You can recover the data from your user folder provided you have only sync'ed once with the PC when you discovered the data missing. When you sync to the PC there are files created for each PIM category in your user folder. For Example; datebook.dat or datebook (Depending on the version of Palm Desktop) and datebook.bak. Using 6.2 the file names are .mdb and mdb.bak. For 6.2, the files are located in the username folder in PalmOSdesktop in my documents.
The files are named .dat and .bak. When you sync, the current data is stored in .dat. The next time you sync the data in the .dat file is copied to the .bak file. You can rename the .dat to .old. then rename the .bak to .dat. If the data in the .bak file is intact, it will now be in palm desktop when you reopen Palm desktop. I have included a link to show you how to find the userfolder on the PC.
    http://www.palm.com/cgi-bin/cso_kbURL.cgi?ID=26674
    Here is another link regarding data loss;

The best way to backup your data is to use the export feature in Palm Desktop. Make a new folder on the PC desktop named Palm Desktop Backup data. Next, select the category you want to export. You will get a window that asks where you want to save the file, save in the folder created on the desktop. There is a button that allows you to select currently selected record or all, select all. If you don't select all, then only the record highlighted is exported. You will then need to name the file for export, I suggest the name of the category, eg: datebook (With current date). Do this for all critical data in each category. With the data exported to the folder on the PC desktop, you can save this data to a flash drive, external hard drive or a CD-RW. With this method you will have your data in a seperate place than Palm desktop and the device. If you "Lose" data again, you can import the data back into palm desktop.
Make sure that when you make changes in palm desktop or the device to export the data to the folder created for the backup.
    Here is a link for other options for backing up your data;

    To change the hotsync conduits to handheld overwrites desktop;
Click the HotSync icon in the Windows Taskbar and select Settings.
    Click the link for Applications
Highlight the conduit you want to change and select change.
Set the conduit to handheld overwrites desktop.
Change each conduit to handheld overwrites desktop.
Sync the PDA to the PC.
If you do not check the "set as default" box the changes will only last for 1 sync. If you sync and have a problem with the sync, make sure you go back and change the conduits to handheld overwrites desktop.  You can set the conduits to "set as default" while you are trying to get the data on the PC. After you have the data on the PC, change the conduits to sync the files.

  • Nokia 5130 loss of contact detail

I bought a nokia 5130. Under settings -> security, I set the security level to 'phone'. I then added my contacts. I also added each contact's birthday as additional contact detail. After switching off the phone and switching it on again, I still had my contacts but every contact's birthday was gone. After some time a discovered that by setting the security level to 'none', adding the birthdays again, switching off the phone and on again, the contacts were still there and every thing was allright. This felt like a bug in the firmware. So I would like other people to confirm this. My wife also bought the phone and had exactly the same problem. The phones are running the latest firmware.

i have a similar problem in 6.94 firmware..i bought a new 5130 blue this is my second 5130..i updated the firmware to 6.94 and copy to phonebook to my telephone memory and it restarts automatically like resetting in music player..and all the attached ringtones were lost..then i put them in sim card memory turn off the phone manually and nothing changed..attaches ringtones were there..what is that? a bug of 6.94 or something else?

  • Loss my contacts, photos while I updating ios5

I lost my contacts on my iphone 4, while I update ios 5. how to I recover it. I recover my apps but not contacts. HELP!

Ok, I'm not sure if the specifics of your problem are similar to mine but I was finally able to get my contacts on my phone this afternoon. I had a 3GS that I'm giving to my daughter to use as an iPod which I backed up Thursday knowing I'd get the 4S in the mail the next day. At that time I also updated my iTunes and updated to iOS5. So going into the 4S I thought I had done the "right" things but I'm not sure if it was my mistake or if its a problem with the technology.
Thursday--Updated 3GS to iOS5, iTunes and backed up the 3gs.
Friday--Got the 4S, system was busy so I went to the ATT store and had them activate it. When I got home I hooked up the 4S and got the message to register as a new iPhone then got the message to restore from backup. It went through the whole thing and then gave me a message that it couldn't complete it because that backup was not compatible with the iPhone 4S. I checked and nothing was on the new phone, just my name and my phone number. Hooked up the 3GS because I thought that the backup maybe didn't finalize so I was going to back it up again since everything I needed was still on that phone. That was a mistake, I accidentally reformatted that and now I had NO information on either phone.
Saturday--Searched online and tried numerous things to no avail. I also created an account for the Cloud so I could store contact info that way. I had all my contacts in Outlook (it syncs to Outlook but I've never used it) so I thought I could maybe get them on the Cloud somehow or re-sync the 3GS to get them on there and then back it up again. After that I did LOTS of other things and got to the point where nothing was on the Cloud and my 3GS was able to accept the sync with Outlook. I read something in the forums about messing around with the Cloud and that was finally what worked. In the 3GS, I went to settings and on the Cloud section I turned off the Cloud for mail, contacts, calendars and notes because those were most important to me). Nothing showed up on the 3GS or on the Cloud and I left the settings with those 4 categories set for "no". The 4S was hooked up to the computer and I did the same thing in the settings menu and nothing showed up on either phone or the Cloud. I did it one more time with the 3GS and my contacts were restored! I also left those settings as "no" for the 4S so when I got the info back on the 3GS I immediately changed the settings on the 4S to "yes" and ALL my contacts were there. My voicemail gretting, saved voicemails as well as the call history were all there!
Not sure if that will work for your situation but hopefully someone will see this by Googling and get their problem fixed.

  • Updated iPhone, caused Crashing and loss of contacts

    Hello
I recently updated my iPhone which is using iOS 7. I noticed after the update, that when I went to messages, most of my chats were missing. Additionally, some contacts are availible in messages, but are not availible in Contacts. My phone is also crashing almost all the time. Many of the chats had phone numbers which I had not stored in my contacts, and I now have no way of getting them back. I am using an iPhone 4.
    Can anybody help me?

Although contacts are included with the iPhone's backup (so is a bunch of other data), contacts are designed to be synced with a supported address book application on your computer. Not a good idea to depend on the iPhone's backup, the iPhone, or any cell phone alone for this data, which can be lost or stolen.
If your husband is not syncing contacts with a supported address book application on the computer - with a Mac this can be with the Address Book application, and if the contacts were not restored with the backup, kiss the contacts goodbye.

  • Sync 2 iphones not risking a loss of contacts

Dear All,  in my outlook I have almost no contacts, all numbers I stored on Iphone. How can I transfer all contacts to a new Iphone so that the contacts from the old Iphone will not be ereased or overwritten by contacts from outlook. Thxs

Yes, but unfortunately not a way to correct it. When syncing an iPhone with a computer that has no contacts, you must add at least one contact to the computer. Then, you are prompted with an option to replace or merge, and you need to choose merge. In that way, the contacts are transferred from the iPhone to the computer. The same is true for calendar events - you need to create one on the computer first, even if you delete it later.
The underlying assumption is that if it's a 'first sync' the master copy is on the computer, since I suspect most people would find that it takes a lot less effort to enter a bunch on contacts on the computer, using the standard keyboard, than on the iPhone.

  • Yikes. Is RESTORING my iPhone the best fix for my loss of contacts after downloading IOS6?

    Hello All,
I downloaded IOS6 onto my iPhone (I think it's a 4 or 4S) and shortly thereafter noticed that all my contacts are GONE. This seems to be a common issue as I'm seeing it repeatedly in the threads. The downside is, I don't remember ever doing a backup (it's possible I did, and just don't remember, but it's also just as possible [and more likely] that I haven't). So, I'm now backing up my iPhone onto iTunes and am contemplating a RESTORE. Might this help? Or is it a useless endeavor which may cause more problems?
By the way, I went to iCloud.com and looked at which contacts are there and they're not there either, so not an option to try to pull them back over.
    This kinda *****!

The deal with syncing contacts is that you either do so through iTunes, with a supported application on your computer, or over-the-air with something like iCloud. You don't do both at the same time. Doing so will create duplicates & a mess. As to whether one is better than the other, that's up to you. Over-the-air keeps everything in sync across all your devices, automatically, but relies on the stability of the iCloud servers. With your computer, requires that you regularly sync, to keep stuff updated, and that you maintain a current backup.

  • I loss my contact from icloud

if I lost my contacts from icloud and from iphon.. can i recover it?

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
First check if you see them at...
    iCloud.com
To restore from a back up made through iTunes, follow these instructions.
To restore from a back up made through iCloud, try the following:
The difficulty in restoring iCloud data from a back up is that the back up is older than the current version on iCloud and anything that is restored gets removed again when an iCloud sync occurs.
Ensure the device is connected to your local network.
Start the restore from iCloud back up.
Allow the devices settings to restore (watch for the confirmation of completion).
As the apps begin to restore pull the connection to your router WAN port (the one that goes to the telephone point).
Wait for the time out confirmation.
Navigate to settings > iCloud and turn off contact syncing (keep contacts when prompted).
Reconnect the router to the internet and let the restore process complete.
Delete any iCloud contacts from iCloud.com on a computer.
Navigate to settings > iCloud and turn on contact syncing (merge contacts when prompted).
May I suggest that you carry out a back up to iTunes before you try anything, that way should things become even worse, you can at least restore back to where you are now.

  • IPhone loss of contacts

Hi - I am overseas and have turned off the push function on the iphone which has in turn deleted all my contacts etc. How do I save them to the iphone so that when I turn off the push option I have them saved to the actual phone? Thanks

I will try when i get home to sync with laptop.
The old computer won't recognize 5.0...I was told by ATT employee to restore to factory and then sync with old computer with old itunes to see if it would use my latest backup there for contacts/pictures.
I'm going to try the laptop first and then possibly go to old computer.

  • HT204150 loss of contacts

My husband and i share and icloud account.  he thought is he removed my numbers from his phone he would not have to scroll so much to see his.  we both use our phones for business purposes.  once he did this all of my contacts were removed from my phone.  i have checked the cloud online and all the numbers are in fact gone.  how do i retriecve all of the deleted numbers?

If you share one account it doesn't matter how many phones you have. There is still only one account and both your information is in it.
1 person 1 account is how iCloud works.
Unless you have a backup you can restore you can't retrieve the contacts.

  • Loss of contact

Is it possible to recover a contact that was inadvertantly deleled?

    hello
I have assumed thta when you make a change on an apple device that the change or entry is automatically entered in icloud
If that is the case, is there a wayh to go back in icloud to a prior date?
    Thanks

  • IPhone5 keeps crashing and causes loss of contact info in phone library and apps, iPhone5 keeps crashing and causes loss of contact info in phone library and apps

Since iOS7 update, my iPhone screen will freeze, the apps lose full function, battery life is greatly reduced, and my contact info will be lost after I power down. Is there an update or solution to solidify the backup I conduct or is there a way I can keep my contacts on my phone? I do not want to continue to try figuring out who my messages and calls are from. Also, my music player has seen many malfunctions and the radio is so inconsistent that I don't use it.

  • Wireless loss of contact

My iMac11,3 is connected to a wireless network built with Dlink's DIR-615. It looses the connection very often. However if I start the network diagnostics and keep it running the connection gets never lost.
Has anybody run into this? Can anybody explain why this should be happening?

I've just switched from a Cisco Linksys WAG452+ to a BT HomeHub3, same problem. I would consider the router if it was giving poor results with the other computers in the flat, but they all seem to get great signal and speed test results. I wondered whether the imac, being so new, had a different wireless setup? Maybe a faulty wireless card?
