Losing Reader Extended Rights

Dear all,
I have been having some trouble with one of our company travel requisition forms. We basically have a form that the user initially fills in with details and then digitally signs. The form is then sent to the manager who approves the form by digitally signing, and then forwards to the booking department. The booking department then has to fill in some details before finally forwarding to HR for record keeping.
The problem we're having now is that the document is getting stuck at the booking department as all Reader Extended rights have been removed due to 'changes'. Our form is not dynamic, and has no 'field invisible switch' or 'read only change' based on user input. I cannot source a logical solution...Does anybody have any ideas?
Thank you in advance.
Regards,
Will

You need to control all software; no non-Adobe software can be used because people "prefer it" if you want Reader enabling to stick. Assuming that isn't the problem...
Bear in mind there are three ways that the Reader enabling could be lost:
* something that the person does during their processing
* something else that happens to the file on their computer
* something that happens in transit
For troubleshooting, I would walk round with a file to various points. Collect copies of this file
- as it arrives at each point
- as it leaves each point
using a memory stick (don't email).
Clearly, what arrives should be byte-for-byte identical with what leaves. You can also check if what is saved by the manager is EXACTLY what arrives at bookings. You can test reader enabling file by file to see where it disappears.
Of course, the simplest solution, and Adobe's preferred solution, is simply to buy Acrobat for everyone!

  • Static PDFs loosing reader extended rights after saving

    Hi,
    Technical information:
LiveCycle 7.0 (which came with Acrobat Professional)
    ARES 7.0
    Reader 7.0.0, 7.0.1 and 7.0.2
    Windows 2000
PDF Static file type (as we are not dynamically adding/removing document objects)
    Scenario:
PDF contains javascript to change the background and border colour of form fields (e.g. node.fillColor = '255,255,170' changed to '192,192,192') to denote enabled/disabled fields.
PDFs are reader extended, so, user should be able to enter and save data on the documents multiple times.
    Problem:
Reader extension rights of PDFs were lost. For example, in Reader, open document, update/enter data, save, and close. Do this multiple times and make sure one of the form fields background colour changes. When the document is re-opened its reader extension privileges are lost and user is no longer able to update/enter data on the document.
This worked with our pilot forms (using AcroForm and ARES 6.0)
    ADOBE Explanation:
The underlying XFA document is changed when the form field's background property was changed, hence, it is no longer a static form and its reader extended rights has changed.
    Resolution:
PDF's file type changed from Static to Dynamic. Some logically driven functions will have to be changed/duplicated (e.g. calling enabling/disabling function(s) from the documents' docReady event).
Have to use Reader 7.0.2 to be able to open, update, save, and close document multiple times without loosing reader extended rights.
    Hope this helps others

Is there any limitation when you apply reader extension rights to the Dynamic PDF form
FOr static forms , I was able to submit the form in XDP format with PDF embedded in it.
THe same thing is not working for Dynamic PDF forms

  • Reader extended rights in interactive PDF not available on some computers

I created multiple interactive forms using Adobe Acrobat Pro X. Three of them seem to work fine, but the fourth is giving trouble. When opening the document, some people get the following message (it's translated from Dutch, so in English it might be slightly different):
"In this document Reader Extended rights for Adobe Reader are activated. The document is changed since it was created and the reader extended rights are not available anymore. Contact the author for the original version of the document."
I have Adobe Acrobat, so I tried to open the document on a different laptop with Adobe Reader 11.0.0 and Windows 8. I got the previous mentioned message, but other people opening the document with Adobe Reader 11.0.0. and Windows 8 don't. The problem is not the version of Adobe Reader or the Operating system, as not everyone with Reader 11 or Windows 8 has this problem. Furthermore, this problem does not exist for three of the four documents.
I tried deleting recreating the form and saving it again with 'Reader extended rights'. It keeps giving the same error. Why is this one document giving problems for only some of the users? Can anyone please help me?

OK, now my brain is really scrambled.  I can rule out the problem of it being too old a version of reader, and probably a third party reader, because I checked on an older system we have here at work, and it has Adobe Reader 9 installed, and for some reason that is the only computer where the buttons do not appear.  I can not figure out what would make that system so different from the rest to make that happen.  Any one have any other ideas?
    thanks again

  • Losing Reader Extension Rights After Saving

    Hi,
I have a form I have had extensions enabled. When a user opens the doc with Reader 7 for a start it works fine, they can fill in the fields and save the form. However, when they come back later to make more changes to the form (after saving and closing it once) they receive this message:
"This document contained certain rights to enable special features in Adobe Reader. The document has been changed since it was created and these rights are no longer valid. Please contact the author for the original version of this document."
At first I thought this must just be the way its supposed to work, but then I downloaded a sample enabled PDF from Adobe. I was able to open the sample, make changes, save it, and reopen it and make more changes and save again. I created another test form with a couple of fields and enabled it and it worked fine too (so its not my copy of Extensions software).
Does anybody have any idea why this is happening to my form, or experienced the problem? It does use a fair bit of java script to automate filling, but I don't see how that could hurt it.
    Thanks in advance,
    David

I'm also getting this error with a certain pdf that I was provided. However it only appears on some computers and not others. I haven't been able to determine why some and not others. It's not reader version because I've had it happen with reader version 7, then upgraded to 8.22 and it still happens. I've uninstalled and reinstalled a bunch of times. I also tried installing acrobat 8 standard and opened the file and entered info into the forms successfully with acrobat 8 standard. But when I open the file with reader 8 on the same computer, I get the error.
However on some other computers I can open the pdf with reader 8.13 through 8.22 and I don't get the error and I can enter text into the forms just fine.
I'm unable to edit the pdf with acrobat because it is locked by password security.
Any help? Any info you'd like me to provide? Thanks!
    Somethings to note:
All of the computers here have their time synced to a server so they should all be the same timezone.
Some of them are running XP SP2 and and some SP3

Hi <br /><br />I think I am experiencing with similar issue , I am trying to do dynamic form filling using java. • Losing extended rights in Reader 9

I use Acrobat 9 pro to extend rights to Reader 8/9 users to add comments etc. in PDF documents, including forms. I have recently noticed a rise in the number of users who have lost the right to edit documents after saving a couple of times. Not all can have used Acrobat to save by accident, nor are they all saving copies of the original. The same documents can be edited and saved repeatedly on other Reader 9 installations. The only thing I can think of is that I have performed a registry edit on some installations in order to overcome the bugs in the loupe, typewriter and / or pan tools (cAV, set large numbers to 0) although they seemed alright at the time. Any thoughts welcome.

    Hi Niall,
    Thanks for the reply.
But both my ADS (Adobe document service) server and my development / test environment are in same location thus same time Zone.
Also how does this imapct the form.
    Lets say I created version 0001 @ 1:00 PM
    Version 0002 is created @ 1:05 PM
I opened v 0002 in edit mode @ 1:30 PM at all times since I am in same environment this shouldn't hamper the process unless I opened the 0002 version in edit @ 1:30 Pm and if this publication from the server had a turnaround time of 2 minutes then by the time i see the form its 1:32 PM.
    Can this be the reason...?
    Thanks & Regards,
    Sai

  • Extended Rights not working in Reader X - resetting form

    Hi,
To make the problem clear i will put it in steps
    1. I have a form created in LiveCycle Designer.
    2. I save it in two ways: as a static and dynamic file pdf. (to test both options)
    3. I reopen it in Adobe Acrobat
    4. Save it as a copy with extended rights -> enabling other  functions.
    5. Reopen it in Reader - fill it with data and save it as two files - one as a copy of original document and 2nd as the same file. (to test both options)
    6. I reopen it in Reader and the data is not there - the form is empty.
    7. Funny thing is when i open it in Photoshop the data is there. When i open it in Ilustrator it is not.
The form is simple, just 3 text fields, one required, one optional and one recommended.
Please help, I've been fighting this for a day now. I have created more advanced forms in the past and did not have issues like this one.
    Thanks!

    Additional info regarding this issue:
I am testing it on my PC. We have the creative cloud license so all is updated and complete. I was testing it in different ways, saving all the versions (static, dynamic, with and without extended rights) and the problem sticks. I have noticed that the file with extended rights weight a bit more than original file. Details below:
    1. straight from livecycle: 832KB
    2. opened in Acrobat, saved as copy 832KB
    3. opened in Acrobat, saved with extended rights 844KB
    4. opened in Reader, saved with filled data 864KB
    5. opened the same file with Reader, it is empty so i save it as a copy - 864KB
    6. opened it in Reader & Acrobat - it's empty; opened it in Photoshop - all data is there...???

  • Reader Extended form rights issues in Reader X

    Hi all
I have a form which is reader extended, which is submit to a SOAP message service(just the form XML) after the form has been filled out. This all takes place over an internal network. When we clicked on the submit button in Reader 9, it would ask if you wanted to allow the connection to the webservice, and would send it through once we click "Allow".
In Reader X however, the gold bar at the top of the form pops up when we click submit, and after choosing to trust the form, it reloads the whole form, and all of the changes made are lost.
Is there any way to programatically tell Reader X to allow the form to make webservice calls(even if theres a security popup) when the form is first opened?
    Regards
    Ross Malan

Yes, it can, especially if you are using Reader 8 or 9.  There were some issues with earlier reader versions that required the positive confirmation of the Reader Extensions credential with the certificate revocation list (CRL), which required that it had to go out to the web to fetch the CRL.
Depending on how deep you want your testing methodology to go, I'd take a virgin windows machine that does not even have reader installed, download or otherwise transfer the RE installer and your form and take it offline.  Then install Reader and open your form.  It should open with the additional rights with no problem.
But the bottom line is that it is designed to work for your use case.

  • Extended rights Acrobat 9.0 forms

I would like to enable voluntary community groups completing the application forms that I've created using Acrobat 9 Professional to be able to save the forms and complete them at their leisure rather than having to complete the form in one go.  Is this possible using Acrobat 9 or do I need other software?
i know about extended rights and forms but this appears just to let people completing the form to save it once.

    Bernd
Please find attached an example of one of the forms.  I'm responsible
for administering a local authority's grant programmes for voluntary
community groups.  I got the Adobe Professional software to produce
forms to enable these groups the option of completing them
electronically. They had mixed results last year with some people being
able to edit their saved forms and others not.  I've since upgraded to
Word 2007 I don't know whether that has any bearing on the matter.
The organisations I work with don't all have huge resources I'm just
trying to make the process as simple as possible for them.  They often
need to consult with their Treasurer or Trustees to gather all the
information the form requests and that's why it would be useful if they
could save the forms more than once and edit them over a period of time
    before submitting them.
    Thanks,
    Kamal

  • How to make a PDF LiveCycle Reader Extended?

    Hi Everybody
I have installed Adobe LiveCycle Reader Extension Server into my machine. But i don't know how to use this to make a pdf reader extended. Please Help me in this regard.
    Thanks,
    Manjeet

    HI,
The website you gave me won't open.
I'm sorry, I know very little about programming, and I'm only an admin assitant with certain administrator rights to my own computer so I don't have access to the servers.
I'm now very confused, I've been trying to get this done for a whole week now without results. http://localhost:8080/ReaderExtensions I thought this is all I needed to import my trial RE credentials. I don't want to purchase a module that might not work if I don't have the whole ADEP document services or if I need certain programs.
I need some guidance to know if I'm doing the right thing. This is what I have done so far:
1;- I currently have the Livecycle ES8.2 version installed in my computer for a couple of years now and recently downloaded and installed the ES2 trial.
2.- I also downloaded the trial version of the RE and installed the credential in my computer.
3.- According to your suggestions in this forum and also in the Adobe instructions I'm supposed to import the RE credential to the administration console (http://localhost:8080/ReaderExtensions with an adminstrator  user and password  password but the site says my user and password are incorrect....??
4.- I don't know what else to do then because I'm stuck in 3.
Now reading manjeet's response, I need to download a server?
I'm trying to test if what ever I'm doing here is right with the use of trial versions of livecycle and RE so after testing I can request to purchase both, but if this doesn't work to make my dynamic form import and export data in adobe reader then my whole project is gone to the trash aswell as my other pending projects.
There is no way and no how we're switching to the ADEP documentation services because the whole corporation is working under another documentation service, so what ever I'm trying to do here is for our internal use as a department.
Will just the Livecycle ES2 and an RE credential be enough?
Please help, I'm very frustrated now.
    Thanks!

  • Extended rights gets lost if user saves file w diffrent filename Why?

I have a question related to extended rights.
Background: I have a editable form field pdf file that I enable "extended rights" (acrobat 9 pro).
So that my users can fill in the form fields and save it and update the file later and then return the file (with the acrobat reader).
It seems like that when the users save the file (with a new/different file name) then the form fields are locked for editing after that the form is useless(not editable).
Is this a bug or is there a good reason or a workaround for this?

  • Reader Extended Features not available in downloaded PDF

I've posted a form on my website with Reader Extended Features enabled so it can be "Ink Signed". Finding that the extended features are not available in browser Reader plugins, I created a link to the PDF with PHP that allows it to be downloaded, then opened with the standalone version of Reader, but still get the message "This document contained certain rights to enable special features in Adobe Reader. The document has been changed since it was created and these rights are no longer valid. Please contact the author for the original version of this document." If I open my original local copy of the PDF it still has Extended Features enabled. What's changing in the downloaded copy?
Created in Acrobat Pro 9, opened in Reader 9.3.4
    Thanks for any insight.

Bernd--thanks for your interest. I found that the problem was the PHP script that I was using to force the PDF to download instead of open in the browser plugin. I used several variations of the script with the same results--seemed to be altering the contents of the PDF which cancelled the Reader Extended Features. A solution that I found was to add
    <FilesMatch "\.(pdf)$">
      ForceType application/octet-stream
      Header set Content-Disposition attachment
    </FilesMatch>
to the .htaccess file. Since I only wanted one PDF (not all of them on the site) to be affected, I put it and the .htaccess file in a subdirectory and linked to it there. The PDF now downloads with Reader Extended Features intact.

  • Error when i try to make a pdf reader extended

    Hi,
I am not able to apply reader extension rights on pdfs.
Step :1 When i  use login to http://host:port/ReaderExtensions/Welcome?ap=1  (readerExtension web page) and upload a file, selecting all the rights.  Now when i click on apply button , a new popup comes with showing uploaded bar.  But i dont see any download button as earlier i was able to see to  download reader extendsion pdf file.( sorry not able to upload screenshots as today seems some issue with this discussion page. Photo upload icon is not active).
Step :2 I also tried to apply rights form process on workbench. Earlier i was able to successfully invoke the readerExtension Activity. But now it says
"There was a problem invoking process "myProcess"
Error: Failed to passivate Document due to an internal error"
So I restarted the server and followed the above two steps. but it is not yet resolve.
Step:3 Then i thought to configure reader Extension credentials again from
Home > Settings > Trust Store Management > Local Credential.
When i click on the already configured certificate ( expiry date :Sunday, January 8, 2023 1:30 PM). I get below errors

  • Save file for Reader Extended PDF

I created a form in Acrobat 9 Pro for a Customer who is using Reader 7 and they are unable to save text that they type in the form...which is the whole point of the forms they needs.
I've done some research and it all says that I need to save my form as a Reader Extended PDF, but that isn't an option when saving my files (and my form is closed for editing).
The only options I have under save as are as follows: Adobe PDF Files; Adobe PDF Files, Optimized; Encapsulated PostScript; HTML 3.2; HTML 4.01 with CSS 1.0; jpeg; jpeg2000; Microsoft Word Document; PDF/A; PDF/E; PDF/X; PNG; PostScript; Rich Text Format; Tables in Excel Spreadsheet; Text (Accessible); Text (Plain); tiff; XML 1.0
I'm sure there is something that I'm missing, and if someone could help point me in the right direction I would be very greatful, as would my customer.
    Thank you in advance,
    Tiffany

That worked, but now I'm having a different issue.  If you know why that would be amazing. As stated before my customer is using Acrobat Reader 7.  When they open the file they are getting an error message, but after cliking ok are able to open it and type in the document. When they save the file and open it back up the text is still there, but the form aspect of the file is gone, and it's just a normal PDF.  They need to be able to use the form multiple times in case information changes they need to be able to edit it.  Does she just need to upgrade to another version of reader?
    Any insight would be appreciated.

  • Unable to save as "Reader Extended" in Acrobat 9.2

    Hello,
I have created a form in Acrobat 9.2. When I save the form and open it in Adobe Reader I can complete the form but I cannot save the completed form, only print.
I need to save the save the form as "Reader Extended" but I cannot find the option when I am saving the form in Acrobat 9.2.
    Any ideas?

It should be under Advanced - Extend User Rights in Adobe Reader... (or
    something similar to that)
