Loss of most recent photos

We had a power outage whilst I was using and uploading photos into iphoto. When I re opened iphoto I had lost all my photos but the last ones uploaded (5,500 ish photos). With Finder and time machine I have managed to get back all my photos up to Dec 2007 but cannot find the others. Where should I look they do not appear to be on the separate back up disc nor can I find them on time machine. A simple answer for a simple soul would be appreciated. Many thanks

Sounds like your database has been damaged.
Try these in order - from best option on down...
1. Do you have an up-to-date back up? If so, try copy the library6.iphoto file from the back up to the iPhoto Library (Right Click -> Show Package Contents) allowing it to overwrite the damaged file.
2. Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.
3. If neither of these work then you'll need to create and populate a new library.
To create and populate a new *iPhoto 08* library:
Note this will give you a working library with the same Events and pictures as before, however, you will lose your albums, keywords, modified versions, books, calendars etc.
In the iPhoto Preferences -> Events Uncheck the box at 'Imported Items from the Finder'
Move the iPhoto Library to the desktop
Launch iPhoto. It will ask if you wish to create a new Library. Say Yes.
Go into the iPhoto Library (Right Click -> Show Package Contents) on your desktop and find the Originals folder. From the Originals folder drag the individual Event Folders to the iPhoto Window and it will recreate them in the new library.
When you're sure all is well you can delete the iPhoto Library on your desktop.
In the future, in addition to your usual back up routine, you might like to make a copy of the library6.iPhoto file whenever you have made changes to the library as protection against database corruption.

  • The touchscreen of my iphone is not working, and I want to backup my most recent photos onto my mac, but I have a passcode that I have changed since my most recent backup around a month ago. What could I do to get my photos back?

    As the title says,
My iphone touchscreen stopped working around two days ago, so I cannot input my passcode. I am trying to backup my most recent photos as I have been on a trip abroad to phuket the past week, and got back home but did not have time to move my photos from that trip onto my mac before the touchscreen stopped working. I have a problem because I backed up my iphone last around a month ago, but have changed my passcode since so my iphone is not allowing me to back up onto my mac through itunes. I wish I at least hadn't changed the passcode, or had my photos on icloud, but I have so many photos that the icloud storage would cost so much for me to keep them updated.. I am so frustrated right now as it's not that I have forgot my passcode, or that I don't know it at all, but I know it. I wish there was a software that I could use on my mac to enter the passcode or something. Is there a way I could do something about it?!

So you are not using Photo Stream? If you are, then you can turn on Photo Stream on iCloud on your Mac, and then go to iPhoto or Aperture and the Photo Stream will show under "Web" in the sidebar.
You can also set up your iPhoto or Aperture preferences to automatically import your Photo Stream, so any photos you take with your iPhone camera will upload and import automatically and will show under events, broken into monthly groupings.
Photo Stream does not use any of your iCloud storage.
Here are the Preference Screens I'm referring to:
    iPhoto:
    Aperture:
One other thing concerning your Touch Screen. Have you tried resetting your device (nothing will be lost) to see if that will get your Touch Screen working again: Hold down the Home and Power buttons at the same time and continue to hold them down until the Apple appears (up to 30 seconds). Once the Home screen redisplays see if your Touch Screen is working.
    Best of luck,

  • Iphoto and facebook - most recent photos not showing up in file upload!!

on iphoto, all the photos are fine and the most recent photos i import are in the recent import folder like they should be. i'm trying to upload a new profile picture to facebook but when i go to file upload and then click on iphoto to find the picture, it's not there, along with the rest of the recently imported photos. the most "recent photos" when i go to file upload are photos i imported from september 24, 2009 and i have imported a bunch of pictures after that date that aren't showing up when i go to file upload. i already tried rebuilding my library and all that but it didn't do anything. help?

I just started having this same problem. New events are not appearing in the media browser section of the file upload window. The last event to show up is from October 12th. I tried several different websites and browsers.
They are fine in iPhoto and the files show up in the "All Images" section of the Finder.

  • I have thousands of photos.  When I select a photo and edit it I want to return to the Organizer where I left off.  I don't want to go to the most recent photo and have to find my way back to where I was.  Is there a way to make this happen?

When I am in the Organizer and edit a photo I want to return to the Organizer where I left off.  I don't see that as an option--it always returns me to the most recent photo.  Is there a fix?  Thank you.

    Art,
I am trying to follow your very precise steps, and in my case (PSE11 also, Win7), the focus stays on the edited picture after I return from the editor to the Organizer. I am pretty sure that in the previous post describing your situation, I was able to reproduce the problem, but I don't remember on which version. I just tried in 'Folders' view mode to edit in a selected folder, then I clicked 'All media' so that no folder was selected. Same result in both cases.
Even if you prefer to work in folders view, you could take advantage of the ability to use 'albums'. It's a misleading word to describe a selection, a 'collection' of pictures, which you can sort as you want. It's a kind of  'playlist' like with music items. In the organizer, you can select a folder and create an album (even a temporary one) just by choosing 'create instant album'. Suppose you have made an album from a folder or a selection of highlighted pictures to edit. You can order them in date order, import batch or 'custom' order'. Since PSE12 you can also sort them in filename order. You should never lose the 'focus' on your last edited picture when coming back from the editor to the organizer. If the purpose of that album is only to help in organizing an editing session, you simply delete the album (the playlist) if you don't want to keep the list afterward.
I hope someone will be able to confirm how that can happen...
    Edit;
I have just read Brian's post.
    That may be the difference...

I've just upgraded my iPhone from ios3 to ios6 and it has taken my phone back in time. My most recent photos and messages are dated from a year ago. My music is fine, just messages and photos are gone. HELP?

Restore the device using the most recent backup.
If you have not backed up the device recently, then there is nothing to restore.

I got a new iphone 6.  When I restore my phone from my icloud backup my most recent photos and messages not restored from icloud backup.  How do I get the most recent backup onto my new phone?

    Hello, Anita.
Thank you for visiting Apple Support Communities.
I understand that you are wanting to restore your new iPhone 6 from an iPhone 5 backup.  This sounds like the iOS version of your old iPhone 5 may be newer than what was installed on your iPhone 6.  Try going through the steps in the article below.
iOS: Unable to restore from backup of a newer device
I would also check to see the backup dates in iTunes and if the  backup is located on iCloud instead of iTunes.
Back up and restore your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch using iCloud or iTunes
    Cheers,
    Jason H.

  • I lost my phone. Is there anyway I can get my most recent photos, notes, etc. onto my iCloud?

I lost my phone. Is there anyway I can get my most recent photos, notes, etc. onto my iCloud before someone deletes my files?

If you had not already setup iCloud on the device before you lost it, then no - there is no way. If you had already setup iCloud, your data would automatically be in iCloud.

  • My most recent photos i downloaded in iphoto is not showing up in my events??

I just downloaded over 700 photos, using most recent software update in iphoto, i am unable to view it when i look at "events" folder.
    any recommendations?

    Probably
do they show in last import? Probably they do - then you have one of two problems
1 - incorrect event sort - correct under the view menu ==> sort events
    OR
2 - incorrect date/time setting on the camera - correct using the camera menu to set the correct date/time for future photos and the ones already imported correct by selecting them in the last import and using the adjust time/date command

  • Can I import just the most recent photos from iPhoto

I want to import into the organizer just the most recent iPhoto ppictures. The problem is every time I want to import from iPhoto the system wants to import thousands of photos which I do not need. All I want are the last half-dozen or so shots that I took that's all.

There is the option to use iPhoto rather than Organizer with the PSE Editor application set up for external editing in the iPhoto preferences.
See the link below for further information and if using this option make sure you choose the application in Support Files (see image) and not an alias:

  • Most recent photos and thumbnails appear corrupted

a little complex this one.  Recently had the hard drive replaced following seagate problem.  Restored from hard drive.  IPhoto11 9.2.3 All photos and albums appeared to be ther in the thumbmails.  when clicked on recent photos (NB old ones still OK) the picture came up from the thumbnail and then when clicked to edit it went out of focus.  Then the portrait thumbnails came up into fullscreen but when I clicked on the landscape thumbnails the triangle and exclamation mark appeared -NB same camera same time photos.  Following a previous discussion I downloaded IPhioto manager and rebuilt the library.  When I did the thumbnails are now just grey squares but only the most recent ones all old ones are still fine.  when I click on the grey thumnbail to open in full screen the triangle and exclamation  mark appears but the system still tries to do face recognition on the grey square.  All a little challenging to understand - any help welcome

What do you mean it "restored itself". It can't do that. User interaction is required to initiate that.
Did you not have a recent backup of it? If not, then the data is gone.

  • Iphoto not "seeing" most recent photos from my camera

When I connect my camera to iphoto, it does not see the most recent 27 pictures. They are visible on my camera, but when prompted to import, iphoto only sees the previously imported photos and asks if I want to import duplicates. WTHeck?

Launch Image Capture and see if it can recognize those photos and download them to a folder on the Desktop.
What camera do you have and does it have a removable memory card?  If it does connect it to your Mac via a card reader (your iMac may have one in its side) and copy the photos from the card to a folder on the Desktop.  Once you have the photos there and can confirm that they can be read (user Preview to view them) put the memory card back in the camera and reformat it with the camera.  Take some test shots and try importing into iPhoto again.

  • How can I automatically load the most recent photo gallery?

I would like to add a "Recent Photos" section to my home page. Is there any good way to do that?

What are "Recent Photos"? Which module are you using for that? If you're using a web app you can display the list of the latest web ap items on your homepage by embedding the module into it.

  • My phone restored and lost all my most recent photos and other information. How can I get it back !?

Yesterday my phone restored itself. Using a backup that was made a month ago I had no way to stop other than to unplug the phone. Which wipped the phone completely and then when I plugged it back in all it would do is use the old backup again. So I have lost all the photos, messages and everything else that I have made in the last month. Which as this is a business phone is not exactly helpful. Is there any way to get all these things back or are they gone forever?? Thanks for the help

  • Importing only most recent photos

I do not always want to erase photos from my camera after importing them onto the computer, but when I want to import the next batch, iPhoto wants to import the entire collection I have kept on the camera. Is there some way I can import only those photos that are not already on the computer?

    Welcome to the Apple Discussions.
Yes. If your camera mounts on the Desktop as an external device, then all you have to do is choose File > Import to Library from the menu bar. Then you'll be able to navigate to your camera, preview the files there, and choose only what you wish to import.
If your camera doesn't mount on the Desktop, like most Canon models, then you can use a card reader for importing. The reader mounts the card on the Desktop just like an external hard drive.
The other option is to use Image Capture (in your Applications folder) to upload the files from your camera. It has a Download Some option that will allow you to preview the files and select only the ones you want. Save them to a Desktop folder, not a location inside your iPhoto Library folder. Then import into iPhoto, and delete the original folder.
    Regards.

  • Why did my most recent photos disappear after hard restart?

I took photos with my iPhone yesterday in an area with little cell service, and then went back to my home screen without looking at them. A couple minutes later I held the power and home button down for 30 seconds, giving my phone a hard reboot. When I went back to look at the seven or eight photos moments later, none of them were there. However, in the preview screen on the bottom left, it showed one of them.
Any idea why this would happen? Anyone know a way to get them back, it would be really, really nice.
As you can see, the photo shows up in the preview, but is nowhere to be found anywhere else.

    mpolitz,
It was the most bizare thing I've experienced with my iPhone. About a month later, they just appeared back in my camera roll. Here's what I've come to a conclusion with:
    1. When I took the photos I barely had service, then did a hard restart before I had consistant 4G service. (AT&T)
    2. I plugged my phone in to my computer, hoping to find them, looked through my photo steam, hoping to find them, nothing.
    3. I rebooted my phone, the camera app, the photos app, each several times, nothing.
    4. One day, about a month later, I gave my phone a hard reboot. Suddenly, they were all there. I tried to figure out what about that hard rebooot could have had an effect, and I really have no clue. It wasn't at the same place as I took the photos, I was at work when I rebooted it, on WiFi.
Hope that helps. Really, I have no idea.
