Losing WLAN connection all the time

Hi there!
I've seen similar issues discussed here but I couldn't find a solution anywhere. So excuse me if I bring up an existing discussion again.
I bought a Time Capsule 1TB last year. Since then, the WLAN never ever worked very well.
I've configured the WLAN like this:
- *802.11n (802.11b/g compatible)* because my MacBook is the only device that supports 802.11n
- *Personal WPA2*
- Multicast-Rate 2MBit/s
- *WPA-Group Key timeout* 1 Hour
- Channel is selected automatically
- Setting to *Avoid interference* is activated
So far so good, my WLAN works fine, every wireless device can access the network without any problems. Then, suddenly, I lose connection on every wireless device (mostly when I don't use the WLAN for a few hours, and when I get back, connection's lost). When I connect devices by cable, networking works fine, so it's just the WLAN. On my MacBook the Airport symbol is greyed out, meaning I have no connection. When I click on it I can still see my WLAN SSID, but when I choose to connect I get asked to enter the key which is saved in the Keychain. I do this and press connect, a timeout occurs. After rebooting the Time Capsule 2 or 3 times and a bit of luck, my WLAN is back working again.
I live in an appartment so there are a bunch of WLANs around. 10-15 I guess.
This happens several times a week and I can't figure out why.
Has anybody an idea what could cause this?

A few suggestions:
Try turning interference robustness off to see if this might help. Robustness tends to slow down the network.
If you have 10-15 visible wireless networks in your area, your airspace is very overcrowded. Add to this the fact that most newer routers allow a wireless network to be "hidden" and you may likely have 20+ networks competing for airspace.
Since you need to use the 802.11n (802.11b/g compatible) mode, download iStumbler, www.istumbler.net to get a look at the networks in range and what channels they are occupying. If you find that your network is using the same or an adjacent channel as other networks, try changing your channel using AirPort Utility to a setting that is as far away as possible from other networks. This may be very difficult with the number of networks that you are competing against, but your options are unfortunately quite limited and you may need to consider ethernet connections for reliable system operation.

Should Time Machine drive be connected all the time?

I have just bought a Western Digital hard drive, connected it to our imac via Firewire 800, and started the initial Time Machine backup. As the iMac only has one firewire port that I also use for connecting other devices such as my DV cancorder or my Edirol audio interface, I am wondering what happens with Time Machine when it's hard drive is not connected, which will be when ever I am using the firewire port for other things? Time machine is defaulted to back up every hour which it won't be able to do if it is not connected.
Will Time Machine just pick up and do a back up when it is reconnected?
Or, would it be better to use one of the USB ports, even though this is slower, and leave the hard drive connected all the time.

This might be better, especially after your initial full backup, just so you don't have to be fooling with the plugs all the time, and perhaps forgetting to re-connect. If your incremental backups aren't large, the speed difference probably won't be significant.

Looses wireless connection all the time.

Hello. I can say that you have a quite strange „huge question”… It’s non-sense to stay connected with your car which is hundreds miles away. Unless…
I have a theory. You don’t want to controll your car, you want to controll somebody who is driving the car. Volvo XC 60 is a nice family car, usually used by married men between age of 35-45, probably with small children, so it’s very unlikely that you want to controll your teanage kid, mainly because probably even if you would give him/her to drive the car in the neighborhoud, I don’t think that he/she would be „several hundred miles away”… If your child is not young teneage anymore, and he/she has his/her own life, but you want to control him/her, that is sick… So I am convinced that you want to controll your husband who probably travelling often! Am I wright?

Keeping external docking stations connected all the time?

I would like to connect a couple hard drive docking stations to a new iMac so I can easily swap out different bare hard drives. Are there any issues or reasons to not keep two docking stations connected via FW or TB connected all the time?

Should be no problem, just remember to Eject the Disks in the Finder before removing from the Dock.

Nokia 5530 Expressmusic - WLAN list all the time!!...

Hi all,
I seem to be having a very different problem in comparison to most you.
Every 10 minutes or so I get a list of Wireless networks and I just can't stop it.
Have used home wireless lan with no problem, but this local list keeps coming up.
Have set home LAN as priority in list.
Have hidden others but list still comes back as it seems to be scanning all the time.
I have selected show WLAN Availability - NEVER but this is making no difference.
Please help,

Just purchased an 11" Mac Book Air, and I'm using it as a desktop. Is it ok to lea the power adapter connected all the time?

I'm using my macbook air as a desktop unit, with an auxiliary flat panel display, as well as an external storage drive and a CD/dvd drive. Is it safe to leave the power adapter connected to the computer all the time? Will the battery life get affected or shortened by being fully charged all the time?

Apple recommends that for best battery life, you allow the battery to discharge occasionally.

Airport losing my Network all the time

Good morning,
I have set my network several months ago, it was working perfectly fine in the beginning. Now, this is what is happening all the time: after about half an hour being online, it seems like I am not hooked to the internet anymore. The Airport light is green, the signal level is at the highest, the status says "connected", but if I try to access a page, the bar is blank. No other networks show but if I manually type another network that I know of and that is not password protected, it connects to it, and then I can access my page with no problem.
This is not my network, I don't see why I should use a neighbor's network when mine is just set in the same room as my desktop, and above all why I can't catch it with the Airport that seems to say everything is there.
If I want to go back then to my own network, it has disappeared from the list, and then it says it can join back. It takes sometimes half hours before I can join back as if nothing had happened, and then some time later it does it again.
Any idea why it would do that? is my airport box defective?

Thank you for your help, Tesserax, I really appreciate it because I admit I am very annoyed (it is getting worse today, or I am less patient because of my own moods, but it seems to disrupt me from working so much).
I have many other networks, but mine is always with the strongest signal. Sometimes it drops to 50% (the highest is around 85%) and the noise increases (the highest has been 40%), and I see no of the described reasons why. All the other networks that appear are all around signal 44% and below
The only electric cable is the computer cable and the cable from the computer to the printer, could it be that making the interference? there is no way I can hook these somewhere else! The airport is hooked to the modem box and that's where the cable is hooked to my home, so I also do not see how I can avoid having those together. Maybe there is something I haven't understood there.
Also I have not understood how I can change anything in the airport. All those numbers seem to be automatically generated, and I don't see where you have a menu that gives you control to how it is set, if I have to reset something, whether it is in the System's preferences (network) or in the Internet Connect, I don't see any setting menu.

GPRS or Wifi stay connected all the time

I am in a big dilemma. A few days back the GPRS or Wi-Fi connection always connects on its own and stays connected for hours! It used to connect only when required (exchange or Push mail set to synchronize every 30 minutes). It used to connect, check mails and disconnects automatically. But now, it stays on all the time. I checked all my mail connections and they are all set to check mails every 30 minutes. I made sure there are no apps running in the background also.
I called Nokia care and their suggestion is to format the phone and try. But I have so many pics, videos and data that I do not want to format.
A better solution (than hard reset/format) is always welcome.

Hi Pravin. Although it does not transfer any data, my concern was the connection always being active and battery life getting shortened. Anyways, the connection always being on according to me is a bug.
After I did the factory reset, I came to a conclusion that it was one of the emails that I had configured (5 email accounts + 1 exchange account) and one of the email accounts was hanging this.
It is much better now after a factory reset.

Why my ipod sync whole music library when connected all the time ?

My itunes(latest) everytime i connect my ipod (5th gen ) syncs all the songs from begining even though there is no new songs added ? Can someone please help me out this . This has been happening all the time and i have to wait all my thousand plus songs to get synced all the time !

Bluetooth Doesn't connect all the time

My Ford MobileEase Bluetooth in my car only works some of the time. I got it paired up fine but it doesn't always connect and even when it does connect it will sometimes just disconnect. My 3GS worked fine with iOS3 but not with iOS4 only the OS has changed so it is not a hardware issue

Maybe when they ban Taxi Drivers from using their In-Car computers and ban Cops from using their In-Car computers, then they can ban people from using hands free phones. Plus they better ban people from changing the radio station in their car, and whilst they're at it.....might as well ban people from adjusting their air conditioner.
Pretty ironic that you can't use a hands free phone in your car, but yet you can use a CB Radio!
Maybe they should look at enforcing laws that are applicable to everyone and not just selected groups! But I suppose they do have budgets to meet! :-)

Help. DSL drops connection all the time, is it the modem? (westell 327W)

Pardon me because I'm not so tech aware, and so don't know what to do to try to find a solution. We lose our internet connection a lot. It seems to happen in spurts: last night we couldn't connect at all, today it was bad in the morning but now I've been on for about a half an hour and all seems good. I can't figure out any pattern. Last weekend we were fine all weekend, during the week it was bad every single day.
I connect through a desktop and the westell modem; upstairs we connect with a laptop and wireless. The connection problems happen in both places, although it's our housemates who connect upstairs through the wireless and so I'm not entirely sure if they have problems when we're having problems or not (this has been going on for so many months, we've all kind of adapted to it. but it's more and more frustrating). Our wireless is encrypted.
When we can't connect, we get the Explorer 'cannot find website because you are not connected to the internet' error page. Even when we can't connect, the "local area connections" icon on the lower right side of the screen (Windows XP) says we have a network connection at 10.0 mbs. The lights on the modem are all green, and the DSL light stays steady green, although sometimes the internet light will blink erratically, and the wireless light always blinks quickly. We recently switched out the cable to the jack, so it's not that.
Sometimes we can get it to get back a connection briefly by doing one of these things (but they don't always work):
- use the "repair" button on the local area connections window support tab -- this will often get it back for a few minutes but is rarely permanent. When it doesn't work, it usually says it's because it can't renew the IP address
- turn the modem on and off. That's what worked this morning. It did not work last night.
- turn the computer on and off. That worked last night only to get an initial connection that then pooped out.
- use the verizon support popup that sometimes (and only sometimes) appears when we're having connectivity problems. This morning that worked briefly -- the internet connection popped back up at the stage where the pop up siad "testing connection."
Any idea what is going on here? I tried a couple months ago to get help through verizon online support, and it ended up as a 3 hour phone call to India that resolved things only for an afternoon, and not on any more long term basis, and I don't want to do that again unless I know what I'm asking for (since all they do is go through some kind of checklist).

Magic mouse lost connection all the time

I have an iMac for 2 years, my magic mouse always lost the connection and the battery was always fine. I thought that was normal, and then I talked with some friends and they told me that this problems did not happen with them.
So, how could I fix it?

UPDATE and additional info: This problem is still occurring.
Apply have been completely unhelpful so far, after a second phone call, I was just told (again) to restart my MBP, unpair and repair my mouse, and insert fresh batteries. I've also done the SMC and PRAM resets several times.
I'm using my MBP in clamshell mode connected to a BenQ GL2460 monitor. Running my MBP slightly ajar seems to temporarily help with he mouse lagginess but the problem soon reoccurs.
I've tested my mouse on a friends earlier model non updated MBP and the mouse works fine.
I went out a bought a Microsoft USB mouse and the same lagginess happens with it, albeit a lot worse.
I'm currently running both mice connected via bluetooth, which actually seems to be minimising the magic mouse lagginess, but the Microsoft mouse is still very laggy. So I wonder what having two mice connected simultaneously is doing?

Go to settings>connectivity>admin settings>packet data> set it to "When needed"
and;
Settings>connectivity>destinations>internet>select ur destination>options>edit>at bottom there is "Use Access Point" set it to "After Confirmation.
So phone will ask every time if you want to allow a particular app to go online
And if you don't want to use internet/wap at all;
Settings>connectivity>destinations>internet>Delete all access points.
And;
Settings>connectivity>destinations>wap>Delete all access points.

When I connect my iPhone to my dock it iTunes dose not connect all the time

I try to connect my iPhone to I tunes but so times it dose see my iPhone. My iphone says that this device is not made for my iPhone. I have 1st gen and I've hade it allmost a year. My friend has a 1st gen and right after the 1year mark passed his started to break down. Now if this happens to me all I got to say is OMG! I've taken my iPhone to the store about 6 months ago and they gave me a new one and vince then I've never droped this one or anything so what's going on!

Try connecting the phone directly to the USB port on the computer without the dock.
