Loss of a/v sync upon convert to h.264 .mp4 file

Hey guys
This file is about 1hr:20min long-  It's an interview shoot that I needed to send raw footage of for review by a friend, anyways when I export the .mp4 file it comes out out of sync
My source footage in pr Pro CS4 is HDV and everything is perfectly in sync when played from the timeline
(in timeline source footage is 1440x1080 HDV 48 khz and export is to 640x360 widescreen h.264 22.4 khz)
but when I export it and play back with Adobe Media player the .mp4 file slightly goes out of sync and after about 10- 15 minutes it's noticeable- by the 1 hour mark it's even worse
I always close down Pr Pro CS4 first, then open up AME CS4 to encode the video by importing the sequence
Has anyone ever had to deal with this issue
any solutions??
Thanks
Tony

Looks like I answered another one of my own questions
It seems that changing the export audio sample rate from 22khz to 24khz did the trick- I guess this should've been obvious being that the original audio is
48 khz and 24 being exactly half of that
A friend told me it could've been a drop frame issue (meaning maybe HDV and my export options drop frame didn't match maybe one was non drop frame and the other was drop frame)- something to keep in mind going forward, but was not the issue here.
Anyways
Hopefully info this will help someone in the future
Best
Tony

  • How do you convert a swf or mp4 file into flv using creative cloud programs?

I am trying to embed a video as HTML5 with Flash fallback into my Dreamwaver site and only have the swf file of the video.
Please let me know if you have any ideas about how to convert a swf or mp4 file into flv, without loosing pixels and quality of the swf file.
    Thank you!

If you have MP4 video, you can use Pickle Player which has built-in Flash fallback for Mozilla.  No conversions required .

  • I am trying to transfer my movies (mp4 files) to my IPad, but they are not showing up on the IPad. I have 13 movies showing on my IPad that they are in ICloud. I've sync'd the movies I want to the IPad, but only one is showing under the "movies" folder. ?

I have been trying to transfer some different movies from my PC to my IPad, but they are not showing in the "movie" folder. I have sync'd the movies (these are mp4 files) that I wanted transfered, but only one is showing in the folder. There are 13 other movies in the folder that have the ICloud symbol in the corner of their picture. I understand that I can pull those movies from ICloud any time I want to watch them, but I want to watch the ones that I've just sync'd with my IPad. How do I find them? After I checked the movies I wanted, I "applied" them and watched it sync and copy the wanted movies to my IPad. Now what?  Thanks.

There are some good programs that you could use to convert the format, Handbrake or Mpegstreamclip are two good free ones. Convert them to MP4 and then try importing them again.

  • Quality loss when converting pro res to mp4

    Hi
I have a problem with the workflow from After Effects to a final .mp4 video.
I have been editing time lapses in After Effects, and exporting them as Pro Res HQ- all good so far. However, I can´t seems to be able to convert the Pro Res file to a .mp4 (or quick time .mov for that matter) without significant quality loss. This happens if I convert using adobe media encoder, or if I import the Pro Res files to Premiere and export through Premiere.
However, if I import the original JPG/TIFs to Premiere, and export using the exact same setting- I get a better result. Also, when I have uploaded the original Pro Res HQ file to vimeo, they do a much better job of converting it than Media Encoder or Premiere do when I convert to .mp4 (I´m aware that it is not the same conversion, but still..).
So my conclusion must be that AME and PP does not convert from Pro Res to other codecs very well? I have to work on my files in AE, and I need .mp4 as the final product (requirement for uploading to a stock site). How do I do this without getting lower quality video than if my workflow and export was only in Premiere? After Effects does not render out .mp4 very well it seems...
A screenshot showing the setting I use when exporting from PP or AME. The settings produce a good result when exporting other files from PP, but not the Pro Res files I have exporter from AE.
    Thanks for your input!

Figured it out after testing various settings. I read an article describing the keyframe interval setting at 1 as the best option- clearly that was wrong! After searching I found a better description of keyframe interval: "Having too many keyframes severely reduces quality, because the efficiency of reusing image areas from previous frames is completely lost at each keyframe – the encoder has to "start over" at every keyframe. Therefore, we want as few keyframes as possible to achieve the highest quality for the given target bitrate."
Tested with keyframe settings 25 and 75- both seem fine.
    Thanks for the feedback

  • Audio Video does not sync upon INPUT of .mp4 file

I use Elgato Video Capture to digitize 6-hour VHS tapes. It emits *.mp4 files and passes them to iMovie.
In iMovie 9 there were no problems.
Using the same workflow in iMovie 11 leaves the audio lagging progressively behind the video. Amusing, but useless.
I searched these forums and found answers to the problem of in-sync audio getting out of sync on export. That is not my problem! My audio is out of sync upon import into iMovie 11.
Do I have to go back to iMovie 9?

I don't know, but if it were me, I would use EyeTV to export shorter chunks, e.g. logical events, rather than all 6 hours at once.
Alternatively, you could use MPEG Streamclip and chop it up there into logical events.
You can right-click on the EyeTV recording in EyeTV and select reveal in finder. Then right-click on the .eyeTV file in the finder and select SHOW PACKAGE CONTENTS. You can then drag the .mpg file into MPEG Streamclip and split it there. You may need the $20 Apple MPEG2 Playback Component. MPEG Streamclip will tell you if this is the case.
The advantage of doing it in EyeTV is you wouldn't have to spend the $20.
My only other idea is to check the EyeTV forums.

  • I have a .mov file that is 59 gigs.  Is there a converter that can reduce the file size with minor resolution loss so I can import it into final cut express?

I have a .mov file that is 59 gigs.  Is there a converter that can reduce the file size with minor resolution loss so I can import it into final cut express?

Open the file in QuickTime Player. Then do Tools > Show Movie Inspector.  What does it say for Format and FPS?
At 59GB, I suspect you have either a 4 hour DV video or a 1+ hour video that was converted to Apple Intermediate Codec.   If it's either of those, you can import it directly into FCE provided you select the appropriate Easy Setup first.  Your clips have to match the properties of the Easy Setup you are using.
If it's neither DV or AIC then you need to convert it to one of those codecs.  (QuickTime/DV or QuickTime/AIC)  Many people in this forum rely on MPEG Streamclip (it's free and works great).

  • Drifting sync with converted MP4 files

Hi there. I'm converting some MP4 files to .mov using AIC using slipstream so that I can edit the footage in FCP. I find that the sync is drifting very gradually within a few minutes. The sound is an aiff file recorded digitally at the time. Any idea what might cause this? Thanks. Should I use another codec?

Do not use ProRes HQ. It's overkill unless you are working with FILM not VIDEO. Just use ProRes 422. You will see this documented all over this forum. It was even discussed earlier today.
To the OP- A lot of people also use MPEG Streamclip (free download) to convert files to editing formats. Not that there is anything wrong with Compressor. I just want to point out another option.
What sample rate was the audio recorded in? 44.1khz or 48khz? If it's the former it would explain why your audio is drifting. Try using QT to convert to 48khz AIFF 16 Bit

  • Where is the sync key saved, is there a specific file in which it might be saved? prefs.js or user.js?

Hey all, I really hope I can get an answer to this issue because it's been 3 days a-crackin' with absolutely nothing certain.
I had decided to fresh install FF because it had been giving me some trouble and what I thought should be a breeze ended up being a total disaster. I was using FF Sync and selected to sync my BM's, addons and prefs. Now to my surprise, upon re-installation, I found out I needed the sync key. I had never needed that so I never thought of saving it, also never knew this was a one way ticket to information loss... The worst part is that I didn't back up my profile thinking "Hey, everything is sync so what for" So for the past 3 days, I've been trying to recover lost/deleted files from my previous profile, hoping that I maybe get my hands on the sync key somehow someway in a certain file in plain text.
If it is saved in plain text, in which file would that be. I'm using a friend's pc now because I dare not plug my HD now since there's a high risk of losing any possible recovery chances I have for the lost profile files (I'm using an external usb thingie and I'm using an undelete software to recover lost files
On another note, is it really necessary to clear all sync data when requesting a new sync key? I get the security risks and all but isn't that why there's a username/password combo? I mean, no one would be able to reset my sync key/account unless they have my username/pass so technically I should be able to reset my key without having to lose the info in the account... and save a lot of people of lot of anguish... my 2 cents
    Fredo

'''When''' you request a new Sync Key (Recovery Key) your data is wiped from the Sync server, so don't do that.
Three things you need to connect to the Sync server - user name, password, and your Sync Key (Recovery Key).
BTW, Sync really isn't intended as a backup medium as you are attempting to do. It's purpose is to synchronize your Firefox data across multiple different devices that you may own.

  • What is the best way to load and convert data from a flat file?

    Hi,
I want to load data from a flat file, convert dates, numbers and some fields with custom logic (e.g. 0,1 into N,Y) to the correct format.
The rows where all to_number, to_date and custom conversions succeed should go into table STG_OK. If some conversion fails (due to an illegal format in the flat file), those rows (where the conversion raises some exception) should go into table STG_ERR.
What is the best and easiest way to archive this?
    Thanks,
    Carsten.

    Hi,
thanks for your answers so far!
I gave them a thought and came up with two different alternatives:
    Alternative 1
I load the data from the flat file into a staging table using sqlldr. I convert the data to the target format using sqlldr expressions.
The columns of the staging table have the target format (date, number).
The rows that cannot be loaded go into a bad file. I manually load the data from the bad file (without any conversion) into the error table.
    Alternative 2
The columns of the staging table are all of type varchar2 regardless of the target format.
I define data rules for all columns that require a later conversion.
I load the data from the flat file into the staging table using external table or sqlldr without any data conversion.
The rows that cannot be loaded go automatically into the error table.
When I read the data from the staging table, I can safely convert it since it is already checked by the rules.
What I dislike in alternative 1 is that I manually have to create a second file and a second mapping (ok, I can automate this using OMB*Plus).
Further, I would prefer using expressions in the mapping for converting the data.
What I dislike in alternative 2 is that I have to create a data rule and a conversion expression and then keep the data rule and the conversion expression in sync (in case of changes of the file format).
I also would prefer to have the data in the staging table in the target format. Well, I might load it into a second staging table with columns having the target format. But that's another mapping and a lot of i/o.
As far as I know I need the data quality option for using data rules, is that true?
Is there another alternative without any of these drawbacks?
Otherwise I think I will go for alternative 1.
    Thanks,
    Carsten.

  • Premiere Pro audio sync issues with 48khz audio on video file and 44.1khz audio on external audio

So, I recorded video and audio on my Canon 5D Mark II at 1080p, 23.976 fps, and 48khz, 16-bit Stereo audio. And I used a Zoom H4 to record an mp3 audio file at 44.1khz Compressed. When trying to sync the audio in Premiere Pro CC, the audio slowly loses sync over time. I already tried to convert the 44.1khz mp3 file to 48khz in Adobe Audition. But that didn't fix the problem. Any ideas?

There's always time-stretch changes to the audio file with "keep pitch unchanged" checked, I suppose. Mind you, I've heard of people doing it but haven't done it myself. There's other possible options I'm sure. There's been quite a few threads here on time-sync issues over time.

  • Why convert to iPod a H264 file ?

This is the greatest mystery to me (except some mystic ones):
Hanbrake a DVD to H264 (with all the settings for Ipod compatibility) : you get a mp4 file. This is still not compatible with ITunes and then cannot be transferred to iPod. Open it with QT7pro (for instance), export to iPod ..(several hours of hard labor for your G5)
This gives a mw4 file with a nice iTunes6 icon.
Reopen it with QT7 pro, change whatever you need (for example height of the screen): you get in few second a new...mp4 file, that you have to reconvert to iPod ....:
Doesn't it look like weird to some of you ???

the program does not support 16/9 screens
Actually, what the program does not support is "re-scaling with constrained aspect ration." This is a matter of poor programming on the part of the the programmer.
I had to reopen the resulting file in QT7pro, change the wide/height ratio and then ...reexport to iPod.
Re-exporting is a wasted effort. After changing the height in QT simply select the "Save" option in the File menu. The file, in its current format and with the new height setting will be saved with the QTime extension ".mov" instead of the converted file's ".m4v" or ".mp4" extension. If the changed extension bothers you, just change it to reflect its true format before adding it to iTunes and syncing to the iPod.

  • IPhone refuse to sync some of my .mp4 files

I have made some mp4 video clips using iMovie. Most of them could sync to my iPhone with no problem.
However, my iPhone reject some of them with a message saying: "xyz.mp4 is not copied to the iPhone because it cannot be played" or something like that.
I have made many mp4 files over the years from DV source, I couldn't remember if I changed the resolution, codec, fps choices differently in some of them.
How can I find out why the iPhone is rejecting some of my mp4 files? They were all created using iMovie 5.
I assume iMovie 8 would have a preset preference settings optimized for iPhone or YouTube etc. When I use iMovie 5, I have to hand pick some of the setting values without knowing whether they will make a difference at the target device in terms of the video quality.

If you do a Ctrl-I in iTunes and look at the summary you can tell what the various parameters are.
In general the rule of thumb is:
    1) No more than 640 (height can vary depending on widescreen, but no more than 480)
    2) Data rate not greater than 1500 (and it's far better to err on the lower side -- even rates approaching this can sometimes not play).
I encode all my stuff at around 1000 total data rate, and it plays fine even on the 38" screen using component inputs from the iPhone. If you have stuff that exceeds this you can right click and "Convert to iPod" in iTunes and that should clear it up.
