Loss of all sound on iPhone

I've lost all sound on my iPhone from phone ringing to text alerts to simple clicking when typing etc. also volume controls and mute button don't work either. Tried 'settings' and rebooting the phone but unsuccessful.
I updated the previous night to 7.1.1 not sure if there is any connection?
Any suggestions?

Does the Speaker still work? Are any alerts played at all? Calls on Loudspeaker?
Sounds like a problem with that... How long have you had it? If not long, try to get it replaced... if a bit longer, I'd recommend taking it to your nearest Nokia Service Centre (www.nokia.com/repair) and asking them to take a look at it.Message Edited by richcowell on 28-Jul-2006

  • Lost all sounds on iPhone 1st Gen

All my iPhone sounds are gone unless I have headphones plugged in, including the click on and click off. I cannot hear phone calls without headphones. When I adjust volume on the side buttons it says Headphones even when no headphones are plugged in. I have Sync'ed, Restored, Restarted, and Hard restart. The silent switch is in the correct position. I have made a call with the headphones, then disconnected the phones. Nothing seems to bring the sounds back I'm out of airspeed and ideas. If I go to Settings>sounds>Ringtone and press a ring tone, it comes through the speakers. Help.

  • Latest version of Flash (10.3) seems to have caused loss of ALL sound!

First, here are my specifics:  I have a HP 2140 Notebook (32-bit system) running Windows XP, Firefox 5.0.
Here is what I did:  yesterday, I downloaded the latest version (10.3) of Flash.  I didn't do anything else differently.
Sometime later (the problem did NOT happen immediately), I realized that I had NO sound at all on my computer--i.e, not just Flash sounds, but no alerts, no startup/shut-down sounds, no NOTHING!
Hours & hours of research and trial & errior have led me to connect this problem to Flash.  I have actually restored the sound TWICE--I believe through deleting & reinstalling Flash as well as delecting Macromedia cookies, etc.--but both times, after a period of time in which I didn't do ANYTHING else, the sound went away again.
As you might be able to tell, I am extremely frustrated at this point!  Right now, I have uninstalled Flash and left it off, but still, no sound.  This can't be a problem with my computer or my sound card--the drivers are updated, all components are reported to be functioning normally, etc.
Someone, please help!  I am fairly computer-savvy about the basics, but not about technical stuff, so please, if you know what the issue might be, step-by-step instructions would be awesome, and I would be extremely grateful!!!

That's the problem--my computer is NOT a Pavillion machine.  However, after I replied last night, I realized that instead of the using the model number (HP 2140), I could use the product number which was also located on the bottom of my machine (a longer, more random string of numbers).  When I did this, the correct HP Notebook 2140 came up, even though this model is not otherwise listed on the site.  After that, I was able to access the driver info.
Unfortunately, by that time it was almost midnight, and I had to work today!   But I will try to download the appropriate driver as soon as I get home this afternoon.
You said you are not convinced that the audio drivers are the problem--is there something else that you can think of?  Do you think that my problem is related to Flash as I suspected?  What about the fact that I DID actually restore sound on two separate occasions--wouldn't that suggest at least that my speakers are working?
Thank you again for sticking with me on this!!!

  • Loss of all sound after installing iTunes 7.7

I was not having any problems with iTunes and was converting old vinyl records to CD's. When the converting software opened up iTunes, a dialog box asked if I wanted to install iTunes 7.7 I then installed iTunes 7.7. After doing so I had no sounds on my computer. I uninstalled Quick Time and reinstalled it--still no sounds. I uninstalled iTunes--still no sounds. I did several system restores--still no sounds. I reinstalled iTunes---still no sounds. Is is possible to install an earlier version of iTunes?

Okay. Try heading into your Control Panel and launching your Sounds and Audio Devices control panel. Click the Audio tab.
Is the correct default device showing up in your "Sound playback" area?

  • LOVE LOVE LOVE my iPhone so far, but ringer switch doesn't stop all sounds?

With exception of a few concerns like somewhat low speakerphone and earpiece volume, no non-pinch zooming in maps, not being able to expand email contacts (to see the actual address), not having any auto-fill in Safari, and some stability issues (a couple Safari crashes on complex sites - to be expected until they collect enough bug data and make a patch)... I love my iPhone! After updating my OS & iTunes, activation took only a few minutes (early evening of the 29th) since I was an existing account holder. I did have a corporate discount on my plan and was worried I would be denied, but it went through just fine - fwew!
So then, I'm in a movie theatre today during a dramatic, quiet passage, with the ringer switch off (I'm so polite! <bg>), and low and behold, here comes a clever marimba roll. Having not heard this other than in the ringer setup area, I wasn't sure what it was (still not). Hitting the sleep button on top didn't do anything... it bleeped 3 times, almost sending me out of the theatre in embarrassment. I don't have to go into the settings and turn off all the notices do I? The ringer off is supposed to stop ALL sounds, per Apple's site. Anyone experience this or have a solution?

Per the manual, the switch doesn't stop the alarm clock from going off. Which is set to marimba by default.

  • My iphone 3gs, has ceased all sounds help

About 2 weeks ago my iphone decided to stop playing all sounds, i discovered this when i set my alarm for the morning and noticed when i locked the screen it didnt click. Since then any sounds used via the external speakers fail to play. I have no hiss to even make me think there is sound playing. All Apps, Alarms, tones, phone calls, text msgs, Speaker phone fail to play any sound at all. But if i plug in my headset then the sounds can be clearly heard.
Before you advise me to check the mute button, i have i check the mute button all the time its in the sound position and guess what "no sound".
Its almost like my phone has taken on a hearing impairment.
I have tried all the online suggestions, from inserting headphone jacks in and out 20 times to sucking on the jack. Master resets, and seeing the apple people who low behold took couple of minutes to play with the phone without opening it up and saying its a hardware issue.
Come on guys this is isnt stupidville and the consumer market wasnt born yesterday.
So who's got some answers out their for me?
Is it fixable? What causes the phone to do this?
If i had an explaination as to why it occured so it can be shared amongst others then that would let me leave with my hearing impaired iphone. But being moranic enough to switching the mute button on, come on "hello, McFly"
So Apple support, there must be an answer somewhere a large corporation that thrives on being its best, running the market with handheld devices.
    thanks

I'm not sure to whom you think you're addressing.....
We're users on this forum, just like you.  We're not Apple support.
As far as your problem is concerned, have you done the steps recommended in the user guide:  restart?  reset?  restore?
If you've done that and you still have the problem, bring the phone into Apple for evaluation.  If there's a problem with the phone, it will be replaced.

    Hey Amiee_19,
Thanks for the question. It sounds like your Ring/Silent switch may be toggled:
    Ring/Silent switch - iPhone
    http://help.apple.com/iphone/7/#/iph3bd01398
    Ring/Silent switch
Flip the Ring/Silent switch to put iPhone in ring mode or silent mode .
In ring mode, iPhone plays all sounds. In silent mode, iPhone doesn’t ring or play alerts and other sound effects.
Important: Clock alarms, audio apps such as Music, and many games play sounds through the built-in speaker, even when iPhone is in silent mode. In some areas, the sound effects for Camera and Voice Memos are played, even if the Ring/Silent switch is set to silent.
For information about changing sound and vibration settings, see Sounds and silence.
Use Do Not Disturb. You can also silence calls, alerts, and notifications using Do Not Disturb. Swipe up from the bottom edge of the screen to open Control Center, then tap the Do Not Disturb button . See Do Not Disturb.
If the above does not resolve your issue, see this article:
iPhone: No sound or distorted sound from speaker

  • Iphone is playing all sounds/music backwards!

My iphone 3GS has been acting very strange today. It was running very slow and laggy earlier but that has seemed to go away. The strangest thing is that now all sounds from unlocking the screen to music is playing in reverse. Has this ever happened to anyone?

Hard to believe but... try resetting your iPhone by pressing the home and sleep buttons until you see the Apple logo, ignoring the slider. Takes about 5-15 secs of button holding and you won't lose any data or settings.
