Loss of functionality in 5.0.1

It seems that in the "new" version of iCal that came with Lion (iCal v5.0.1) they have made it "pretty" and taken away functionality.
Specifically -
No calendar pane on the left hand side
No details pane on the right hand side
No mini month view on the left hand side
Is this correct or am I simply not looking hard enough for the buttons to re-activate these functions?
Is it true that I cannot go back and run the fully functional v3 of iCal in the Lion OS?

To clarify, the Spotlight function works only once after the phone start up. Any further attempts to enter a new search gets zero response. I can shut down/restart/use once and so on. I have seen similar posts in other forums so I am not the only one by far. Also seen suggestions that you remove Mail from the Spotlight Settings - great idea, except that's where much of my targeted info lies. Like someone telling you to run your four-cylinder car on one cylinder.

Loss of functionality in Blackberry Passport

I recently purchased Passport fully confident that it would at least have the functionality of earlier blackberry phone software. I was wondering if it is only I who cannot find these functions, or if not there is Blackberry looking to address these loss of functionality.

Loss of Functionality-Embedded documents

I am using Acrobat 11.0. In previous versions, I could create a PDF version with embedded docs that opened when you clicked them. It appears that I have lost this fuctionality in Acrobat 11. Is there a setting I need to edit or truly a loss of functionality? Somer of our documents need to be embedded because of access to certain sites not being available.

Have you tried using attachments?
   - View – Show/Hide – Navigation Panes – Attachments
   - Click the Add a new attachment icon.
   - View – Tools – Content Editing and select the Add or Edit Link icon.
   - Select the text/image to create the link.
   - In the Create Link dialog box, select Go to a page view and click Next.
   - In the Attachments pane, double-click the attached file and click on Set Link.

Loss of functionality / Can't open iPhotos in Photoshop Elements 9

Recently installed iPhoto 11 and Photoshop Elements 9 (great app). I have noticed an iPhoto functionality loss: in iPhoto '09, Prefs --> General --> Double click photo: --> edits photo vs magnifies photo. No matter which one you picked, double click would open the photo magnified, either with either the edit tools already open, or the edit tools one click away. PSE was easiy accessible from right-click "Open in external editor." I had the best of both worlds, it was easy to go back and forth, using iPhoto for straightening, cropping, and simple repairs, and PSE for bigger operations.
Now, "Double click photo:" has vanished. If I select "edit photo in: PSE," PSE opens when I double click, and the iPhoto tools aren't available. If I select "edit in iPhoto," I have to open PSE separately and drag my iPhoto to the PSE edit pane.
Speaking of which: I am having a another problem opening my iPhotos in PSE9.
When I select a photo and click "open in external editor", PSE9 opens, but the photo does not appear in the PSE9 edit pane! If I try to navigate to it, if in the PSE9 menu bar, I select File --> Open --> Nikon library, I get a dialog box than says "could not complete request because of a program error." I spent an hour on the phone with Adobe help, and the best she could come up with was to drag my photos one at a time from iPhoto to the PSE9 icon. That worked for awhile, then it stopped accepting more than one photo at a time. So no way to move objects between two photos, or use photomerge or group shot or any of those multi-photo features.
What's going on here? Is this an iPhoto problem, or a PSE9 problem? And what to do? Thank you.

Try removing PSE as the editor, maybe select Preview, and then go back to PSE. See if that will jumpstart it.
I may be preaching to the choir here but here are some tips on using PSE with iPhoto:
Using Photoshop (or Photoshop Elements) as Your Editor of Choice in iPhoto.
1 - select Photoshop as your editor of choice in iPhoto's General Preference Section's under the "Edit photo:" menu.

2 - double click on the thumbnail in iPhoto to open it in Photoshop. When you're finished editing click on the Save button. If you immediately get the JPEG Options window make your selection (Baseline standard seems to be the most compatible jpeg format) and click on the OK button. Your done.
3 - however, if you get the navigation window that indicates that PS wants to save it as a PS formatted file. You'll need to either select JPEG from the menu and save (top image) or click on the desktop in the Navigation window (bottom image) and save it to the desktop for importing as a new photo.
This method will let iPhoto know that the photo has been editied and will update the thumbnail file to reflect the edit..
NOTE: With Photoshop Elements 9 the Saving File preferences should be configured as shown:

I also suggest the Maximize PSD File Compatabilty be set to Always.

NOTE: If you want to use both iPhoto's editing mode and PS without having to go back and forth to the Preference pane, once you've selected PS as your editor of choice, reset the Preferences back to "Open in main window". That will let you either edit in iPhoto (double click on the thumbnail) or in PS (Control-click on the thumbnail and seledt "Edit in external editor" in the Contextual menu). This way you get the best of both worlds.

In a JD3 applet, the ComboBoxControl** will update a row (such as empno = 100) in the EMP table that already has a JOB value (e.g., 'Clerk'). However, the ComboBoxControl will NOT update a row (such as empno = 125) in the EMP table that DOES NOT already have a JOB value.
When the same scenario is tried in JD2, the ComboBoxControl will update the JOB value whether or not the selected row already has a JOB value.
IS THE JD2 FUNCTIONALITY DESCRIBED ABOVE AVAILABLE IN JD3? IF SO, HOW?

Since the later updates of in the 3.x series, I've had increasing losses of functioning of bookmarks & history, with 4.x it's gone, with latest update, Firefox slowed to non-funcitoning on my Mac Mini under OS X - What can I do to make it work again?

I can send and receive calls.
I get "messaging stopped" when doing a lot of texts.
Texts come up "ghosted" meaning they have the text on the bottom and a transparent one overlaid on top. they then become one. But I get the ghosting most of the time when I go into a message from a contact to send a text.
When I go to call logs or text logs, the numbers come up first, and then then the names pop up randomly, meaning not in order down the page, until they are all shown. lots of lag time.
It runs slow.
I have 5 apps on here. I should be able to have a lot of apps on here, and play music, and have files, and...and....and.
I can get online but doing a Google search, when the page with the choices comes up, it is blurred and I have to tap on the screen for it to become clear and readable.
When online and scrolling, it hitches sometimes/lags/gets stuck then unstuck
I get VZWAVS has stopped. (not sure if those are the right letters)
The status bar that is supposed to be gray with the new update, goes back and forth between green--the old os--to gray. And I have found no continuity with when I get green or when I get gray.
I get a black screen on occasion.
sometimes the proximity sensor doesn't work.
sometimes when I have my bluetooth on and have "hands free mode" on, I get the a text message read through the headset and also through the handset.

Messaging Records Management: loss of functionality between Managed Folders and Retention Policy

In Exchange 2007 and 2010 you can use Managed Folders with Managed Content Settings to act on messages based on when they were moved into the folder. E.g.,

will delete items 30 days after they're moved into the Junk E-Mail folder designated by the Folder Name "Managed Junk".

find the message, which was misclassified, and moves it to another folder. Since there's no way to set a TriggerForRetention based on WhenMoved, the message continues to age from 01/01/15. 90 days later, while the user is reviewing their mail, the user accidentally
clicks the Junk button on the message. Because the message is more than 30 days old, it's deleted immediately.
1) Am I correct? Or is there a way to use Retention Policies so that messages are acted on based on how long they've resided in their current folder?
2) What do I have to do to get Microsoft to add the ability to change the TriggerForRetention on a Retention Policy Tag in Exchange 2013?

By default there is no property on a message to identify a message is moved from one folder to another.Managed folder used to stamp a new property Moveddate on the message when the ContentSetting on the target folder was set to WhenMoved.
WhenMoved functionality is not available with Retention Policy . You can raise your concern to make this functionality available by opening a ticket with support.

The loss of functionality of Compare Documents in Acrobat.

The Compare Documents function in Acrobat 9 is now useless to my department. I am currently a Graphic Designer/ Tech Writer who writes operator manuals and had always used Compare Documents function to find the differences in the documents (mostly textual differences). Then we updated and lost this functionality altogether. Now, the only comparison option allowed is "Scanned Documents," which treats the documents as pictures and only looks for the differences of the over-all page. I would like the old textual comparison function restored. I would have mentioned something sooner, but I was hoping this was just an accident and would be fixed in a future patch

This would be better handled in the Acrobat forum. The compare document works more effectively now that you are given three choice:
You choose if the documents are (a) Reports, spreadsheets, magazine layouts, (b) Presentation decks, drawings, or illustrations, or scanned documents. You are not limited to scanned documents. If that is all you are seeing please repost in the Acrobat Windows or Acrobat Mac forum, report your version of Acrobat, your OS, and perhaps a screen shot of what you are seeing. Note, I get three options as above and I am not restricted to Scanned documents.

Loss of functionality after new ios5 added - is there a fix?

Before I uploaded iOS 5 I could watch my fantasy football live stream and use Google maps to navigate -now both of them are blank and I feel cheated. is there a fix for this or have I just "upgraded"to a less functional machine?

You could try closing all apps completely and then do a reset and see if that helps. To close all apps : from the home screen (i.e.not with any app 'open' on-screen) double-click the home button to bring up the taskbar, then press and hold any of the apps on the taskbar for a couple of seconds or so until they start shaking, then press the '-' in the top left of each app to close them, and touch any part of the screen above the taskbar so as to stop the shaking and close the taskbar.
To reset : press and hold both the sleep and home buttons for about 10 to 15 seconds (ignore the red slider), after which the Apple logo should appear - you won't lose any content, it's the iPad equivalent of a reboot.
I've also seen a couple of posts recommending turning off iCloud (which I haven't tried yet).

Loss of functionality with 3GS

I just got my 3GS and I'm a little disappointed with some of the lost functionality that I had with my 3G. For example, with the 3.0 upgrade on my 3G I could create meeting invites and choose which calendar I wanted to post to (Microsoft Exchange or internally to phone). With the 3GS I have lost this capability. What gives? Anyone else having this issue?

I have that problem as well. I live in an area which is right on the edge of AT&T service. I also drive through 2 dead zones on my way to work. My 3GS had OK cell service from my house, I usually get a few dropped calls and only when it rains. Usually, no problem. I upgraded to iOS4 and started to get dropped calls or no service maybe 50% of the time. I had people from work try to call me and it went straight to voicemail. I was sitting at home waiting for the call. I got the iphone4 and I still have same problem, not able to use the phone from my house about 50% of the time. There is definitely an update needed for iOS4.

IO7 loss of functionality!!!!

Apple have removed the functionality to play music videos in full screen when using the Apple IO7 music player.
Hundred of dollars worth of music videos purchased through Apple iTunes that cannot be played on an Apple Devide in full screen....insane!!!
Does anyone know of any 3rd party apps that allow you to watch music videos in full screen with the ability to queue up the songs?

Loss of functionality in new version

Beware of the new version of Blackberry Desktop if you are using Desktop Redirectory. It is missing in the new version. I have to uninstall and downgrade to the old version to get it back.
If you have an exchange server but no BES server, you must rely on desktop redirector to get mail on your device.
Is this a new trend for software manafactures? Create new versions and lose function the old versions had? I thought Microsoft was the only one that did that!

Until then you will have to resort to sorting by a particular label such as artist and manually scanning, third party utilities such as Dougscripts Dupin (Mac) or https://discussions.apple.com/message/20570956 (Windows) to deal with duplicates, or revert back to iTunes 10.7.

Yosemite on Macbook Pro 13'' early 2011: crashes and loss of functionality

After the OSX update my Macbook pro 13'' early 2011 has developed lots of problems: apps crash, battery doesn't last like before (5 hours in standby instead 10), Safari opens pages in 2 minutes and when I try to turn off the mac, it keep on working. I will try with a clean installation, but do you think this is normal? Thank u for the support.

The battery is non-removable, so if you want Apple you have to go to the Genius Bar.
As far as genuine Apple memory, I think it's the same thing. You may get it in the store, I don't think they sell it online. You can try calling the 800 number. You seem to want the Apple RAM only, but I have to tell you that most of us here recommend Other World Computing or Crucial.

.swf And Mac OSX 10.5 Loss Of Function

Since installing Leopard I have been unable to view
any .swf file on the web if it has more than one segment. So far I
have found this to be a problem on NFL.com, Packers.com and a
number of other web sites. This is true for both my G5 and my
MacBook.
Here is an example of exactly what I do using Safari with a
video clip from Packers.com and what happens.
1. Start Safari and get normal start-up screen (Google for
me)
2. Go to

3. Select a video clip and it starts to download and play as
expected
4. Once the “mini-commercial “ finishes the
“screen” box goes black with the “cogwheel”
spinning in it
5. I have waited 20 minutes and nothing else happens
What should happen is that the “real” video clip
I want to view starts to download and play immediately. The results
are the same in both Safari and Firefox.
Here are some specifics on components in use.
* Firefox v2.0.0.12
* Safari v3.0.4 (5523.15)
* Flash Player v9.0.115 for Leopard
* QuickTime Player (NOT PRO) v7.4.1 (14)

In general it's an Epson issue in not supporting Leopard. Be sure you have the very latest Epson software and sometimes it's necessary to uninstall and reinstall it.

Bizarre loss of functionality in my PDF doc's

Ok I know I'm not crazy, I even have a doctors note! 3.5 yrs ago we setup our website for business and posted two editable PDF forms. We originally created the forms in Publisher and the use Acrobat Pro and Distill them to PDF, create the editable fields and post it. One of my customers told me yesterday that my forms were not editable! I talked to my business partner about it and it hit us, I have asked him 3 times now to redue the forms and post them again, I really didnt pay much attention to why they stopped working, figured they got overwrote or something.
This morning I realized that I have had to do this like once a year...BIZARRE! I know they are not getting overwritten with anything, that area of our site is static and never changes. I also keep the originals backed up on another system and I checked them and HAZAR... they don't work anymore either!
The only thing I can think of is there is an expiration on the encoding of the file? I know, I know, I'll send you my doctors note, and yes my medications are in check! I can't think of anything else it can be? Has anyone else ever had this happen or noticed it now that I mention it???
