Losing quality in my images during editing

Im using premiere elements 12 its my first time using any adobe editing software. I bought it because I was losing quality in my images and video while making videos on my basic movie maker that came with my laptop. I spent over 100 dollars on elements and im getting the same results. do I need to tweek my project settings? I want to upload this video online will it go back to normal once uploaded? any tips would be appreciated!

You don't say if you are working on a high-def or a standard def (DVD) project, but do remember that Premiere Elements is a video editor, not a slideshow creator. So anything you put into it is going to come out at video resolution -- 720x480 pixels for standard def or DVD video or 1920x1080 for high-def or BluRay video. That's likely a big step down from your original photo resolution, since even 5 or 10 megapixel camera is shooting many times that resolution.
This article explains in greater detail the difference between photo and video resolution.
http://forums.adobe.com/thread/1187937?tstart=0
Where do you plan to display your slideshow? If on a TV, Premiere Elements' resolution is just fine. (Assuming you've got a BluRay workflow for your HDTV, etc.)
If you're looking for a higher resolution slideshow creator for, say, display on your computer, you may want to consider a dedicated slideshow creator like Pro Show Gold.

  • Aperture corrupting images during editing

    Hello,
    Starting a few days ago, aperture started corrupting images during editing.  This was normally at the time of my fist cut, going through doing simple straighten and croping.  Sometimes it would happen when doing a small lighten or darken of the exposure.  I purchased a new MacBook Pro about a month ago but this only started happening this week.  No OS or Aperture upgrades this week.  I did have a crash earlier this week and after the crash my Spotlight re-indexed my computer.  I updated QuickSilver this week and Awaken.  I tried quiting both QS and Awaken but problem still happens.  The real scary thing is I usally have to go back and re-import the raw CR2 image to fix the problem, doing an update from master or resetting all adjustments does not fix the problem.  Below is an example of an image with the problem.  This is a Version Export of a corrupted image, as you can see the cor  Can I get any help?

    Ernie Stamper:
    The Aperture Libraries are on the local drive.  I do have an external Firewire drive I can use to test your theory but since I recently replaced the whole laptop at the Apple store so I am thinking it is not hardware related but one of three things: an Aperture bug, my configuration, or memory (see more on memory below).
    leonieDF:
    I don't think it is related to a hardware issue unless it is memory. I took the laptop into the mac store because I was having a hardware issue not discussed in this thread.  The laptop was completely replaced except for the memory since I purchased 8GB of memory after the computer was purchased.  I put the 8GB memory back into the new laptop.  If this is a memory problem it is not showing up in diagnostics.  I am planning on doing two things this weekend.  First thing is putting back in the original apply memory and testing.  If I still get the issue I am going to do a complete uninstall of Aperture and re-install maybe something in my settings/libaries are corrupted.  I am reaching for straws at this point.  I might also try a complete reformat and only install Aperture and test to see if something else installed might be causing this, but I can't think of what it would be.

  • How do I edit a .mov file in iMovie '09 without losing quality?

    Hi!
    Can anyone tell me how to edit .mov files in iMovie '09 without losing quality?
    I have perfectly fine looking screen capture video from iShowU. It's 1024x768, 30 fps, Animation compression codec. It's a .mov file that looks great played in the QuickTime player. I can't even tell it's a movie -- it just looks like the screen I captured.
    Now, I bring it into iMovie '09, trim the ends, and Export to QuickTime using no compression and the same fps and size. The output quality is noticeably lower than the input quality, which makes no sense to me because I'm telling the export not to compress (and my Preferences are set to "Import HD video as Full-Original Size".
    I just want to trim the ends off a video -- maybe combine a couple files -- but without wrecking the quality of the originals. That really doesn't sound like it should be all that hard, but so far, it's been impossible.
    Any pointers are greatly appreciated!!

    I've found the answer. On the File/Import/Movies... dialog, uncheck "Optimize Video" even if you have "Full - Original Size" selected. You don't want any optimizations done, even at original size. Then make sure you are exporting at precisely the same size as the original file, which means that under the Export to Quicktime/Options/Video Size dialog you do NOT want to check "Preserve aspect ratio using:" Just use "Custom" size and set your size to exactly what "Get Info" tells you when you view the file in the Finder.
    Make sure that Video/Settings is set to Compression Type: None, and that you have the Frame Rate exactly what your original was.
    Hope this helps someone.

  • How to proper resize images and videos at runtime without losing quality?

    Hi guys. I need a bit of help here.
    I've built a flash site in which i want to resize a movie to the stage. I do it by keeping the proportion, thus i only resize the width and then i resize the height acordingly to the new width but keeping the proportion.
    The problem is that my film still looks "pixeled".
    I found a website on which the stage resizes dinamically with the movie and the background images without either of them losing quality. Till now i knew that resizing images or videos in flash at authoring or runtime produces pixeled results.
    This is the website: http://kampanjeweb.apt.no/jotun/romforrom/. Can someone tell me how do they do it without losing quality? just make the browser windowed and resize the margins to see the effect.
    Thanks.

    Hello, Venian.
    About the video, you could try setting the flash.media.Video's smoothing property to TRUE. This should keep a quality, but you can do nothing if the video has a poor quality. You need a great video.
    About the images, you you need to redraw the image each time you resize it. To achieve it, use a combination of Bitmap, BitmapData and Matrix classes. Any doubt, just call again. Here is a simple example:
    var scale:Number = .5;
    var highQualitySourceImage:Bitmap = ...your image...;
    var scaleMatrix:Matrix = new Matrix();
         scaleMatrix.scale(scale, scale);
    var bitmapData:BitmapData = new BitmapData( scale*highQualitySourceImage.width, scale*highQualitySourceImage.height);
         bitmapData.draw(highQualitySourceImage, scaleMatrix);
    var finalBitmap:Bitmap = new Bitmap(bitmapData);
    addChild( finalBitmap );
    Cheers,
    CaioToOn!

  • Bug:  Can't attach an image to a post during edit

    Edited a post I had just made:
    Opened a couple of blank lines.
    Hit the camera icon
    Hit the [Browse...] button
    Selected the file and had its path appear in the Insert Image dialog field.
    Hit the [Insert Image] button.
    Got this failure:
    I couldn't attach the image to this post either, even though it's an under-200K JPEG saved from Photoshop CS6 at quality 10.  Here's a link that will take you to a copy of the file:
    http://Noel.ProDigitalSoftware.com/temp/CloneAndPatternStamp.jpg
    This is my second attempt to post this.  First time I typed in this post I got this message:
    It's an interesting approach, making it particularly difficult to report bugs.

    Just testing to see if I can insert an image initially in a post with the Advanced Editor...
    Seems to be possible.
    Now an attempt to attach an image while editing, with IE9...
    Hm, that succeeded, at least while editing.  Now an attempt to attach the same image that was giving me trouble before...
    That succeeded interactively as well.  Now to hit [ Update ] to see if they actually show up...

  • How to resize large images without losing quality

    Hello I have an image that I am trying to use as an email. Right now it is 2108 pixels. And for an email it should be 600 px. I created this image in illustrator as vectors and type.
    Whenever I go into image size and i change it to be 600 pixels it gets extremely blurry. I have also tried converting this to a smart object... doesnt work. How do I resize my large image to be smaller without losing quality???

    here is an example sceenshot of the opening dialog (.ai opened directly in Photoshop)
    your illustrator vector should be rastered sharp at 100% actual Pixels in Photoshop
    that is where you want to evaluate sharpness in Photoshop...
    then File> Save for Web & Devices (and drag that saved file icon into an open web browser)
    still no joy, embed your saved image here using the forum's camera icon...

  • How to decrease PDF file size without losing quality of images and vector lines?

    I have several ai files that I saved as PDFs. Now I'm having problem with the size of this combine files. Can some one assist me with the proper way on decreasing file size without losing quality.
    Thank you.

    I am having the same problem with a different file that's in a different format mentioned above. I'm trying to convert a ".srf" file and turn it into a ".pdf." I was successful doing this but my image, once in a .pdf was also pixilated.
    I thought if I convert my ".srf" file to a ".jpeg" first, then bring this newly created ".jpeg" into a ".pdf," I would have more luck. But unfortunately the free download I got on my computer that's supposed to convert any file to any file, CANNOT convert ".srf" files to ANYTHING!
    Does anyone have any ideas? Or any specific programs I should get?
    Thanks!

  • Resize A Image Without Losing Quality

    I have been reading about how to best resize image in PS CS4/CS5.  I've read that you should increase the size of a image in increments and I’ve also read that you should resize using the bicubic smoother setting in PS.
    The image that I would like to resize is 5W x 7H and resolution of 150. I would like to print this image at 30W x 40H on a HP Designjet 5500ps.
    Any recommendation on how I should go about resizing the image without losing quality?

    No matter which method you used, scaling up a photo 5 times is going to look very good.
    There are some software that purports to scale up an image without blurry edges. Not sure how well they work.
    If you can obtain the original image and rescan it at a higher resolution that would work better.
    Or, if the photo can be easily recreated as a vector drawing, then do that with illustrator and print it out large.
    Or if you or someone you know is a great artist, then scale up the photo in photoshop (which would become blurry), then hand correct the edges to make them sharp. This requires drawing ability.

    What is important here is that you know the properties of your source file(s), set the project preset to match the properties of those source files, and then export with settings as close as possible to the original. Often you can do this without noticing quality differences in the export.
    I am understanding and defining your issue as you wanting to maintain the quality of the original imported files in the export. If that is the case, the please supply the following, and I will give you a step by step
    a. What are the properties of your source files (including bitrate). Here I am looking for
    video compression
    audio compression
    frame size
    frame rate
    interlaced or progressive
    pixel aspect ratio
    file extension
    A quick way to get that type of information is knowing the brand/model/settings for the camera that recorded the video.
    2. Based on that information we can set manually a project preset to match those source property.
    3. When we go to export...example Publish+Share/Computer/ and your choice and its preset, we can customize the preset selected
    under the Advanced Button/Video Tab and Audio Tab of that preset in order to try for the best possible match between the properties of the
    original file and the properties of the export.
    But, please let us know if you also need help in trimming the original import at the Timeline level prior to export.
    Your mention of Publish+Share suggest that you are working with Premiere Elements 11, 12, or 13. What is the computer operating system?
    Thanks.

  • How can I resample image without losing quality?

    I have an image which is 1200 x 800 at 72 pixels per inch
    Now it is needed on a webpage so it needs to be small - I am told the image has to be 300 x 200
    I want to maintain the quality.....
    SO......
    I get the original image: thus...
    I then bring up the image resize dialog which shows:
    I change the values so that the image dimensions are changed to 300 x 200 thus:
    1200 changed to 300 - this changed the 800 to 200 for me... pressed OK
    The resultant image is now:
    Looks awful - What am I doing wrong?
    Thank you in advance.
    Terry

    Any time you interpolate an image you will lose some image quality. For you either reduce the details you have for an image or your creating details you don't have for the image. The image you started with had better quality but that image no longer exist you have a new image now.
    The size change and direction has a lot to do with how much the quality change is.  If you throw away a lot of detail the smaller resized image my look very good on a display.  However  you resize a small web image to a 16" x 20" 300dpi print image it will not look good.
    If the image has been sharpened using Bicubic Automatic or bicubic sharper is not a good interpolation method when downsizing for the web. Still there is just so much detail you can retain in 300x200 pixels.

  • I want to crop out a section of my m4v without losing quality

    I have an m4v file, and I import it into imovie.
    Then I say share, and I export it for apple tv as a m4v file.
    Now this came in as a m4v, and it's going out as an m4v, all i did was isolate a scene.
    I would think it should have exactly the same quality, but now suddenly the movement isn't as smooth, and some of the images look pixelated.
    I've tried a bunch of different settings but I've had no luck. Tried it with exporting it to a mov too, nothing works. Been working on this from various angles for 7 days now
    I tried with and without the optimize video setting checked.
    How can I just edit out a section of the movie without losing quality?
    I don't care if I have to buy a program.. I have already bought two and used trial versions on a couple others, including final cut pro nothing has worked for me

    I had to go all the way back to 2005, but I found my answer here:

  • Improve quality of JPEG images

    Hi
    I have an application which saves images in JPEG format after editing (well, many applications does that, but this is only a fraction of what this application does) :-)
    I can't use any other formats due to size restrictions. The problem is Image Editing module of this application has operations like line drawing and text inserting. When I save the image, fine lines (especially texts) are getting blurred.
    Is there any way I can increase the quality of JPEG files saved? I understand that JPEG is not meant for sharp lines and texts but with Photoshop, even fine lines and texts appear good when saved as a high quality JPEG file. Is there any such method in Java by which I can increase the quality of JPEG images?
    Thanks in advance...

    Is there any way I can increase the quality of JPEG files saved? I understand that JPEG is not meant for sharp lines and texts but with Photoshop, even fine lines and texts appear good when saved as a high quality JPEG file. Is there any such method in Java by which I can increase the quality of JPEG images?I JPEG is a non-conservative compression format (you do not get back exactly what you put in, it has "acceptable degredaton"--I talked with the author before it became popular and he explained what JPEG was all about--high compresses resulting in a small size for internet communications over dialup.
    In more recent times I've seen quality factors brought into play with JPEG, but as you have stated, even in Adobe Photoshop under the highest quality, you still have degradation. I've seen some hint and some state that you can get a lossless JPEG, but I've not encountered it yet.
    In any case, if you do find a "lossless JPEG" the size of that file is going to be bigger than you are looking at now. You may consider other file formats--TIFF or there are even more recent files formats that have higher conservative compression algorithms.
