Losing Photos From Iphoto Application

Recently Since my last iphoto update I noticed that I lost all my photos from the Library. I did a search for .jpg's and fround them and restored them to a new Library. Only now they are just thumbnail quality. I store them on an external hard drive 500GB Western Digital. The other day I noticed that many where missing again from the library (Several Thousand). I did a search and it tells me they are in the originals file folder. When I move them the the main Library recent photo folder it wont let me and says it already there.
A suggestions to correct and have all my photo viewable in the main photos folder?

You have corrupted your library - if you want to use iPhoto you must quit making changes to the iPhoto library via any method except using the iPhoto program - do not ever modify your library in any way using the finder or other programs
For now I am not clear where you stand but lets find out
Quit iPhoto and go to your pictures folder and right click (Control click) on the iPhoto library and use the show package contents command - open the originals folder and look (do not touch) at the contents of the originals folder - especially their sizes. If your original photos are there in their original sizes you are in good shape and we can create a new library with them - if they are not you are in trouble and by mucking around with your iPhoto library you have lost you photos.
If your original photos are there then drag the iPhoto library to the desktop and launch iPhoto and create a new library and drag each folder from the originals folder to the iPhoto icon in the DOCK - this will import your photos to the new library

iphoto 9.5 won't import photos from iPhoto 7.5. Library will not update using the iPhoto library upgrader application. Repeatedly says it can't locate photos even when told to cancel. I think the photos in question are in Nikon RAW format.

iPhoto 9.5 immediately tries to "upgrade" my library using the upgrader.
iPhoto 9.5 asks you to run the upgrader to prepare the library for 9.5. It then will update the library to its format.
You need to do the following:
1 - go to your Applications/Utilities folder and double click on the iPhoto Library Upgrader 1.1 application.
2 - select Choose Library, navigate to your iPhoto library, select it and let the upgrader do its thing.
3 - launch iPhoto 9.5 to open and finish the conversion of the library.

Look for them on your old computer, when found copy the files to a USB drive and move them to the new computer.

iPhoto Menu -> Preferences -> Accounts ->
Delete and recreate your email settings.
Alternatively, use Apple's Mail for the job. It has Templates too - and more of them.

Because Apple has dropped "Aperture" and is switching users away from "iPhoto" to a new photo application called "Photo" so that they are more fully integrated with the Yosemite 10 and the iOS 8.3 going forward there are some instructions how to import photos into Lightroom without losing to much metadata or other information. Go under Lightroom help and follow he instructions.

How to export photos from iPhoto to memory card SanDisk

I am trying to move photos from iPhoto to a flash drive. In the flash drive I have a SanDisk memory card in a Kodak 50-IN-1 Card reader and I put it into the drive. I have tried to open iphoto click on the photo, go to file click on export and it. The photo shows up in the flash drive port, I can click on it and see it but when I take the disk and try to re-upload the disk the photo will not show up on iphoto nor will it show up in the camera.
The second way I tried was to create a folder, copy to the folder and the drag folder to the device. I again ended up with the same results.
Why will it show up in the device when I click on the device but the photo will no show up in iphoto or when I put the disk into the camera?

Most cameras expect photos to be in specific folder(s) on the card and to have file names in specific formats. My Canon G12, for example, uses a structure like this:
CANON_DC

............IMG_0007.JPG

(My camera is set to create a new folder every month, but there are other options. One of my previous cameras went to a new folder every hundred photos.)
Examine a card formatted by your camera with some pictures taken by your camera to discover what sort of file structure and filenames your camera creates, then mimic that.
On the re-import side, iPhoto and Image Capture know about the common file structures and filenames, so it recognizes them when it sees them. Dropping long, random names in the top level of the card as illustrated in the video is likely only to work when you view the card on another system with a general file structure with an application that makes full use of it (like Finder or Windows Explorer).

Adding photos from iphoto to ipod nano 6th generation

I want to take photos from iphoto (mac os x 10.6.8) and put them on my ipod nano 6th generation. I can't find anything on itunes that mentions photos and my ipod doesn't show up in iphoto or applications.

Thanks. I followed through with those instructions. Now when I go to sync, I don't want everybody else's music to show up on my ipod. How do I sync? And if I check sync only checked songs, will it sync ALL checked songs? We have alot of songs, but I don't want all of them. How can I manually sync?

I have read and reread the ipad manual and under importing photos and videos - this is all it says,
"To transfer the photos to your computer, connect iPad to your computer and import the images with a photo application such as iPhoto or Adobe Elements."
There are no explicite instructions on how to get the photos from iPhoto onto my iPad. There is nothing in iPhoto either.

Another way. You can use a USB flash drive & the camera connection kit.
Plug the USB flash drive into your computer & create a new folder titled DCIM. Then put your movie/photo files into the folder. The files must have a filename with exactly 8 characters long (no spaces) plus the file extension (i.e., my-movie.mov; DSCN0164.jpg).
Now plug the flash drive into the iPad using the camera connection kit. Open the Photos app, the movie/photo files should appear & you can import. (You can not export using the camera connection kit.)

Why can't I import photos from iPhoto to Photoshop Elements 6?

I've got Photoshop Elements 6 on my iMac desktop running OS X 10.7.4. When I click on File>Open in PE6, my iMac Finder opens. I then select Photos and all my iPhoto and Photo Booth files open. But I cannot click on (well, I can click on them but nothing happens) any photo to pull it into PE6. It seems a simple operation, but apparently not for me! Any help getting this application to work would be sincerely appreciated! Thank you.

You can't do it that way. The iphoto library is for iphoto's own use, and poking at from outside iphoto is the fastest way to corrupt it and lose all your photos. You have two choices:
1. Set PSE as your external editor for iphoto and open all images from iphoto, not by using File>Open.
2. Export the photos from iphoto, open the copies and save them, then reimport the edited photos as new files.

How to import photos from iPhoto Library to Adobe Photoshop Elements 10 Editor?

I can't use Adobe Photoshop Elements 10 Editor to edit photos from iPhoto Library. If I choose File, Open, and then select 'iPhoto Library', error message is "could not complete your request because of a program error."

You can't do it that way. Any attempt to poke around in the iphoto library from outside iphoto is very likely to damage the library and cause you to lose your photos, so PSE won't let you. You have two choices:
1. Set PSE as your external editor, send the photos from iphoto, and save them without changing the name or format (you may need to adjust the editor prefs>Saving Files>On First Save to let you do this). Then iphoto will remember your original and the last edited version.
Be sure to choose this file in Applications>Adobe Photoshop Elements 10>Support files as your external editor, not the one at the top level of the PSE 10 folder in Applications:
2. Export the photos from iphoto, use File>Open in the PSE editor to open the images and then save them with whatever changes to name or format you like, and reimport the saved images to iphoto as new files. This way you can save as many versions as you like.

I can not delete photos from iphoto trash can, I get a notice that they are locked.
these photos were deleted along time ago from the hard drive.

Try the following:download and run BatChmod on the iPhoto Library folder with the settings shown here, putting your administrator login name in the owner section and Staff in the group section. You can either type in the path to the folder or just drag the folder into that field. Then try emptying the trash bin again.
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier) database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 6 and 7 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. Just put the application in the Dock and click on it whenever you want to backup the dB file. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.
Note: There's now an Automator backup application for iPhoto 5 that will work with Tiger or Leopard.

What ISP(Internet Service Provider) are you using for e-mail?On my AOL e-mail window,there's a small camera icon in the middle bar,if I click on that it has a drop down about insert picture,insert background picture,insert hyperlink,and whatever else.Look for that.If you have something similar,try it.I would suggest doing it without any message first to see what shows up.Delete any attempts you don't care for.I found out if I clicked on the Background one,you couldn't read the message.Mine then shows a mini version of Finder window,navigate to the location of the photo you want.The suggestion of dragging photos to desktop first from open iPhoto window is excellent,the picture icons in my finder are far too small to see.The e-mail Application you use should also give you the option to resize for e-mail.Sends faster.

Editing a photo from iPhoto in Photoshop elements 9

I can no longer take a photo from iPhoto & edit it in Photoshop Elements 9. When I opened Photoshop Elements independently, it went to Revel, and for the past 12 hours, the bottom scroll says "Gathering User Information." There's no more information to gather! Help! Ann

Stop using the welcome screen. Go into the Applications folder and make a dock icon for the actual editor file, which is this one:
and be sure that is the one you choose as your external editor in iphoto, too, not the one below it in the list.
