Loss of internal sound devices.

After trying portable speakers (which used a usb and 3.5mm headphone jack) to play a show on my Macbook Air (Mid '13), I swapped for a HDMI TV setup to play the show. After successful entertainement and returning to my quarters, I noticed the Air cannot detect internal sound devices (both output and input). It seems that a headset + usb sound card adapter and the HDMI TV can output sound. However, the internal speakers nor do iphone headphones work with the 3.5mm jack. When I plug them in, I hear a static pop noise and then a soft drone of static.
Some remedies I have tried are:
SMC reset
PRAM reset (unable to hear chime even after 4-5 zaps)
repair permissions
plug and unplug working output sources
I've had the Macbook Air for about a month and spend the majority of my time using it for multitasking browsers, power points, and word documents. Frequently, I also spend time playing a native client of League of Legends.
Minimum requirements: https://support.leagueoflegends.com/entries/234272-Minimum-System-Requirements-P C-
I'm unsure how to approach the situation or if I overlooked something.

Does the Speaker still work? Are any alerts played at all? Calls on Loudspeaker?
Sounds like a problem with that... How long have you had it? If not long, try to get it replaced... if a bit longer, I'd recommend taking it to your nearest Nokia Service Centre (www.nokia.com/repair) and asking them to take a look at it.Message Edited by richcowell on 28-Jul-2006

  • The internal sound device has "disappeared."

my macbook air is just over one year old (naturally).  when i turned it on this morning, the sound icon was greyed.  there are no devices listed to access. is this a hardware or software issue?

I had exactly this happen on my new iMac for no apparent reason. Telephone help from Apple had me archive and install again and all was well.
I would suggest you try that first before you take your machine in, as they will ask what you have done for yourself, I'm sure.

  • Issues with External Sound Devices & others - 13" Late 2011

    Good day community,
Out of curiosity, I run Diablo 3 on OS X and its been unplayable since ROS expansion, massive fps drops and crashes, Blizzard claims Apple stopped improving hd3000 drivers on 10.8.3, is this true? Also when I run the game through windows via bootcamp it performs better and doesn't not crash, is this related to hd3000 driver support still being improved in windows?
Other issues I'm experiencing, facetime most of the time fails if I try to pickup a call from the macbook, sometimes it notifies me of the incoming call (iphone 5s) sometimes it doesn't. Bluetooth doesn't work, not even with apple devices, I can't pair any of them. External sound devices such as m-audio fast track pro, native instruments audio 8 dj, allen & heath xone 4d, they all have latency issues and sound clips and pops, even with the onboard sound I experience this if I open a couple graphic editing software while playing itunes. Checked sample rate in audio/midi setup, drivers, firmware, everything seems up to date, I'm not using a USB hub, I updated to Yosemite from Mavericks, which was a terrible upgrade from Mountain Lion and it completely lagged the computer, so when I upgraded to Yosemite I ran disk utility from boot and apparently repaired the hard drive successfully. Performance is better but none of the above issues were solved.
So I'm thinking about formatting from scratch but wanted to drop a line here and see if others have any of these issues and/or some tips.
    Thank you for your time.

  • Macbook has no internal sound

Hi I tried to plug a speaker wire in the headphone jack osfmy friend's macbook, and there is a blue button on the volume bar like there suppose to be, however when the speaker wire is unplugged, the blue button on the volume bar disappears,, hence no internal sound. Please help.... Thanks.

    Howdy eyeso,
It sounds like you are no longer getting audio from the built in speakers on your Mac after using an external set. I recommend the troubleshooting in the article named:
Troubleshooting issues with no audio from built-in speakers on Macs
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ts1574
If you are still having issues after you have confirmed the proper version of Mac OS X is installed, make sure the computer is set to play sound from the right source.
Remove any external audio devices and cables from the USB, FireWire, or 3.5 mm audio ports.
Open System Preferences from the Apple () menu, the Dock, or from the Applications folder on your hard drive.
Open the Sound pane and the Output tab, then select Internal Speakers as in this image:
If Internal Speakers is not an option proceed to step 4. For Mac Pro computers, proceed to step 5.
If Internal Speakers is present but not selected, select it and test again.
If the Output volume slider is low or the Mute box is selected, raise the volume slider or deselect the Mute box and test again.
If the issue continues through these steps and Internal Speakers remains the selected option proceed to step 5.
If the Internal Speakers option does not appear in the Output tab and your computer is not a Mac Pro, check that Digital Out is present as in the image below:
Confirm again that all external audio devices and cables have been removed.
Check to see if a red light is lit in the line-out port. If so, your Apple computer may need service.
If you do not see a red light, proceed to step 5.
If the issues persist, contact Apple support for further troubleshooting assistance.
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
    All the best,
    Sterling

  • External sound device stuttering

I have an imac (2011) i believe. I own an an external usb sound device, specifically a lexicon alpha. It has been working fine but recently it started to stutter when i try to playback. My internal sound is fine and I tried the lexicon alpha on a pc and it worked fine. Do I have a corrupt file or something?

usb sound devices are usb audio cards and audio cards require drivers
and if the device have a poorly written osx driver then that would happen
I would look into what audio chip lexicon use and check if I could use a driver
from another usb sound card using the same audio chip

  • Internal sound stopped working

My internal sound suddenly stopped working. I can still hear sound with headphones, but the internal speakers are not functioning. The trademark start-up sound (Beatles Day in the Life rip off) is the only sound that comes out of the MacBook. Within Systmem Preferences, Sound, the output tab reads "The Selected Device Has No Output Controls." And within Utilities, Audio MIDI Setup, Audio Devises, the Built In Input Devise is active, but the box reads that "Output Is Not Suportted." Also when I try to adjust the volume with my F10, F11 and F12 keys, the Speaker Icon is in grey, all the audio bars are in whilte and there is the small circle with line throuh it below, that would indicate mute or no sound. Looking for direction to resolve the problem. Thanks.

This also worked for me. Red light on, put in jack, wiggle, pull out jack, red light gone, volume controls and sound work again. Thanks.

  • Using two different sound devices for in and out

    Hi,
I want to do the following:
For speakers I have the Logitech Z-10 that have an internal usb sound device. Sadly it hasn't a connector for a mic.
Nevertheless I'd like to use a microphone for teamspeak or ventrilo.
My mainboard has an onboard sound chip that I used before I had the Logitechs.
So my question is, can I use the usb speakers and the onboard chip simultaniously - one for out and one for in?
I alread adjusted my modprobe.conf so that every device has its index number but I don't know how to proceed.
    Regards
    Barghest

You're right. In ventrilo I can chose different devices.
TS2 is not working att all. I can't neither hear nor use the mic. There's no option for selecting the device.
\edit: Ok, I installed TS via wine. Works like a charm. What a pitty that TS doesn't work under arch

  • Find the right sound device in /dev

    Hello guys,
I want to set the right sound device to record also sound from my internal microphone with xvidcap. For that I have to set the proper sound device /dev/XXX in the settings of xvidcap.
But how can I find out which of them is my internal microphone?
    Regards

Looking at this old thread from 2011 I know others will look for an answer (I was doing just that a week ago). Yes xvidcap is old but it does work and does record sound as well. Here is what helped me to get it to record sound:
    For the common no-sound problem:
    1. Install pavucontrol and alacarte if not already
    2. Open the program with padsp xvidcap
    3. Click on the recording button (red circle)
    4. Run pavucontrol, go to the Recording tab and there choose Monitor of Analog Stereo Internal Audio
    Done!!
To record with sound, the program has always to be run with padsp xvidcap (for example from ALT+F2). To run it always like that from the menu: run alacarte, go to Sound and video, then to XVidCap Screen Capture, Properties and where it says Command put padsp xvidcap.
The stated is to record the system sound, that is, the one coming out of the speakers, that can be of a song or movie of our hard drive or pendrive played by Totem, of a Flash music video of a website played by Firefox, ...
Nevertheless, sometimes it can be necessary to record the microphone sound, for example if we want to make a video tutorial to explain how a program works. In this case we put xvidcap in recording state, run pavucontrol and in the Recording tab we put Analog Stereo Internal Audio (without "Monitor of" ahead).
If we only want to record sound (without video) we can run from ALT+F2 gnome-sound-recorder. The first time probably it will be configured to record from the microphone. To record the system sound we run with ALT+F2 gnome-volume-control, go to the Hardware tab and in Profile we put Analog Stereo Output (it's also possible to do this running pavucontrol and using the Configuration tab).
But when we finish we have to put again Analog Stereo Duplex in the Profile of Hardware of gnome-volume-control (or of Configuration of pavucontrol), so we can still choose the origin of the sound when recording with xvidcap.
Another option, not to have to change once and again between Analog Stereo Duplex and Analog Stereo Output neither limit the sound source for xvidcap, is to leave Analog Stereo Duplex and use also gnome-sound-recorder with padsp ahead, that is, run padsp gnome-sound-recorder. Like the stated for padsp xvidcap, to change where we want to record the sound from, we put the program recording, open pavucontrol and in the Recording tab we put the desired option. We also can change the menu entry if we want with alacarte, going to Sound & video, then to Sound Recorder and then to Properties.
NB: sometimes, to change from Analog Stereo Duplex to Analog Stereo Output it may be necessary to change first to Off, close, open again and then change finally to Analog Stereo Output. The same for the opposite change. If not, the computer may "not notice" that we have applied the change.

  • List sound devices in AS3

Is it possible to list Sound output devices on a system.  I'd like to be able to list Sound output devices and play a sound to more than one sound device at the same time.  I.e. Internal speaker and a USB headset.
    I know you can capture sound from multiple input devices using Microphone.names and Microphone.getMicrophone(index);
Can I play the sound to multiple sound devices?

It's really context. If you're on a website, you can't access a webcam or microphone at all unless the user allows you to in their preferences, and they are prompted when you do so.
In an AIR application I would like these advanced techniques but as you pointed out yourself with the link, the way the OS handles device addressing under the hood can likely change, so they don't advise even a 'workaround' for choosing where to send audio.
On the example you listed above, while you're free to implement things like that, is it really a good idea to have a user have headphones on while you still intend them to hear (headphone muffled) sounds coming out of the speakers? I'm not sure why you'd like a setup such as that other than clearly separating communication from the application. I never came across a need such as this however. If I can pay attention to a game and 30 people on a Ventrilo server at the same time perfectly well, I don't think users should expect to listen to both the speakers and the headset. That's just my $0.02.
As it is now, you're free to tinker with Adobe Native Extensions to see what added behavior it can extend AIR to regarding a desktop application.

  • Internal sound card suddenly not recognized (laptop and desktop)

    Both systems run Arch.
A week or so ago, my laptop decided to forget that it had an internal sound card... the bluetooth headset and usb sound card still seem to work just fine... but the built in card has disappeared from the system completely.  This morning, I was listening to shoutcast on my desktop when I left the room... I come back to complete silence and vlc (which had been playin shoutcast) was no longer running.  So, I started to play some local music via Rhythmbox... no sound... I open my mixer, the internal sound card is gone!  The only instance I can seem to find it is if I run Alsamixer via the commandline (have not tested this on the laptop yet, was planning to troubleshoot that before the end of the week).  What information do you guys need to help me figure out why my soundcards have suddently gained amnesia?  again, ALL external cards on both systems work just fine (listening to shoutcast on a USB sound card at this very moment on the desktop)...

The card is still not readable directly on the computer? Can you write to the card and read from it with the computer? What about with another device?
You need to determine if the problem is the BlackBerry or the card. If you can read the card or write to it with another device, that suggests the card. You should also try a known good card in the BlackBerry.
If the card is the problem, you could try repairing and recovering files with the computer first, and then format the card and test. If the problem continues or returns, get a new card.

  • HP 2000-2c10DX Notebook No Sound Devices

I was using my notebook earlier and I had sound.  I tried using my computer and all of a sudden I have no sound.
I go into the control panel and then "Sounds" and it as that there are "No audio devices installed".
I have been running Windows 8.1 for some time, but now all of a sudden, I get no sound.

    Hello,
Step 1: I tried running the Windows Fixit tool, but I got the error "We're sorry, but your operating system is not supported by Microsoft Fix it at this time."
Steps 2 - 4:  Won’t work because I am getting the error that there are no sound devices.
Step 5 (and maybe this is where the problem is) I have the following in the Device Manager:
    Sound, video and game controllers
    CyberLink WebCam Virtual Driver
Device Type: Sound, video and game controllers
    Manufacture: CyberLink
    Location: Unknown
    High Definition Audio Device
Device Type: Sound, video and game controllers
    Manufacture: Microsoft
Location: Location3 (Internal High Definition Audio Bus)
Step 6: I ran the driver recovery and rebooted and I still have the above devices installed
Step 7: I tried to update the “High Definition Audio Device” drivers and it said that it was the latest version.
Step 8: I am not certain where the BIOS update would be for Windows 8.1
Step 9: I tried running several system restores, but I keep on receiving an error that the restore failed.
    Thank you

  • Problems with aggregate sound device

    Hi,
when making an aggregate sound device in the Audio Setup, I only get one source to pass it's sound through the device. I've tried different sources: USB-microphone, usb-soundcard, internal microphone, soundflower and so on. They all work fine, but only one at a time. If I add multiple devices only the first one added will work.
The odd thing is that the level indicator, e.g. in Quicktime, shows sound from both sources, while only the first one added will be recorded.
And yes, I've set the sampling rates of all devices to the same value (44100,0 Hz).
    Please help!

And to add to the saga one last time, I can't reproduce that success reported in the last message.
Does anyone know where on the filesystem these settings are actually stored? /Library/Preferences/com.apple.audio.DeviceSettings.plist seems like a likely candidate, but it doesn't say anything about my aggregate device that Audio MIDI Setup clearly shows... And /Library/Preferences/com.apple.audio.AudioMIDISetup.plist is just a very short file containing a serialized ObjC object or three...
    Back to square 1.5,

  • Losing Sound Device Settings

Every couple of weeks or so, when turning on my PowerBook, or restarting, my sound device settings are lost, and I have to restart using the reset pram rule.
I'm current on all of my updates, running 10.5.5, and my PBK is a 2005, pre-intel. Anyone have an idea why i'm losing my sound device settngs? Internal boot battery getting low perhaps?
Also, I have an odd sound issue. Every once in awhile, I'll hear a what sounds like a static pop through my external speakers. Haven't heard it as far as I can remember through the internal speakers, only when the externals are plugged in. My external speakers are Altec Lansings with a sub.
I just heard the "pop" as I'm writing this, and haven't rebooted yet, so don't have my device settings activated yet. I guess my next stop is the Altec forums!
    Thanks for any help.

My MBP always has a pop before a sound, if it has been idle for a while. This has been reported before. It seems that when the digital sound system "wakes up" it makes a pop sound. That is normal but not really acceptable.
However, the pop you hear could be something else, and could be, in fact, the sound turning off.
Run the Audio/Midi setup app and look at what the input and output options are when the sound is lost.
You can also run the Sound Preference and see similar things.
Does your notebook have a second battery for storing PRAM/NV-RAM data? I know some older units did. If so, it may be dying and you are losing your settings.

    Hello
Do you use the preinstalled Windows version from Toshiba or did you install your own version?
As Akuma wrote check the device manager if you can see any yellow exclamation marks or unknown devices.
Easiest way to get rid of this is running recovery installation from Toshiba recovery disk. The original factory settings will be restored with all drivers and tools. After this everything should work properly again.

Go to device manager, then expand "System Devices", and locate "MS UAA bus" Right click over it, then click "Disable".
    Reboot and enter in "Safe Mode", {hit "F8" just after bios post screen}
Once done go to device manager then expand "System Devices", and locate "MS UAA bus"  Right click over it, then click "Un-install".
Reboot PC, then run Realtek driver installation again.
    If problem persist use:
