Losing preferences on CC update

I've updated InDesign CC three times now and each time I lose my modified preferences. Is this a bug? Is there a fix on the way?
Note that I do not lose my saved Workspace/panel locations. Just losing the modified preferences in the InDesign menu (Mac).

Looks like a permissions problem on the preferences folder. Does this happen everytime you quit InDesign and relaunch? If so, then try this:
1) Quit InDesign if running.
2) Navigate to Users/username/Library/Preferences/
3) Command+left-click on Adobe InDesign folder and select Get Info.
4) Expand the Sharing and Permissions panel and click on the lock icon on the bottom right to add your account and provide Read & Write access to your current account and
5) Add Administrator and Administrators to this panel and provide Read & Write access privileges.
6) Click on the Gear icon and click on  Apply to enclosed items.
7) Click on the Lock icon back and close the Get info window.
8) Relaunch InDesign and make changes in the preferences and restart InDesign again to check.

  • Premiere Elements 7: losing preferences randomly

Once in a while (every ten times starting PrEl I guess) Premiere is losing my preferences, window settings etc. ("do not show again" messages appear, preference options are set to default ...).
It happened when PrEl crashes, but only sometimes. Now it happened when I normally closed PrEl yesterday and opened it today.
It annoys me. I now did a backup of the user folder (c:\Documents and Settings\[username]\Application Data\Adobe\Premiere Elements\7.0), to restore it more faster. But what can be the reasons? (Couldn't find anything in the forum except for network drive/redirections problems: http://forums.adobe.com/message/2728602#2728602).

8GB free disk space is wholly inadequate (you do mean disk space and not RAM?). You need a minimum of 30GB defragmented space to reliably create a PRE output. If your 8GB is 1/3rd of total space then your total hard-disk is only 24GB which suggests a pretty old PC. I think you must provide much more information about your PC and the video clips (see the last bullet following):
    Some basics:
    Install all Windows updates
Install latest version of QuickTime (v7.6.7 at time of writing)
Install most recent graphics and sound drivers from the manufacturers web sites
    Run Disk Cleanup
Run Defragmenter (it will not have a noticeable effect on drive life).

  • Unable to change preferences after Security Update 2006-007 10.3.9 ppc

Problem: System Preferences are locked and cannot be unlocked. And Software Update, and Disk Utility would launch but not work following installation of the S.U. 2006-007 .
Solution Steps: 1) Turn off airport card, 2) Connect using ethernet, 3) restart, 4) download S.U. 2006-007 and reinstall. 4) restart 5) disconnect ethernet and turn airport card on.
I believe these steps will work. I did alot of other stuff before trying this and it seems to be working. If you really want to know all of what I tried then read on. Otherwise I would just try the above.
The key seems to be that the airport card is turned off and you are connected to the internet via ethernet so you can download and install the file.
    THE LONG STORY:
After using software update to install S.U. 2006-007
I was restarting and it to me to a black BSD login screen. I was not sure of the user name and password it was asking for so I ended up restarting by holding in the power button.
I reset the PRam and was able to get it to load but it listed the user at the top of the screen as UNKNOWN and would not let me see my alternate logins. I restarted again an this time it came up with my name.
Fearing problems I went to the disk utilities to check the permissions. It opened the disk utilities and as it was gathering information it suddenly quit disk utilities without any warnings.
I restarted in single user mode and used /sbin/fsck -fy twice and it found no problems and I restarted. It would still not let me do the disk utilities with the same results as above.
I went into my system preferences and my user settings were marked as locked and would not unlock even though I was logged in as the admin user.
I restarted and reset the power managment. Again I could not change the acounts preferences because it would not let me unlock them. My time was also messed up now and it would not let me unlock them.
I tried changing the passwords using the install disk and that did not work.
I also tried using disk utilities from the install disk. It checked the disk fine and found no problems but gave an error while trying to check the permissions.
I restarted and tried to software update the latest itunes and it would not let me install.
I am not sure why but I tried turning off my airport card and restarting. I was now able to change my preferences and do a disk utilities permissions repair {no problems found}.
I turned my airport card back on and once again my preferences were locked and so I turned the card off and the preferences stayed locked. I restarted several times playing with this and it appears that every time the airport card is turned on it locks the preferences and must be restarted with it off to allow access.
I tried logging in as a new user and had the same results.
I finally turned off the card and connected via ethernet and it had no problems unless the airport card was turned on. I redownloaded the S.U. 2006-007 and reinstalled it and it appears to work fine.
I was never connected wih the airport card and ethernet at the same time.

In the "never fails" category . . . went back onto the machine and signed on under a different account. Immediately got the the familiar Keychain dialog asking for permission for AirPort, responded yes, and the base station was suddenly visible to this account. Logged off, back in under the original account, got the same Keychain request (which had NEVER appeared before in 5 or 6 different logins) and was off and running again.

  • How do I transfer contacts from 3GS (4.3.5) to 5S (7.0.4) without losing them in 3GS update to 6.1.3?

I bought a new iPhone 5S (7.0.4) and have backed up all other data from my iPhone 3GS (4.3.5) to my iTunes (I had to update iTunes to the latest version) in hopes to then transfer that data to the 5S.  For whatever reason, it doesn't appear that any of my 3GS contacts were backed up to my iTunes and I know for sure they didn't get restored to the 5S since they aren't there like my photos and apps.
I read somewhere that I would need to uprgade the iOS on my 3GS from 4.3.5 to 6.1.3 and then make the 3GS compatible with iCloud and then transfer the contacts via iCloud from the 3GS to my new 5S.  I started this process (updating my 3GS to 6.1.3) and even though it said I would lose all my media data but that I would be able to preserve my contacts when asked during the update process.  The update process completed and then I attepmted to restore my data on my 3GS.  This process started but it could not finsih beachse "an error had occured (-1)" and the process was not completed.
I then turned on my 3GS and it is now asking me if I want to make it my new iphone, restore from the iCloud, or restore from iTunes back-up.  I have no idea what to do and am supper worried now about losing my contacts.
What do I do to get my contacts!?!?!

Backing up saves your settings and other stuff on core apps but it  doesnt save your appdata(that's is the main thing i am looking for) so it wont restore that when i restore it  from the backup i create and this article too says it http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4972 so i would like too know how do i keep my data stored in apps from the appstore if there is any way to keep the data. Thanks anyway. If anyone else knows a way then please help as i accidentally clicked on this solved my question. :|

  • Losing Keychains from iPhoto Update

Since the iPhoto update yesterday, when I attempt to click on Mobile Me to upload a gallery, I get prompted to keep my current keychains or update them (nothing new). However, when I click to update them (which I usually do), I lose them ALL and I can no longer access any secure sites, including Mobile Me.
My iMac basically becomes non-functional as far as internet/email/networking/etc. Although, if I re-start my computer, my keychains return but I am once again prompted in iPhoto to update them. If I say no, it will keep asking me.
    Help???

    Andrew:
First quit iPhoto, delete the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, that resides in your User/Library/Preferences folder, launch iPhoto and try again. If that doesn't jump start your MMe access give the following a try:

After waiting a day for the rolling restore to happen, I called AppleCare because Apple had sent an email saying my service was back, and it wasn't. I still could send and not receive using Mail.
Here is what fixed it. Go to MobileMe (terrible name) in System Preferences, log out. Then enter a garbage name and password and try to log in. This apparently clears the MobileMe preferences. Then enter your real UserName and PassWord. For me this was lights on.
I am left wondering how long ago I could have had email had I known this preference reset scheme.
Although it's for a Mail problem it will let you flush out the MobileMe preferences and enter your user name and password for a fresh start. See if that will help.
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier) database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 6 and 7 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. Just put the application in the Dock and click on it whenever you want to backup the dB file. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.
Note: There's now an Automator backup application for iPhoto 5 that will work with Tiger or Leopard.

  • Nervous about losing personal data when updating Xperia X10 to 3.0

I want to download 3.0.1.6.0.75  to my Xperia X10 that currently has 2.1.1.A.0.6 but I am worried about losing my personal data. I have already used Backup and Restore to create a backup of my data but when I go to PC Companion on my home computer, it tells me
Personal data such as contacts, messages.... saved in the phone memory will be overwritten..."
Could you please give me ALL the steps I need to do to ensure I do not lose my personal data when updating to 3.0.? The last time I updated my phone about 5 months ago there were good step by step instructions to follow but now I cannot find them on your website.
    thank you,

  • Uninstalling Logitech Control Center 3.2 without losing preferences

I installed the latest; buggy version of LCC 3.2 for the mac. I'm on Snow Leopard. I had a similar situation on another mac; where I downgraded to 3.1 but _lost ALL my preferences. I tried to retrieve them using Time machine; but could still not make its data return and had to redo all my settings. Very time consuming. If I downgrade to LCC 3.1; how can I avoid losing my pref files for at least 100 apps...?
    thanks

you should be able to duplicate your preferences folder and save the duplicate as a backup. The folder is at
    /Users/your account/Library/Preferences
Not sure why this wouldn't work with Time machine.
    Hope this helps.

  • N95 losing 'settings' after FW update

    Hi
I lost some data after updating FW recently. The lost data includes:
    Saved GPS locations.
    Call log
    Active standby apps settings
    and so on.
Could I have saved these settings somehow when I backed up/sync with the PC or do I have to accept the loss when I upgrade FW?
    Thanks for your help.

I'm afraid you have to accept losing settings and data with any upgrade the firmware. Not sure you could save the settings in any way other than perhaps making a note (on paper) of what your settings are and which active standby app's you prefer. I may be wrong but I've never been able to do so.

  • ITunes changes preferences at each update

If I set a preference, I expect that preference to remain across updates. iTunes does not do this for at least one preference setting - the preference to make iTunes the default player for all audio files. I change this preference to NOT let iTunes be the default audio file player. At each update, iTunes changes the default action to make iTunes be the default player. If I set a preference, it should remain set.

    OS 10.2.1.3247
I've done 2 software upgrades since getting the phone in December, none of my settings were ever changed.

  • Changed my apple id, now my icloud preferences won't update.

I am prompted for my password, but the ID is incorrect. Not sure how to change my ID in icloud now.

To change the ID at system preferences > iCloud, you will need to sign out and then enter the correct ID.

  • "Losing" files after iTunes update

I have over 130Gb of tunes I've stored on two separate systems, one at home, the other at work. In both cases, whenever I've performed a software update I "lose" files. Most times it's only a few random files. But this last update (7.6) deleted hundreds of files, about 2.5Gb worth, and different files were deleted on each system. Fortunately both systems were backed-up. Has anybody been experiencing this problem? At this point, it is not worth all the extra work of restoring files after an up-grade of dubious utility.

Just a little bit more information and it may help someone sort out your problem.
Do you Manually manage your music or Auto Sync?
Do you keep your music on your computer or do you remove it?
Some itunes updates make changes to music files and if this occurs then it will want to
update files on your iPod and if they are not stored on your computer then generally it will
take them off the iPod. iTunes is for storing your Library and the iPod is for enjoying it.
I don't mean to assume that you don't already know this but some choose to use the iPod for
storage and then run into trouble down the road. Apple assumes we keep our music in our
    Library at all times.
I am only a user and prone to error.

  • Why doI keep losing firefox after I update?

Every time I update Firefox I keep getting a message telling me" I am running an old version and need to update". After Firefox loads, the rest of the info doesn't come up, like,"click run", only the"click save" comes up. So, I would guess it isn't completing the update. Why is this happening? I'm still running the old version.

Check that you do not run Firefox in compatibility mode or with a reduced screen resolution.
You can check that in the "Compatibility" tab in the Properties via the right-click context menu of the Firefox desktop shortcut.
Make sure that all items are deselected in the "Compatibility" tab of the Properties window.

  • MM losing preferences

Hey all, not a huge deal overall but this seems to be happening more often than ever. Have got the mighty mouse scroll ball 'click' set for Expose, and side buttons for 'Dashboard' . Both preferences seem to be reset back to default every now and again, I cannot pinpoint my previous actions to cause this but can confirm this does not occur if I do a restart. I do undertake the usual repair permissions but this has only begun a few months ago and has probably occured 4-6 times. Setting the prefs within preferences will probably keep me going again for the next few weeks but then will be at the same default point. Btw, nothing else seems to be affected. What's the next step?
    Cheers All

    Hi argento,
You can try a simple test. create another account, log into that account and see if mouse does the same thing. Since it seems sporadic, it may be hard to catch, but if the mouse does NOT exhibit same issues, then it might be safe to assume a corrupt mouse plist which is located here: User > Library > Preferences... com.apple.driver.AppleHIDMouse.plist is the name of file. You can always drag the file to desktop, your Mac will generate a new one and you can see if that helps. Then just trash the plist file or drag back into preferences...

my device is ipad air 16gb 4G . on ios 7 i can use hotspot personal , but when i update ios 8 , i can't find hotspot personal under cellular in settings .
somebody has problem like this ??????

Yes, an iPhone can provide a WiFi connection to which you can connect and use the carrier's data network - if your carrier supports it. Some do not and others charge extra for the feature.
Also, one major hardware difference you may not be aware of is that WiFi-only iPads do not have GPS capability. If that is something you will every need, opt for the LTE model that includes it.
