Losing wireless internet connection

After surfing the internet for a while I lose my wireless connection from my laptop. I have other computers directly connected to the Router that dont lose internet connection ever. Its just my laptop and it drives me crazy. I have to reboot the laptop to connect to the internet again. I have a WRT54GS Router with a WPC54GS pcmcia card. Can anyone help?

change the channel to 11...
use your desktop, click this: http://192.168.1.1
usename: blank, password: admin
go to wireless tab, change the channel from there to 11

Losing wireless Internet connection HH 4

Hi, I am using a HH4 and have a number of wireless devices including two smartphones, a Windows 8.1 tablet, a Windows 7 laptop, a smart TV and a Nook connected wirelessly plus one desktop connected by ethernet. I also have a wireless repeater. Almost on a daily basis at least one of the WiFi devices shows that it is connected to the HH 4 but has no internet availability. It can be any of the devices, the occurence appears completely random, any device at anytime. Sometimes they correct themsleves given time, on other occasions I have to restart the HH 4 inorder to re-establish internat availablity. At all times the devices show they are connected to HH 4, it's just that internet is not available. The distnace from the HH 4 or repeater does not seem to affect this at all.
This is becoming increasingly frustrating and annoying can anyone make any helpful suggetsion please to prevent this happening.

First thing to try is a factory reset of the homehub by pressing a pin into the recess button on the rear for about 20 seconds. This can often sort out configuration problems.
If that does not help try giving the 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz frequencies different SSids. Just add a 5 to the end of the 5Ghz SSid so you know which is which. Ensure the 5 GHz Sync with 2.4 GHz: is set to "No".
Once you have done that "forget" the connection on your devices and then restart them and log onto both if they can support both channels. The devices should then automatically switch to the strongest signal.

MacBook Pro and iMac keep losing wireless internet connection.

Greetings all, two weeks ago I purchashed a MacBook Pro and iMac and they've worked fine, except for the internet. The wireless randomly goes out, but the airport bars remain. At first I thought it was just pages having trouble loading because of the OS (stupid I know) It's been happening more and more frequently and the only way to solve it is to turn the Airport off and then on which allows the internet to reconnect. My wireless router is connected to an HP an the router is a Dlink 1310 wireless G router. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

It seems I am not alone. There is a very strange problem either with my brand new unibody MacBookPro 17" or the Airport Extreme I am using to connect to the Internet via a cable connected router. The router I am using is Billion 7300 and works fine, and I can even connect to the wireless access via the router and all works fine. I am using Airport Extreme to extend the access area in my house and also use a USB drive for storage attached to the AirportExtreme. The funny thing is that the first couple of weeks I had no problems with the MacBookPro going on the Internet via the Airport. At that time I had the wireless part of the Billion modem disabled so as to avoid possible interference. Suddenly, one day about a week or so ago, the MBP would connect first time to the wireless Airport and to the Internet for only about a few seconds and then no update on any of the web pages. I was suspecting first my ADSL, but that was all along OK. The signal strength to the Airport is strong, but just the connection to the Internet is no longer available. Strange thing is I have in the same room a 24" iMac and this is still connected to the Internet via the Airport with no problems. Same settings on both! I tried everything I could think off on the Airport, tweaked, changed, reset and created new connection - but without any luck. It is as if the Airport decided to just block the MBP for whatever reason. I also have the Little Snitch, which I disabled too.
I was hoping that the latest Leopard 10.5.7 would have a fix for such a behaviour, but no change.
I cannot make any conclusion as everything contradicts: if the MBP wireless has a problem, I wouldn't be able to connect to the Billion wireless; if the Airport is at fault I should not be able to connect to it with the iMac. I go to work where other two brands of wireless hot-spots I use (D-Link and Billion 7402) and I have no problems swicthing between the two. It seems only Apple's Airport is a problem for my new MBP.
It must be something in the software of the Airport or MBP ?!?!?
APPLE, PLEASE HELP, THIS IS ANNOYING.
I already spent three days trying to solve a problem that should be 'No Brainer" according to the Apple's design books. But I do have a problem that I did not know about before.

2011 MBP losing wireless internet connection

I know macbooks seems to be synonymous with wireless connectivity issues, so add this to the list. I have no problem making a connection to my wireless router with my 2011 MBP but at least a couple of times a day I won't be able to connect to the internet. I'll be surfing the web with no trouble then, without warning I can't access any websites. I still am connected to my network, just not the internet. Other machines connected have no trouble accessing online content (xbox, netflix, desktop mac, desktop pc). Multiple times I turn off wi-fi, turn it on, disconnect from the network, reconnect until finally I am able to access websites again.
Anyone else having similar issues? Something screwy that I can somehow fix?

I am having the same issue, except it happens every time to me when I wake my mac up from sleep mode. It takes several minutes..it says the wifi is looking for networks, even though it shows that I am connected to mine.

Hi Turn Router off for 30 seconds Goto Settings Reset Network Settings After reset you need to enter your router wireless key. Also later check on website for a Firmware update for your router. Cheers Brian

For those who constantly lose their wireless internet connection using WRT54G

Ok I was constantly losing my wireless internet connection on my LAN network when using my laptop, I tried everything to no avail,until today. Heres what I did to solve my problem
1. Upgrade your firmware for the WRT54G to ver.6
2. Reset your wireless router
3. Unplug all cables and wires from your Pc and router
4. Connect your Pc directly to your cable modem and obtain an internet connection
5. Now transfer files you want to keep from your laptop onto a usb flash drive or burn them to a disk
6. Reformat your laptop so that it goes back to all factory settings just like when you bought it
7. When completely done reformatting run software that came with the WRT54G on your desktop pc and follow all instructions,when prompted to type password type the password you last used
8. Go to your laptop and it should pickup a LAN,click connect, it will ask for the encryption key so type it in(whatever you typed when re-installing your wireless router)
Congratulations you are now back up and running,install files saved earlier back on your laptop and enjoy.This is what I did and it solved my problem as a matter of fact i typed this from my laptop and has not dropped my wireless internet connection yet.
NOTE SAVE ANY AND ALL FILES YOU WANT TO KEEP AS REFORMATTING WILL CAUSE YOU TO LOSE DATA!

If you bought a version 5 or 6 return it to where you bought and apply the money towards a WRT54GL v1.x You'll be much happier. You could spend time online rather than pulling your hair out trying to figure out whats wrong. I setup 6 Linux based WRT54G's with no issues before I was given the task of setting up a version 6. Worked for about an hour. Told the guy to return it for a GL. Long story short, set it up in a matter of minutes and he was online. That was 3 weeks ago and he is very happy.

ITunes 8.1 works great but killed wireless internet connection

I installed version 8.1 on both my laptop( PowerBook g4/ OS 10.4.11) and desktop (imac intel / OS 10.5) and after restarting the computer, the wireless internet connection stopped working on both.
I would open Safari and it would be a blank page and and the circle would keep spinning.
So I tried my laptop at a different wireless hotspot and had the same result.
I then tried repairing permissions and I got a list of problems with iTunes/Network Utilities, they repaired and now when I open Safari I get the message that it can not connect to the internet.
I do get an internet connection using ethernet on both.
Any ideas on how to fix this problem?

Did you by any chance also update the firmware on your Apple Airport Extreme (if that's what you have)?
I thought 8.1 killed my connection to my Apple TV, but it was the faulty firmware (see reports elsewhere in these forums).
Now that I have rolled back from 7.4.1 on my Airport I plan to try iTunes again (with white knuckles).

IMAC Wireless Internet Connection Problems All Of A Sudden

My Imac is well over a year and a bit old and has been able to connect to my wireless internet connection absolutely fine until the past week and a half. At first the connection wouldn't work and when I would turn my airport on and off and reset the router, it would eventually work, now that is not working at all. My airport status is either showing 'airport is turned on but is not connected to a network' or 'airport has a self-assigned ip address and may not be able to connect to the internet'
I have formatted my imac twice and still no avail and the last format I tried to join wirelessly straight from boot but it wouldn't join saying 'there is a problem with the wireless connection and you're not connected to the internet.' the annoying thing is I can see the network sitting there and can't join it, my network is also unsecure so no need to input a password. All my home PC's and my Iphone and Blackberry find the network easily enough, although recently the Iphone has began showing only 1 bar of wifi connection.
I am at my wits end as I am unable to connect at all now, I am all out of ideas and have been bashing my head off a wall for the past day without any connection at all.
My router is a buffalo AirStation wireless G high power model, my IMAC is an intel core 2 duo 20", if you need anymore information of my hardware I will gladly provide it. I'm running MAC OSX Leopard 10.5, out the box as I've been unable to run any software updates as I can't connect to the internet.
Please, if anyone can shed any light at all on this issue I would definately try anything.

Anytime you see a self-assigned IP address in your network prefs you know it surely is a problem
with your router configuration. Power down all equip ... make sure modem is off for at least 5 minutes
restart modem, restart iMac ... check your network pref on iMac and make sure it's not 169.x.x.x
If so you will need to recapture the settings from your ISP's modem to the Buffalo.
Always use a secure wireless connection (WEP, WPA, WPA2) or else the whole neighborhood will suck down your bandwidth the slow down what your paying for. I use Time Capsules or AEBS (Airport Extreme Base Stations) that allow you to stealth mode and lower signal output and make the device
as a "closed network" ... meaning no one else can see and tap into your WIFI home network!
802.11N is better than G. and especially when you can use dual bands 2.4 / 5GHz to stop various home interferences. The backup of Time Machine only makes life much easier also! Xtech

Do you mean to say you already have a wireless network setup and thought by buying the Airport Express you just could use it for wireless music alone?
The Airport Express is chiefly a wireless router first, with the wireless music and printing as extra's.
It can be used for streaming music alone, but I think it needs to talk to network time servers and thus it gets screwed up over time not being on the internet. Also by your using your computers wifi for music streaming, no internet with your other router.
So it's a all Airport Express or back to a stereo mini cable.

Setting up a Wireless Internet Connection on Solaris 10

I am new to the whole Solaris/unix world and I was just wondering how to set up a wireless internet connection with a solaris 10 machine. I have a linksys router hooked up to a cable modem and a linksys receiver hooked up via USB on the solaris machine. I would greatly appreciate any help anyone can give me.

Was the router supplied by the ISP or was it bought separately? Are you able to get online when connecting the Mac directly to the router via an ethernet cable? Either way it's best to check the router settings to ensure they are correct.
I’ve not come across the Zoom routers. Setup should be straight forward though, having gone to their website and downloaded the manual. Do the following:
1. Plug one end of the RJ-11 cable (included in the box) to the router, the other end to your phone line via the micro-filter.
2. Plug one end of the ethernet cable (again included in the box) to the appropriate port in the router, the other end to your Mac.
3. Plug in the power cord and switch on
4. Fire up your web browser on your Mac (Safari, Camino, Firefox etc)
5. In the address bar of the web browser type 10.0.0.2 and hit the Return button
6. A Network Password box will appear. This is to gain access to the router itself. The defaults are, Username = admin, Password = zoomadsl
7. You’ll now enter the Basic Setup screen. It’s here where you enter the username and password supplied by your ISP. This is NOT your email username/password but your Internet access ones. If you are not sure or don't have them, call your ISP.
8. Click Save Changes and then click Write Settings to Flash and Reboot. Once the router has reset itself and the Link light comes on and remains steady, you’re online.
That’s it. Job done
If you still cannot get access it may be worth resetting the router (there should be a small button in the back which requires the use of a pen or pencil to press) re-entering your ISP information as described above and trying again.

Second, when "Setup wizard" runs step #6 (“Check the router’s status”), the program asks for the password. Default password “admin” is rejected by the program and I can’t install Linksys software. Just in case I already pressed reset switch on the back of the router but to no avail.
Third, I don’t find out my Ethernet Adapter Wireless Network Connection and correct router’s IP address using ipconfig/all command after connecting WRT54GS with my computer. Ethernet adapter: DHCP disabled, subnet mask 255.255.255.0, IP address 10.32.132.193, default gate 10.32.132.1.

Seems interesting , first do this - push the reset button on the back of router .
push it till 30 seconds , unplug the power cable and plug in the power cable back in After completion of 30 seconds.
then try to log into , 192.168.1.1 again . with the password "admin".
see if it reply?

I am running with OS 10.5.8. Today I started randomly losing my internet connection. It is not caused by the computer going in to sleep mode as I have seen other threads mention. I connect to the internet wirelesssly but Airport indicates there is nothing wrong with my connection and all the other computers in the house are functioning just fine.
The only time I can get the internet to work is after I turn off AirPort and turn it back on, then it will only work for a few seconds. Network Diagnostics is no help, it tells me my connection is fine. I have tried deleting the network profile and recreating it, rebooting the system, resetting the PRAM, and making sure the software is up-to-date (when I can get a connection). All these attempts only make it work for a few seconds before it quits again.
Does anybody know how to fix this? Has anybody else experienced the same problem?

I have a brand new iMac (late 2012) that keeps losing its internet connection - like every five minutes. I have had it for three weeks. During the first two weeks, it worked flawlessly. However, just as the refund period ended - it became desktop dead weight. Suggestions?

did u ever get a solution to this? I have the same 2012 mines 27". It drops after sleep sometimes and can't find anything. Wifi. Connection to the Internet. I pull up network assistant it just gives me blank stares and restart everything. It doesn't even see the time machines and they are still there. I have it right now in full error and my iphones allowing me to see everything as connected and I'm posting here in the forum while my iMac cannot. Doesn't happen all the time. Not sure why it happens or what's goinng on with It. Works great and then sudden wifi failure to recognize.
