Loss of background audio

Slideshow working fine with background audio. Added a 6sec
silence at the start, or so I thought. All of the audio
disappeared, even mouse clicks. When I look at the Edit Audio
window, my sound is there as it was before. No silence has been
added but it will not make a sound.
Tried closing file and Captivate and reopening - no change
Tried deleting and reimporting audio - no change.
What's up and is there anything short of a restore of my
backup that will get me out of this?
Thanks

Don't know why I lost my audio but I noticed that all
projects had lost audio on the replay, not just the project I was
working on. I did a restart and got all my audio back (phew!). I'm
going to pass on the silence thing at the beginning - I can live
without it in view of the problems is seems to cause.

  • How do I stop background audio clips from playing while browsing sites?

Firefox is my default browser. I use Google chrome and Internet explorer sessions for background monitoring news site sessions at the same time. I have no problem with the other two browsers. While surfing with Firefox I get unwanted background audio clips that start and run by themselves. I cannot stop them. They run and then stop by their self. They are some sort of adware and I cannot find the source to remove them. I also get video clips sometimes that I can stop that run around the outside of the active window I am viewing. These is very annoying. I have uninstalled Firefox and reinstalled it but the problem does not go away. I antivirus software, registry change protection software, and registry cleaning software. The problem is with the default browser.
How can I locate and remove the plugin, addin or service that starts this annoying activity. I have no special unwanted toolbars installed. There is nothing in the installed programs list in the control that shouldn't be there.

I had a similar problem to this. EVERYTIME i started firefox, it would play an audio clip from a flash game i played a while ago, it would last 5 minutes before finishing. i tried the starting in safe mode, but that didn't work for me, so after that i then tried RESETTING firefox, and that has worked for me.
On another side of startup problems, firefox would also open up a new tab on startup, usually 22find.com or do-search.com. i know these are caused by a virus and have since deleted it, but it had changed a preference file in firefox causing it to continue to open on startup.
Having since done the firefox reset, i haven't had either of these problems AT ALL! would recommend this as a possible fix for you friend before trying any lengthy troubleshooting process or downloading any extra anti-virus removal software.

  • Can no longer preview background audio accurately, efficiently in Captivate 7

I'm currently using Captivate 7.0.1.237 on a Mac running OS X Yosemite 10.10.1.
As far as I know, Captivate has never allowed for Background audio previews to work anywhere but in (Preview > Project) and (Preview > web [or] HTML5). Those aren't ideal, but I used to have no problem fast-forwarding the preview to see what adjustments needed to be made to sync background audio voiceovers to slide content. (FYI - I can't record to each slide because I'm combining recordings with static slides. Tried, failed.)
Since upgrading to Yosemite, I have been unable to scrub (rewind/fast forward) in any of the preview modes without losing the synchronization of the voiceover audio I have in the background. Previewing in web browsers doesn't even work at all any more. {Error: This webpage is not available.} The video will rewind/fast forward, but the audio doesn't recognize the timestamp.
So, this means that now the only method I have for timing audio to video is previewing the entire project (Preview > Project). I am working on developing a set of 15 different videos (eventually MP4 output, so no interactions), each of which is between 3-8 minutes in length. Each project is between 25-60 slides. Say I create content on the last slide (which might be 5-10 objects per slide,) I have to preview the entire 8-minute video without pausing, rewinding, or fast-forwarding - every. single. time. I add. or change. some content.
This problem has led to me working 10+ hours in a day attempting to sync audio to animations for just one project. This is totally unacceptable.
PLEASE HELP!!! I've searched high and low through the documentation, FAQs, and message boards and I'm coming up empty.

Thanks for considering the problem! Unfortunately, as I stated above, the voiceover needs to be a background audio file that plays throughout the project. It's not possible to record audio-per-slide because of the structure of the video - and because I do a lot of editing of the audio files for 8-minute videos.

  • Ipad background audio from video when multitasking

    Hello.
This is a request if people can either feedback On their present experience or try this out themselves first and feedback.
I have an ipad 1. When ever i try to get background audio to play from video when multitasking in another app, eg safari, from any video app including plex, airvideo, vlc,  and the original apple video app. All that occurs is that the icon changes to the ipod and a random song is played from my music library instead of the audio from the video i was watching. This does not matter if the video file is streamed or stored on the ipad itself.
There is one slight and occasional proviso to this, as at times if the video file is tagged in itunes as 'music' rather than 'movie' or 'tv show' etc then it does on occasions work, and on occasions youtube videos will play in the background. But most of the time these aspects also dont function int he background with the ipod icon instantly replacing which ever video app icon i tried to use in the background.
Now my sons iphone 4 manages to function correctly and always plays video in the background when multitasking.
I have asked this question before on this forum, with no response, so booked a visit to my local genius bar. Where they checked my ipad and agreed it wasnt working as ios should, then interestingly they attempted to do the same on an ipad 2 and it failed to work in exactly the same way.  Their response was that this was obviously a fault of the ipad ios, possibly due to the ipad having a separate video app where as the iphone has video within its generic ipod app.
I did the usual by informing apple via of this bug through the feedback system, and requested that the genius bar do the same. But having thought about this, and failed to see any other users on this forum who are also puzzled at this lack of what i think is an important function, i wonder if this means that i am the only one who likes to listen to video when im browsing, so dont need it, or wether everyone elses ipads function as ios should do, and for some reason both my ipad, and the ipad 2 tested in the shop are at fault.
So can i request if others reading this can have a go to see if their ipad will play background audio from video when multitasking, or if the same problem occurs.
Thanks very much this is really appreciated.

Oops clicked the wrong button, I meant to click a 'helpful answer' as it  hard to have a correct answer to such a question.
    But thanks for the replies.
It looks like this is a bug in ios solely for the ipad, as it does work fine on the iphone  although wonder which way the ipod touch will perform. interestingly it looks like i may also be in the minority of wishing to listen to video files as I browse:)
Which probably means apple may never get around to sorting it, as no one else uses the function.
Anyway thanks for the replies, if any one else wants to see the bug have a go and comment, i find it funny how I seem to be the only one to have found it to date.

  • Background audio not adjusting after project is paused when published to Flash. Any suggestions?

    Hello,
    I'm working with:
    Captivate 6
    Mac OS X 10.8.2
Flash Player is updated to most recent version
My project contains background audio music set to adjust to slide audio. When I publish to Flash the background audio adjusts appropriately until I pause the video and then resume. Once the video resumes the background audio no longer adjusts to slide audio. So basically anytime a learner pauses the video and then resumes the background audio drowns the slide audio out. I've tried this with multiple projects and get the same result.
When I publish in HTML5 it works fine. But I cannot use HTML5 because my project contains necessary rollover objects and captions, slide transitions, text animations, and other effects that HTML5 does not support.
I've to remove and re-add the background audio, uninstall and reinstall Captivate, adjust the background and slide volume levels, uncheck loop audio, and pretty much any audio settings and publish settings I can think of.
Can someone else with the same OS and Captivate version try and see if they encounter the same problem when publishing to Flash?
Or does anyone have a solution/workaround?
    Thank You!

    Hi folks
Sorry, I don't have a fix to offer. Only an observation. I'm rather surprised to see this many folks actually USING background audio. I say that, because I have facilitated hundreds of Captivate classes over the years. And there are lots of folks with Instructional Design background that attend. And in so many of the classes, when we reach the audio section and we cover how to use Background Audio, the same comment is made.
The comment is that generally speaking, it is their opinion that from an Instructional Design standpoint, background music is a "no no" and should be avoided because it detracts from the learning objective.

  • Background audio too loud in QuickTime Pro export

I created a movie in QT Pro 7.6.6 with a background audio track and voiceover for each photo. Not sure what work flow you were using to change relative volume of individual tracks but suspect any export action would automatically force a "reset" of the audio levels/settings before flattening during export. A better approach would likely be to create the file using GarageBand which allows you to set relative audio levels for each audio track independently and then set the final level of the "master" audio track separately. You can also split and duck individual audio tracks and/or "rubberband" the master track if desired before the final export.

  • Background audio increases after paused or interaction is used

I'm using Captivate 7.  I have background audio playing.  Adjust background audio volume on slides with audio is set to 15%.  When played, the .swf file sounds great, until you pause it, or an interaction is used (glossary).  When it starts again, it plays at full volume over powering the narrative.  Any suggestions?

Is it all browsers that you are having problems with, or is just Safari (and I assume that your last post means that other apps are ok) ?
If only Safari then try clearing its cache : Settings > Safari > Clear History And Website Data (Clear Cookies And Data on iOS 5, 6, 7 and also Clear History)
Close Safari via the iPad's taskbar (I'm assuming that your iPad is on iOS 7+) : double-click the home button to open the taskbar and then swipe or drag the Safari app's 'screen' up and off the top of the screen to close it, and click the home button to close the taskbar.
And do a soft-reset : press and hold both the sleep and home buttons for about 10 to 15 seconds (ignore the red slider), after which the Apple logo should appear - you won't lose any content, it's the iPad equivalent of a reboot.
And then retry playing the videos.

  • AIR 3.3 stop background audio when another audio app is launched?

I currently have audio playing in the background in my AIR app for iOS. My problem is that when you have the audio playing in the background, and you launch any other audio app on your phone...the audio starts to overlap because my AIR app does not stop playing audio. So when you open Pandora, Music, IHeartRadio, Youtube, etc...the AIR audio still plays.
Is this fixed in the AIR 3.3 release with the <executeInBackground> tag? Or is there another way for my AIR app to recognize that another audio app is launching? All the afformentioned apps play nice together like that.
I would think this would be grounds for not being accepted in the iTunes store.
I really need some answers because my app is set to go live soon and this will be a game changer if I cannot fix it. I will probably have to try and create it in objective C
Thanks in advance for any help!
-- I posted this in the wrong place last night and meant to post it here. --

Thanks a lot for the reply!
It is very unfortunate that there is not a solution to this. It seems that building an audio/music player app via AIR for iOS is not really feasable due to this limitation.
I would think the use case would be larger for my case because typically, when you launch a game on your iPhone, the background audio application stops the music. Or maybe just have a listener that could detect if another app was launched at least, so you could stop your AIR audio by choice. That would be great.
Do you see this as grounds for an audio app being rejected? If the background audio does not stop unless you physically go back into the app and pause it?
    Thanks.

  • Captive Background Audio  - Not converting in C7 Upgrade

    Problem 1:
When upgrading files to Captivate 7 I am having a problem with my background audio.
I have music that plays during the training.  (Background audio)
On slides with narration the background audio is set to play at 10% volume.  Some of these slides have narration AND videos.
IF there is a video included the background audio reverts to the full volume.
I have trouble shot the heck out of this issue and nothing I do seems to work.  Has anyone else had this problem?  My trainings were created in C5.5.  I have tried upgrading them to C6 and C7, the problem exists with both.
    Problem 2:
The reason I upgraded was because C5.5 had a reporting bug.  My LMS requires publishing in 2004 and when users would fail the course it would still say that they had completed it (even thought the completion status was set to pass/fail.)  Captivate Support told me this was a bug in 5.5 and the only solution was to upgrade.  The upgrade fixed this issue but left me a bigger one.
I need a solution for one of these issues.  I don't care which, I just need to be able to use my trainings in my new LMS.
Between the two problems I have had open issues with Adobe support for 2 months.  They tell me they are working on it, it's being escalated, but everytime I call to check in there is some excuse why they have no info for me.  I am running out of time.  I need to Launch my new LMS so I am hoping some savy users out there can HELP ME!!

    Hi,
Problem1 is not reproducible at our end.
After upgrading from Cp5.5 to Cp7, value of background audio is retained properly.
Are you seeing this issue in all the upgraded projects ?
If issue is specific to few projects only, can you please upload your Cp5.5 project file to acrobat.com and send me the download link at [email protected]

  • Button for background audio toggle? (C6)

    Hi everybody,
is it possible to insert a button that toggles ONLY the background audio, which is set for the complete presentation?
If you are listening to a web based presentation the backgorund music might be annoying for some listeners and they just want to hear the speaker's voice. So it would be helpful to switch background audio to off by clicking a button.
    How is that possible?
    Thanks in advance
    martin

To my knowledge this is not possible with default Advanced Actions and Variables in Captivate 6.  It would require custom programming in AS3 (and JavaScript if you were intending to output to HTML5).

  • Background Audio not playing in Captivate 4

I imported a background audio track to my Adobe Captivate project, and I can see it in the background audio menu, however, when I preview or publish the project, it does not play.  When I am in the import menu, it plays, but only there.  I have done this many times before without issue.  Any ideas?

    Hi there
I am not sure if I understood the problem correctly. I tried to add a background audio to a test project and it worked fine for me in preview and publish.
When you say "I can see it in the background audio menu" are you meaning the following?
Audio->Background Audio... ==> Audio Background Dialog opens up and the audio track is shown properly. In library, the use count of this audio is non-zero and when you right click on the audio and select usage, "Project" is listed as one of the users.
When you say "When I am in the import menu, it plays, but only there", which import menu are you taking about?
Can't the audio be played from the library preview or from audio properties dialog or from Audio Background dialog?
Do you have this problem with any project that you are creating or is the problem happening in one particular project only? If it is only a particular project, can you share the CP project?
    Cheers

  • Background audio after installing Flash Player 11

After installing Flash Player 11, I am getting unwanted background audio when I am connected to the Internet. Even though I may not be on any site at all, i still get info-mercials playing on my system, or sometimes the flash player fails. I am using Windows IE9 on a 64-bit system. Everything is enabled in my settings. Why are they releasing this product early when there is a known bug in it?

Sounds like you might have malware on your system.  I'd recommend running Malwarebytes to make sure everything checks out.

  • Delay start of background audio?

Is there any way to delay the start of the background audio track?
I'd like the video to start first, silently, and have the audio come in a second or two later. I can pin the audio to the first still image but if I later move that to rearrange the order of the first slide then I have to fix up the audio...
If I could delay the start of the background audio I'd avoid that problem.

I still want it to run automatically but be able to adjust the start time. Can anyone explain how to use "starttime", here is the explanation, but I don't understand:
    STARTTIME=time (optional...requires QuickTime 4)
The STARTTIME attribute defines the first frame of the movie. STARTTIME can be any time within the length of the movie. By default, STARTTIME is the first frame of the movie (or 00:00:00). This attribute takes a time value in the form Hours:Minutes:Seconds:Frames (30ths). The frames component can be specified as a fixed point number so that more specific times can be specified for instance 3:30:22.5 means 3 minutes, 30 seconds and 22.5 frames.
Sounds like what I need but can't get it to work, what is "frames"? thanks

  • Captivate 7: Need help to diagnose background audio which increases suddenly mid-video.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6hQ1GJpVQNU
I inserted a music file into the video background.  At 1:39 you'll hear the background music suddenly jump up in volume.
When I imported the audio file to the background, I edited it by adjusting the volume.  The volume was reduced appropriately in the preview, however, as you can hear, it jumps significantly.  There is nothing I can see either in the audio file - or in the other elements that may cause this.
I've tried deleting and re-importing and changing the volume using the  threshhold/ ratio settings (versus just the volume bar), but nothing changes that jump.
    Any help is appreciated!

  • Captivate 7 HTML5 background audio not playing

The issue seems to be related to a slide with background audio that plays after a Random Question slide. I can see the playhead moving but the audio is muted. It seems to be a bug with Captivate 7.
To duplicate the issue, create a new Captivate 7 project, insert 2 Blank slides, each with Background Audio. Create a question pool with 2 multiple choice questions and insert a Random Question slide between the 2 previously created Blank slides. When playing in HTML5 from the start (F11), the second background audio does play (is muted).
I'm using Chrome in Windows 7.

    Sreekanth,
I think I've found a workaround for this issue. I’m finding when audio is placed on each question slide in the pool, the audio on subsequent slides play. The audio on the question slides has to be different from audio used on non-question slides (but all the question slides can use the same audio). Also, the question slide audio can be a very short and silent piece of audio, so nothing is heard on the question slide itself.
