid=20ee1457387f40178cd5f41d4b585db4_3687.xml&pid=80&r...
There are many reasons why you experience poor signal or connection. Your intermittent wireless connection has a relation to the kind of setup that you have in your home or office. You should be able to get a good connection without having to be in the same room, but you do need to be in range of the router, and there may be interference in your home or neighborhood. You can adjust your settings to improve your signal. If you used the Cisco Connect installation disk, then open up the Cisco Connect software on your computer. Click on “Router setting” window, and then click on the “Advanced settings” button. That will opened the Router Setup page, then click on Wireless Tab and make the following adjustments:
Channel Settings of 2.4 GHz, set Channel Width to 20 MHz only and Channel to 6, 9, or 11.
If you configured the Router manually, open up the browser and type 192.168.1.1 in your address bar. That will open the Router setup page and you can set the channel as above.
You should also make sure you upgrade the drivers for the WLAN card on your laptop computers.

  • Losing internet connection randomly (wlan stays connected) - wicd

Since about a week now I'm running into endless problems with my wlan connection - before that, all worked well (I didn't changed any hardware)
I'm losing my internet connection in random intervals and I can't track down the reason for this problem. I've a dual-boot setup with win7 on it and there I have constant connection so this can't be any hardware problem.
I am using wicd to manage my wlan (wicd-kde, wicd-curses).
always used dhcp and never made any problems -even tried with static IP now which unfortunately didn't help.
One thing to mention - even if I'm connected, the connection seems very slow, compared to the laptop I'm on (in the same network).
    now some console output:
    lspci | grep -i net

really don't know what to do now - help is very much appreciated!
    thanks in advance

    Thanks for you answer!
Actually, I tried it with dhclient too and it didn't helped at all.
I switched to netcfg(2) now and it seems working  - wicd is completely removed from my system - hopefully it will stay like this now.
the only problem for now is that my connection seems quite slow - any ideas where/how I can track down possible issues?
still I've no idea what was/is causing those problems since in win7 all works well..
