Losing output from rear speak

Hello,
I have a SB Audigy 2 DS sound card and a Dell 5. Surround Sound speaker systems. All the speaker tests work and normally all the speakers work.
My problem is that sometime I notice that the sound has stopped coming out of the rear speakers. I don't really no what causes it or what it is that I manage to do to get it restored.
When I notice it, I usually end up rebooting, monkeying around with the calibration settings, monkeying around in the Control Panel>Sounds and Audio Devices>Speaker setting, etc. Everything always looks normal and after monkeying around long enough the rear sound is usually restored.
I just noticed it and spent fi've minutes monkeying around getting it restored. This is becoming frustrating as everything work perfectly for over a year. There most be some sort of conflict but what and where is beyond me.
If any of you readers have ever experience anything like this and can offer assistance I will appreciate it. Thanks.

Here's a tip from something that I discovered. Not sure who/what resets the volumes, but for some reason Windows will set the volume for all channels OTHER THAN left/right to 0, effecti'vely muting them. The solution? Go to "Control Panel", "Sound and Audio Devices", click on "Speaker Voume..." in the bottom half, and make sure that all the sliders are at max or at least moving together. This was my problem when I lost center and rear speaker outputs despite all other testing showing no problem.

  • 4.1 Speaker Setup - No sound from rear speak

    Opsys: Windows 2000 (just installed)
    Card: Audigy 2 ZS Platinum
Software: Installed full sets of Creative software, everything runs
I'm trying to set up a 4. system where I'm using 2 set sets of stereo speakers plugged into line outs # and #2.
The problem is that I get sound only from line out #. All attempts at plugging the second set of speakers into the other line outs doesn't do anything for sound. I have switched the 2 sets around and they both work from lineout #.
The speaker calibration program only works for the front left and right speaker (i.e. no rear speaker output). I have tried more than just the 4. option, but none of them produce any sound to the rear speakers.
I have enabled EAX and CMSS, but this hasn't done any good. Still no sound from the rear speakers.
I checked the speaker set up and the volumes are midway for all speakers, both front and back.
Soooo. My guess is driver problems or maybe the 2 way stereo plug doesn't work with the 3 way plugs of line out #2 and #3.
    Any ideas?
    Rick

Okay, I get the stupid award for this one. I didn't notice that I was plugging my rear speakers into to the mic instead of the lineout 2. Well, in my defense, they are symetrically located around lineout and they do fit.
I would suggest people with sound issues to look at the other utilities. The one that helped was the Thx Setup console. This displays all info about the speakers, analog/digital settings, and even a picture showing the card plugs (that got the noodle thinking).
Also the Surround Mixer showed the correct configuration of the 4 speakers but without a sub hooked up. This fits my 2 stereo connections exactly.
    Cheers.

  • No Sound From Rear Speak

I just noticed there is no sound coming out of my rear speakers. I have the Creative SOUND BLASTER X-Fi Fatalty card and the Logitech z-5500 speakers. EAX is enabled and I have tried checking out control panel on XP. Anyone have an idea?

  • Aud2 ZS platnm I get I/O from front panel, but no output from REAR OF CA

I had a Audigy2 in my Dell, worked fine. I needed MORE I/O ports. I got a Audigy2 ZS platinum for the front panel (extra I/O) front panel works fine, sound card sounds fine, all is well - except I get no output from the back of the card. (certainly this isn't a "front OR rear" sort of thing?)
    About ready to return it.

I DO get digital output from the front and back (front panel on front of Dell) and back of card. I don't get ANALOG output from card. I thought I recall a selecti've click box in the software that said "digital only" where is that. (I HATE creatives software - SO MANY LITTLE UTIL PROGRAMS THAT DO LITTLE OR NOTHING EACH) you have to HUNT through them all to find the option you need.

  • Cant hear from rear speak

I have installed my new Audigy 2 ZS hardware and software in concordance with my logitech z-5300e 5. surround sound speakers. For some reason, i cant hear from the rear speakers.. but not like nothing. I go into the EAX console and i play the song from there and i can hear music out of the back speakers for sure, but then i load counterstrike and do the surround sound test and i hear nothing from the speakers, i load musicmatch and i can hear from the rear speakers. THe reason i bought the surround sound was for FPS game improvement... can anyone help me out, why is it not playing when i want it to?

Under games, it doesn't matter. As long as your game supports DirectSound3D or OpenAL, it will support any number of speakers, according to your soundcards configuration.
To test functionality under DirectSound3D, I suggest using Rightmark 3DSound test
The positiong is very clear as long as you select Hardware Acceleration. Also some games need you to select output configuration, although this is against Microsoft's suggestions.

  • 2 ZS Platinum with Logitech 5300e- No sound comes from rear speake

I just bought a new 2 ZS Platinum sound card and I use fairly new Logitech 5300e 5. speakers but no matter what I am playing, no sound comes from the rear speakers. However everythingh sounds fine in the front left, center and front right. As most posts on this board would suggest....yes, all speakers are securely connected and the switch on the back of the subwoofer is set to 5.. Windows control panel is set to 5., and so is everything else that asks. Im pretty sure I installed it correctly because the card shows up and I can hear good sound but only from the front. I read somewhere that I still needed a codec called ac3 so I downloaded it but there is still no sound. I updated the card with the latest driver which looks like was released in 2005. Is there ANY way to get real 5. sound? Do I need to purchase something else, a new codec? Any help will be appreciated. Thank you!

Does the speaker test work in 5. channel mode? If it doesn't then it would like the X-Fi's lost the centre channel.
In that case you can try unplugging your speakers, changing into 2.0 mode plugging them back in and then changing to 5. channel mode and just fiddling about. 'tis a common problem with the X-Fi on a fresh install to lose or merge channels. There's no fix for it but to fiddle with the speaker/THX console settings and to plug and unplug stuff until the X-Fi decides to route stuff properly.

  • 5.1 Surround Sound only outputting from one speaker on macbook

I have connected my old LG LH T360SE home cinema system to my white 13" macbook (late 2007) from the headphone jack via an audio Y cable into the RCA audio input on the back of the home cinema system. Unfortunately when playing movies via Plex, VLC or any other media player the sound only outputs through the front left speaker and sub-woofer. I checked that the other speakers are connected by perfoming a connection test in the product's setup and there is some background noise if you put your ear up against them. The 5 speakers work fine when playing a DVD on the integrated DVD player. Is there any settings on the macbook I need to change to make use of the full 5.1 surround sound?
    Thanks

You'll need to use an optical cable to get 5.1 surround. So you'll also need a little optical->mini-optical converter (which allows you to plug it into the 3.5mm jack).

  • PCI Problem - no output from rear

Hi, I'd be most grateful if anyone can help me.
I have an old Sound Blaster PCI soundcard. Currently I have a set of 2.0 speakers hooked up from the Line Out (green) jack and have no problems with them.
I would like to run a second set of speakers from the Rear Out (black) jack to another room. But when I try to connect any powered speakers (even switching the existing line out speakers to the rear out) to the rear out there is no output whatsoever. The documentation that came with the card says that you should be able to run powered speakers from both the line out and rear out.
    Am I missing something obvious?
Once again, thanks for any help in advance.

can you be more specific on what soundcard type you've...
    i mean a old pci one are a lot...and what's old, a month or 6 yrs(3-pole or 4-pole on out2&3)...
    more info needed of type.
p.s. 2nd &3th channels are with creative drivers effect channels , clear sound (or 2/0) is only on the line out. the 2 & 3 do have effects depending on setup(eax/dolby/ etc. etc.) and so it's not nice to listen to only 2nd(or 3th) channel when you're listen to music/movie. you can better take the rec out of the amplifier that's connected to the soundcard.
    so something like:
soundcard lineout - linesignalwire - amplifier tape/in - amplifier tape/out - linesignalwire - amplifier tape/in - etc. etc..(loop amps by their ins & outs like tape/cassette -deck connections, see manual amps for setting switches correctly(LOL hardwareconfiguration of hifi). then you got in every room 2/0 stereo of your lineout.Message Edited by www_96KHz_tk on 05-3-2005 02:59 AM

  • Inaudible sound from rear speak

    hi,
i recently brought a soundblaster li've 24 bit sound card , and creative inspire 5. speakers. When i try to play dvds on powerdvd with prologic on, on power dvd software i can hardly hear any sound at all from my rear speakers. And also please explain what is the difference between software decoder prologic on power dvd and the hardware decoder ddts-00. will the surround quality be better on the ddts 00 decoder

NOOOO, wait. If you enable CMSS, you will get the same STEREO signal to all speakers. You will not get 5.. CMSS is for a 2 channel stereo signal to be sent to all speakers. Its mainly for music and not 5. DVDs.
EG: If you have a Divx movie which is 2 channel then you can turn on CMSS to get all speakers working, but this is not 5..
What you need to do is dissable CMSS.
Make sure everything is set to 5. also in windows control panel.
Now with WMP 0 you then need to go into the options for sound and also set it up to use 6 channels. This is 5..
You can also get WIN DVD as it will give you 5.
The best way to know what is going on is do this.
Play a movie with CMSS on, like you have it.
Now while playing the movie open up media CC. and then go to Surround mixer. Now go to advance and play with the sliders for all speakers. Lower the centre one to Zero. You will still hear vocals, This is not right. Lower the front and centre speakers and you will still hear all sound FX. This is not 5. my freind. Try it for your self and then you will see what I mean..

  • After Windows XP clean re-load and SB Live installation, getting no sound from rear speake

I had to re-load my Sound Blaster Li've! Value but now I don't have any sound from my rear speakers. I have set the SB settings for four speakers and my Sound and Audio setting is for Quadraphonic. I registered for auto SB updates but the system could not find any updates for my installation.
    Thanks

  • Please help.. after May Windows Updates no sound from rear speake

Hello!?My rear channels stopped working, I am thinking it might have happened because of the recent windows update. I have Audigy2 ZS Platinum Card and Logitech 5. speakers. Please help, I tried drivers from CD and the one on the website, no luck

I doubt if the recent windows updates has anything to do with your rear speakers. I have all the recent updates and my speakers are working fine. you could go the Add/Remove program and uninstall the updates. Then you would know for sure if that caused the problem.

  • Less sound output from inbuilt speaker

seems to be less sound output is coming from inbuilt speakers. i don't know how to verify whether this is the maximum sound capacity of inbuilt speakers
    My Product Details:
Product Name: HP pavilion dv6 Notebook PC
    Product Number: QJ912AV#ABA
OS Installed: Windows 7 64 bit

How long have you been without sound?  When did you first notice it?  Do you remember if you installed any updates or programs just before it happened?  I guess we could consider taking off the case and start checking for lose connections or blown speakers. I do think you should maybe try to reinstall the HP sound drivers one more time and make sure no other sound software is installed in add/remove software from your control panel.

  • Audigy 2 ZS and Logitech Z-680 problems, nothing coming from rear speake

I've been trying everything to get sound out of these rear speakers but I'm having zero luck. I've installed the drivers I don't even know how many times. The speakers work fine when hooked up to my dvd player so I know the wiring is fine. However everytime I run these tests provided on the install, I get "front left... front center... front right..." and then nothing afterwards. Even though I should be getting "rear right... rear left". What can I do to get these speakers working?!
by the way.. while I'm at it. The digital out on this card, am I able to hook that up to the z-680 console in some way? I have it conneced via 6 ch direct right now.

Well I actually got it working last night, my analog connection that is. The weird thing is this: I took the green and black wires, connected to my 680 console and audigy 2, and switched them. As in, the green was in the front speakers minijack and the black was in the rear minijack, and I put the green in the black's connection and vice versa. Suddenly Everything works fine. I don't understand how that could possibly work but whatever.
Now since this is working, should I even bother with a coax connection? During my extensi've reading yesterday, it seemed like coax was only good for dvds and not games. Seeing as how I have a seperate dvd player for all my movies, is it even worth it to open that RCA cable I bought?

  • No sound from rear speake

ok, im using an audigy 2zs, previously all my speakers have been working fine however recently the rear speakers have stopped working. i have diaged the speakers they are working fine, i have uninstalled and reinstalled the creai've drivers and updated them. Also i noticed that my rear speakers wasnt producing any sound after using win dvd 6.
i have looked through the discussion forum and knowledge base but with no solution. judging by other users problems with loss of sound to rear speakers this seems to be a serious problem to which creative has no solution. anyway any help would be much appreciated. thanx.

Not sure if this help but have you try enabling CMSS in eax console?
