Loss of Internet Connectivity when Using Airport

I have my Airport Express talking to my wireless Dlink DI514 router for iTunes. This worked great for several months, but all of a sudden I am having problems connecting to the internet.
I spoke to comcast, and they see no problems in my area - they said it could be a router issue. Later I noticed that I only have problems connecting to the internet when I am using my Airport express to play music on my stereo system (which is most of the time).
Has anyone had this kind of problem before? Could it be that my router has gotten sick and can't handle iTunes and connecting to the internet simultaneously? I'd have posted this question on the Dlink site, but I don't see any message boards there. Any ideas?

Ensure that your AirPort Express (AX) is configured as a wireless client of the D-Link. The instructions are in KB 302153, AirPort Express: How to join an existing wireless network in client mode.

  • Trouble with internet connection when using extreme to join wireless network

I have an airport extreme that I want to use as an ethernet hub.  I have successfully connected it to my wireless modem, and I have a solid green light; however, when I connected the ethernet to my tv/computer/anything there is no internet connection.  I tried powering down everything in order and rebooting as appropriate modem then router then computer, but still not internet connection.  Any suggestions.

The AirPort Extreme does not provide any routing functions when it is configured to "join a wireless network", so the Ethernet ports are not active in this type of setup. The only thing that really functions is the USB port, which could be used for a remote printer or hard drive.
If you have another Apple "n" wireless router acting as your main base station, you can configure the AirPort Extreme to "extend a wireless network". The Ethernet ports are enabled in this type of setup....and the Extreme will provide more wireless coverage in the area where it is located.

  • Slow internet speed when using AirPort

    Hi
I guess this may have been discussed before, but I could really do with some clear advice on the subject. I own a 2007 Mac Pro with an AirPort wi-fi card fitted by Apple as an option when I bought the machine. However, for some time now, I have experienced problems with my wi-fi connection when on the net.
Firstly, there's the signal. When I switch the computer on first and then access the internet, all four bars on the AirPort icon on my desktop are in black. However, after a while this starts to drop to three or two - sometimes even just one. The connection speed to the net decreases as the bars drop. When all four bars are filled in black, my connection speed is still not very good. My Mac Pro is not really far from my AirPort Extreme - in fact I have tried my old Windows XP based laptop in the same room and it appears to be fine provide better access speeds (even though it's an older machine)!
Secondly, my Mac Pro doesn't seem to like my 8 digit WPA-PSK security key on my modem (accessed through the AirPort Extreme base station). When I disconnect and try to re-connect to my network (as sometimes this helps my connection speed when it's low) the Mac asks me to punch in my key. I do this and it never seems to recognise it. Tried changing the password key through my modem's settings via an ethernet cable, yet still - when asked to type in the key when trying to access wirelessly - it is not recognised.
Can anyone offer any advice?? I have a Netgear modem/router with an AirPort Extreme 802.11n base station. I purchased my Mac Pro June 2007 from Apple.
    Thanks

I know cable connection is faster than bluetooth. But BT connection shouldn't be that slow.

  • Avoid internet connections when using ovi maps.

I own a E60 and have the latest version of Ovi Maps for Belgium on my cell phone.
In my internet settings I mentioned: connection -> Offline. As such I expected not to connect to internet at all and only usethe local maps.
But my last bill mentioned quite a few internet-connections. Is this in order to search (faster) for my own position ? If yes, is there a way to avoid these connections ? If not, any idea what another reason could be (although I don't use mail-functions, ... on my cell phone) ?

    Hi Chessness,
If you have set your connection to Offline mode, your maps will not connect any more. So your case should be caused because of some other application or feature of the mobile.
Try to check if you have any application (like social networking apps or weather app, etc..) which use internet to function. Also check if you have any settings enabled in your phone to use internet (like check for automatic software update or somehting like that). You can take the timing of the usages from your bill, that might help you to understand your phone usage more.

  • My iPod Touch won't connect when using Airport Express! HELP.

If I connect from work (wirless location) my iPod touch has internet.  If I try connecting from home with Airport Express--- it will not connect to the internet.

Which generation iPod Touch do you have? How do you have the AirPort Express Base Station's (AX) wireless network configured? That is, which Radio Mode and Wireless Security type is it using?

  • Internet slow when using airport extreme

First off I don't understand the intricacies of networking at all.
THat said when I connect my macbook pro to the modem directly I get around 15meg download using a speedtest website.
Using the wireless I'm lucky to get 2meg. It's an airport extreme dome so it's more than capable of handling the speed.(right?) I assume the built in wireless card in the MBPro is equally capable.
So, is there anything I can do to improve things? I live in an apartment where there are many wirelses networks if that's relevant.

Well I seemed to have improved this dramatically by changing the security to WPA2. But that has created a problem with my powerbook as it cannot see the network.
I'm guessing that's a problem with the powerbook's airport card?? Can I update this?

  • Wrt54gs loses internet connection when using P2P Ares

I have a wrt54gs v5 and I've installed the latest firmware and reset back to factory then reconfigured.  Whenever Ares is started all other computers (wired or wireless) lose their inet connection.  Within 2-5 minutes of stopping Ares everything starts working again. I've checked Ares and it's set to am max of 10 connections.
I've hooked up my old befsx41 and it works fine but I need the wireless.  Both of these are talking to a befcmu10 cable modem.  I've never had problems with linksys before but from what I'm seeing on the forums the wrt54xxx doesn't seem to be of the same quality as the oldser stuff. Anyone know of any specific versions that fix this?
(Mod Note: Edited for guideline compliance. Thanks!)

Since your BEF works with P2P, why don't you simply convert your WRT into a WAP (wireless access point).  This way you will use the wireless of the WRT, while using the BEF to handle all the routing chores.
To do this, setup the BEF as your primary router.
Then wire one computer to port 1 (not the Internet port) on the WRT.  (Note:  Disconnect everything else from the WRT at this time.)
Then in the WRT do the following:
    Turn off the DHCP server.
Set the "Local IP address" to 192.168.1.2  (assuming no other device on your network is using this fixed LAN IP address, and assuming the BEF is set to use the 192.168.1.x  address space.)
Save your settings.  Power down the WRT.
Next, connect any numbered port on the WRT to any numbered port on the BEF.  Do not connect anything to the Internet port on the WRT.
The BEF will control your router settings (DHCP server, port forwarding, etc.)
The WRT will control your wireless settings.
Please let me know whether this setup allows your P2P to work properly.

  • NetworkManager: no internet connection when using dhclient

By default, I get connected to my wireless network, but I don't have access to the internet. I can solve this in 2 ways :
    1- I can add the line dhcp=internal in NetworkManager.conf.
2- I can type the command sudo dhclient wlan0. (I did add a kernel setting to have wlan0 as my wireless interface name.).
I am wondering why the default invocation of dhclient by NetworkManager is not working. Why do I have to call it again to make it work?
(Also, having dhcp=dhcpcd instead does not even connect to the network.)

I have both dhclient and dhcpcd installed but my dhcpcd.service is disabled and it works for me. I don't know why the service is disabled nor I remember if I did it manually. Also try to disable the kernel line naming your wireless interface, it might be related (trial and error should reveal that). Perhaps check NM configuration if you have dhcp enabled and IP stack properly configured for the correct interface.

  • IChat causes loss of internet connection

I keep losing my internet connection when using iChat (video).
About a month ago I started having intermittent problems with my Comcast cable modem connection. I would lose the connection to the internet, requiring power-cycling the modem to regain it. At its worst, it happened 5x a day, but usually it was once a day. Then I'd go for a long stretch of days with no problems.
More recently my iChat experience degraded. In an hour's chat, I would lose the internet connection 3-4 times.
A few days ago I finally had time to drive the modem to a Comcast office to get it replaced. That same weekend I upgraded my MacBook to Snow Leopard. The internet connection has been solid ever since -- except during the iChat I had yesterday.
I lost the connection four times, but now the modem finds it again without requiring power cycling.
I only use iChat with one other person (my sister, also on Comcast, across the country), so I can't do extensive testing. My sister uses iChat weekly with my parents (video iChat, also using Comcast, in the same town as I am, using a 2009 iMac) and they have no problems.
At the end of the most recent chat, I downgraded the speed to 200kbps. The sound was worse (very muddy) and the picture wasn't as good. I didn't lose the connection, but it generally takes about 10 minutes to fail, and we didn't chat that long at the reduced connection speed. So I can't really say if that helped.
I suspect this is a Comcast problem, but I'm not sure. Their bandwidth caps and hardware "upgrades" have caused all sorts of headaches for me in the past, and there seems to be no way to get accurate information out of them. I have no idea if they're capping my speed, degrading my service, or what.
I'm posting here in the hopes that there is some unknown setting or other trick that I can use in iChat to solve this problem. It's unusable as-is, and very frustrating because it used to be better (and because my parents have no problems).

Whoops, I forgot to add that we're both using MobileMe and Airport Extremes. My sister is wireless and I've tried it both ways (no difference).
The iChat error message that appears when the internet connection is lost and the chat fails is something about "no data received in 10 seconds". The following is the only iChat-specific console log data I could find:

  • Why does everyone at my work loose their internet connection when I update Adobe Cloud Products?

Why does everyone at my work loose their internet connection when I update Adobe Cloud Products? We are on a 20mb broadband connection and there is around 20 people using computers at my work but when I start my Adobe Cloud Product update or when I try and download my Adobe Cloud Product everyone at my work looses their internet connection and so do I. But the update keeps downloading and installing.

I am sorry FooWingLi but the difficulties you are describing sounds more like a local network configuration issue.  I would recommend working with your I.T. department to investigate this matter.

I get a message "The Itunes server could not be contacted, check your internet connection" when trying to check for Ipod Nano software updates. I have a 1st generation Nano and haven't updated the software for a while. My internet connection is working. Was thre a change in the internet address for NANO software updates? Do I have to reconfigure something in Itunes to point to the correct address?

What version of iTunes are you using?  The latest is 10.6.3. In iTunes, choose Help -> About iTunes to check the version number. If it's lower than 10.6.3, download the latest version from here.

  • Do I need continuous internet connection to use cc

I frequently do not have an internet connection. Can I still use Photoshop and Lightroom when disconnected?

Do I need to be online to access my desktop apps?
No, the desktop applications in Creative Cloud, such as Photoshop and Illustrator, are installed directly on your computer, so you don’t need an ongoing Internet connection to use them.
An Internet connection is required the first time you install and license your apps, but you can use the apps in offline mode with a valid software license. The desktop apps will attempt to validate your software licenses every 30 days.
Annual members can use the apps for up to 99 days in offline mode. Month-to-month members can use the software for up to 30 days in offline mode.

  • How do i get an internet connection when i am out of range of my pc

hi...i have a 4th generation ipod touch...no problem with internet connection when i am close to my pc...but when i go out and am away from my pc i dont get a connection....... why is this and how do i get a permanent connection.................thanks

Because you iPod requires a wi-fi connection.  It is not 3G or 4G like the iPhone.  As lllaass said, you can get a portable wi-fi source that uses 3G or 4G technology, but there is a monthly subscription fee.
