Loss of Audio in iDVD

I know this has been an issue in past posts, but I'll ask again. I extracted audio from another clip and dragged it down to one of the timelines and then lowered the audio in the clip itself, in the timeline, that it is synced up with. I had unwanted audio from my main clip, but wanted to use audio from a different clip (second camera). It plays fine in iMovie and Previews in iDVD, but when it burns to DVD the audio is missing. Why? Any recent solutions (outside of using FCP, which I should and need to get back to using.)?

Hi Aaron
There are several origins to this. I know about three of them.
1. Renaming the movie project icon (from iMovie) on the desk-top results in
a silent DVD disk after burning
2. Using music bought by iTunes in the movie = no sound. It has to be
exported out as a music-CD and .aiff sound-files. This used in the movie
works OK
3. If in the movie one has used audio of different types (.aiff and mp3 etc.)
and resolutions (12-bit and 16-bit). Lot's of strange problems would occure. (I only use 16-bit sound and import only .aiff audio)
I would in iMovie: Export out as a Full Quality QT movie. Import this into a
new iMovie project and try from here
- or - Copy back to a new tape in the Camera and re-import this into a new
project and make a DVD from this.

  • Loss of audio in IDVD preview

So i created a travel movie in iMovie with soundtrack from iTunes and narration through microphone.
I "shared" the project with iDVD but when I preview the movie, all the sound is gone.
It worked fine when I did a snowboarding movie last weekend.
Should i just go ahead and burn the DVD and trust that it will encode the audio, or is something wrong that needs fixing?
    Thanks in advance.

You could create a disk image and test that. Should be the same as a burned DVD-R.
Suggest you create a disc image and then burn the DVD. File/Save As Disc Image...
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=164927
This will isolate any encoding/burning issues you may encounter. Once the disc image is created, double-click the .img and burn the virtual disc that should appear on your desktop, using Toast to burn the DVD. Disk Utility to burn the .img file. Usually, you can select a burning speed in Disk Utility.
There are variations to this process based on which OS X you are using...
Open Disk Utility (in Utilities folder in Applications folder), click on the virtual disc (maybe the .img) in the left-hand window. Click the Burn icon. A new window should drop down and your SuperDrive tray will open after clicking the Burn icon. Insert a recordable DVD. (Verbatim DVD-R preferred by me.) Click the Close button. Wait. Select a burn speed. Then click the Burn button.
-->If the virtual disk selection won't allow you to click the Burn icon, use the .img file instead. This may have changed in 10.3.9 and did change in Tiger.
Also, you can use DVD Player to play the virtual disk to check your iDVD project before burning to DVD. Launch DVD Player. File/Open VIDEO_TS (Open DVD Media... in Player 4.6). Find the VIDEO_TS folder and open that. (The audio folder is for DVD-Audio disks.)

    Hi Ricardo,
Thanks for posting the chart XML and associated information, as it's proved very helpful in deciphering the issue you've hit.
Firstly, in #1 you've attempted to create a "Spline Area" chart, according to your XML. This chart type is not one of the chart types that we have licensed from AnyChart. Only those chart types exposed via our Create wizards are covered by our license with AnyChart. If you wish to create such a chart type in your application, you will need to contact AnyChart and chat with them about obtaining a license for that particular chart type. In earlier releases of APEX, it was feasible to generate unlicensed chart types, such as "Spline", via the "Custom XML" region. However, that was not supported behaviour and was not the intended usage of the "Custom XML" region. Since 4.1, that option is no longer available. To resolve your issue, I recommend that you update the chart XML to use one of our licensed chart types.
Secondly, in #3 you are referencing an SWF file called "anychart.swf", however the SWF file that we incorporate in an APEX installation is called "OracleAnyChart.swf". To resolve this issue, I would recommend updating the SWF reference to point to the AnyChart 6 file that we've incorporated with the release i.e. /i/flashchart/anychart_6/swf/OracleAnyChart.swf. NOTE: you would also need to update the reference to the associated JS file, to /i/flashchart/anychart_6/js/AnyChart.js.
    I hope this helps.
    Regards,
    Hilary

  • When converting from a .wav to a .mov is there a loss of audio quality when using QuickTime?

When converting from a .wav to a .mov is there a loss of audio quality when using QuickTime?

When converting from a .wav to a .mov is there a loss of audio quality when using QuickTime?
That would depend on your work flow. MOV is the generic QuickTime file container and is not related to any particular data compression format. If you perform a simple "Save" or "Save As..." action that merely copies the data in the WAV file to an MOV file, then the data remains unchanged and maintains its original quality. If, on the other hand, your transcode/re-compress the original data to a different compression format, then there is always the potential for some loss in quality. Depending on the codec and/or settings, the potential loss could be inaudible to severe.

  • Intermittent Loss of Audio

I rented Micheal Clayton on HD a couple of days ago (my second HD rental), noticed that the movie playback had intermittent loss of audio whether I set it to DD5.1 or not it made no difference.
The audio loss don't seem to happen at the same scene everytime I rewind and play it back all over again. It seems to happen at random scenes during the movie playback and several times there was no audio for nearly 5 to 10 seconds before it reappears and when I rewind and playback the same scene again, the audio seems to be alright for most parts?
I am wondering if any other users have had similar audio issues with rented movies from iTunes?
This is like my first rental movie which had issues with audio, the previous 3 or 4 rentals did not have any audio nor video issues. It's not my ATV unit either because movies and music videos which I already own, playback on it just fine in DD5.1 via Optical and HDMI. So the issue was just with that one movie which I rented then.
I am wondering how could one demand for a refund from Apple when faced with such problems or issues after the rented movie dissappears from your ATV 24 hours later??
Now I am feeling cautious to rent another movie, what if I have another issue with which ruins the movie experience?
I think I will stick with my PS3 and Blu-Ray for now.

Not sure but I thought I read in another issue that if you connect a TB cable from your Mini into the TB port on the display and the audio/video is OK then that would mean the built-in cable is bad.  I have never tried this so not sure it would work.  Hate to buy a TB cable just to  test because of cost.  The other way would be to take to Apple store and have them check the cable.  It contains miniture IC boards and one could be bad.

  • Loss of audio panning effects with timeline audio of Sync type "Stream"

I have a Flash animation which is loaded into a parent master Flash file. In the animation, there is voice audio embedded in the timeline which is synced with a character animation. The Sync type of the audio is set to Stream, which is essential for the mouth movements to match the audio. When I try to pan the voice audio so that it comes only out of the right speaker, it sounds fine during preview playback, but after publishing, all of the panning effects are lost. If I change the Sync type to "Event" or "Start", the panning effects work fine, but the audio is terribly out of sync with the animation.
The source audio is a mono audio file. Not sure if that has anything to do with it. I've tried changing the publish settings for both the parent and the child animation Flash files to be Speech, Mp3 mono, Mp3 Stereo and just about every other option, with no desirable results. I have also tried publishing and running the animation without loading it through the parent file, also no results.
Is there some kind of rule in Flash about Stream versus Event audio and panning? Do I need to use a stereo audio source file? I don't currently have access to the original audio files, but I can get them. Are all Stream type sounds automatically converted to mono at runtime or something??
Thank you thank you thank you

According to the Adobe installation information the trial version of Premiere Elements 11 is fully functional and the watermark is only present until a licence code is purchased.
I have edited AVI footage from a camcorder using the program with no problems (and no loss of audio sync) and the watermark is also present with this.
The odd placement of audio and video was caused by my not dragging the clip carefully enough.
What is odd is that the clip plays completely normally using WIndows Media Player and VLC Media player so I would expect Premiere Elements to be able to handle it without problems.
I think that there is some sort of bug in Premiere Elements' handling of mpe4 files (both in versions 10 and 11) rather than there being anything wrong with my computer.
Is there some way of communicating this directly to the Adobe programers ?

  • Exported Final Cut XML from Imovie09 causes loss of Audio Sync

I have recently upgraded to ILife09 and tried a process that always worked in ILife08 but now get Audio Sync problems.
I have created an Imovie project that is 2hours and 50 mins long and wanted to export it to Final Cut Express as XML. This used to work 100% with Imovie08. However, with this latest version of Imovie, when exported to Final Cut Express, the first 45 mins of the XML movie is well out of sync (Audio / Visual).
    Has anyone experienced this?

    Hi Roberic,
there is a bug in iMovie '09 that causes loss of audio sync when you use custom slow/fast motion. This has been experienced by many users. See for example this thread:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=9152271
I don't know if this applies to exports to .xml but it could well be that your problem lies here. There are some workarounds, being the easiest one to only use what the slow motion slider snaps to instead of entering custom speed percentages.

  • Loss of audio sync when importing Samsung Galaxy 2 (GT-I1900) video to Premier Elements 10

I am loosing audio sync when I import video from a Samsung Galaxy 2 GT-I1900 phone even when using settings chosen by Premier Elements 10.
The file plays OK in Windows 7 media player.
I have tried using both direct import from the phone and transferring the file separately without solving the problem.
The Premier Elements is version 10.0(20110902.Mol11.B123.280463)
Unlinking the audio and video makes no difference.
VideoReDo reports the file as :

Letting VideoReDo simply rewrite the file resulted in loss of all but the first few seconds of audio.
Elements seems to have imported the file as NTSC-AVCHD-AVCHD LITE 720p 30fps
The computer is running Windows 7 Professional  64 bit version  Service Pack 1 kernel 6.1.7601.17944 (reported by SIW)
The computer motherboard is a Gigabyte Z68x-UD3H-B3 with an Intel Core i5-2500 CPU at 3.30GHz. Memory is 4GB.
I note that others have had similar problems with non video recorder recordings.
Can you suggest any file conversion of the original that will work – I have tried several with no improvement in the final result.
And can anyone shed light on what is the basic cause of these problems?

  • IMovie audio stutter+ iDvD audio encoding = Toast ?

In the 8 days since I finally got into iMovie, then iDvD, I've encountered both the skittery / unstable audio Playback of iMovie audio & now iDvd's audio encoding issues . [ app "not responding" while still chuggin' away, etc\etc. ]
It was good to hear from an iApp specialist that these are known issues being 'addressed'.
But it's quite disheartening when a GoOgle ( or Forum ) Search shows woes & hope from 2005 & before.
Will iLife 7 iron out much ? [ or introduce a whole new set for us to spend months grappling with ? ]
My real question here, well the head-of-the-line question ! . . . is > after reading a Macobserver post from 2/06 on Toast 7, I have to wonder if it fills in many gaps and opens the pallette while solving some problems.
It doesn't have slide transitions , but it's work could go to iMovie/iDvd ??
( too many toys in the toybox !! -- pardon my overwhelment )
One hard-fact question that's more answerable is > After my 1st "hung in audio // not responding" Disk Image burn , a Wec-Chat Agent considered it 'dead' & I cancelled it. Is there a headless body in a folder somewhere ?, and is that what "delete encoded assets" is for ??

So !...I'm a' confused w/ all the ways to 'archive'
an iMovie project. i created an .img, a
Data-Disc...which could burn a DvD of the project,
but not open in iMovie...yes ?
Warning: we're going to jump a bit from topic to topic.
    • An archive is a backup copy of something. The purpose of the archive is to preserve the thing as it exists today. An archive of an iMovie project "captures" it as it exists today. If necessary, months from now you can use the archive to re-create the project as it exists today.
    • The archive can take many forms. It can be stored as a disk image — a file stored on your computer that uses a .dmg suffix and looks and acts like a hard disk. Or it can be a ".zip" file created in the Finder. Or it can be a simple duplicate of the project stored on a hard disk or DVD. (A disk image file or zip file does not save significant hard disk space. An iMovie project can't be compressed to any significant extent.)
    • iMovie's menu command File > Burn Project to Disc is there for the convenience of iMovie users wanting to copy the project to a DVD — as a computer file. But iMovie can burn a DVD only if the entire iMovie project fits on one disc. Technically, it doesn't create an standalone archive, it simply copies the project — with all the files and folders the project contains — onto the DVD, then burns the DVD.
    • The Finder lets us create an standalone archive of a file or folder, using the File > Create Archive Of command. The command copies everything to a file that has a ".zip" suffix. If we want, we can tell the Finder to burn the zip file onto a DVD. The zip file has to fit on one DVD.
    • Backup applications like Retrospect can create archives too. Retrospect can store the archive on a variety of media. The backup is stored in a format only Retrospect understands.
    • Most of us also have another backup solution available to use with iMovie. Exporting the iMovie project back to tape is a good backup. For most projects, the clips return as clips when the tape is re-imported to a new project. Clips like titles and transitions are no longer editable, of course. Note you must re-import the material to access it.
IS there a way to save a 29 GB project to one DvD
    • Regrettably, no. An iMovie (or iDVD) project cannot be larger than will fit on one DVD. Most iMovie projects are larger, of course. For them, the File > Burn project to disk command cannot be used.
    • Software exists, however, that lets us back up an iMovie (or iDVD) project across multiple DVDs. These include Toast and Retrospect, the pre-eminent Mac backup software.
    • iMovie projects stored on DVDs have one huge disadvantage, however. We must copy the project back to the hard drive to open it in iMovie. iMovie doesn't let us open a project stored on a DVD, for Movie can't write to the disc. (The DVD is, by definition, a locked medium.)
Note too that if the backup DVD is created by Retrospect, Retrospect is required to copy it back to the hard disk. (Sorry, I'm not familiar with Toast.)
    • The Finder's File > New Burn Folder lets us burn computer files to a DVD as files. It can copy disk images, zip files and any other kind of computer files and folders to the DVD. Used in this way, the DVD functions like a small hard disk. It can't burn across multiple DVDs.
    • A DVD containing data files is different from the DVD iDVD normally creates for us. DVD Normally creates TV-playable DVDs, not data-file DVDs. For these, iDVD encodes the video of our iMovie projects as MEPG-2 video, the language a DVD player understands. No computer data files are involved, at least not files a computer normally understands.
    • The iDVD command File > Archive Project serves a different purpose than the archive of an iMovie project. Yes, it backs up the iDVD project too, but we usually make it for a different reason.
The iDVD project has no video or audio of its own, just a link to the reference movie iMovie stores inside the iMovie project. If we want to be able to burn a DVD of the current iMovie project some time later, or burn a DVD after the iMovie project has been discarded, we will have a problem. The source material may be gone. The iDVD archive solves this problem by storing a copy of the source material inside its archive.
So If you want to preserve an iDVD project as it exists today you can tell iDVD to create an archive the includes all the necessary source material from the iMovie project. Now the source material will be "static". We can open the archive sometime later, edit the DVD menus if we want, and burn another DVD.
    • iDVD also offers the File > Save As Disk image. This command is not associated with archiving. This command is almost the same as burning a DVD, but it "burns" the encoded material as a disk image file instead of a physical DVD.
The disk image can be played in DVD Player on our Macs, and we can use Disk Utility to burn a DVD of the disk image.
"Burning" a disk image from iDVD is a good way to check the encoding by iDVD. If the disk image "burns" okay, the physical DVD we burn with Disk Utility will probably be okay too.
    • As you suggested, the best solution may be an external hard drive. It's not only the easiest to use, it lets us access the iMovie project whenever we want.
    • Much of what I've said is associated with routine backups, so I want to say a word about those. We always need backups of our important projects. At the very least, we need to keep a copy on a separate drive. Drives fail.
Experts say that we need to back up our computers daily, and maintain three backup copies, called backup sets. We need two backup sets that we alternate every day or so, both stored on site. And a third backup set stored off-site. (Off-site because our beach house may burn down and the high tides caused by global warming may carry the ashes out to sea.)
Retrospect does an incremental backup for me each night, backing up all the Macs in the house. The on-site backup not being used by Retrospect is stored in a fireproof data safe — a fireproof paper safe isn't cool enough. The third backup set is stored in a safe deposit box at a bank. I rotate the bank set every month or so with one of the two in-house backup sets. The two in-house backup sets are rotated every few days.
For backup media I use "bare" drives connected to a Firewire "dock", like this ComboDock. The drives snap on/off in seconds.
    http://www.wiebetech.com/products/ComboDock.php
    • Some on-line retailers include Retrospect with the drives they sell.
    Hope something here is useful.

  • Rewinding or FFWDing Media Center TV sometimes results in TV Window blacking and loss of audio

I recently reinstalled Win 7 SP 1 Home Premium 32 bit and I'm still experiencing the subject problem that prompted the reinstall.
I'll be watching live TV with no problems and then decide to rewind a bit by clicking the rewind button a few times (the more times I click and the more rapidly, the more likely this problem seems to occurr) and the Media Center TV screen/window will sometimes
'smoothly' go black also sometimes with a loss of audio. The timer shows TV playback is still occurring and then after a while - 5 ~20 seconds, the picture and then eventually, the sound, return. This occurs both in Windowed or Full Screen TV viewing.
    My system details are:
Intel DG45ID Motherboard with E8500 Core2 Duo 3.16 GHz CPU and using onboard G45 Graphics
    4 GB (2 x 2GB) of compatible Corsair DDR2 RAM
Compro Technology E900F TV Card (receiving just DVB-T UK Freeview broadcasts)
4 x 1 TB Samsung HDDs configured in a 2 TB RAID 0+1 Array using native board functionality
All the latest drivers are installed correctly - chipset, TV card, Grahics, Audio and Intel RST as well as ME software etc. I've also tested with both Playready installed and not installed - with no difference.
Does anyone know whats causing this or workarounds to cure it please?

    Hello Niki,
Many thanks for your reply and that very interesting link. I've reviewed that workaround more deeply and it seems to stop the screen blacking/loss of audio problem but according to one of the threads that it originated from here:
http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_other-tv/losing-soundpicture-when-rewinding-live-tv-in/6e0f575a-4bed-4248-9cac-a6392b7b6d16 , the 'fix' also disables MHEG 5 Functionality, which for me, as a UK user of the BBC Red Button and other
interactive services, is NOT acceptable. The BBC have recently ceased their Ceefax (Teletext) service which has been superceded by the red button MHEG-5 based service so bug free MHEG-5 is our only option.
I see that the other thread I linked to has had no official comment from Microsoft - as a Moderator here (clearly someone with connections/influence at Microsoft to at least some degree) will you kindly pass this up the chain to be fully and properly addressed
please Niki? Otherwise maybe someone who is responsible for this field at Microsoft would care to comment here (and over on that other Microsoft thread that's been awaiting their input for some time)??
    I realise that
MHEG 5 , despite being an international standard, isn't utilised all around the world (notably not in the USA) so I hope this doesn't affect Microsofts prioritisation of providing a proper fix to this issue.

  • Keynote to iDVD: loss of audio in slide show

I have made a slide show on Keynote with music from iTunes. I export it to iDVD and it works fine from the computer while in iDVD. When I burn the disc, the music from the Keynote slideshow is missing although musc that I have added to menus does play. I want to use the Keynote slideshow and not transfer it to iMovie then iDVD because of loss of quality. I do not want to use the slideshow from iDVD because Keynote provides more opprtunities for effects in the slide show as well as clearer text. I think the problem has something to do with the fact that when I export, on my desktop is a copy of the slideshow AND a copy of the soundtrack.mov. How can I get them together? THANKS!!!

Thanks for the help but I faced the same problem as others with iMovie. Also I am trying to avoid the use of iMovie because the final product, a QT from iMovie, is not as clear visually as an import from Keynote - graphics are a lot muddier. I would have to agree that, as much as I LOVE Keynote, the inability to simply export a slide show with audio intact certainly is a problem with Keynote.
    Also disappointed,
    Jim
(Please excuse cross postings. I am just getting used to this Discussion format.)

  • Keynote to iDVD: loss of audio in slide show and other probs

When I export my keynote straight to iDVD, the Keynotes play while in the working program. After I save an reopen the program to play, the Keynotes eventually crash iDVD. If I export them from Keynote as QT, although iI have the separate Soundtrack and .mov, when I import into iDVD the soundtrack plays while in the working iDVD program but after burning I lose the sound. I have the import audio checked. Any thoughts???
    Peace,
    Jim

I have had exaxctly the same problem and Apple Tech support has been unable to resolve the issue for me.
An additional problem is that although I have a perfectly timed presentation in Keynote with slide changes co-oresponding to the music whenever I try to burn it either in Ouicktime or iDVD both applications change the timing and Apple Tech Support has not provided a solution to the problem.
One thing that I discovered after trial and error is that you need to have all images in ther same format (jpeg or tiff) in order to avoid skips or gaps in the music. Apple support seemed unaware that that problem exists.
In many respects Keynote offers superior Flips, Page Turns,
Fades, etc to iMovie but it doesn't seem possible to retain them as well as the background music in any burning software that I have discovered.

  • Loss of Audio on one movie

Hi there. I searched before posting (sure wish the ones wanting to know how to convert a dvd would). I use DVD decrypter and videora iPod converter. For the most part they work very well for me.
But the movie madagascar losses it's audio somewhere. I've tried it 3 times with no prevail. Any suggestions???
    Thanks, Chuck.

    John E,
    Welcome to the iDVD forum.
When you play the Disk Image (not the actual DVD) by mounting the image and using the Apple DVD player, do you see the same behavior?

  • No audio on idvd burned disc- sound plays on TV fine but not on macbook DVD player

First time posting, so please excuse any naivete
Hi there, I'm having the opposite problem of many of the questions I've read on here- the audio on my burned disc won't play on my computer but is fine on my TV.  I am running the latest version of idvd on a 2008 macbook. The music for the menu is a .m4a file (?) imported from itunes and the movie is an imported project from imovie.  Both play fine in idvd preview and I have burned discs of this project before with no problems.  This time  I burned one disc through idvd, discovered the missing audio, deleted the encoded assets and re- encoded before  saving the disk image and burning another dvd through disk utility. Both dvds are having this problem .  I checked sound on my system preferences, it's on- though I can't find the "main audio" that was mentioned in another thread.  Maybe I don't have enough space on my startup disk?  I've been trashing some things to free up space, but I'm not sure where to check to see how much space I have.
I'm sending these dvds out as part of job applications so they need to be able to play right on whatever the reviewer uses (mac, pc, tv etc.)- is there a way to ensure it will work universally?
    Thanks!

Ok.  This is embarrassing.  Just saw that the sound was turned down on my DVD player on my macbook though not on my computer.  Sometimes the simplest explanation is the best.

  • Intermittent Sound Loss (SFX & Audio)

Hi gang, I have an odd problem with intermittent sound loss (button SFX + audio) on my brand new ATV2 (HDMI to HDMI on a 2 year old Phillips 42"). The picture is great, but the audio only works about 50% of the time. (?!) I'm totally stumped. I did some troubleshooting. Restart, Reset, Restore. No dice. I swapped the cable and tried different HDMI ports — to no avail. I also spent an hour on the phone with an Apple tech. We did everything again and we turned off Dolby, etc. No dice. He suggested I bring the device into the Apple store, and they swapped it out for me. But I'm having the same problem with the new device — and AGAIN only 50% of the time. It seems totally arbitrary. Very frustrating. Any ideas would be appreciated.

Did you try restarting your TV, the problem may be there.
(I have a tv that starts to drop audio occasionally, although a restart of the tv will resolve the matter it does return perhaps weeks/months later)
